Cardiac Core Paragon is, in my opinion, the best possible alpha for an SS/SD Brute.
It reduces your endurance consumption across the board AND also increases your resistance.
Endurance is your number once concern on this build, after you are softcapped.
Quote:40% to all, yes. To just S/L, doable.
Made a build. It needs the PvP +3% Res IO to get 41.5%, but even without it it's at 38.5 which is damn near close. Plus softcap.
I used this build as a base and made some improvements, several things were overslotted or slotted with a bit less efficiency then they could have been. Tough only had 4 Aegis pieces which I didn't understand, you need the 5th piece here.

If Dinamo is willing to get the 3% Glad Unique, I can increases his recharge.
The Armageddon set in Footstomp is completely optional and can be changed to 5 or 6 piece Obliteration (as Cardiac will reduce the End use)
Accolades and Incarnate must be turned on, the build uses Cardiac Core Paragon. -
Quote:Musculature always gives more DPS than Spiritual(with DB anyway). I think you can do away with both Hasten and Spiritual and still get smooth DB chains(BF-AV and BF-Sweep).
Seeing as WP doesn't need recharge at all it would be a solid way to go.
Hmm, well that would free up 1 power choice as well as 2 slots.
Unfortunately Superspeed is a must for me, although with the news of I21 and paragon points, etc. I will most likely try to pick up City Traveler ASAP if its available that way.
Let's say best case scenario, all of that works out:
- Go Musculature instead of spiritual
- Gain 1 power choice
- Gain 2 slots
I think I would probably do this:

Updated the Data Chunk to reflect slightly different slotting in the PBAoEs.
I'm...not very good at calculating DPS.
How can I figure out which would be better DPS wise, Spiritual vs. Musculature, assuming Core Paragon?
As BF > Attack Vitals doesn't require that much recharge, are the only main benefits the increased recharge on Hasten and the added +HP & Regen from Spiritual?
W/ Spiritual Core Paragon
2338 HP
109 HPS
W/out
2313 HP
94 HPS
The HP impact is minimal, but 15 HPS is a pretty moderate amount of regen to lose (about -14%) -
Quote:Thanks for the spreadsheet, and 200 DPS is pretty respectable. In a human form build I have, with t4 reactive radial and tons of recharge, against a single target I'm seeing ~200 dps not including damage from the pets. If I include Essence Drain in that for "every tool available to survive," that drops to ~195, again without pets. Should be slightly lower than those, though, as I am not counting activation times for eclipse, hasten, or sunless mire.
I haven't calculated the pet dps contribution in a while, but I would guesstimate that three of them with the soulbound buildup proc would pump out about 150 dps?
Edit: For AoE, you can look at the spreadsheets here, though Joe's numbers are a tad off at the moment.
I'm assuming that build is a high end no price tag build?
I've had a Warshade on ice for ages, and I'm trying to decide if it will ever become a real project. This is encouraging at least - although with T4 Reactive I would really like more than 200 DPS.
Still, if the AoE output is there, I could probably live with that.
Quote:I fail at the numbers thing, but solo, my warshade clears +4/x8 fire farms in 5 minutes max with bosses turned off- Keeping 1-3 small purple inspirations active at a time and small blues for endurance recovery- one used at a time after quasar only. Bosses on teams slow it down a bit, but the survivability difference is well covered with the use of vengeance. -
Yes please post the data chunk, along with your budget and goals for the character.

Quote:Free to play players will barely be able to speak or interact with you.In comparison to GW, Freedom is tame stuff. The maturity level, on the whole, has been much better in this game than most other games I've played ( EQ, GW, WoW, DAOC )
I don't think you have anything to fear. -
Quote:I was thinking about this, because the idea is intriguing.I wonder how the VIP server will work...I like the idea of consolidating all the players who have made the great community what it is. What would happen tho if your toons are on the VIP server then you downgrade, are they locked out/xferred off?
