My only comment regarding how bizarre this idea is...

Did anyone ever see the Freedom Phlanx running around in SG mode?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hypocrisy is the prerogative of leaders.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
So what about loner heroes? Heores that aren't "joiners" even though they may play with other people often?

    [/ QUOTE ]

In other words, did the JLA pay for the Bat Cave?

  3. I'd just like to know why there are giant monster badges awarded on the "let's make heroes hate each other and refuse to cooperate" principle. Which developer was stupid enough to do that and has it been fired, yet?
  4. [ QUOTE ]

A SG that plays together reguarly, but uses their individual uniforms, will get NO prestige.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, that's SO INCREDIBLY TRUE TO THE COMIC BOOKS!!!

Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, all of them ALWAYS CHANGE THEIR COSTUMES COMPLETELY when they are active in the JLA!!!!

And Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, etc. NEVER WEAR THEIR NORMAL COSTUMES when active in the Avengers!!!

ALL SUPERGROUPS IN COMIC BOOKS ALWAYS IMPOSE COSTUME CHANGES!!!

YUP! That's EXACTLY how it's done in the comics.

  5. The Trick Arrow power set was overpowered originally, but things have now gone far too far the other direction. Durations are too short compared to recharge times. The developers need to strike a happy medium and stop swinging between extremes.
  6. [ QUOTE ]

This was one of the hardest sets to define. It falls out of line with the "normal" Defender sets. It isn't a buff set, its a debuff set. Its really a different playstyle than Defenders have had before.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Absolutely. I have been playing it as my "set 'em up" set. Then I use Archery to "knock 'em down". It turns a Defender into a Controller who can easily solo at low levels.

    [ QUOTE ]
Compare the set with rad and see it is pretty clear to adept players what works best in teams.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Absolutely, it's a soloer's set--or a set for teams that don't care if someone is neither fish nor fowl.
  7. [ QUOTE ]

    2) I never stated the furies were male, I stated they were asexual or sexless. That it wasn't until a later time when the female spirit inside of that beast came out.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now, was this part of the "original" version of these beings or was it a lator revalorization? What is your source for your conclusion? Note that by "later" I do not mean "added by Christians". Contrary to your claims, myths DID change LONG BEFORE Christianity came onto the scene. Look at the evolution of Egyptian thought over the millenia.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
I'm in the, 'Recluse-doesn't-hate-States-because-of-the-god -inside-of-him' camp. Oh course this could mean he'd end up being the incarnate of Hades.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Please to explaining the "of course"?

    [ QUOTE ]
Also, Marcus Cole (Statesman) went East back in 1918 and returned in 1931 all alone. No Stefan Ritcher, no Monicia Ritcher and became a hero. Does this strike anyone as a bit odd.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Odd as in a "he dumped them to die on a mountaintop and pretend he never did anything wrong" kind of odd?

"We gonna die like English Patient's girlfriend--long, agonizing, boring death!"
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Hmmm, we could pick Stefan apart as well while we're at it. Historically, the kings of Poland used that name a lot (well, Stepan if I transcribed that properly).

    [/ QUOTE ]

In addition, Slavic and Magyar lands that traditionally attached to the Habsburg Imperial dynasty did so through the "Crown of St. Stephen".
  10. [ QUOTE ]

Uranus not heaven the dudes name was Uranus

    [/ QUOTE ]

"Ouranos" is an ancient Greek word that means "Heaven" or "heavens".

    [ QUOTE ]
And no one likes Norse mythology they where vikings, vikings!!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I seem to recognize English words, but the sentence as a whole is incomprehensible.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
No, I think that charging it as the Well of the Furies pretty much denies all but Greek mythology. It being guarded by a Gorgon only further cements the idea that the well is Greek in mythos, and not an omni-mythological source of power. At least, probably not.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah, dear fellow, now here's the neat thing that a professionally-trained mythographer (anyone know of a professionally-trained mythographer who also does game design--Joe, John, Jack--Jack somethingorother, right?) might do if it amuses him. The Indo-European stratum makes up a great deal of the source material of Greek mythology. Now, one magico-mythical interpretation of variation among Indo-European cultures' mythologies is that an eidos, or its functional equivalent, is given specific expression within each culture. This "Campbellianist" interpretation would say that the Well of the Furies is the Urth's Well is Brigid's Cauldron, etc. However, steeped as they might have been in a bias towards Classicism, Statesman and Recluse "discovered" a specifically Greco-Roman "emanation" of the root eidos

Of course, that's the Campbellian interpretation, it's not the only possible way of looking at myth.

    [ QUOTE ]
I reckon Statesman slept with his sister.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thats along the lines of what I was thinking..Statesman slept, lived, and dated recluses sister.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And then he dumped her due to the World War.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
wait so.... if statesman is the modern day Zeus, then is recluse Hades?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Can SOMEONE please explain to me this knee-jerk "Recluse is Hades" response? Please, can SOMEONE point out where in the mythological source material Hades is depicted as the implacable foe of Zeus? What is that source of this gross error?

