A blaster can fire at a running target at range - other than spine scrappers with impale, the rest of them can't do that.

Or Tankers with Hurl from SS or Stone, or APPs.

But, better to start at "too weak" and buff as needed, rather than "too strong" and nerf it, right?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Bingo.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, based on your guys time frame with letting Trick Arrow be an at best mediocre power set for months on end now, we can expect the empowerement buffs to be useful sometime in 2007?
  3. My only qualm at this point is the timer. Given the rarity of salvage drops, the ridiculous method of mission location allocation in CoH (Contact in FF gives you a mission in Creys Folly or something similar) and the fact that in CoH bases you can't port to non-hazard zones (or even all the hazard zones), 15 minutes is just far too short.

I didn't see anything about an influence bank.

Did I miss it? Will I still need to have another player character to transfer funds to my lowbies?

EDIT: Beyond that.... VERY NICE STUFF, Devs

    [/ QUOTE ]

You won't. The devs don't want you twinking your lowbies out with influence like that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah! They want us twinking our alts by buying their SOs for them and putting them in a box in your base.

Which is pretty much the same thing

    Costs for a 10-slot inspiration bin? 1million!

    Cost for a 10-slot enhancement container? 500K!

I'm just afraid to even ponder how much these things will cost.....Everything even remotely nice is priced so that small groups can't get them. I'll wait till it hits test to see if my SG has a chance at ever owning one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just so you all realize, the prices Lektrik wrote are completely made up.

Everything in this issue will be "reasonably priced". It doesn't make sense for us to set out to help small supergroups and then charge large supergroup Prestige for the items.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Who cares about the prices, this is still a CoH update preview that doesn't apply to anyone who doesn't have CoV.

When will we get a preview of actual CoH updates in I7?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    What CoH updates?

Are there any plans to let Hero players get into their SG bases, as opposed to just Villain players that also play heroside?

None of this is at all useful if you can't actually get in.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    ::sigh::

Go buy CoV for $30 at a store. "UPGRADE" your account and you get a free month.

    Net cost: $15

That's $15 for four extra slots per server, a whole game's worth of new content, access to all of the SG Base features, and (probably in Issue 7) hero-access to the tons of new CoV costume options.

Seems like a pretty good deal to me...but that's just me. Obviously some don't agree.

    [/ QUOTE ]

How dare you start using logic on this subject?

    Great post.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hell, I recently saw the Collectors Edition on sale for $30 Canadian. CoV is cheap right now.
  7. Posi, please tell me we can set permissions by character or SG rank for access to storage bins.

A post count doesnt define a person's intelligence.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Seriously. I mean, just because I have a bunch of posts doesen't mean my opinions are suddendly more valid then a new poster.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Similarly, it doesn't mean you opinions are any less valid. Post count is just a measure of how much people post, and can't be taken for much more than that.

Going by the amount of suggestions on these boards (sensical or not) you'd be hard pressed to find any change that *wasn't* mentioned in some obscure corner of the boards, somewhere...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Back during Beta there was huge debate on how 'Combat Flight' was a rotten power that should be much faster because pedestrians walked quicker . . .

It was suggested they change the name to 'Hover' to more adequately reflect what the power did instead of changing the power.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmmm. Maybe thats why they called the Peacebringer Inherrant version of Hover "Combat Flight"

Also, to the poster asking about Coyote, yes, the player passed away. His name was Mathew Bragg I believe. I didnt know him, but I did think it was a very classy thing on the Devs part to replace the generic cop contact in Outbreak with him.

I miss the old TG grasp animation. The old animation just had so much more style than the goofy handclap we have now. At least it survives in two powers, Bitter Freeze Ray and Thunderous Blast.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The old animation looked really nice, I'll give you that! But it was just like the Trick Arrow and Archery animations now... it looked very sweet, but was painfully slow, specially for a PBAoE heal.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is true. People did get killed due to the slowness of the animation.

I wouldnt mind seeing it being used as the summoning animation for Dark Servant though. I think DS and Darkest Night have the same "raise arms with palms up turned animation."
  13. I miss the old TG grasp animation. The old animation just had so much more style than the goofy handclap we have now. At least it survives in two powers, Bitter Freeze Ray and Thunderous Blast.

I'm not sure if these were directly the result of forum suggestions, but me and some other long time Dark Defenders did complain about several things in Dark Miasma that got changed. Whether our efforts have any relation to the changes that were made, I can't say, since we had little to no dev communication on the buffs.

