Quote:That is much better....seriously.Fine. If you want to play semantics and get tunnel vision over the wording that I used, let's call it "Pay for performance" instead of "pay to win". Is that a more acceptable term?
So, basically, what you're saying is that if somone could buy these kind of things on the market, you feel that would invalidate much of your playtime?
I'm curious, do the people who feel that this would invalidate their playtime enjoy playing the game? I'm willing to admit that many aspects of this game are a grind (like every single mmo out there), but once you start feeling like playing the game is work you should stop doing whatever it is that you're doing in the game (not permanently but, for heaven's sake, go do somthing else either in game or out of game).
I have also spent lots of time obtaining cool shinies in game, and I'm proud of that. However, where you and I differ, is that I would have absolutely no problem teaming with somone who spent money on their build to make it uber (as long as they know what they're doing). Tell me...if you were on a team, and everyone was getting along and having a great time beating up villains, would you suddenly quit your team or start raging at somone if you suddenly found out that that person had paid for many of their shinies? It's a game, and I'm gonna have fun playing it regardless of who payed for what. -
^^ this.
I also am genuinely curious about what "win" means in this game. Myself and others have asked this exact question in this thread, and so far I haven't seen one person tell me what it is to "win" in City of Heroes. -
i would very much like to play a bear with carp melee.

As far as I can tell there isn't anything in the store that is required for people to "keep up with your friends and still help the teams you are on." You should be able to do that w/out buying anything from the store.

Quote:QFT. Thankyou. Thankyou very much, because this is exactly what I was thinking. Besides PVP, what exactly is it that we "win" by having the shinies?I am.... confused... by this pay-to-win concept.
Win?
Win what? When do we 'win' this game?
And if this is -only- about PvP, touche. If its about more than jut PvP, please tell me how to "win" in this game. -
Dear lord.....when will these entitlement posts end?

Quote:Well, you're going to have do -somthing- on any toon you make. Sure, you're going to have to keep your pets alive, but when you're in a team its much easier.....especially when there are other players providing buffs, debuffs, heals, taunts etc...I don't know about that, you would have to do something to keep them alive. Once they are dead your doomed. They really are work especially with the broken AI since first implemented.
I can't tell you how many times i've been on one of my Masterminds and actually walked away from the computer for several minutes while my pets continued to destroy things. -
Almost any MasterMind is a great slacker AT. Sit back and let your minions do all the work.

Before F2P I -had- to have a paid subscription to the game and GR to legally experience incarnate content. I didn't even need my own computer. I could always use a friends computer (which I did on many, many occasions) or a parents computer. But I -had- to have purchased a legal copy of the game and pay the $15 monthly charge. Now, you only have to pay the $15 monthly charge. Whether incarnates was promised with GR or not, it doesn't change the fact that you needed to be paying $15 a month to experience that content. You still do. What was the problem again...? oh, its not free? thats a bummer man.....thats....a bummer.

Quote:Fixed that for ya.Is your position actually that Premium players who PAID, please note that word *PAID* for GR and had a paying subscription to the game and recieved Incarnate access like we did in the good old days [when you paid for GR and had a paid subscription = Incarnate access] - that those who PAID would all cancel their subs en masse as a result, and this would cause the game to fail?
Are you serious? Because that looks like a pretty wide leap of logic to me. But ok.
I guess. -
a few perks....yea, i wish we had a vet reward program. free issues would be nice too. a VIP server would be really cool. free paragon points. etc. all that stuff would be a great perk for playing an amazing game ... oh wait, we already have that stuff. maybe they can mail each subscribed player a pie. that would be great.
seriously though. this is an amazing game that I've been playing for almost 7 years. i can't say that about any other game. I'll continue along as I have since 2004. I'll continue to pay for my subscription and continue to get the great game that I've been playing all these years. I have an idea, why don't you continue to pay for the game like you always have been and continue to get all the perks (plus some) that you've been getting. -
the sense of entitlement here is sickening.
-
It's true. Even "casual" gamers can participate in the new incarnate trials. From start to finish you can easily complete either trial in 30 minutes or less (not including the time it takes to form a team).

not complaining is not fun. way to go devs. thanks for making a great game that i've enjoyed for 6+ years. now i can't complain about anything. you suck.

I've been playing coh for quite a while now, but I've never delved too deeply into messin' with IOs. I have a Fire/Rad controller who I've decided to slot up with IO sets.
If you have any recommendations for a lvl 50 Fire/Rad controller please let me know!
Thanks! -

because double xp really doesn't matter that much anymore. with AE you can almost replicate it. AE really is ruining this game in my opinion. kinda reminds me of what happened with EVE Online. oh well.

why not be able to right click on the buff in the upper right hand corner and select "remove buff"? I absolutely support this. I can't think of a reason not to have this option.

I still think we should have double SB weekend......

Its funny that you should think of somthing like this. About a year or so ago a friend of mine and I decided to come up with an 8 hero team who would play exclusively together with the intended purpose of doing task forces. We sat down and came up with what exact power sets and power pools each hero would have, and what each heroes role would be. Things like squishy protectors (a scrapper who's sole purpose was to protect our squishies when they got in trouble), secondary tanks (should the main tank go down in combat), a designated invisibility/teleporter (for those missions that could be stealthed), etc... We were even going to start an SG just for our team of 8 called Task Force Theta. It wasn't all that hard finding people that we knew who would be down for playing a hero who already had his/her power sets and power pools pre-decided. However, getting 8 people together at the same time on a consistent basis was nigh impossible. It was such a cool idea, and we had so much fun coming up with the concepts, but in the end it all collapsed.
Your idea sounds really cool, and I hope it all works out for you. Just thinking about where we would have been right now with Task Force Theta makes me wish it would have all worked out.....
