  1. Yay!
    Welcome aboard, Crossclaw!
From my experiences, Justice is an excellent server with a really cool community.
Nothing against other servers, but hey, the Justice community has left an impression on me! (Even though I play on Virtue)

I love what you said here about the early game offering a lot of fun options and powers... and about the rest of the game being fun as you can simply just enjoy playing your character. This is what I find to be true, so you should enjoy the rest of the game (Plus, there is definitely more).

The powers are fun. So many different powersets are just as fun (To me, at least).

Knockback, and just the overall physics add an aspect of fun that I find makes me smile and, often times, laugh like I am playing this game for the first time throughout all my sessions.

Seeing enemies hanging on railings after knocking them over them, tumbling and crumpling down stairways, against walls, off of ledges... It just never gets old to me.

One other possibly helpful advice... The knockbacks in your Energy/Energy powers are not a bad thing once you gain a bit of understanding and strategy behind it on a team. Using them to keep enemies pinned against a wall, in a corner, send a runner flying back into the crowd... If you fly/hover, you can aim the knockback down and simply send them into the ground.
*Just be mindful and your teammates won't mind at all.

    * - Well, you may encounter the rare player that despises all tings knockback... but they are truly rare. Seriously. Wild knockbacks with reckless abandon from some past experience can taint it for some limited-minded people... But, on the whole, that is not a common mindset.
Most of us know just how fun it is and that it can also be very beneficial, never mind not-harmful.

    Anyways, enough rambling from me.

Glad you liked it enough to stick around!

Hope you continue to love it!
  2. And my gorilla cannot do a lot of emotes when he is carrying his shield!!
    They hate Gorillas too!!!

I'm not kidding... if the animators don't fix this yesterday, I am not going to play three weeks ago!!
  3. Due to the Trial limitations, I'd echo the idea of posting on the Server Forum to try and hook up with something to do. (We appreciate the limitations since they are in place to block out a lot of annoying RMT spamming and such, but it does hinder your ability to check out the game)

If you find Role-Playing or, at least, players that tend to stay in-character and/or come up with interesting character concepts, then Virtue may be more for you than Freedom.
Don't get me wrong... These things can all be found on any server (Including Freedom), but Virtue is the unofficial role-playing server and has a bit of a higher concentration of that atmosphere.
I only say this because of the Free Trial limitations making it best to play on a high population server.
If you are more into the fun of the things I mentioned, then Freedom could turn you off a bit.

Nothing against anyone or any style of play... Just thought I'd mention this, as a few steered you towards Freedom.

And, once you have an actual account without limitations... Any of the servers are wonderful to play on, no matter your playstyle and interests.

    Good luck! And welcome!

EDIT: Oh, and Golden Girl... Nice attempt!

I've come to the conclusion that holding the philosophy that the ends justify the means is in itself an inherently evil philosophy. Despite the fact that it is intended to do good, it very well may fail in that regard because more evil acts may be committed to achieve that good goal. All the good that was fought for might be lost completely with those evil acts.
    I hear you on that.
I've come to find myself thinking that this mindset also tends to influence others to continue in that way (To do "evil" in order to achieve the greater good). And, let's face it, not everyone will always be even close to correct in their assessment of that nor in their execution of it.

    I believe "evil" begets "evil".

Unfortunately, the toughest thing to do is stand against something that will help you.

Of course, no one and nothing is perfect. And thus the cycle continues, hehe.

I think Sonic The Hedgehog, himself, is evil, because I never played another sidescrolling game of that (The Super Mario Bros) style ever again after completing the original Sonic on the Genesis.

It was great fun, but that was the end of it for me. No more, hehe.

(Not important, but thought I'd mention it to lighten the mood in here)

He sacrificed millions to save billions, the needs of the majority outweigh the needs of the minority. And that's like the textbook definition of justice and fairness
How about when all of that "saved the world" nonsense is undone when the truth came out?

The sacrifice was made for nothing and the actions and their ramifications remain.

This would also be another example... Is it better to alter the course of humanity with acts of untold horror? Or better to let them approach some other untold horror down the road... Since all of that would (likely) be by their own hands... I don't suppose there is any difference (Other than, who among us should be worthy of making the decision to commit terrible acts upon others?)

To tread lightly (Hopefully) on the subject of history's views on what is or isn't evil... One doesn't need to look far for large numbers of innocent people being killed and also left with lingering, chronic terrible results. Dropping the bombs on Japan is something that many people today could highly disagree about. And, what is said about it might very well depend upon what nation's history books you read.

Not that this totally represents my own opinions of the aforementioned acts... Life tends be a situation not of rights and wrongs, but of how much wrong you are willing to live with.

    *stops self from babbling further*
  8. Lots of good replies (I do enjoy this community, hehe).

