Quote:Are "Halloween themed costumes" the classic costumes or character created costumes. And, if the latter, does it mean more typical Halloween style costumes or anything that someone could wear to a Halloween party?Quote:I'm also curious about how you define Halloween themed costumes. I have a sea monster and a succubus. Would either of those qualify?
From past experiences, these are rather casual (but well run) events where the community team picks winners... The concept of a "Halloween Theme" has a broad definition and I am pretty sure that any and all of those concepts could be winners. You just have to tickle the fancy of the judges!
I could see characters dressed up as famous movie or book characters (Not sure about the whole trademark infringements here... let's just all stay hushed about that, whatdoyasay?)... I could see generic/original interpretations on Halloween-ish themes, scary monsters, even the silly generic halloween costume things, etc... And I could see dressing up as other characters/creatures from the CoH game world.
I'm pretty sure it is safe to assume that the concepts are pretty wide open and any and all of these could be winners!
Then again... Ocho and Avatea could be mean and say that I'm wrong and bar me from taking part because of this post!!
Oooh... speaking of witch... err which... Since I plan to compete... I should have given you all incorrect information!!
Or... DID I????
Muhahaha... ha... ha... ahem... is anyone reading this any more?

Fantastic!!
As much as I may grumble about some of the prices of the add ons (Hey, I'm cheap!!), I really appreciate the fact that you guys give out these things as prizes. You can just sell them and make yer profits... But you also choose to hand them out as rewards.
Very very cool.
It almost makes me want to forgo entering the contest, so that I can pay for the pack myself... ALMOST!
Bring it on, costume makers!!
(haha.. just kidding... Good luck everyone! I will likely show up for some partying!!) -
Ahem... Will the NA versions of the game include these cool-**** winning loading screens?
Hehe, I'm just being cheeky... I do hope, one day, the means to combine server lists can happen though!!
Congratulations to the winners!!
Those are some sweet looking shots!! -
Agreed with the OP!
As for guessing the release date... I've been leaning towards within two weeks of the Origins Pack (November 3rd).
I just hope I'm not being too optimistic with that. For all we know, it could get pushed back, possibly beyond the Thanksgiving holiday (Although, that seems unlikely... I'm trusting in a Fall release... but things happen and sometimes cause things to be delayed and all... better to be prepared).
I recently started a MA/SR scrapper and... I have to admit that most of my characters/ATs/Powerset Choices never really made me desire Stamina MORE.
Oh, I've chosen Stamina with many of my characters, but few of them felt like they needed it for the sake of my fun.
I am pretty sure that MA/SR is an exceptional candidate for WANT STAMINA NAO... However, I am also certain that knowing inherent Stamina is around the corner is making it a million times worse.
I really need to go in and slot those End. Reductions into my attacks (Which I have not done).
I just want my inherent stamina, heehee...
Of course, there are plenty of other things I am looking forward to.
Fortunately, as that less-than-perfect Guy inferred, I do enjoy the game as is and am having a blast regardless of my eagerness for I19!! -
Answer: The father that married his own son's adult step-daughter and thus made his son his own grandpa!!!
Many, many years ago when I was just twenty-three,
I was married to a widow, she was pretty as could be.
This widow had a grown-up daughter who had hair of red
And my father fell in Love with her. Soon they too were wed.
This made my dad my son-in-law--changed my very life!
My daughter was my mother because she was my father's wife!
To complicate the matter even though it brought me joy,
I soon became the father of a bouncing baby boy.
My little baby he then became a brother-in-law to Dad.
Well, that made him my uncle--made me very sad!
Because if he was my uncle then he also was a brother
To the widow's grown-up daughter, who, of course, was my stepmother.
I'm my own grandpa! I'm my own grandpa!
It sounds funny, I know, but it really is so!
Oh, I'm my own grandpa!
My father's wife then had a son who kept them on the run.
And, of course, he became my grandchild because he was my daughter's son.
My wife is now my mother's mother and this makes me blue
Because although she is my wife, she's my grandmother too!
