here's a chuckle for you >.>
Animaniacs and the DCAU cartoons... those were written and story boarded in america, but they were animated in asia... just like just about everything else nowadays...
TMNT 2003 and TMNT classic both done in asia
Just about anything good you can think of from your childhood that is asian animated.
The crapilly animated shows produced in your childhood were, as they are now, the only animated shows animated in america.
The only good animation you see coming out of america is Disney because Disney animators are bat-**** nuts. They have a rule that every frame must differ from every other frame in the movie... meaning that every second of film that you see you are literally seeing at least 30 things move.
Story wise. There are some good stories in Comics, don't get me wrong, but for the most they are just crap or mediocre at best. While in Manga most are mediocre to really great and there is a reason for this. It's a simple matter of logistics Comics don't have dedicated teams that last and they are usually not working on their own from the ground up story so this disallows for really impressive story arcs and it's more fan fiction than anything else at this point... Not to mention because of this turn over a lot of crappy people get on books as a test run or something while in Manga you pretty much build up your own story and remain on it till your done and most of the testing phase is done in one shots or in a form that is more of a niche than anything else so the top and middle always looks better.
Basically Comics let the schlock get to the top and the very they conduct business is and for the overall process while Manga keeps the schlock at bottom for the most part and the overall process is more conducive to better stories. Especially with the You stop producing sales you get fired mentality they have.
Comic characters vs Manga characters... Now the thing here is that Comic characters have usually been around for more than 20 years so even if they are pretty ****** character they are going to have depth and be more than 1 dimensional, but most Comic characters are one dimensional for a very long period in their history. Where on the other hand Manga characters have to show depth pretty much right away because that's what we expect and one dimensional characters are spotted rapidly because we're more used to a multi-faceted character and so when we see dull characters in Manga we think that's they're worse than comic characters, when usually the comic characters have just been around for a really long time and were worse when they began.
As far as cartoons vs anime...the same arguments apply but even more so because the majority of cartoons are schlock, visuals with social commentary, or have a background in the comics... those that don't are comedic 5 min shorts and have little depth to them overall... and they are almost all centered at kids. So anime wins pretty much hands down for this point.
When you get right down to it the best pure cartoons are Bug Bunny and the Warner Brothers stuff or Disney animated films which are largely rip offs. How does that compare say Voltron, Speed Racer, or ThunderCats. They're very far apart and hard to compare but if we're looking at the full picture I'd have to give it to Anime and not Cartoons. -
White Hot Flash,
The cowl structure, under it has to be there for biological, physics, and practicality reasons. The reason it was put in military head gear was because even though the helmet could stop the bullet the person wearing the helmet would get a concussion due to the force. It's also necessary to have it for storage of various lenses that are built in. A headphone type ear piece is in there because it's the most practical and safe...you don't want to fidget for an ear piece or risk not having it in properly when dealing with various villains.
From the perspective of just looking at the cowl it would look the same on the outside, but the way it looks on the inside and when it's torn apart would look far more high tech based on how Batman would operate. Not to mention it's been mentioned to not be over-reliant on the technology and as such would likely not incorporate anything that wasn't to some degree fool proof.
The cape connected to the cowl simply doesn't work due to, as i pointed out, he has removed it and put it back on without effort, from the cowl which means it's separate. We know it's connected to the gorget because that's the point of the gorget.
He could be using nanotech to removes seems and such, but again that wouldn't make sense given batman's not wanting to rely on tech and a perfectly obvious lower tech practical way of doing it and not to mention if they had done that the gorget would have made no sense as it was put in place to prevent strangulation by the cape if it ever got caught in a way that it would occure. If it was nanite he'd have just made them release.
We've pretty much seen every configuration the cap/cowl can be in and because of that we can say it is likely a 3 piece system.
Also I'm not saying the way we have seen things aren't how they look, but not 100%... sorta like a minimalist representation of the suit, leaving out things that are state, like there being some sort of bolting in the suit that... th question is taking it to the 100% accurate to the description mark work against the character or not?
ebon3,
I hadn't thought of that... I'd think it's at least one of the layers as I know he uses Kevlar/Nomex bi-weave material (stops slashes, bullets, and is thermal resistent) as well as have a lead lining and the top part of the suit we see is thinner than bullet proofing. I would also suspect that the bat and the chest area is lined with ceramic plating as that is where it would do the most good and have the least impact on the suit. -
You know after reading through so much batman I just now realized... I don't think the bat suit has ever been shown properly.