-Shadowfall originally couldnt be slotted for Damage Resistance. After much complaining about this, the ability to slot DR was added. It may just have been a bug that DR was not slottable the whole time, since Steamy Mist never had that problem, and the two powers are basically the same, just with different graphics and damage resitance types.
-Dark Servant was made mobile and given equivalent recharge and duration to Controller pets, and had Fearsome Stare replaced with Petrfying Gaze. The power change may not sound like a buff now, but this was back when Fear caused scatter instead of cower.
-Some suggested that Dark Miasma needed a way to boost offense. Tar Patch was given -Res to meet this need.

First, Mayhem missions aren't generally at the Portal Corp.

Second, Longbow is one of the groups you might be fighting. There are others.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Third. Still sick of seeing Longbow and CoT...

    Just saying...

Would like to see Malta operating in CoV, more from the Wyvern, etc. Especially want more good guys to fight. Even the latest info on I7 today makes me feel like I am a hero, or at best a rival gang in a turf war. Mayhem Missions do sound like a step in the right direction, but don't forget from an overall motivation and storyarc perspective we'd like to be VILLAINS not just playing king of the hill.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Longbow are crap. They don't even look cool. Somehow they're supposed to evince the retro Golden Age/Silver Age but they just end up looking like embarrassed mercenaries with spandex wedgies.

If we're going against a hero paramilitary org. can't we fight something as sophisticated and original as the Malta?? It was great taking on Gunslingers and giant robots. Instead we have inferior looking Statesman clones using the silliest gun model in the game. Yeah, fun. Plus they're in every other mission. At least give them some cooler vehicles instead of recycled Sky Raider skiffs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have to agree. Its a shame that the only Longbow with decent costumes are the Spec Ops, and they use Stealth so you dont see the costume half the time.

Longbow are way overexposed in CoV. For some reason they created an interesting heroic group of magic users in the Legacy Chain, and then promptly proceeded to not use them very much.

The lighting field cast on a enemy and hits his near by buddies. This would also to me apply to the slow toggle in the ice secondary and i think its combustion in fire that both effect enemies only when they get near the player. I think it could add alot to these two secondaries to have that changed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Forget lightning field. Added damage is nice but imagine if you could drop Hot feet down in an area instead of having it PbAoE around you. Now, that would be a good reason to take the Fire Secondary and a nice pay-off for a level 38 power.

Look at Frozen Aura. Bam, targetable ranged AoE sleep. Suddenly the power is actually usefull to the majority of blasters and not just to the select few who work around it's draw backs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Good points. There are some powers in the Blaster secondaries (especially Fire) that would work well as ranged drop powers:

-Burn at range would be great! Combine Ring of Fire and Burn.
-Hot Feet at range would be great also. Caltrops but with larger AE.
    -Frozen Aura would be useful.
-Ice Patch is probably too powerful to make ranged.
-Time Bomb or Trip Mine as ranged wouldn't affect the power's strength but would make it nicer to use compared to asking a team to wait while you smoke and toe bomb.

    [/ QUOTE ]

We already have Burn at Range, its called Ignite . Ice Patch could at least get a range like Caltrops. I dont think that would overpowered.

I PM'd Castle about a week or two ago.

    He's pretty busy with Blasters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Howabout some other devs? Hope he's sharing the burden if he can at all.

Anyways, I hope he has some news soon. I'm pretty sure the devs are aware that there are imbalances with Blaster primaries and secondaries, I just hope they care enough to fix 'em in a timely fashion, and open-minded enough to think that they should at all!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I PM'ed Geko maybe... 3 or 4 months ago asking him if he could post where they were at on looking at Blaster Secondaries (high/low priority, if anything was being done yet etc.) No reply... is it true he turned off PMs?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Bwuh? When did the lizard start taking PM's? He hasnt taken them in years.
  17. [ QUOTE ]

Aren't anchors supposed to drop if you break LOS?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, they aren't. They break based on distance only. The fact that LoS isn't required for anchored debuffs was one of the reasons my Dark Defender could herd most of monkey island in PI back in the day.