I'm my own grandpa! I'm my own grandpa!
It sounds funny, I know, but it really is so!
Oh, I'm my own grandpa!
Now if my wife is my grandmother, well, then I am her grandchild,
And every time that I think about this, it nearly drives me wild!
Because now I have become the strangest case that you ever saw
As husband of my grandmother, I'm my own grandpa!
I'm my own grandpa! I'm my own grandpa!
It sounds funny, I know, but it really is so!
Oh, I'm my own grandpa!

Big multi quote post coming... not sure why!
Quote:I suppose we could spin it positively and say that they've under-priced the Super Boosters in the past.Although I get that I'm quite late to reply, I would like to bundle in with the guys that think that this is overpriced.
If super boosters are ten bucks and aesthetic packs are less, then this should cost less. I won't deny that this pack is right down my street, so I'll probably be buying it regardless; I don't really like that I will, or think it fair that I'll be paying the price of a super booster for something less.
Not that I necessarily believe this...
Honestly, another way to look at it is that the costs have gone up (as happens with everything) and instead of making boosters that they'd charge $15-20 for, they're keeping the price the same, but putting less into them.
Or... We're just wrong in thinking this way and the amount of hard work and talent that went into this pack is actually equal to the previous Super Boosters.
I do understand what you're saying though!
Quote:I'm glad you have the money to waste on tar and feathers...

Quote:Quote:The mutant stuff doesn't look that appealing from the trailer (auras seem similar to ones we already have), but the stuff for the other origins ranges from cool to genuinely inspired.
The capes have less interest for me than the auras, but I'm sure I'll use both and I look forward to seeing what the really accomplished costume designers do with the capes.
Honestly, the cape may even be cooler used more subtly (subdued color in relation to the body... Although, I don't think I have any designs that would call for it).
I am curious about the toxic vapor one.
I'll have to see it firsthand to see if it may work to create the illusion of a nasty/foul/hardly-visible gaseous odor that could be found around Zox'Oculox's head and gaping mouth:
-
Oh hey...
And I am curious if the capes will all (or some) have all of the mantle options.
In the video, we see the full mantle and the Science one has the half mantle... It looks like the rest are all full mantles, but it is hard to tell (Mutant has the Reaper piece covering it up). I'm hoping we'll have the over the shoulders mantle (and asymmetrical mantle as well).
And... I am curious if the Ultramode reflectiveness is on the Impervium Mantle Cape's mantle as well.
Can an over the shoulder mantle have Ultramode reflections??
Kinda sweet, if possible... also understandable if not!
Just curious! -
Hehe...
How about this for a game...
Next person to talk about other people's money gets tarred and feathered!
Let's all chill out and leave this thread for more on topic posts!
Like...
The more I look at it, the more that Nature Cape is looking really, supremely fascinatingly done.
The actual leaves sticking out on it (If I am seeing it correctly) is quite a nice and new look for any capes we have.
I'm very interested to see that thing in action and "in person" (so to speak).
EDIT: Oh, I suppose that the feather cape includes somewhat of the same element.
Still... it looks like some fine work. -
Nah, it is canon. I think it mentions such things in the Origin write-up...
If not... I will stand (or sit) corrected!
EDIT:
Oh, I meant to add a bit more...
Just that each origin has a very wide interpretation and that whenever someone tries to represent that with just one example... It's not going to be able to represent every angle.
Natural origin can be an alien who has abilities beyond normal humans or it could be a human who has trained and pushed him or herself to their peak ability, and so on.
The "nature" aspect is, no doubt, questionable... But... Meh... Who cares... it's some cool stuff
We'll get more "Natural" stuff some other way! -
-
Gotta agree with Feycat and Lemur Lad...
Not only have some of these options been asked for, but they're allowed to be creative on their own (And it is appreciated).
Also... Magical Rune Aura in combat only... Why didn't I think of how cool that is... -
Quote:Well, I actually said in a previous post that, compared to the previous boosters, it was over-priced.There's a difference between saying they can't afford it, and it's overpriced. One is personal and can't be argued, the other implies a general condition for a large portion or a majority. Saying it's overpriced is what makes me blink.
