That reminds me of the PARANOIA RPG, where there was a 2' tall robotic bomb that walked around on spindly legs yelling "I'm a bomb!", "I'm a bomb!" and clutching at people's knees before detonating.

  2. Rikti Mothership Raid Update: 12-04-2010

    Hi, Folks --

Lured by the promise of a large number of Incarnate Shards and Gra'i Matter...

Brought back to Paragon City by Issue 19 and all the wonder that it brings...

This Saturday's Raids were unprecedented in terms of attendance!

So many persons showed up, that not two but THREE RWZs were spawned!

The flower of Guardian's mightiest heroes were present this day!

What a gladsome sight indeed it was to see so many of our finest in action!

Needless to say, with the maximum possible number of heroes present...

The Rikti were annihilated, time and time again!

Shards and Vanguard Merits flowed like water!

The next 2 Back-to-Back Raids are on 12-11-10, at 5 PM Pacific (8 PM Eastern)!

Announcements will be made to the usual Channels (Guardian, Level 50, etc), of course.

  3. Upcoming Rikti Mothership Raid: 12-04-2010

    Hi, Folks --

Aside from the large number of Incarnate Shards that Mothership Raids bring --

Vanguard Merits can be used to buy Gra'i Matter once every 18 hours!

So there's even MORE reason to show up this coming Saturday!

Come to the Rikti War Zone for 2 Back-to-Back Raids at 5 PM Pacific (8 PM Eastern)!

Announcements will be made to the usual Channels (Guardian, Level 50, etc), of course.

Does anyone remember those neat stick-to-the-wall laser-tripwire bombs that they had in Duke Nukem and QUAKE? Wouldn't something like that be nice?

Here someone even managed to Mod it into DOOM:

  5. Congratulations on getting into the Top-100 and even moreso, in reaching the Top-50! Getting into the Top-100 is a milestone for any SG.

It sets you head and shoulders above the countless sea of other SGs, and places you squarely upon the path of greatness, which many aspire to -- but few indeed can walk.

I look forward to seeing the Freedom Legion climb steadily in the ranks each day --

To eventually be welcomed with honor and glory into the exalted ranks of the Top-20, Top-10 and Top-5 SGs on Guardian!

Hail, Freedom Legionnaires! Way to go!

  6. *crosses herself and looks about with no small sense of alarm before taking you by the arm*

"It is expressly forbidden to even allude to the existence of such things and persons." she whispers.

"They do not exist. Surely, good friend, they are but wild figments of your imagination."

"T'were best to quickly recant such words, lest such heresy be the cause of your undoing."

She peers up at you with uncertain eyes, and continues in a trembling voice.

"Only suffering awaits those who would say otherwise." she softly murmurs.

*slipping away, she gathers her shawl more closely about her, and soon vanishes in the snow*

  8. I'm actually quite happy to see a break out of the annoying trend of "faster", "easier" that CoX has fallen into since Issue 12. If it takes years to reach that final goal, and those years are as full of good friends, warm camaraderie, fun and laughter as the last five have been for me, I think that you can count me in to the Omega Slot and beyond!

  9. I have plenty of Channels free, although I have to admit, maybe Guardian or Level 50 would be a better choice for announcements, just because you'll be hitting a lot more people than any dedicated channel would -- even though I know generally, people often get things wrong even with the most careful and alliterative explanations being made and put out there in the announcement.

    Maybe something like the following?

Apex Task Force forming. WARNING: You MUST have a Tier-1 or HIGHER Alpha Boost SLOTTED in your Incarnate Alpha Slot to participate. NOT an EMPTY slot. When replying, tell me what Boost you have slotted.

Then, of course, you would need to double-check each person's Powers list on their Info once they showed up, to make sure.

But asking them to tell you which boost they have slotted in their response will help weed out the ones who didn't read past "Apex Task Force Forming"...

  10. Happy Birthday!

    With lots of Chocolate!

    Nom nom nom!

  11. Which means the path to reaching the Omega slot will be quite long indeed!

    Hi, Folks --

The regularly-scheduled back-to-back Rikti Raids resume this coming Saturday!

    I know mine will be!

  18. Hello, Ashy. Welcome to the City!

It may simply be that the connection that was established by the updater is slow. You may get much better speed by stopping the download, and resuming it. The updater will form a new connection, which may be much faster.

It should be able to download at the full speed of your connection. If you're not getting it -- or almost it -- just try stopping it and the running the updater again.

    Ugh

You may also want to go to the Windows Update site (if you are running Windows) and download all of the security patches, hotfixes and updates available for your computer. If you've never done it, this process will involve you downloading a lot, doing several restarts and going back to the site again and again until you have them all and Windows Update sees no further updates available for your computer.

The problem with web sites and browsers in general is that they provide a route for ActiveX and other exploit scripts to run that can bypass or disable many counter-intrusion programs. Also, bear in mind that AVG and other applications depend on "signatures" which are only derived after something new has been found -- thus there is always a window of opportunity in which something new comes out, before it is detected, for it to infect your machine. Until a signature is extracted from it and that signature spread out to all the various anti-virus / anti-spyware / etc packages via updates, everyone is at risk.

One way to keep your system safe even against these new and unknown threats is to increase the Security Level in your browser to "High" or "Paranoid". This will restrict them from accepting unsigned cookies, running scripts and doing other things are are generally access routes for things you don't want getting into your computer. While it can often make your browsing experience a little bumpier, this precaution can often prevent access even by new exploits before patches are released or signatures derived to protect users from them.

It was bad enough that you would have to spend half your possible enhancement slots on Endurance Mod IOs in order to maybe get enough of a constant END boost to make this all work, where you're already going to be fighting at a major disadvantage, since Electrical Blast is one of the (if not the) slowest cycling Blaster powers in the game.

But to hear that the END return is only a % chance -- on TOP of that -- makes it all the more unappetizing. If it's only a % chance of getting any END, then that END reward should have been higher, especially given the slow base rate of attack that Electrical Blasters have. Well, IMHO, that is.

Well, that's awfully sad. Even the "Chance for +END" IO gives you 10 END.

I have it slotted in Stamina, and so it gives me 10 END every few seconds.

Does slotting Elec Blast powers with Endurance Mod IO's increase the End return?

I tried that on my "Secondary Build", but I didn't notice any difference.

You said it, Jack! So many great people come to mind from the last 5 years I've been on Guardian, and it's sad to think of how many have left; either for other servers, or from CoX completely.

How could we compare those who left? Or those who remain? Who wouldn't be biased, and who could know more than a fraction of what any of those heroes had done, been and said online?

On the Forums, we could actually do it, though! Everything anyone's said or done is here for all to see! But only a great Forumite that had been everywhere and read everything, like maybe Lighthouse, could really pick and choose across all the Forums. It would be hard enough for us just to figure out the Top 7 of all time here on Guardian!
