Thank you for the replies you two. I'd like to address a few things
On Enhancement levels: I do plan on exemping down and yes most of them are not available. I have a good group and have been running ITF/LGTF every night and using merits when needed to buy recipes that I just can't find for sale. I've been shooting for 35's but have taken some 36-38's when needed or 32-34's.
I have one purple set on my Fortunata build but it was inexpensive and I don't have the cash yet for a full purple set. I have about 300mil or so to spend. I broke down and paid (with merits) for a numina's (as I had one) and sold it for the cash. In a nutshell yes purples and pvp io's are beyond me currently.
I have one botz set and am hoping with the nerf they'll come down in price, if not it's just more merits i'll need to spend or farm more tickets
from AE for random rolls. Also I modified my Mids to show the correct BotZ levels since I saw the nerf in closed beta....now if I could figure how to get mask presence to only show the suppressed numbers at all times.
On Powers: I was thinking of the winter's gift resist slow in the other hover slot instead of the second fly IO. Or move the slot to somewhere else.
I reworked the build and moved the slots out of IW and into CT: D and Mask Presence as suggested for the same, if not better defense.
Placate I like for the extra crit and dropping unwanted aggro if needed.
Mind Link...I'll look into swapping that down to 24. That's a good call for the lower level TF.
Mask Presence. I am aware that it's stealth and had already planned on getting a +stealth IO for sprint to give me full invis.just as you have suggested.
Lunge: Good call thanks! I'll do that.
Hasten: I don't really know what I could drop to get hasten in there and would rather avoid it but I do see and know how much it can help.
Assault: I just figured the extra damage buff would help but can drop it without a problem for something else. If I add an attack I'm not sure where I'll get the extra slots from for it?
I wish I could get eviscerate or slash in there but again the VEAT's are so tight on powers its either more attacks and no heals or less attacks and heals. /sigh.
EDIT:
On AV soloing: What do you suggest I change to lower end costs and raise damage? Another attack? Hasten with 1 rech in it in place of assault? -
Quote:My version of mids is... 1.621, issue 16, database version 16.1147 (03/mar/2010)For some reason I can't import your build. I'm running Mids 1.601 with database version 1.69204 (11/Sep/2009). Looks like I need to update.
I'll do that hopefully remember to take a look again at the build.
Quote:At a casual glance, I don't think that build could take on AVs without insps. Any possible attack chain with the powers/slots chosen would be subpar and might not be end sustainable either.
To improve on that front, my own choices would be to drop Assault for Hasten, trade Poison Dart for Swipe, and slot as to run FU -> Lunge -> Strike -> Swipe gapless and sustainable for at least ten minutes.
Would swapping out dart for swipe help without hasten? I took dart for pulling and runners. What would you do different?
Quote:Night Widows can lay down the hurt but they are a low HP AT and, outside of pure defense, are largely "defenseless". Yeah folks will say "but scaling resists..." but they are largely worthless. In an AV fight just be prepared for using aid self a lot. Not trying to discourage you from trying, just making you aware.
Also.. no slash or eviscerate? Those are the "big hitters" most folks goto NW for (well, slash is... some ppl don't like eviscerate esp when you have access to spin). I can see if you are wanting a sustained DPS widow, but outside of placate and mental training you can make a fort with the exact same powers (and add in aim to suppliment your follow up and double stacked assaults).
Outside of my personal preferences listed, nice build. While a fort could do the same build they can't perma ML as easily if at all compared to a Night Widow due to Mental Training.
I just didn't have room for slash eviscerate unless I drop the travel power (which i could do but really hate) and I'm not sure where i'd find the slots for another attack? I could probably lose some defense and reduce stamina to 4 slots to gain a couple more slots to juggle around.
Thanks! The build was based on a few in the forums and TopDoc's High End widow build guide, which I know is out of date but still has good info. I'd like to get eviscerate in there somewhere but no idea how :/ What do you suggest? -
Quote:it's interesting. If it's a recipe that sells decently well as a crafted IO that i've gotten as a drop I never sell the recipe. I craft and sell the IO. If it's a recipe that sells for only a few thousand I vendor it instead of waiting around for it to sell out of my limited market slots, so I find that I'm rarely selling recipes if at all.I almost always go after Recipes as, usually, the order on the market is filled more quickly and more cheaply. General rule of thumb that is true most of the time but not always. I go after crafted IOs when I'm feeling extra desperate to get something. Haven't gotten there yet, but we'll see.