However, I did then go on to say that, perhaps, instead of that, the cost has simply gone up, so they are putting less into them and charging the same price.
To each their own!
(And two for me!) -
To be fair... Different people in different situations and different locations can have a vastly different economic perspective.
Sure, some can say, "If such and such dollars is too much for them, then they shouldn't be forking over the money for ISP and monthly subscriptions"... however, every budget has its lines and every person has their own right to make their choices and their own perspectives on what is good, good enough and affordable.
Just because some people don't understand why such and such amount of dollars may or may not be a problem... Doesn't mean it is wrong, misinformed, ignorant or irresponsible.
We all have different lives and I'm not going to dismiss the value others place on any amount of money, no matter how different it may be from my own situation. -
Just to be clear...
All I meant in my reply was that you nailed it, displayed how much there is in Issue 19 that was not tied to GR and that I fully supported that stance and appreciated your post.
Instead of saying that... I quoted GG's comment and paraphrased Monty Python in an attempt to be silly.
Perhaps my intentions were not clear, heehee!
Doh!! -
Quote:Just a couple of quick things of note, to me, about what you've said...So let me get this right:
5 Capes
10 Auras (Technically 20 if you count Always-on and Combat separate Auras)
All available starting at Character Creation and for all pre-20 (Capes) or pre-30 (Auras) existing Characters.
For $10 US?
I'd say that it's a reasonable offer. If it was just that they unlocked normally, then I'd say no. I would then say this pack would then be worth between $6 - $8 US to me.
It is worth noting that while I do plan on purchasing this pack, it's not without reservations. I think the overall value, per Booster/Pack, has been falling off over the last three (GRCC, Party, Origin). I believe the real issue isn't the Quality (save the Stealth power in the GRCC), but what the overall value given.
Generally, what the playerbase expects for a $10 US Booster/Pack has been:
- One to Two Costume Sets (Full or Partial) for all three body types
- Several Emotes
- Some novel power or similar ability
Now with the GRCC Pack, we got most of that, save a rather crappy temp power, for less than usual (about $7 US, IIRC...) Booster/Pack cost. It's not bad, but I hope that Marketing doesn't consider that the new base line.
I have expressed my displeasure with the Value of the Party Pack in several of the official and non-official threads. I don't feel I need to bring it up again here. That said, while the quality of the emotes is wonderful, I can not see myself purchasing this particular Pack ever.
Now with the Origin Pack, we have a quandary. This Pack doesn't fit under the usual item amounts of a typical pack. So how to measure it's value? What we are getting is:
- Three to Four more Capes than usual
- Six to Eight more (or more depending on how you count) Auras than have been featured in a Booster/Pack before.
- No actual Costume parts, save for the Capes and Auras
- All items in the Pack available to all Characters on the Account at Character Creation or without being the minimum Level and running the required mission Arcs.
It's the last item that brings up the overall Value of this Pack, to me. The majority of my Characters that would use the Auras are mainly 25 or lower. As I have a nasty case of Altitis, I'd say that using some of these Auras on those characters is gonna be a nice thing.
I just worry as to what the future of the Booster/Pack givings are going to be. I think a better balance of what gets put into a Booster/Pack and what is delivered in a Issue release might want to be looked at in better detail.
Thank you for the time...
I'm not sure what your issue with the GRCC pack is. It comes with a bunch of terrific stuff and was for a low price. I think it was a great purchase (I actually picked up the GRCC when it went live, as I did not pre-purchase, but still... that seemed to be a great deal).
Also, not only have all booster capes and auras (Cyborg combat auras) granted those options at character creation, the Alpha and Omega auras from the GRCC are available from character creation. So, that aspect of the Origins Pack is not a new/unique feature to it.
So, yeah, I'm not disagreeing with your overall assessment of the Origins Pack, but I just saw a couple of things that I thought were incorrect and/or I disagreed with.