For example.
The Cape and cowl is always shown as one piece, but...
We know that the cape is detachable from the cowl part... but it gets more tricky the cap is attach to a steel gorget that doesn't seem to be directly attached to the gorget because if it were it would be too stiff. On the other hand the cowl has been shown to be ripped apart but we never see anything underneath. This can't be because there are lenses, electronics, and is bullet proof. If it didn't have not just a tight fit but a head structure something like a military helmet it would cause batman to have a concussion...
This structure is always referred to but never accurately shown... Wonder what people would think if they saw it...would that lessen what Batman is by showing it?
Also, when you think about it, the Bat-suit in the movie, is way off the mark for what it would look like in reality given what we know about the suit... it would look more like the comic given Batman's disposition and training... the suits in the movies don't make much sense >.>
i wonder if there is any illustrations of the complete suit in detail as they would be. -
If anything comics are ruining manga and anime >.>
Manga and Anime in general is just better than Comics and Cartoons in terms of story, characters, and in number of other ways.
The main things that are better in Comics/Cartoons than Manga/anime are they hide their tropes better and generally speaking, the animation is better on a technical level. Also the characters are a bit more iconic it seems.
I don't care about the art style as there is an equal amount of diversity and shlock and I appreciate the styles for what they are.
The biggest problem with Comics is they are pretty much just a large compilation of crappy stories with some good stories mixed in and this is because a majority of the time they don't have a direction. They just sorta tell mini stories till they come up with something which takes anywhere between a year to 5... -
Quote:I do not snack unless the meal I had that day was inadequate to begin with.If you want your weight to come down, your eating habits will need to change regardless of your exercise level. Eating one massive meal a day to account for your caloric intake (and I'm guessing there's mild snacking at other times as well, since a human body will get hungry) is rather unhealthy.
-
Quote:...Just about every suggestion to eat less or exercise more has been dismissed as impossible or impractical.
See if this is what you think then this the majority of my problem, as I have been saying, on these forums. You apparently don't actually read what was written.
Ironik gave great advice and I'm going to try to follow it.
Rian has set me on the idea of a recumbent bike.
someone mentioned the groceries express thing
Then there are the two exercise sites mentioned that i said i don't know about one due to needing to read and the other there are a few problems but look overall a good idea.
Now the difference between what those things answer that i needed answer is that are looking at what I said I couldn't do and made suggestions as to ways around it that I didn't know about.
While just about everyone else that posted posted practical basic advice that really doesn't help because it's stuff I know and most people do. That's not to be interpreted as a swift kick in the head to those offering advice, but rather just saying when I answered to those posts what I might have contained is why I couldn't do X or an explanation as to why X was the case rather than "yeah that's a great idea"...because they weren't really suggestions on what to do in my situations but generic to dos. All that being said I still thank those people because it has help clarify for suggestions i could actually try. -
Chrome,
I can do no more than make the chances I can make that suit me. As people keep pointing out it is a life style change and quite frankly if it's not a life style change I will keep up it's stupid to even attempt. I have not mentioned a few things that people have mentioned either because I forgot about them, reading through the comments, I looked at them and they really aren't for me, or I simply can't do them within my environs.
Everyone that has said "you're not ready" that is an asinine statement to make about someone you don't know and it goes against what you are saying. Do you really think that saying "You're not ready" is going to help a situation that you think is a mental thing? <sentence was deleted to be nice>.
and lastly, thank for everyone that gave advice.
The questions were...
Suggestions on exercises that wouldn't hurt my back
And
Whet's your opinion on 1 vs 3/6 meals
Both of these have been answered along with extra information that will be helpful. -
Quote:It's semi personal and would go into a long rant and such about things people might know, and ways I act due to the conditions of the environs I have limited control over. I have no problem divulging, but don't feel it's right to in this case. The deal seems to be that there is some unstated issue that is a mitigating problem with transportation, and i do not want you to feel that you have to give personal info here to us, its not our business, but the fact is, we can only give help with as much information as we have to work with. but my working notes on that issue are, must be local or in home.