Have always wished they would consolidate the servers to bring back that "M" in MMO.
I don't even know if it's possible, but I'd love to see two options for the VIP server.
A) Full character transfer as is normal now.
or
B) Character copied to the VIP server, but the original character remains on the original server as well - the catch? The character can never be respecced or all enhancements already slotted become permanently bound. In addition all mail & market slots for the character get deleted on the VIP side and all INF would need to be deleted as well. Your original character remains unchanged. -
Quote:This is funny, because Freedom as of right now is the server most voted to be rude, arrogant and impatient. The only other F2P game I've tried is Guild Wars. Based on the type of player you typically found in that game (rude, arrogant, impatient), I'm not looking forward to this.
I really, really wish they'd make the Freedom server a VIP only server.
Or better yet, make mirror images of all the current servers, the original copies remain VIP, the mirrors are open to everyone.
So if this is your chosen server (Its where I play) I doubt you will notice much of a difference from the F2P population.
Curious if you think its ok to gate Costumes, Emotes & Auras behind incarnate content. -
Quote:Alright Deus, I have numbers for you. I must say, they really disappoint me, but they don't actually surprise me.
My Dwarf form optimal chain, with hasten active, is this (>> indicates a gap):
Mire > Smite > Strike >> Smite >> Mire > Strike > Smite > Strike >> Repeat
The entire chain takes 11.928 seconds, includes less than half a second worth of gaps, and does a total of 1216.7 damage. After accounting for 0.95 accuracy, I get a DPS of 96.9.
That's pretty awful, but it's understandable. Even though this chain includes two purple sets (in Mire and Smite), the base damage here just isn't anything to write home about. If you're going to fight a single target for extended times as a warshade, you're better to do it in some other form.
Full saturation isn't much better. Same chain, with 10 targets to buff my damage yields a total of 1894.9, which works out to 150.9 DPS. Again, considering I have two purple sets in that chain, it's not very impressive.
None of that is rotating the heal, Black Dwarf Drain, in there either. It has the worst DPA of all Dwarf attacks, so if I have trouble staying alive, these numbers fall quickly. Let's face it, Dwarf Form is not the best for dealing damage.
Well, while I would never advocate a Dwarf form WS for dealing ST damage over a Scrapper or Brute, 150 DPS is at least passable if you compare it to the quasi-tanker that Dwarf form is.
So here's the next two questions.
Using every tool available to survive, what would be the absolute optimal ST DPS you think you would be capable of? It can be any form, or changing between forms.
Using every tool available, where does the WS fall on the AoE damage output scale?
Assume something like Dark Melee/Invuln is "extremely low" for AoE and something like SS/FA/Soul Brute would "extremely high". -
Quote:Hey does anyone have any opinions about a good primary to go with Willpower? I know SS is the best choice but I already have a SS brute and I'm kind of tired of rage crashes. I would like something that can farm quickly but I still want good survivability and few weaknesses which is why I think I want /WP as my secondary. The first thing that comes to mind is Elec but I'm not sure if I like the lack of single target dps. I was wondering if FM or SM had enough aoe to be good at farming, at least at higher levels.
Choose if you want to farm or want to do regular content.
The two are completely different.
You don't need survivability if you are farming, you need offense and more offense. -
Quote:Mathematical Analysis is fine and good, and very valuable.Holy mother of -- THIS. Especially THIS.
I never thought I could agree with someone more.
In fact, we've pretty much proven though mathematical analysis (as long as you use Dark Regen at the right time and don't run yourself out of endurance) that Dark Armor is superior in SO survival to at least Invuln, and Fire. I'm fair certain it beats regen and willpower as well.
But you also have two big qualifiers in there:
1) If you use Dark Regen at the right time - Which also requires that it's recharged and ready to use at the right time (and that you aren't on your back from KB).
2) As long as you don't run out of Endurance.