It's funny... what is a couple of dollars? However, I do feel like $10 is higher than it should be.
It was just assumptions by others (And I didn't think of it until others said it in the previous (unofficial) thread) about how "Super Boosters" cost $9.99 and regular "Packs" would cost $7.99.
Obviously, those were incorrect assumptions.
What is sad is... that made sense!
I guess it didn't make enough cents though!
BP, that's the problem with you marketing peoples... Your brains are full of cents and lack sense.
Still... I recognize that I cannot go down the street to another store and buy myself an Impervium Mantle Cape cloak thing garment apparel shoal.
So... we'll see
All in all... I like this pack.
When I judge it against the previous packs and their prices... it's over-priced...
However... What do we buy that stays the same price?
So... the cost of Boosters/Packs have gone up.
The GRCC was a unique and kind offering (Perhaps to appease those who complained about not being able to prepurchase the CC version).
The cost of packs has gone up...
And instead of making $15+ boosters... they are putting less in them and keeping the price the same.
Like King Size Snickers Bars...
They made them smaller, but charged the same price, because the costs of making them went up.
C'est la vie!
Also... why not just put these live tomorrow? -
Oh!
Emote Music Sounds:
Objective Feedback:
The sounds from certain emotes - Drum and Drumlow along with the boomboxes - used to play the sounds/music through the regular sound options... but, a few issues ago, they were switched to the Music sound options.
Subjective: As someone who plays with the music options turned off to not hear the in-game zone music (Not because I hate it or anything, I just prefer no background music)... I would like to still be able to hear the banging of drums and the music coming from placed boom boxes.
The only good thing this change did, for ME, is it removed the music in the sewer entrances (Which I never understood why that was there, hehe).
If you could switch the emotes to be a part of the environment sounds rather than the music sounds, you'd make me rather happy! -
Quote:Bah... quick-release cape snaps...If I may, I'd like to quote a very wise woman...
"Do you remember Thunderhead? Tall, storm powers? Nice man, good with kids. November 15th of '58! All was well, another day saved, when... his cape snagged on a missile fin! Stratogale! April 23rd, '57! Cape caught in a jet turbine! Metaman, express elevator! Dynaguy, snagged on takeoff! Splashdown, sucked into a vortex! No capes!"
But the auras look quite nice, so I'll probably buy this when I buy a copy for Kyo's account.
I'm so sick of that anti-cape thing being thought of as true... Only fools die due to capes.
*gets his cape blown up over his face and suffocates*
Oh... And I really want that Impervium Mantle Cape (cloak, thing... haha, isn't "Mantle Cape" redundant, needlessly repetitive and the like and so on and so forth?) -
Quote:I'd like the spam, spam, spam, spam and eggs without the spam, please! That's not true. Issue 19 and probably 20 include content that do not require Going Rogue.
More tip missions, merged Trains, inspirations in every hospital, 2 free auras, Calvin Scott Task force in oroborous, One brand new story arc for each side, alternate power animations, inherent fitness, the ability to log out to character select, and new badges are ALL FREE.
[EDIT] Furthermore, if you continue to make the assertion that issue 19 is nothing more than tacked on additions that they couldn't add to the release because they "rushed it", then that logic also applies to the first 18 issues doing the same thing for heroes and the past 12 for villains. Which is just silly.
Quote:[edit]I'm pretty sure my memory is wrong. :P
I dunno why I thought everything was 20 all of a sudden lol
Quote:...
I wonder if they could add an aura for cape only? Flaming capes, capes with steam billowing out of them might actually look pretty cool.
It could be rather cool... In my opinion!
Okay... it sounds like her!!
(haha, for the record, it isn't really her)
Quote:Very true. It still matters how that critique is presented to be helpful or not or even read by the people who need to read it. There's good and bad ways to express an opinion. So.. I agree with you but I agree with others who have issues with how said comments are given.
I've voiced criticisms, but I try to do so with respect and sound reason (Which I "borrow" from my victims).