Quote:glad to hear about the bike though, please try one out first, i dont want to waste your time on something that wont work, but if they dont exacerbate your back issues and can work keep us abreast of how things are going, did you look up the seated exercises? they arent a magic bullet, due to their low intensity but they may be able to fit in the currently stated issues that you have told us, and will at least give some measure of doable calorie expenditure. i have to stress that to my knowledge, none of us are professionals, so our help is not going to be as good as you could get with a nutritionist or professional personal trainer, please make sure that you exhaust all avenues of getting these assets, because they can do a lot more than we can.
The seated exercises I saw and i forgot about them as i was reading through the thread, found them and since i have to read through the site i don't have any answer as of yet...
the dumbbell exercises after quickly looking through them some i can't due to no place around here to sit like that ^.^ but most of them are doable so now I have to get up during the day and find the dumbbells...they should be buried under several boxes. -
Quote:I can't say anything about the guy personally, but every time I see any interview or decision he has made and reasons behind it he sounds like an idiot to me. He'd be a good PR guy though if he weren't overselling his product which makes him and his company look bad in the long run.I have always seen the antagonism that people read into jack's statements as people emotionally reading the words of someone who is not "one of us" he made good and bad decisions, so has posi, so will war witch, all three will also make unpopular good decisions and popular bad decisions. I have no malice for any of them, they made a game i play a lot, heck, jack has thus far made two games that i play, not a bad record for the guy. but i have had this discussion before with a poster who, humorously enough, later flipped and became a screeching fangirl for jacks new projects and a raging, spelling challenged harpy against coh..how times change, but as i said back then, i imagine that he still thinks about coh, you simply cant do something for this long without feeling some kind of attachment, no matter how much you move on.
Also I wish that the Devs on CoH would play and mess with people like I've heard people say Jack used to, make GMs spawn and kill people and such... That's part of a game idea I've had, make the main villain a player of sorts that actually interacts... Imagine a Lord Recluse player that could run around Paragon City and spawn arachnos Soldiers or an archnos GM? That would be epic... -
Quote:The problem with what you are saying is that is two-fold./salute Mr. Woods.
I condsider myself a pessamist and have a rather low view of humanity, but seriously....let people take comfort in whatever way they can. Why do we have to sit here and "logically" debate whether the act was truely heroic or not? It eases the pain a bit for Mr. Woods' wife, and family, and that's what matters.
Cops, firefighters, paramedics, and soldiers aren't heroes either, right? They're just doing those jobs to get paid, get a "free ride" through college, or personal glory. Nah, it has nothing to do with saving lives, improving life in their community or defending their country.
Give me a break....
When you use words like hero with so many people it minimizes it's meaning and dishonors people who are actually heroes.
As to your point about cops, firefighters, paramedics, and soldiers being heroes or not... No they are not, by default, heroes. To me a hero is someone selflessly sacrificing one's self for the betterment of others intelligently. Ie. suicide missions do not make you a hero (if there is no possibility of your own survival you are just a noble idiot). Saving yourself or your family does not make you a hero (because that is instinct, and is actually not selfless). Doing your job does not make you a hero. Those jobs you mentioned place a value on their life and are willing to do those jobs for those prices and benefits that those jobs offer.
Claiming someone who did what most of us would have done naturally as that is your natural reaction, to swerve when someone drives at you, is a hero is disrespectful to people who are or were heroes and did do heroic things.
That is not to say that the guy isn't worth remembering in a good light or speaking about in a good light. It is to say, do not dishonestly praise someone for something they are not. And to say this is speaking disrespectfully of the dead. That is simply false. It is a slight against those who would dishonor the person by trying to make him better than he was which implies he wasn't a good guy to begin with. -
Chase_Arcanum,
Your argument is flawed at it's core. While other developers and such have INPUT it is ultimately the the Lead's decision as to whether something goes in or not. It does not matter that this person or that person came up with the idea because the point of the lead designer is mainly to know when that idea is bad or good or works or doesn't work. And as that is the case the Lead ALWAYS takes the blame as they should.