I'm a firm believer in Brute survivability in the early and even higher levels being tied directly to their ability to remove the threat. This requires fury > which requires attacking > which costs Endurance.
Quote:And that's before accounting for the control auras.
And before accounting for the fact that they have to kill you twice.
I don't want to die once, even if my self-rez is amazing.
Brute low damage scalar with zero fury leaves me less than impressed with the self-rezzes like Soul Transfer and RoTP - even if they have really nice secondary effects.
Lastly, I give advice to people on what I think they are looking for and what I think the average player will enjoy.
I know that I can personally make the most of a set like DA while leveling, but that doesn't mean its going to be an enjoyable experience for nearly everyone. -
Quote:I'm going to agree here. You shouldn't play Dark Armor then. Take something else, color it dark using power customization. I feel much the same way about IOs, and having leveled a /DA brute to 50, I would never recommend it to anyone else. Not without seriously investing in the IO system in the process.
Unless you are going to use at least some invention sets, I would recommend choosing something other than Dark Armor. -
Its quite literal but you can play with the concepts for costume imagery.
As Dark Melee, with Gloom, you will be using your left hand to attack almost all of the time.
I thought you could take that literal usage of what is actually a non-literal concept and expand on it.
So names:
And some more background info: Left-Hand Path -
Thanks for all of the input so far.
I was leaning heavily towards DB anyway (just because it looks fun really), so the collected input has me feeling good about that decision.
I was debating between Willpower and Invuln, and while I think Invuln has the Defense advantage, I decided to go WP for the added Recovery which allows me to go Spiritual or Musculature instead of Cardiac, as well as WP putting me within 50HP or so of the Scrapper HP cap, with 100+ HPS regen with 10 foes in range of RttC.
Here's what I've got at the moment, using a template that Werner had showed me for Softcapping WP. It currently has Spiritual, for the rech and heal benefits but I'm considering Auroxis' idea and switching to Musculature.
It's not softcapped, because I don't have the Glad Unique, but I got relatively close enough.
Pros:
- 2348 HP
- Regen 109 HPS with 10 in range of RttC
- "Close enough for government work" to softcap for SM/L/Ene/neg
- I don't like how power slice is slotted and might remove the Achilles heel proc from Ablating Strike to add a Nucleus HO to Power Slice.
- Not sure if I can run Tactics all the time, but I most likely shouldn't need it all the time
- OMG WTF 6 slotted Confront & Tactics? Confront was for the set bonuses and because even a single target auto-hit taunt can be useful on teams, if someone has a better idea I'm ready to hear it though. Tactics I took for the set bonuses in gaussian's and because I figured I wouldn't want to miss when it's combo time.

I'm planning a new scrapper that will be getting a fairly "mid range" IO build (basically, no PvP and no Purples).
I'd like to play either Katana or DB, because I have never played either before.
The build will have about 40-55% Global Recharge, Hasten and I will be aiming for Spiritual T4.
So while not terrible, it won't be the most amazing levels of recharge either.
In which case, I was hoping someone would be able to tell me which one comes out better on ST DPS, DB or Katana, with that level of recharge, no Fury of the Glad Proc, etc.
I also want to know which is better for AoE capabilities, although I'm pretty sure it would be DB by a little bit - while Katana has the advantage of DA (which I'm not particularly concerned about).
Thanks for your help. -
You can actually get up to 45% SM/L resistance on a shield brute (and be softcapped).
It requires:
- ED Capped/Near ED Capped Res slotting in Deflection
- Cardiac Core Paragon
- 3% Resistance Shield Wall Unique
Then you can take Barrier Core Epiphany for a permanent 5% resistance to all, which will get you to 45~46% -
Quote:Aside from agreeing with the quote from Arcana that Strato posted, I didn't specifically oppose the idea at any point. So if it would be ineffective, why oppose it if it would make people happy to get it?