"Hero" and "Evil" are not really proper antonyms.
A good person may never be in a situation to be a hero.
And an evil person may be in such a situation and even do the heroic thing, thus they could be called a "hero" for that action.
The simplest definition of "hero" is just someone that does something with personal risk that results in benefiting another/others.
Someone defined as "evil" could, perhaps even by chance, do something "heroic". Often times, it is not even by chance... A truely determined malevolent being may need to take personal risks in order to accomplish what they want... And there may be many that are benefited from those actions. Those people may see that person as a "hero". I think history is full of questionable (If not "evil") people that were, at one point, seen as "heroes".
Just as many "heroes" have been seen as quite the opposite, whether it is simply as a public menace or far worse.

A term such as "evil" needs to be defined.
Evil is a term not just used for doing wrong, but perhaps used more to define inherently wrong motivations that lead to wrongful actions. "Acts of evil" would be actions that are wrong... But just "evil" on its own seems to be more about the true nature of the being in question.

The judging of particular people/characters is based on what you know about them... and, in reality, that usually falls entirely on their actions.
I mean.. if someone constantly had "evil" thoughts and motivations, but never acted on them... are they "evil"? Are they heroic for fighting against those inner desires? Hmm...
Regardless, other than the above... Steampunkette said what I was going to say:

Evil: Generally Selfish acts or acts which spread emotional or physical pain.

Good: Acts which are altruistic in nature, helping others, supports emotional well being.

Now with Good and Evil so defined...

If you mean Good (Altruism, Helping others, Supporting Emotional Well Being) but do something Evil (Spreads Pain) then you've performed an Evil act... Regardless of motive.

If you mean Evil (Selfish Acts for Selfish Reasons) but do something good (helping Others by doing it) you've performed a good act for an evil reason.

As you can see, the Act itself is unchanged based on motivation... The person is either good or evil by their own nature. A Good person who spreads emotional and physical pain by committing an evil act, with the best of intentions, is still vilified by the act.

An evil person who does a good thing for evil purposes is still an evil person, even though he's held aloft as a hero.

It's not a question of Good or Evil, under this definition. It's a question of Right, Wrong, and public opinion of the acts.

Hehe... And it would be interesting to see who or what else might rise in his place.

That's the kicker about these sorts of things (And why that plot in time travel science fiction always comes up)... Remove (However you do so) one element... And what is the result? No change? (Someone else fills the same role as the one you removed) Change for the worse? (Something even worse occurs instead of what had happened originally [time travelers, please forgive the flippant usage of the term "originally"])
In the end... we are usually left with questioning whether or not there was any worth in those actions and/or if the changes we influenced were better, similar or worse than what would have been otherwise.

Cool... I had just logged on and found that I, too, had this bug and was reading up on what steps to take... when you announce this and I see the updater is fixing these particular files!

Sorry I didn't make them do this sooner, everyone!
It's good to be the king!

    (Hope this actually works!)
  11. This guide is a thing of ugly beauty!
I'm so glad someone else linked to it so that I finally saw this.
I was laughing out loud and my eyes were truly tearing.

I intend to form a super team, all built like this.
I don't know how long it will actually last, but the experience will last a lifetime.
  12. I love this thread!

Hmm, you know, I don't have that many odd things I've done with power sets yet... yet. I mean, I have characters with no travel powers, but that's not that big of a deal.

My big ol' Amazing Ape tank has a terrible disliking of water and freezes in front of those damn puddle-filled cave hallways. Slowly trying to muster the courage to figure a way to work around it... Moving along the edges and doing everything to stay dry (Damn those low ceilings!).

I did create a character that, as soon as I started playing them (On an alt server to try out the look and the powerset) I just knew they had to always run backwards. Everywhere I went, I position the character and camera to run backwards (It's fun using the S key to move towards everything...).
Unfortunately, I didn't stick with the character and make them on my main server... at least, not yet. That wasn't due to this though, just other characters and lack of time and interest in the concept, currently.

    Anyways...

Probably going to take one or two leadership powers or maybe the Presence Pool for the Fears. Using Flight, mostly because of Air Superiority and he seemed like he should have some sort of travel power. At the time, we didn't have Ninja Run.

Note: I don't inflict him on anyone without telling them first. Also, stick primarily to radio missions and try to solo default setting. So far, up to 22 and he's doing relatively well.
    This is great!
Not to make a Batman or anything... But I am going to play around with Mids and see what I might like to try!

And... I just started reading that AR/Ice Guide... HAHA... Wow, this is great so far...
  13. Would the ability to save and load edited and decorated bases/individual-rooms (Like saving costume files) be a pie in the sky sort of desire??

  14. Great suggestions for base editing...
Let me say that more of the items that we see in maps and the rest of the world would be fabulous!
Color tintable furniture would be amazing.
NPCs would be... probably asking too much (But my VG's Casino/Hotel Base could use dealers, staff and other patrons!).