This is the same in just about ever team effort and there is an understanding in sports that the Team wins and the Coach loses. This is because it's the coach's job to direct and guide the team into winning while the team itself can only do the best they can do individually. If someone on the team is tired and can't pitch anymore it's the coach's job to tell them to step down. If you need to call in the special whatever in football it's the coach's decision and while a player may make an error it's the coach's job to ensure that that has a very low likelyhood of happening. -
Father_Xmas,
You pretty much said what I was thinking... but I tried to be nice about it and hoped that people wouldn't ask what i mean by being dishonest and also not post what I was thinking.
It's even somewhat more natural to swerve the way he did than it is to swerve another way. The best possible thing he could have done is braked and reversed or continued on faster if the crash happened too fast for the first both of which would have had higher chances of survival for all in his car.
So we are left with 3 conclusion...
He knew what to do and froze
He didn't know what to do and did whats natural
He knew what to do and didn't do it purposefully
So >.> I'd rather just say hey sucks that people died. -
Ok let's see if I can answer these
whichever person posted that post with yellow topic parts, didn't catch the name, thank you. That will be most helpful along with who posted groceries express.
2 issues were brought up about what I've been saying.
#1. About "wanting" to lose weight. Quite frankly I could care less about losing the weight itself. I don't "want" to lose weight. I want to prevent myself from dying and get healthier than I am now. I mean I could just fast for a week, eat something, fast again, or become bulimic if my goal was just to lose weight.
#2. When I give a reason as to why I can't do something, such as, I probably can't to the pool, is not an excuse. I am a realist. As pointed out there is no point doing something if it is not a life style change to some degree as it will either not do anything, cause damage, or whatever i do work out for that short period will just come back and because of that if I know something isn't going to happen because of some other factor I have to realize that even though it would be best to do that it can't happen so I shouldn't focus on it, letting me focus on something i can change. Mainly these problems that seem to be just excuses come from transportation, transportation issues arise from a personal issue that I'm not going to talk about. Let's just say there is no guarantee i could get to a place or get back with any regularity. I nearly failed 9th grade because of this problem and it still persists to this day so >.>
I am looking into the recumbent bike thing, and thinking about where i could put it/use it. A work out bench, while I could get one, cost wise, there is nohere in the house that I could place it that i could use it.
The reason I said that about my diet in my first post was because again I have to deal with trying to get the food as well as a place to put it. So I more or less just go with the easiest thing to do to not have to deal with that stress.
The reason for my rotating sleep schedule is 1 of 2 things or both. When I was younger to deal with **** I switched to a night schedule so I didn't have to deal with it. Night is nice and quiet, cool, and relaxing and I would not wake during the day if i had the choice, but to get work or take classes or deal with others i have to be awake during the day. So I'm hardwired to sleep during the day at this point and I constantly move back towards that paradigm. The other explanation which it could be is that I'm one of the few people that operate on a longer day cycle so because I'm operation on say a 36 hour cycle my body wants to stay up 28 hours and sleep 8... all of the above doesn't really work in modern society.
As a cane/walker whatever tried, doesn't help.
As far as seeing a doctor/chiropractor about it. I've had x-rays taken and such and that's how i know what is happening. I also used to go to a chiropractor and it helped for maybe several days after i went, but there were problems with transportation again, and ultimately i think it did more harm than good, but i'm not sure. I did fall in the shower last year and came down hard on my *** and my back felt better for a week or so...and then i tried to work out/help some people and then it went right back to normal so even if it were to make it feel better temporarily I don't think it would work if i took up some sort of work out schedule and I think the weightloss itself would do much better than a chiropractor. -
QuiJon,
I know what it sounds like. I have to go through this kind of crap with just about everything and it's mainly due a running theme throughout your post. If you think about it, you'll realize where most of my problem comes from.
I am not making up reasons for not doing this or that. I am trying to come up with something that is feasible for me to do within the constraints that that major problem has generated.
I hardly see the point of doing something that won't remain constant, as pointed out if it's not a life style change to a certain degree then the effort will likely be a waste and the way my life is it is far more likely that for example, I can't make it to the pool as I would like to, not cuz of myself, but other problems. As far as a bus... from what I know, the nearest bus stop is nearly 4 miles away... which sorta defeats the point.
