And I don't care if they are armed or not, but those War Walls around Boomtown better stay up as long as those Praetorians are in there.
Which is why the War Walkers and Clockwork are doing construction. They've been disarmed, at least in so far as you can disarm something that big. But I like the idea that it's not some concentration camp or containment camp or a bleak refugee colony, but really they revitalize that part of the city, moving in and making it vibrant and prosperous.

I want homes and buildings, not tents in the ruins.

Not a bad use for Boomtown, actually. Becomes the Praetorian Quarter of the city, with the Praetorian refugees taking it over and using their technology and remaining Clockwork and whatever Powers Division personel they have left to both drive out the groups lurking there and rebuild the zone.

Now how's that for an image: a War Walker repurposed as a construction rig.

I imagine also that Praetor Duncan, penultimate survivor that she is, will feature in this.
  4. I have a question about this, and forgive me if this one has been answered already. I'm not really a math type. I do builds, and I like IOing and all that, but I don't really push the edge a lot, so I'll need this explained to me in a way I understand.

    Here's my question:

How will these changes effect the Performance Shifter +END proc when slotted in Stamina (or Quick Recovery or whatever)? Will it fire more often/less often/not really change anything?

Same here. "After downtime" doesn't tell us much. Will it be an all day thing? Will it start at a certain time? When? We like to know in advance so we can be online, and preferably in advance before Tuesday morning.
  6. Y'know, I always figured Nemesis of all people would've converted over to metric years ago.

I wouldn't mind that if they're using a variant of the Rikti invasion code, instead of teleporting in, Nemesis Mole Machines burrow out of the ground and unload troops.

Heck, wouldn't mind more Mole Machines in general.

Also makes me wonder if they're beefing up the selection of troops available to Nemesis, since there's just troopers, jaegers, Warhulks, Fake Nemesis, and automatons. Unless he's going to bring The Nemesis Pony!
  8. Great, now I need to figure out who to bring to this: Crow Call, the pulp adventurer whose namesake was killed by Nemesis in the 1945 coup attempt or Nemesister, a heroic Nemesis automaton from an alternate dimension where the automatons built their own civilization?

    Decisions, decisions.
  9. Neat! So how will this all work with timing, for those of us that can't log on at noon on Tuesday? Will it run for more than one evening? Inquiring minds want to know!

Now I've got to choose which character to bring! The adventurer whose namesake was killed in the Nemesis attack on Washington DC or the Nemesis automaton from another dimension where the automatons built their own civilization?

And will the Nemesis enemies be spawning in via zeppelin drops or mole machines burrowing out of the ground?
  10. Doc_Reverend

    Mutant issue....

As an aside, to be fair to Vanguard and those "They're among us!" posters... they're not wrong. There are Rikti infiltrators that can pass for human. Kelly Uqua, for instance. Not to mention all the other infiltrators about, such as Nemesis automatons, Arachnos spies, etc.

... great, now I'm imagining a company or agency who's entire staff is made up of various evil infiltrators working at cross purposes. Like the Rikti infiltrators in human resources clashing with the automatons in accounting.
  11. I am hoping this Nemesis Invasion is more like the Rikti or Zombie Invasions, with big numbers of them coming out of the woodwork or teleporting in via Mole Machines. I enjoy those, even with the lag, a ton more than some of the recent Praetorian attacks, where it becomes "follow the bouncing GM" and everyone swarms to one zone.

Also, when they do it? Don't just go "Atlas is under attack!" Because that turns zones into a HUGE mess of lag as the entire server zones into Atlas or Talos or where ever.
  12. Oh it does have serious End issues. That's why I have Power Sink there. Which is what I push to make my END issues everyone elses' END issues instead.
  13. I'm looking for some feedback on my Titan Weapons/Electric Armor Brute. I took Superjump and Mu Lightning for concept reasons, same reason I'll be going with Preemptive Core interface.

My main goal here is boosting my survivability, as she got smacked around pretty hard on a generic IO build on the ITF by the Nictus. It's part of why I've got the two Scirroco's Dervishes slotted. That's an extra 6% or so Negative Resistance, which is handy if you're fighting Thorns, Banished Pantheon, or Nictus.

I am debating on the issue of which Alpha to take. Resilience Core Paragon boosts my Smash/Lethal Resistance to nearly 70%, and Fire and Cold to nearly 50%. Even Negative Energy was up to almost 45%.