-
SO I have a fortunata that's mostly kitted out (need a couple uniques) and I'm looking at doing an alternate Night Widow build for perma ML, team buffs, and great soloability maybe AV killer if possible. This is what i've come up with so far.
The recharge is sitting around 87% and all defenses are around 48% without mask presence on.
Any suggestions?

My guess is that whatever is going to be done to bases will be done with the least amount of developer resources tied up and the fastest turnaround, due to bases being such a small part of the game and seemingly not working the way the developers thought they would.
So any major programming changes are probably not going to happen. Full on new task forces that require fully created new missions/art/critters/scripting is also unlikely to happen.
What will most likely happen is "fluff additions" as they take the least developer resources to create, assuming that ingame objects are cleaned up to work in the base editor and that Jay's assistant or someone else has time to do that.
Preset npc's or perhaps using the AE to create them with a basic functionality also may be low developer resources as the AE interface already works and the code of course exists already for stores/etc.. That kind of thing may not take up much of Pohsyb's time or one of his helpers.
I'd like to see a full issue devoted to bases myself with full resources going into base overhauls. -
I listed functional things. what more do you want? what other things have you listed outside of your original post on base functionality?
pvp? been covered
npc that do ingame functions? been covered
base raids? been covered
what's left outside of better tools to do what the editor does and that's been covered tooIt's all suggestions from people on things they'd like to see. Much of that will fall into the "pretty base" category because that's pretty much what the base editor does. It lets you make a place your sg can hang out and used to allow base raids and that's it.
-
If I am a winner, I permit NC Interactive, Inc. and NCsoft Europe Limited to use my name, likeness, photograph, hometown, and any comments that I may make about myself or this contest that I provide for advertising and promotional activities. I also certify that I am at least 13 years of age and am eligible to participate in this contest.
What do you mean Banished Pantheon Totems got an upgrade with Ultra Mode? -
Myself and others have been asking for functional and non functional npc's for years now. Many many years. I'd be happy to buy them from the base editor just like any other NPC, or even better use the AE interface to design them, give them a background story and a popup menu text when clicked on.
Functional ones I'd love be able to create using the AE interface.
- Tailor
- Fateweaver type
- Store to sell to
- Store to buy Insp from
- Trainer for leveling / Respeccing
- Market
- AE Employee
- PvP arena interface npc & arena match item.
Non Functional ones I'd love be able to create using the AE interface. With abilities.
- One who just stands around. Perhaps cycles through emotes that are ticked off of a window with set variables like when clicked or approached.
- One who paces around a room.
- One who paces/wanders/patrols around a base.
- Being able to set a group to patrol/wander around a base (using ae interface for group creation).
- Ones who sit or lay down on furniture/items in the base. (place invisible marker and set marker with some sort of interact trigger. NPC then uses marker and follows the set interaction such as sit/lay)
I want my base to feel alive and be just like any other part of the city with its evil/good minions/helpers. I'd also like access to the standard critters that are in AE also for the looks with the functional/non functional abilities above.
REALLY give bases a kick up!
As for functionality on a non npc basis I'd like to see the huge gap between start up base and power/control reduced to be reasonable for the very small supergroup or solo player. Something like...
- Create a Supergroup and gain a prestige grant of 200,000 (enough for oversite + room or two w/item and decoration.
- Jump from oversite center reduced. You go from 75k (oversite room + combo unit) to needing 375k (450k - selling the oversite+combo) as it is now.
- Upgraded combo unit (can only have 1 combo unit of any type) Cost 75k ~ 200 energy, 125 control.
- Add in Greater Magic Axis/Large Mainframe. cost 125k consume 100 energy gives 200 control
- Change Magic Axis/Mainframe. to consume 50 energy, give 100 control
Add in Simple Generator/Small Power Crystal. cost 125k gives 500 energy & 2 aux connections.