Anyway, you know... I didn't notice this entirely (Or didn't remember it):
    Quote:
Certain restrictions in base building are being adjusted and/or removed so with that comes some freedom and more options, from an editor perspective, the degree of control and fine-tuning you have in placing items.
That is so great... I was going to say, specifically, that allowing a finer control for object placement would be great. Often times, you just cannot center certain objects in relation to other objects... do to the way they snap on the placement grid. Making a more finely tuned placement grid (Or however it really works under the hood) would be just great.
Allowing free vertical movement, of course, would be absolutely super.

Oh... and while we're here.. reflections and shadows in bases would be sweet
  15. Seriously, I don't know how anyone couldn't love our RL WW!
Zero against Posi in the slightest... I'm super glad you have this position and I can't wait to enjoy all that you'll lead the team through!

I know all of us with brains don't get caught up in gender/race/nationalities to important degrees... But... How many female lead game designers of an mmorpg franchise are there?

Male or female, WW is a an awesome Dev and a seemingly great individual.

    And...

And thus this was the last time the Paragon Outdoor Theatre Troupe would attempt Westside Story.
  17. I was wondering what sort of tea a coralax would like...

Captain Picard's customary drink order inevitably entered my head...

But I thought maybe this coralax's tastes might be:

    "Clam juice. Cold."

WW, can you tell us if there will be anything silly in GR?
  18. Take care, Niv and best of luck on your new ventures.
You've done a great job here and I hope you continue to be a part of this great community!

May the force be with you.
  19. When this was necro'd, my first thought was, "OH YAY! Finally some news about Elec Controllers coming SOON"...
It took a couple of days to get over that.

So, now I'm here... And I'm just saying... I really hope it comes soon. I was (Maybe still slightly holding out hope) that it could be somewhat of a surprise addition in Issue 17 (Although, I really doubt that... It would have likely been mentioned in their I17 announcement... Once beta is open, we'll know for sure).

I'm just eager to be able to have a full super team of all Electrically based powers, with all the different hero ATs.

    Excelsior!!

    Oh... and... everyone knows...
The future of communication is smoke signals and blood-curdling screams as mutant invaders charge in to steal your supplies!!

  21. Haha
You know... just for the very opener I was thinking... "Oh dear... This is a guildie of mine"... But yeah, it wasn't too far in that I was like, "Haha, yay for my mate!"

Seriously though... Can us blasters have the Scrapper secondaries now please? (Oh, but can we keep our Manip powers as well... as inherents maybe)

    Hehe, anyways... I enjoyed this!

Now, what does catching a king salmon mean??
  22. Right... It's power-leveling, not farming.
People frequently misuse the term Farming for the other...

I suppose I could say, "I do not think that word means what you think it means".

Even if you're not leveling per se... it is still the term... Power-Earning, maybe?

Hehe... Anyways... yeah... Nothing's gonna change my world... Nothing's gonna change my world...

[EDITED: because as soon as I hit post, I found I had more to say!]
  23. I'm not a frequent sewer team runner nor Atlas Park loiterer...
But... I've never heard of that happening for a sewer run!
    Gah...
I am failing to find the words to express the stupidity of being selective on a sewers team, haha...
    Seriously... Wow...
Sorry you had that experience (More than once!).

This game... Is not that game. I love this game.

(I'm in a good and relaxed mood and replying casually, just in case that's not clear in the text below. Sometimes it's helpful to make that clear)

See that's the complete reverse of it and I know and understand exactly what you're talking about. And I remember players boisterously claiming that skipping these powers is the only smart way to ever play this powerset and/or AT.
In that case it was (Or is, for such people that still feel this way), "The attacks suck! They are a waste! I heal and buff, not attack!".

Well, okay, if someone wants to do that for themselves, for either personal preference of playstyle, conceptual reasons or just to try out something different... Fine!
However, it is not simply correct by default.

And neither is the reverse... claiming that someone should never do that.

Honestly, people claiming this stuff on both sides of the argument are equally flat out wrong.

Now... Me... I dance to the beat of my own drum in all walks and defend anyone who wishes to do so in any field, any time.

What it all comes down to is performance.

To judge beforehand is to jump to conclusions.

Hey, I think we've all been in a situation where it is pretty clear how it will play out.
However, I think we've all also seen how much you can overcome in this game.. and, honestly, how fun is it when you do?
(I Can't tell you how many times I've been in situations where people think it's impossible... but, with a little positive re-enforcement and a bit of strategy... we prevail)

Anyone who, in performance, disrupts or hurts the fun... They need to be corrected or kicked or whatever. That has no bearing on build (How many idiots have you seen with the "correct" cookie cutter build that will destroy fun if left unchecked? I've seen many!).
I've seen too many players on odd builds that perform well enough (And even exceptionally well) to worry about what powers someone has chosen.

Now... newbies who clearly just didn't realize that they need certain defensive toggles in order to survive the way they are playing? They can certainly benefit from some helpful advice and such.

Otherwise... Don't presume you're in a position to edjemucate everyone to your preferred conformity!