Also... I live "near" detroit now. I used to live in detroit. Buses in detroit are easy to get to, but slow, but not so much so a few miles outside of detroit in the metro-detroit area or whatever it's called. -
Quote:I eat an amazing amount of carbs. If I knew how to cook things other than pasta I would. I know how to cook chicken, but only one type of chicken and that get's boring after a while. And If I could find a place that sells good fruits and veggies within the distance i can get to. I would probably only eat fruits and veggies for the most part, but i don't have the ability to get to the places nor the knowledge of how much of that type of stuff i should be getting. I tried looking for a nutritionist around here but found that none i could locate via the net had credentials i could check out as I don't want to deal with woowoo idiots >.>Drop Sugars/Carbs from your diet. I'm not saying don't eat bread, but try to avoid it, and ALWAYS get the highest fiber type of bread you can find. 9 grain bread, stuff like that. Never, ever buy white/potato bread. Avoid potato products, and pastas. The less fiber in a carb, the faster it converts into sugar, and the faster it digests, leaving you hungrier faster. Eating high fiber foods, like vegetables, and you will feel less hungry. Lean meats, like Poultry and fish(NOT DEEP FRIED!) are also excellent for dieters, as your body processes proteins much slower, leaving you feeling full for longer. Nuts, preferably ones that are unsalted, are also great, high in protein. I live in Oregon, so I often snack on unsalted Hazelnuts.
Avoid unnecessary salt, since if you are overweight, chances are that means your blood pressure is also much higher then normal, and salt makes this worse. Processed foods are notorious for being *massive* in salt, so cut those out.
Now you mentioned blood pressure so I have to assume that like others you probably think I'm in terrible health. If I were, that would bother me. As of the last time i got full physical and blood work up I'm in perfect health save for triglycerides, one other prob, and the injuries i have. The triglycerides would go down if i could stop eating carbs and the other prob is either genetic and can't be helped or will go away if i lose weight I'd hope it does, but it's not a sure bet and it's not a blood related thing such as cholesterol or something of that nature
Quote:ok, pool is good, hadnt thought of that, its an indoor setup right? because you need a all year situation to deal with your issues. as for bikes, have you tried a recumbent bike? they are in a nearly prone position, so that might work better with your back. i say this both in the transport and exercise situation. i'm 6'2 so i'm close to your height, and the one at the gym i go to fits ok(though i find cardio too boring to maintain a serious regimen in, its weights or bust for me.), maybe thats an option.
I find exercising boring in general, but if it something i can do while doing something else, like that recumbent bike while watching tv i'd just do it until i get too tired to do it or have to get up. If I could I would stay in a pool pretty much all day every day even without anything else to do. I've always loved the water... it's just so hard for me to get to someplace to swim due to "other" problems.
Quote:I also agree on the walking laps in the pool, or even if you do the hang-on-the-edge-and-kick-your-legs thing for a while (or else drape your arms on the edge of the pool like the back of a couch and bicycle-pedal). The buoyancy of the water takes some of the strain off your joints and muscles.
That you drink milk and water is a help - however, if you drink whole milk, I'd recommend dropping to 1-2%.
Barring medical supervision, at MOST you want to lose 1-2 lbs a week (AT MOST). At first you may lose more, mostly because it's water weight or detox. Do not try and do more than that - it can be a horrible shock to your body.
One thing I'd like to suggest from when I was on my doctor-monitored diet - if I was absolutely craving food between meals, she had me drink a cup of chicken bouillion. A little salt and flavor to feel like I'd gotten something into my system. I kept a jar of bouillion cubes in my cubby at work, and would go nuke water in the microwave, toss one in, let it dissolve, and slowly sip it for a few minutes. Food cravings were usually lessened and I could make it until lunch. I'd usually also have a glass of ice water right afterward.
Oh yeah, one other thing - in addition to tracking your weight, measure yourself. You might not see pounds come off, but when your waistline or neck size drops, you will be reassured that the weight is coming off.
I drink 2% milk, sometime vitD whole milk, but mainly 2%.
I wouldn't want to lose more than 1-2 lbs a week. I'd just like to lose the weight is all and really my goal is before my heart explodes ^.^ so as long as that doesn't happen I still have plenty of time.
Due to the triglycerides I really don't have the option of doing that, because they mess with your hunger... I only feel starved or stuffed and pretty much nothing in between. Plus I tend to just ignore pain, hunger, etc for the most part. It's more of an intellectual exercise for me to say I need to eat now or I'm going to be starving later and go waaaaay overboard.