Small base upgrade would then be:
- oversite center + combo unit = 75k (125 energy, 75 control)
- oversite center + upgraded combo unit = 125k (200 energy, 125 control)
- control room + magic axis + energy room + simple energy generator (sell oversite & upgraded combo unit) = 250k (500 energy, 100 control)
- control room + greater magic axis + energy room + simple generator = 375k (500 energy, 200 control)
- control room + greater magic axis + energy room + generator = 450k (1000 energy, 200 control), then on to super computers for 500 control.
Side Note:
Add 1 more beacon to the single teleporter. One teleportation destination is silly as the room can only hold one teleporter. This too is a huge jump from 1 destination to 4 with a greater cost increase.
Base Editing Tools:
Really REALLY need an xyz axis movement tool from small increments to large along with a rotational tool to rotate at angles/degrees. -
Quote:They also buy specific merit amounts in the form of a recipe at X level instead of having to do all the task forces/trails required to gather said amount of merits. No what they do is buy your merits by having you random roll your merits for them. There's a bit of trust on their part you won't lie of course and keep a goodie but have some junk in your inventory ahead of time to say you rolled.
There'd be no way to do anything that would transfer the results of Vanguard merits. Those are the ultimate bind on acquisition item we have in the game. At least with costume and temp power recipes until you craft them you could trade/sell them. -
The save path method is a great way to do this if you also want to vary the look of a same critter.
For example I have an enemy group of Genies who have some human servants, and mostly human servants. I've created 2 or 3 different looks for the servants and kept the powers the same to add some spice to the visuals with 2 or 3 variations per servant/critter and then just named them slightly differently in the save path.

Ok i mucked around with it for a few days messing with things on and off and came up with the following modifications. I aimed for enough recharge to get rid of hasten, add in CJ and then concentrated on defense melee/s/l with s/l taking a bit more priority though I did try to get around 15% of the other positions to help out a little.
My L50 power has no slots available so was kind of a throw away power. I tossed in the pet because pets are neatand easy to not miss when sk'ing down.
Any other suggestions? It's very very difficult to find kinetic combats vside and I have 2 in there so that's going to be tough to get as is
I went with the oblits in lightning field due to the fact that power sink will be up like every 15 secondsso that should take care of any endurance issues and if not then I can sacrifice the recharge and reslot lightning field with some end mod, end red, dmg.

Quote:yes you can. check out the "Carnie base" link in my signature. I did up my base as a carnie tent and added in a ton of NPC's to give the carnival some life. Then going overboard as I usually do I made each segment into mini movies and took appropriate screenshots.I go t a question on that - can you use that sort of thing to get a scene with more than one of your own characters on screen at one time?
All you'd need to do is offset the position of each person from one another or get a group to stand where you'd like your characters to be, then stand where you want the camera and just do a very short demorecord. -
Quote:As much as I need inf and wouldn't mind helping you out ingame I can help you here for free.I'll give those a shot, if I don't get any nibbles on the demorecord thing. I'm rubbish at putting together collages like those, but I might be able to suss it out. Thanks!
Look into demorecord for your character.
Once upon a time I had a demorecord in the tutorial area and I positioned my character where I wanted them to stand, then moved the camera where I wanted and recorded it. The great thing about demo record is you can do something like this...
- Position person A where you want them in game, on any map, doesn't matter, though its far easier if you find a map you want so you don't have to try and translate camera info.
- Person B moves around person A and says something at each "camera position" you want so you can find the info easier in a demorecord.
- Edit the demo to put your character in the positions you want and remove extra camera info, so only the camera positions you want are there.
- Run the demo and take screenshots at each position with ANY character in place of character A.
You can also make people do stuff in demos that you can't do on live, like give a new character an aura etc..
The beauty of this is once you have it all set up for a character you can then put in any other character with only a little modification of the basic file. -
sigh, can't figure how to get cj in there and keep fly :/ Seems i really need to go for +recharge with some +def on top of that (either s/l or positional melee) to get my heal/energize up more often. LF is a huge end drain currently with 1 L40 end red IO in it.