    [ QUOTE ]
id find it hard to belive that a "good" god would power recluse

    [/ QUOTE ]

Zeus was a murderer and a rapist.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Why was it decided to make it a defender primary/controller secondary in the first place?

    [/ QUOTE ]

To fit into the conventional braindead pattern, of course. It would make far more sense as a blaster secondary, but that would mean that there would be TWO non-blapper blaster secondaries, that that could NOT be permitted.

    [ QUOTE ]
Defenders already had the greatest choice in powersets of all AT's and the other 7 (6 for 'troller secondaries) actually defend your team in some way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Had you noticed that statesman is very much prejudiced in favor of defenders? Which archetype gets the least nerfing? Defenders. They have some kind of protected status--daddy's little darling doesn't get held to the same standards everyone else must meet.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
I think everyone other than PBs and WSs has to go to do the early Hollows missions, which means starting in Atlas is less travel time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The Hollows missions are not mandatory. You can just about skip the Hollows, completely. The only thing that is hard to avoid is talking to Wincott at the Hollows entrance.

  16. My glory-hound and cornball characters start in Atlas Park. Heroes with a more serious background start in Galaxy City.

    Atlas Park: 1970s DC Comics
    Galaxy City: ABC Comics
  17. [ QUOTE ]
When I first started the game, I was given a choice to talk to some guy named "Back Alley Brawler" or one "Ms. Liberty."

I thought, "which one would I rather look at?"

    [/ QUOTE ]

The hardcore fighter, not the glory girl.
  18. [ QUOTE ]

I wonder if the badges are returning too....

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would rather see new badges on the same theme. No, I have none of the old Hallowe'en badges. I'd just like to see event badges kept unique.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
    Tuatha

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Too-ah-thah

    [/ QUOTE ]

In this case, not correct. The "th" represents a sound that in English would usually be represented by "h".

Gailge spelling IS mostly regular and phonetic. It just uses completely different rules than does English.

This is why "Gailge" is pronounced something like "gwa-lyi-guh", and if you're familiar with the spelling rules, it's perfectly regular.

However, there is one very common irregularity. The letter "d" can be used for sounds that English represents with "d" or with "g". Thus, "Dia duit" is pronounced something like "Gia geetch".
  20. [ QUOTE ]
It will also introduce an upcoming gameplay feature.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Shoulder kitties for male characters?

    SKEETER! I miss yah!
  21. [ QUOTE ]
What percent Kheldian? Extradimensional? Demonic? Robot? Elvish? Shoulder Kitten?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Half Russian half Pixie?
  22. [ QUOTE ]

How many of the 3 Stooges were Cherokees? I am Cherokee so should I not enjoy classic humor and entertainment because none of them were?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Exactly. We must adhere to and appreciate only they who Are Like Us. We must not ever be entertained by they who Are Not Like Us.

    [ QUOTE ]
I watch and thoroughly enjoy Westerns (even tho' they villify my ancestors) because they are a slice of life from a bygone simple time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Didn't your ancestors come from south of the Great Smokies and east of the Mississippi?
  23. [ QUOTE ]
    1) Stand with feet shoulder width apart
    2) Grasp reality firmly with both hands
    3) Twist sharply.

How do the rest of you come up with creative stuff?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Come up with? I have to beat it off with sticks, knives, bombs, and random passing small animals just to actually do anything pragmatic. My problem is that I have so many ideas and inspirations that it's very difficult to see any of them through before getting distracted.

Heck, you can fill an entire server's allotment with characters based on the aesthetic and philosophical associations with the various modes of western music, one character for each mode.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Dogface tries to reveal Cronniss_S' implication that MMORPG players (therefore everyone on the forum) are an undifferentiated part of the masses. By this revelation, Dogface implies that Cronniss_S is not just insulting Dogface by saying he's not unique and special

    [/ QUOTE ]

Really? Quote SPECIFICALLY wherein I revealed such complete ignorance of history of religions and of ethical philosophy as attributed to "the masses".
  25. [ QUOTE ]
That said, I think the argument was not made for or against ethics. I believe the point was that while yes, Zeus in particular often acted unethically -I'd call him a spoiled brat-

    [/ QUOTE ]

At least some Greeks gave their gods a "get out of moral responsibility, free" card. Morals were for mortals. Schools like Stoicism were, in part, reactions against this sort of moral philosophy. While they did not posit a supernatural absolute good or evil, they did posit an absolute good but begged the question on absolute evil.

    [ QUOTE ]
While we could probably attribute the labels of good and evil to this dilemma, we will very probably have to admit that there are good arguments made for either case.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is why Antigone is a tragedy, after all.