But if you gave me a choice of asking the devs to buff /regen, I would support a Slow/Recharge Debuff Resistance improvement before I support an improvement to Regen Debuff resistance. -
Quote:No. Too many variables. Look at my main, claws/sr. AoE output comes from three attacks. Do I believe that the knockback caused by shockwave is so detrimental that I would have an overall boost in kill time if I were to drop it from my chain? Not at all. But that's something that's easy to test.
Rather than drop it, I would most likely replace it (on my own claws/invuln brute) - which is what I'm considering.
So maybe
Spin + Eviscerate + Shockwave
vs.
Spin + Eviscerate + Ball Lightning (although Ball lightning has a 32s base rech)
Anyway, this is getting off target. Sorry for the thread derail. -
Quote:
Did you really just suggest that I use inspirations? You did. I'm going to have to ignore that.
In all seriousness, I'll see what I can come up with for you.
I gave that a quick read.
I hoard T3 Inspirations myself.
I am in a continual cycle of purchase and usage, and keep bins in my base specifically for each of the main insps I regularly use.
However, I tend to know how much of each inspiration any one of my regularly played characters will require depending on the TF or Trial - and I use them freely when I know I need it (usually moments I wouldn't survive otherwise).
Its exceedingly rare that I use more than 1/3rd of them (except for my FA brute on lambda, I rearrange his tray to have enough lucks to solo the entire 2nd phase if necessary), and generally only happens on the worst of the worst PUG leagues I might end up on. -
Quote:Willpower gets -20% regen debuff resistance in Fast Healing.
Willpower also gets inherent resistance debuff (due to having resistance powers) and defense debuff resistance (though, a small amount)
Its been my experience that the combination of the two things you mention above amount to nil under the majority of Regen debuffs, which are mostly designed to completely floor your regeneration. -
Quote:I want to be an AoE (potentially farming) wrecking ball, and a single target AV solo machine all in one, and I don't know any set that does that as well as fire.
Unless you are specifically interested in doing "no temps / no insps" AV soloing, I don't think you could ever convince me to take aid self.
This goes double with access to Rebirth.
So if that is not your goal, and you are completely open to using inspirations (especially T3 Greens, which you can stock up on if you have a base), I would probably drop those two med pool powers and grab OWTS for starters to at least pick up a slot by sticking the glad unique there.
And then I would probably do this:

Quote:The suggestion I replied to was that /regen should get the same amount of -regen debuff resistance that WP gets.Eh, if they put a -20% regen debuff resistance into fast healing, and -80% regen debuff resistance into IH (as its Instant Healing, no amount of -regen should negate it, and currently a malta mech looking at you funny floors your regeneration, even with IH running)
And WP most very certainly does not get -100% regen debuf resistance. -
Quote:3: When I do care about kill speed efficiency with aoes, I don't use it. The only time I care about kill speed efficiency when aoes are involved is when I'm farming with my claws/fa brute in AE and then I'm playing in a way I would find abhorrent in normal play.
Barring your personal preferences on normal play, do agree that Shockwave is in fact inefficient from a kill speed standpoint?
I personally do, as well as other forms of KB, for me however "normal play" consists of an endless attempt to constantly maximize damage performance regardless of whether it is single target or AoE focused.
As far as the actual thread discussion.
Its a catch 22 in terms of gaming enjoyment.
The people who like KB, want to use it and have fun.
The people who dislike KB don't want people using it (or they don't want it on their own character), because it hampers their idea of fun.
That's the major issue for me, that on some level having someone KB stuff away from you if you are on the anti-side, practically feels like being griefed as there is simply nothing you can do about it except quit the team.
Which seems like a poor resolution to what should simply be a fun experience. -
Quote:That's my other worry. Could my MFing warshade handle all those extra enemies? I'm guessing so, but now we're talking something a great deal more stressful than I feel like testing. Meh, maybe.
Fixed.
But in all seriousness.
If you need to use weaker enemies, or even inspirations, I'm ok with that.
My main interest is in just what kind of melee damage potential there is available.