It's also the key to clustering mobs for AoEs. You smack your toggle debuff on a foe, then dance around a corner. As the foes come around a corner, they tend to cluster up, making hitting them with an AoE easier. This works particularly well with Tar Patch of course. My corrupotor uses this to pull a room full of mobs onto a Tar Patch before using Blizzard on em.
  18. [ QUOTE ]

Seems to me the logical place to put in would be the snipes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Pil, dont forget that two sets dont have snipes. Ice and Sonic.

Let's not forget... uh... what's his name... the guy who was the Corruptor Rep in CoV Beta who singlehandedly angered all the most vocal corruptors (besides myself) on that board. The one that handles missions and ambushes, I think?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Devastatus or something like that. He only posted twice in CoV beta, so I'm not too clear on his name.

The other thing I wanted to say about that, is that I don't buy when developers claim that us mean posters hurt their feeling and make them not want to talk with us. The developers have the control. Their input has much more force than any poster. I'm sorry but suck it up. This is the only service industry where client service is thought to be optional.

  21. [ QUOTE ]
I like melee attacks, but I think there are just some powers in practically every secondary that should get a second look. Heck, there are powers in most primaries that also need a look, but I think secondaries are the biggest problem.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I tend to agree. In general, I believe that until every power in every powerset is a strong choice and not something you think "Hey, I can drop this for the fitness pool powers and not miss anything worthwhile" the devs shouldnt be content.

    Two things...

    [ QUOTE ]
    1. We're looking into the tweak to Endurance for mobs that's affected Endurance Drain abilities. Sorry about that!

    2. We'll be putting in a check that prevents "one shotting"; if anything occurs within a fraction of second that brings a player from 100% Hit Points down to 0, we instead give the player 1% Hit Points.

    That's all for now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

States, while I'm glad both of these things are being looked at, I think if you're going to make these kind of announcements you need to be more specific about what changes are being considered, what they might entail. These one liners of yours just tend to lead to pages and pages of speculation that usually degenerate into flamewars.

I like my Ice Sword how it is thanks. I'd much rather replace Frozen Aura with Ice Sword Circle, or better, Greater Ice Sword.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If the only difference between Ice Sword and Ice Sword Circle is that one is ST and the other is AE, why would you prefer the ST attack?

I was imagining it might be to keep you from waking sleepers in Frozen Aura, but given that you want to rid yourself or that puppy, I don't see what disadvatnage it causes. Please, educate me.

As to getting Greater Ice Sword. Well, people in hell want greater ice swords, too.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I'd prefer Ice Sword over Ice Sword Circle (If I had to choose between the two) due to animation time (especially if Ice Sword Circle has that pause at the end of the animation like Fire Sword Circle), endurance cost, and recharge.

My blaster that has the Ice Secondary is AR/Ice, and Ice Sword is a good suplement to AR's mediocre single target damage. Also, being AR, I need more AoE (Especially a PbAoE) like I need a hole in my head. For Ice/Ice blasters, I can see how they might prefer an AoE in their secondary to supplement the middling AoE in the Ice Primary.

I'd also love to ditch Frozen Aura because its woefully underpowered as a level 38 power. Were it ranged like Siren's Song I could see some point in it being where it is, but all in all, if I want a Blaster with an AoE sleep, I can get one 20 levels earlier with equivalent recharge, duration and better range, I'll make a Sonic Blaster.

I also think, with Chill Blain, Ice Patch, Shiver, Freezing Touch and at present Chilling Embrace, Ice manipulation just doesnt need an AoE sleep to add to its control. I think Ice needs it's equivalent to Total Focus to bring it up to par, and Ice Sword Circle or Greater Ice Sword are my canditates for that job.

I do love the idea you mention'ed about making Lighting Field and other similar powers Foe Anchored damage auras similar to foe anchored debuffs.

I am putting the requirements for Contacts - and their location - in the Prima Guide...

but here was our intent with these Contacts - reward Exploration. Reward people who poke around to find new things. Now, the down side is that once found, these Contacts don't inform the player about what it takes to unlock them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't get me wrong, rewards are good. But, would you consider some type of hints in-game for the non-forum, non-guide reading folks?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think they really do some need hints in the game from other contacts about the existance of the unlockables, and the unlockable contacts need to give somekind of hint about what it takes to unlock them. I'd much rather learn of the existance of unlockable contacts in the game, and get hints that I might be able to figure out the requirement from in game, rather than just going to a fan-site (or these forums) and looking at a chart, which right now is the most efficient way to find out about theses guys.