Saying things shortly and rudely is never a clever thing to do and rarely helpful, other than to indicate to others that you (such a person) are rude. -
I found the power that the Ghoul LTs have and the aspect of improved coding for Enemy AI very interesting.
Very cool solution for the targeted taunt/aggro magnet power and...
I wonder what the new easier method for up-scaling NPC AI could lead to.
Even just the ability for NPCs to recognize the status of allies could lead to some very fun and dynamic encounters... great new tools for the Devs to play with... for us to play with!
I enjoyed those insights.
Nice job, Castle! -
Hmm... This latest reply begs a new question *points to altered subject line*
Would you watch a 5th Indiana Jones movie starring Pee Wee Herman as the new Indiana?
I'd have to say that I would definitely watch that.
Pee Wee, in his regular outfit plus fedora and whip!!! -
Ooh, I can get myself one while I throw one in for my wife's birthday...
Quote:Hey! That's my wife's birthday too!Me too! My birthday is November 2nd. TAKE NOTE DEVS AND MARKETING.
Wait... you're not her, are you??
Quote:I'm buying it the moment it's released. Pal's either getting a gold and blue colored atomic aura, or silvery runes - it's too early to decide which.
I'd be willing to pay a little extra for the quality that's just overflowing from this pack, so $10-15 is reasonable to me. The only thing that would make this even better would be if we could have natural auras, and not just nature - but then, natural heroes probably wouldn't have an aura in the first place.
I think I've sat next to a few people with natural auras on the bus...
Also, think Pig Pen from the Peanuts.
Quote:*grins* You could always put the Flies aura on a Natural character for having gone Natural a bit too long...
As to boosters containing powers...
The thing is... if every booster has a power, eventually we will have way too many powers and the problems associated with balancing them all, inventing new ones, so on and so forth has been touched on in the past and are valid reasons for understanding why maybe a move away from boosters with powers is a good idea.
Like it or not, paid for add-ons are a part of this game now.
I will say this concerns me in one area... Potential new players who take a look and see so much cool stuff tied to additionally purchased packs can easily turn them off and/or give them somewhat of a false impression as to how much this company/game may nickel and dime them.
People don't like to enter into subscriptions with companies that they feel will be too overzealous with extra purchases/fees.
If they have concepts that require most of the packs and/or are completionists (seem like so many are these days), you've got a hefty amount to fork over just to catch up.
I'm not saying they are right to think this game will nickel and dime them too much, but I can see how some may think they're doing themselves a favor to avoid getting involved.
That concerns me, as subscription growth is always a concern. -
Subjective Feedback:
I love the sounds for the Electric Blast and Manipulation Powers! ZAP ZAP!!
Demons are loud and persistent. Maybe some adjustment on their volume and/or the frequency of their howling would be a good thing.
-
-
I see no reason to believe these devs would make the options limited to a character's origin.
I don't believe that will be the case at all.
There is an imaginary negative forum-goer inside of my head (damn you) that is prodding my brain, wondering...
The two new emotes that were leaked and then revealed as I19 content...
- Did they really intend to give those out for Issue 19?
- Did they have two extras (Or make two more to get the 2 for each origin) and adjusted things to provide the snow and fireflies auras for free?
- Or are there more auras laying around, maybe held off for future releases, since they gave away two that may have been for the booster?
annoying imaginary negative forum-goer inside of my head wants to know!
-
Certainly an appealing booster (Well, for some, at least).
Quickly, on the "so soon" topic... I don't entirely disagree, but what I felt was too soon was the Party Pack so quickly after a brand new expansion.
That I thought was cheeky (And not so favorable... nasty marketing).
Forgetting all of that...
There are some cool looking options there. I have to wonder if the auras will include the various body placement options, as all the new auras have thus far.
I should think they will... but I'm eager to find out for sure.
And... that Impervium Mantle Cape looks like it could have many uses.
I can see already though... That I'd wish for an option without that specific pattern on it, haha... I've long wanted a leathery/shiny textured cape!
Still, it looks like some good stuff.