Alternatively, there's Cardiac Core, Spiritual Core, and Agility Core. I've got enough recharge in Power Sink that End really isn't an issue. Run out? Steal theirs. I can do it every 18 seconds. Spiritual and Agility both boost recharge, which is nice, though I'm pretty good on that front. AVs tend to laugh off -END too, while the bonus Spiritual brings to Energize is nice and all, but not huge.

So appreciate input on that, since the Alpha is driving me nuts. Here's the build:

  17. It seems to mostly be with older machines, so for all I know it could just be that our graphics cards arn't up to snuff or something about Atlas makes the system cranky. My laptop is about 4+ years old and cantankerous.

  19. Odd. A lot of people I know avoid Atlas because it loads slow, is rough on their systems, and going near or within sight of Ms. Liberty turns it into a morass of lag.

Most of the RPers used to hang out on top of City Hall, but not as much anymore. Atlas crashes a lot of people's systems with it's crushing lag and memory leaks.

Also, devs, if you read this... please fix that. I miss being able to go into Atlas. I can't anymore because my system screeches to a halt when I get near City Hall or the plaza.

    Mutant issue....

Something I always figure is that Paragon City is a very tolerant city, much like San Fransisco. This may not be true for other parts of the world. Just because there isn't wide-scale, organized "burn the muties" stuff in the streets doesn't mean the kid with blue skin doesn't get a mountain of crap in high school. And not because of any particular hatred of mutants per say so much as people finding an excuse to be petty jerks to each other.

Additionally, most mutants don't have powers that are the type that make them human wrecking machines to be superheroes. For every one walking piece of human-shaped nuclear powered artillery there are dozens, maybe hundreds who while mutants, are not all that powerful. They're the guys who can talk to fish, or have grey skin, or can see gamma radiation, or whatever. Montague Castanella, for example, has the presumably mutant power to be immune to shifts in the time stream and sense alterations within a timeline. An absolutely useless power... unless you happen to cross paths with Ouroborus.

Psychic types do seem to be the most numerous, but that might be just that a lot of organizations recruit them pretty heavily. It doesn't help that "mutant" is kind of a catchall for what's really probably a number of different origins, from some kind of mutant gene or condition to the children of two metahumans who are born with powers themselves. They're really everything that isn't natural, science, magic, or tech, and the lines can get pretty blurry sometimes.

Even of those with a bit of real power, most don't really have enough of that mix of guts, power, brains and independence to become a hero or villain. So they join up with the Outcasts or Longbow or Arachnos or some other group. Or they maybe just go about their lives, get jobs, do a 9 to 5, raise a family, and so on, because they feel no real compulsion to choosing a line of work that involves being shot at a lot.

Being a mutant does not automatically preclude putting on tights.

I do see mutants as the most numerous of the origins, however, in that while the others are for the most part anomalies, accidents, or unique cases... mutants are just born. Nobody's sure how many there are. Maybe one in ten thousand, maybe one in five thousand, maybe even one in a thousand. That'd be between 30,000 to 300,000 in the US. At most, that's less than 0.1% of the population. That's not a whole lot, especially if you assume the majority, while still mutants, are either disinterested or unsuited to getting into the super scene. But it's a LOT more than probably every other type combined, because all those others are unique, pretty improbable scenarios.

If there's anti-mutant sentiment, it's likely lower level than the X-Men style mutant internment camps and Sentinels. I can imagine a scandal in professional sports when some football star turns out to be a low level mutant, and everyone starts going "Did his powers give him an edge? Is that cheating?" I can see high school bullies giving the kid with blue skin crap. I can see people on the bus giving odd looks to the guy in a business suit with four arms. I can see harried parents wondering what they did wrong to make their kid talk to birds in their own language, and trying to figure out if their child is ill... or actually can.

I imagine it was quite the shock in the 1940s, however, with people wondering if these different children born all over the world were infected with some kind of disease. Could it spread? Could my normal looking child turn green tomorrow, or suddenly start shooting fireballs? How do I protect my child? It's a very human reaction.

It probably took a while for people to figure out what was going on. I mean, we didn't even know about the DNA double helix until 1953.

