Another must with Mercs is to pair them with a secondary that is good at debuffing resistance. I personally like freezing rain from the storm set (and, since most of the merc damage is range, they don't suffer that much when stuff is thrown around).
One thing I really don't like is that my top dog Commando is such a wimp. He can't really go toe to toe with many mobs (even a Lt) without me there as backup to heal him. My Spec Ops, though, for some reason, can tank better better than the Commando. Perhaps a combination of the little bit of DEF from their auto stealth and the fact that there's 2 of them beating on the NPC (if I command the spec ops to attack). Considering how bad-azz the Assault Bot is, the Commando is a real let down.
Anyways, the devs are probably not going to change Mercs besides the Achilles' Heel resist debuff. It kinds sucks that proc is pretty much a requirement. With out it, I find their kill-ability really "meh" compared to the other MM's.

Oh, ok. Thanks for the info. Good thing I asked her first.

Hi,
I'm doing the Me, Myself, and My Other Selves flashback, and I'm supposed to be level 29, but I noticed that I have my lvl 32 upgrade power on my mastermind. My combat level shows 29 in the UI, my big bot is lvl 29. /whoall shows combat lvl 29. The character I'm doing this on is a lvl 50 Bots/TA villain through the flashback system.
I tried searching on the forum, didn't find anything. Anybody else notice this?
Thanks,

Quote:I find I use my ice/dev as my "I feel safe and controllery" blaster. My ice/dev/force is at 45. I have a stealth IO in run, which stacks with cloak. I have both holds. I have PFF from force if I'm running outside in a hazard zone. I mostly solo. I use trip mine and gun drone every now and then. I usually have cloak and targeting running at all times through a mission. On the double XP weekend I teamed a lot, but I didn't feel like I added much damage, however.I know that dev is not used often as it seems to be the type of power that takes time to develop. It also seems to be used less in regular battle than other secondaries which is why I am betting it is not used as often. I am curious if it really is useless or fun? I watched a video on youtube of an ar/dev who teleported mobs into his trip mine which looked fun. Anyway, I am not entirely sold on dev just yet and would swap it for /em if it would work better on teams/solo. Thoughts?
I took /dev because I found I liked having stealth, and I like it better than pool power stealth, and for the extra to-hit. I like hover-blasting, hardly ever melee (usually only in melee range when I stealth+trip mine @ point-blank), so most of the other secondaries I would skip any melee powers if possible. I find it fun to have a choice of stealthing through missions or taking out all/some mobs if it's not required. As they say, YMMV.

This should be a port of Corruptor's thermal, right? It looks pretty good in the end-game. I can't decipher the redtomax values for -recov and -regen, but if they are any good, it looks like it might become the next FOTMavKILLAH.
I wonder what they'll replace the rez with?

Also giving credence to just tinting: Necro is the only set without any power customization. The other 4 you can customize your weapons.
So, if you can colour your blasts (if you actually take them), what colour would you make them? White might look interesting. Otherwise the current colour is fine with me.

The server status is saying they are, but I still can't connect. is it just me?

Take a look at the date at the bottom: Updated: 2009-06-24 13:05:02 UTC
There's something wrong with the server status page where sometimes it shows the status as it was at that time (ie. all up) and sometimes if you refresh (or shift+refresh) it'll show you the correct time/date and the correct status.

Great info here. I just started an ice/dev.
As for caltrops, I find it a bit more useful to get mobs to bunch up a bit (if I drop it in between) for use with frost breath.
A couple things I like about /dev is that there's only one power that forces you to go to melee (the others have melee attacks that hit hard and almost required). Also, it comes with a stealth power, which doesn't have a movement penalty (I'm starting to like having stealth on my characters).
Thanks guys for your info and builds.

Ya, but it's a 20% debuff, and it does proc a lot on Mercs soldiers, so it's sweet.

- edit to add....doh, I'm off topic. Um, basically on Thugs it's only the Enforcers and there's only a few attacks for them. It'll proc, but not as often. -
Just to be picky, Acid Arrow doesn't seem to have a 25 foot radius. Mid's Heroplanner says 8 feet and that looks more like it. The "acid splash" animation sure does make it look bigger, though.
Question about it: Do the debuffs have a to-hit check or is that just for the DoT? I was just wondering about it being acc slot-able. I'm pretty sure I saw it start ticking above one mob and above another say "miss".
Oh, and, thanks for the guide! Good idea doing it this way, independent of primary, since there aren't too may TA guides.