Never though about doing the tape measure way ^.^
btw another thing that plays into my eating habits is I have a rotating sleep schedule so, like right now, it 4am and I've been up 12 hours roughly I should probably be eating dinner, but I can't really do anything because it's the middle of the night and everyone i live with is asleep right now... we have thin walls and no door between where one person sleep and the kitchen so yeah... that forces me to either eat in the morning or before they sleep...or be rude and wake them up, and they are someone that needs their sleep.
This part of the problem of getting help is that i have all these weird limits and restrictions that if they were removed i would likely not have as big a problem as i do have. -
Quote:Who has their computer on. I'm a technopath and am accessing the web via a T-1 cable directly without a computer >.>You need to make the conscious decision to override your prelearned notions about food. If you have leftovers and you start to eat them then and there, you need to make the conscious recognization of what you are doing and stop.
An awful waste of energy? Two minutes in a microwave is more than sufficient to reheat pre-cooked leftovers. You probably use more energy having your computer on than you'll spend reheating stuff.
Quote:You went to public school as a child, yes? Well part of the quick eating, IMO, stems from that (I know I do it). You are given an, in some cases extremely, limited amount of time in which to finish eating. That carries over into adulthood as a learned action when confronted with meals. It is also a result of the "lunch hour" (or half-hour in some cases) mentality when working.
Look at those societies that take the time to enjoy the meal with the company around them. Taking more time to eat the meal means that overall you'll eat less since there's more time for your brain to recognize you are full.
I think the only way i can fix this is if I were to eat x amount of portion and then time myself so i don't take another bite for whatever amount of time...which kinda sucks cuz you know i'd rather enjoy my meal than concentrating on a timer ya know?
Quote:4000 calories? That's insane. For frame of reference, it is estimated that Michael Phelps ate around 6000 calories a day for training in swimming. -
Quote:I went to a rehab place a while ago for my knee, but I stopped going largely because of the people weren't listening tho what i was saying. They were having me do weight lifting a bit, a balance thing, and the bike thing, the lifting did no good because they made me put it at such a low weight/rep that it had no impact what so ever. The balance issues i had was more to do with not knowing that my pelvis was messing with my weight distribution and the bike if i remember right was not as big a problem as walking, but not enough to really do me any good exercise wise before i couldn't do it... since then the back issue has grown so i'm not sure whether it'd be worth it.ok, yeah that is a number of issues, that really makes it very difficult to go anywhere with this, at elast not with me being relatively unfamiliar with your local situation, which i'd be unlikely to be helpfully aware of in this set-up. but yeah, you really are in a situation that i cant be of much help with.
Are there any local charities you can turn to for help? if you are around the same size you were last time, things are going to be difficult, and given the limitations you have mentioned, im really drawing a blank for options. at the very least have you seen wether a exercise bike is in your budget? look in the local paper, people often get them with the best intentions, but then sell them after giving up, might be able to get a deal there. garage sales also might work. given your description of your issue, im a little worried about your pelvis having an issue with the seat, as well as the leg length issue . best i can say is if you can secure transport and payment for one of them, try it first, to see if your issues translate to the bike as well.
The best i can think of is there is a pool somewhere around here that has a year long membership for $100... and I could bike over there if i could find one that i can ride... which height wise is always a problem. The world doesn't like tall or short people ^.^ -
Quote:Yes, I'm 6'4or5" I weigh around the 400lbs range. Calorie intake for a sedentary life style for someone of my height to weigh 200lbs it's 2300 calories. Apparently it's quite bad to cut out more than a thousand calories below your need for maintaining your current weight and to maintain my current weight I should be eating around 4000 calories. So I'm actually under eating by a lot by some accounts especially if you factor in that some charts and such say i should weigh around 240/260...Any advice I've ever read as far as a healthy diet goes tends to recommend spreading calories throughout the day. Some dietitians even say it's healthier to do 4-6 smaller meals over the course of the day rather than 3 big ones like most people do.
The thing is, your body doesn't just digest food on an as-needed basis. If you eat, the food gets digested. Any of the calories that aren't used for energy when the food is digested get stored as fat. Think of it like building a fire in the stove. You wouldn't just throw all the wood in at once and expect the fire to last all night.