But three generations have passed since then, and now? Only the greying oldtimers can remember an age where there were there weren't any children just born different and men couldn't fly. Heck, there are mutants with grandkids these days. Some even have great-grandkids. Assuming whatever factor that causes these things is hereditary and dominant, you may well be seeing third or fourth generation families of mutants, especially if you lump in the products of mixed metahuman marriages (like the child of two Science heroes will likely be... unique).

The world of City of Heroes is a pretty weird place sometimes. I admit a fascination with blurring the line between the fantastical and the mundane, and the juxtaposition of the strange mutant... and the old lady living next door who bakes you cookies. Makes it more interesting to me.

One little detail I always notice as well. Sister Psyche says mutants didn't appear until 1938. Sister Psyche was born in 1920. My general interpretation of this is that there were mutants born prior to 1938, but they were incredibly rare. After all, there were Giovanna Scaldi and Abelard Vernoux in the 1600s, both of them powerful psychics. But they were so rare, there was no term to describe them or concept that they were connected. After 1938, their numbers skyrocketed to the point that they became a discernible, identifiable and separate group and label.

But they've always been around, in the shadows, just like the Circle of Thorns goes into 1898 and Nemesis apparently used his inventions in the American Civil War and battled General Sherman.

And that's my rambling thoughts on the matter.
  22. Gnashing of teeth aside, have to agree with the general sentiments expressed here. If we're replacing the current Maria Jenkins arc where you rescue Statesman with one where you rescue Positron, shove the Statesman version into Ouroborus with the original arc and let us get the Statesman's Pal badge through that while the new Positron version gives us the Positron's Pal.

I can kind of understand why the Sister Psyche/Penelope Yin badge might be a sticky widget from a coding perspective, just with how it ties into the Task Force Commander accolade. I'm taking a wild guess here, but I don't think the way the accolades are currently rigged that you can set it so it goes "You must have badges X AND Y AND Zed AND/OR Q." Just not how they're coded.

But the Statesman one... it just feels a little much. I think the Statesman's Pal is actually a Defeat badge, tied into defeating Tyrant/The Olympian Guard. Would it be possible to make a duplicate Olympian Guard for the new arc, one that's tied into the new Positron's Pal, which awards the new badge upon defeat?
  23. Yeah, I really enjoyed this one, for the reasons sited. Just imagining his expression of sheer annoyance when you say "I'm not taking orders from you!" made me grin. And then his response to "But I have a special brain!" being basically "Hey, it's your funeral." and explaining why you shouldn't take chances with mind control.
  24. I really enjoy the Sutter TF, it's up there with the Apex TF for my favorite task forces in the game. While the final fight can be rather sticky, there's something I realized that made it more enjoyable: you're so awesome at this point, they didn't send in more troops. Oh no, you're a big enough threat they called in air strikes.

They need the big guns for you.

That and shows the authorities, in this case the Navy, helping and being useful. The problem is that this has turned into a superhuman fight with giant robots, and for that... you need heroes.
  25. Brass Monday is a big one I want to see. Would also like at some point to see Talos (CoH's cross of Gigantor with Captain Marvel) and his final showdown against the Chimera, or being able to go underground deep enough to find the pair still locked in battle (now how'd that be for a set piece battle? You've got two hundred foot tall titans still duking it out, while you're running around trying to stop the bad guys from letting Chimera out). Would love to see some of the fights from the forgotten groups of the 1950s and 60s. We get a fair amount of stuff that tie into the 1940s, but rarely anything from the post-war decades.

Or maybe seeing the Dream Doctor in action in the 1930s, first taking on the Circle of Thorns, cultists and monsters with his newly formed Midnight Squad. Heck, there are references in some arcs to weird stuff going on even into the 1920s, such as the discovery of a Cult of the Shaper cell in a coastal Massachusetts town and it's subsequent destruction by naval gunfire (i.e. Innsmouth). I love pulp and two fisted action (I'm in a pulp/gold/silver age RP group for crying out loud), and I'd love to see some of this stuff.

I understand why stuff like Brass Monday is tricky. The devs have said as much, that when they came up with Ouroborus Brass Monday was at the top of their list of things they wanted to travel back to. The problem is that realized showing the early 1930s means some pretty heavy resource creation. They'd not be able to recycle many art assets to build the environments or enemy groups, and that's a lot of work for a one shot mission.

However, given the recent focus on the Signature Arcs and the unique environments created for them, especially that of WWD7... who knows? I wouldn't entirely rule it out now. I'd love a big set piece fight with 1930s Nemesis.