IO's give me a migrane -
Quote:Sargent Smirnoff was thrilled that the Developers had finally released the SuperBoozer pack! It came with its own shotglass emote and the fantastic porcelain prayer emote, new costume parts like the Bacardi boots and the cool power attack "I'm soooOOoo Drunk!". Quote:Well so far I've been doing a little bit of everything. I'm not looking to be some sort of main tank but I have been in that position so I guess I'm looking at trying to be as survivable as possible without giving up my damage. I think recharge is really a good idea and I know that a pure +res set need some +def to help from experience with other sets in the past.Djeannie, what is the intended purpose you have for this toon? Is it tanking, AoE damage, ST damage? Because I see a little bit of everything in there, but nothing is emphasized in particular. Even if you want an all-arround decent toon, some improvements could be made.
Just asking people what they'd do to build a better brute and what they could suggest for improvements (and why) to what I already am working towards.
As for cost, I'm far from rich and have slowly been crafting to afford stuff so purples are out of the questionStarted doing some TF's with friends for merits too.

You young'ins have it so easy with yer deegital kameras. I remember hand rolling film in bulk loaders and sloshing chemicals around in a red lit closet with a sink.
Nikon, Cannon, I could care less as long as it's reliable and works well. -
Quote:btw I like these ideas. They sound interesting. Really want more chances at winning the Ring Mistress costume code. If I were ingame rich I'd offer to buy one from a winner.A nice variation on this would be to pick a person randomly from those who takes a given screenshot. That way, it isn't always, first come first serve (not to say that some shouldn't, but more are than not right now).
Also, some more "subjective" contests like the caption one might be nice. Perhaps invert the caption game. Give us a caption, and we give you the screenshot.
"The most comfortable place in the Rogue Isles."
And then judge the screen which exemplifies that phrase.
or
"Worst place to be without a travel power."
"PPD break at the Donut Shop." -
Well looking at theOcho's reply to the ss poster, and the fact that no more unveiled ss' have been posted and now that its past 4pm pst I'd say those are all good indicators that, yes the first poster won in a short time of the contest going up.

Questions:
Footstomp: is it better to go with oblits instead of the +recharge proc? Doesn't the recharge proc have a chance to go off per foe that footstomp hits or is it just that you'll be firing footstomp off so often that makes it good?
Lighting Field: I've used this in the past for good end drain once a foe is nearly tapped out but it needed at least one end mod in it to do so.
With the build above, isn't running oblits in lighting field tough due to the lack of endurance reduction? LF is pricey to keep going and of course oblits won't add to the end drain but if the benefits outweighed that then I can easily see doing without end mod in LF.
CJ: Going to have to see where I can squiggle a slot from to add a +def and +global rech to it if I swap it into my 49 slot.
Zmoosh, Do you find your powers recharging fine without having hasten? -
Quote:Aren't positonals a better idea as they cover a wider variety? With sets they come with both position and a specific or two per positional. I wasn't really looking at the specific defenses as much as trying to get around 20-30% melee and maybe 20% other positions. At a quick glance, my first suggestion would be for you to go through the build and exchange all of the positional defense sets (ToD, Aegis, Perf Shifter, etc) and continue building for typed defense (like you did with Reactive Armor sets).
Focus on SM/L above all others, 3x Kinetic Combat is a good place to start.
Once you have that done, try and find a few more slots for Health, definitely remove some slots from Stamina (2 will suffice) and I would highly recommend getting a -KB IO or two into the build (even though you have grounded).
Lastly, I want to double check you have the 60 month vet reward ability to take fly without a pre-req as well as suggest you get Combat Jumping into the build somehow.
Stamina was there for the def bonus but can of course be modified, I'll give that a try in mids and see what it does. Yah i'd like to add a KB io just in case.
Yes I have the 60 month vet reward and took fly for its lack of a disadvantage outside of being slower then sj/ss. I could drop taunt maybe and shove cj in there and toss a lotg recharge in it?
Quote:Here is a S/L cap build I have been working on. With no def debuff res I went with Soul Mastery for the -to hit, but you could switch it out for Mu with no enh changes.
Appreciate the advice both of you. -
yah when i saw the above picture i was tempted to just post /thread cause that has to be dead on.
Soo Ocho is there any other way for people to win these? I was one of the main people asking the developers for costume codes to be made more accessible and have been after a Ring Mistress code forever now with no luck