Also, not sure where you're getting your numbers, but 1700-3000 calories is a huge range. For someone my height (5' 10"), that'd be the difference between me wanting to maintain a weight of 100lbs versus maintaining a weight of 300lbs.
Also my weight is a guess as i haven't come across a scale that can measure up to where i am as most stop at 300lbs. -
Quote:I wouldn't have mentioned those 4 things if I didn't think they were a problem.1) Learn to leave leftovers. Put them in the fridge for the next meal. The problem with cleaning your plate anymore is that the portion sizes are too stupidly big.
2) Learn to like cooking. Make a game out of it. Watch Good Eats on Food Network. That show turns the act of cooking into science. If you learn more about WHY something does what it does, you may be more apt to learn more.
3) That's one of your biggest problems. You need to take time and think about what you are eating. If you have the choice between an apple (provided you aren't allegeric) and a serving of cookies, which do you think is the better option?
4) Slow down. Like A LOT. No one is going to come up and take your food. And unless you are in the military, no one is going to make you go out on patrol or PT. The reason competitive eaters can eat so much is that they do it quick. It takes about 20 minutes or so, iirc, for your stomach to tell your brain that you are full and should quit eating. If you are eating quick, you aren't really tasting the food.
Eating only one meal a day will slow your metabolism to a crawl. Might as well have popsicles before bed.
Smaller meals at regular intervals is a better, IMO, way to go.
No offense, but honestly, your biggest problem is seemingly you. Saying you want to lose weight, an admirable goal, but not doing the things that you need to be doing isn't going to help you. No one starts off being able to run or walk 10 miles at a sitting. Start small and work your way up. This isn't going to be something that'll be done in a month. This will most likely take you years to accomplish.
Also, one of the biggest things you can do to start is to cut out any and all regular soda. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Empty sugar calories with no redeeming nutrients. This also includes "energy drinks". I lost a pretty quick 20lbs just from switching from regular Mt. Dew to diet (and don't give me that "metabolic syndrome" nonsense about the diet stuff). If the caffeine is what you need, switch to tea. I have about 15 more lbs to go (to get to about 165) before I'll finally feel comfortable with myself. I did manage to finally be able to wear L-size shirts as opposed to XL (just a couple weeks ago), and that was one of the best feelings I've had in a long time.
the problem with what you suggested is not that i don't know it's a problem but rather the problem loops in on itself.
I don't like cooking and i really don't have anything that is 1 meal only in my list of things my brain gets... So I'll make up a meal that could have left overs...but i don't want to cook again and left overs generally aren't as good as freshly cooked, so i eat it then. Makes sense to me. Reheating something 3 times in a day is an awful waste of energy (save energy for the environment trying to lose it for myself lol) So I just eat it all then. So those 3 problems are just tied together and it has to do with selection and my thinking and addressing them one at a time is not going to help.
As far as the fast eating is concerned. It's not a psychological thing. I talk while I eat and such and I'm not gobbling my food down or anything like that. I just eat amazingly fast and as of current I've yet to figure out how or why. All explanations and all methods of trying to eat slowly have thus far failed for me.
I eat sweats only when I have a craving for them and that is not very often so that's not a problem for me...nor is drinking pop or coffee or tea. Again I only drink pop when I want a taste of something different which is not very often either. I drink water and milk mainly... like 2-4 liters of water a day mostly and when i get a gallon of milk it lasts maybe a day or two so.
And yes, my biggest problem is likely me and or my environment... it's not conducive to good health or living for that matter, but to get out of it it requires me to achieve a few things that ends up looping in on each other. -
As far as my back problem goes, if it were just pain, I'd just push through, but it's not. As I mentioned it's because in 2003 I landed hard on my right knee and that shifted my pelvis so that it's on a slight diagonal now and that in turn pushed a vertebra in or out of alignment.
So what's happening is I'm off balance for one from the now slightly different lengths of my legs and when i walk it continuously moves that vertebra so that it grinds on the spinal cord. The further i walk the more i notice that i start to lose control of my placing and such of my legs as well as the ability to even lift them. It feels like there is some sort of lag, in game terms, that is happening and that is quite a trip when it's your own body doing it.
Depending on the length of time I walk determines the amount of time to recovery and after walking only a mile I am probably more winded and just plane drained than a 5 mile run. For that mile it takes well over an hour for my heart rate and breathing to return to normal even with any method of controlling such things... Also from what I can tell from less severe lengths of time it is accumulative, If i walk say a mile... if i go again after i return to base level no pain, heart and breathing is normal...I would probably be at that same level within 1/2 a mile and if i tried a third time after recovering it would only be a 1/4 mile.... at least that is what it is for less lengths of time things.
This really sucks because I have all the energy to do all that stuff (I would still be able to easily walk 4-5 miles a day as i did before this back injury), but because of this singular back problem i am limited to 10 mins at most with just about any sitting/standing that causes that vertebra to grind. -
rian,
As far as doctors go... I'm screwed. I have no health insurance right now. So >.>
Part of the problem with the gym idea is transportation and to discuss that I pretty much would have divulge info that I'd rather not so >.>
Larcen3 and Mr. DJ,
My eating habits stem from a few things...
#1 I hate leaving left overs that likely will never get eaten.
#2 I hate cooking... it's boring to me.
#3 I am not a food minded person. I don't quite know how to communicate what i mean by that... I know how much food i should be eating by the numbers, but just basing what i eat on numbers is not really a good idea. I like good food, but creating, preparing, and even figuring out what is the good food just doesn't really cross my mind and if it does it either at the wrong time or too late or i can't do anything about it.
#4 I eat really really really fast. I've tried slowing down but it's still really fast, even compared to fast eaters. It's not like i'm eating like a pig either. I just chew and such fast so when there is food i like i want more and because i'm not "full" i just keep eating.
As far as weights and such...i do have a some weight lifting stuff around but i don't know how to use it within the confines of where i'm at and limits of the equipment i have. If i remember right i have a barbell and 2 dumbells... and i think up to 20lbs weights, but i have no weight lifting gloves (i need those the rubber on the *bells messes with my skin), not much room to work with, and no lifting bench, or spotter so the only thing i can think to do with them is only use the dumbells to lift >.> -
So I need help with losing weight, still... and people keep telling me to walk. Well the problem with walking for me is that after a very short time period when I walk my vertebra start grinding my spinal cord which after a while I literally lose control of my legs the more I walk.
So I tested myself as to how long i could walk before start to feel back pain that leads to the thing I mentioned above. Well turns out... it's only 8-9 minutes. Every work out program I see says 10 minutes is pretty much the minimum to get yourself to a point where it'll make a difference.
From this test i can say that there is a tremendous amount of pain I feel, but I am in no way even remotely tired, worn out, or even beginning to raise my heart rate. So Obviously I don't want to hurt myself or risk furthering my back problems but I need to lose weight...so the thing I've thought about doing is walking x minutes, till the pain goes away, and then going again. The problem this is i don't know how much good it would do, obviously anything is better than nothing but during the 10 minutes it takes to recover to go out again I can't do anything and it seems like a waste of time to spend something like 2-3 hours a day to get to a distance that I would apparently start seeing some weight lose if I wouldn't see that weight lose and I would just be in pain for half the day and or wasting time i could be doing something else... I could just walk a mile straight and deal with the pain (i can do that), but I have no clue how much damage that would do to my spine and I have no way of finding out at the moment and i really don't want to risk being paralyzed from the waste down. so...any recommendations?
Also I've pretty much decided at the moment my eating habits probably aren't going to change. I eat one big meal a day...roughly 1700-3000 calories depending on what I'm eating that day. Which is more or less around the calorie count i need to be at my ideal weight.
So I'm wondering what are your opinions on the single meal with intermittent fasts thing that I've heard about (make sense considering how we evolved) vs eating 3-6 meals a day, because for me fasting and such is a lot easier than eating 3 meals a day. -
>.> Sucks that people died. Whenever anyone dies I don't like it, but without knowing more of the details I'm not going to say the guys a hero or made the best decision or that he did it to save his family.
One can only hope that was what he did and remember someone in the best light, even when it's not exactly honest to do so. -
Every x-man power is supposed to be controllable from what I know... just a number have never figured out how... like Rogue (for a time in one form she did) and Cyclops.
