  1. Add me to the list of folks that needs help understanding how to move the camera in demo records.
  2. Ok so I made this avatar while back using Photoshop:

Now looking at all the little editing toys over on Photobucket, seems like I should be able to create the same sort of thing...or can I?

If I can, could someone please tell me how? Or point me to a guide or something.

    Basically I don't want to re-install Photoshop...cause it gives me a headache.

Thanks in advance for any help.

While this is true, it does not apply to chained/auto missions. If you have a chained/auto mission, calling the contact WILL NOT kick an AFKer out of the mission. So you have to wait...

Milk Run - A routine trip involving stops at many places.

Basically, it's a weekend where I schedule a bunch of TFs to make a ton of merits. It's a lot of TFs so each one is run as fast as possible to allow for greater time in between them. Some folks like/need to stretch their legs or build a house in between TFs.

If you've never done a speed run, you are still welcome to sign up. Just understand speed runs may look rather different to you. Since the emphasis is on speed, things like splitting up and/or near team wipes are acceptable. It also means some missions might be over before you zone in. If you need to walk the dog, powder your nose, or perform CPR on grandma; please kindly EXIT THE DAMN MISSION SO THE REST OF THE TEAM CAN CONTINUE...plus I won't have to kick anyone for AFK silliness.

Forming teams for TFs is always fun, but after 3-4 TFs the shenanigans get rather annoying. If at all possible, please sign up ahead of time. If you think you might want to join, but are not sure, post anyways and we'll label you as tentative.

If you cannot post on these forums due to forum phobia, work restrictions, banning, or religious reasons; please PM me, send me an e-mail at Desmodos@gmail.com or in game tell to @Des.
I generally form the teams 5-10 minutes before start time. If the team is not filled ahead of time, I start recruiting before start time. 5 minutes after start time, I start replacing anyone who signed up but has not shown yet.

Rumor has it that Gameguard is so easy to bypass it is essentially pointless. For this reason the devs are supposedly considering dropping it entirely.

Basically, these types of programs are becoming increasingly popular amongst developers for games that are highly competitive. If you are trying to do anything out of game, it can be an annoyance,

If you want to see your "unfiltered" frame rates, then turn vSync off. But I suspect you will want to keep it on to reduce the artifacts.

Thanks for the explanation. I'll experiment with this.

  13. I installed the EVGA over clock tool. I didn't mess with any of the settings but I noticed I peaked out around 60 FPS. Not sure how that tool made a difference if at all. I still need to read up on how to tweak it.

EDIT: Almost forgot. The EVGA tool created a new annoyance. When ever I click on a different window, the gaming monitor would freeze. I have to alt tab off the game then back on and it un-freezes. Not sure if this is a dual display issue or just the EVGA tool.

Supposedly, there is still an open beta to take place prior to launch. Pre-ordering should grant you access to the open beta. Basically you can still test it out and cancel if it turns out not to be for you.

If you are interesed in joining up with us, PM me or Toril and we'll get you set up with the legion we've been beta testing with. They are made up mainly of former CoH and Guild Wars players.

I'm doing my best to be as honest as possible about Aion but keep in mind information I have limited information about how higher levels of the game are played. Closed beta capped at level 30 but I made a conscious decision not level past 20 as to not spoil too much of the game before live. All my information regarding higher levels comes from their forums.

    Quote:
Also, I'm basing what I said off of Des... he said something to the effect that the devs there say you should be able to level up in PvE, but that the game doesn't testify to that (sorry if I misquoted you, Des, but I thought that's what you said in the Discussion section)
That's basically what I said, granted more information has been made available since then. The devs have stated repeatedly that you can level from 1-50 just from PvE, where PvP is not required to level. Player from C-Aion and K-Aion claimed that was not possible, but they have been playing Aion 1.2 for several months. Aion 1.5 just hit beta for C-Aion and K-Aion. NA-Aion and EU-Aion will launch with version 1.5. Aion version 1.5 introduces additional elements to penalize ganking of lower level characters by higher level characters.

All claims about the ganking issues are exaggerated on Aion Closed Beta due to level caps. Folks really wanting to PvP can't do so as easily in PvP areas because few players have those zones.

That stated, Aion is intended to be a PvPvE game. PvP isn't something thrown in as an extra. It is an integral part of the lore of the game. Once you PvE your way to 50 PvPing is what you're expected to do. Yes, there will be PvE content added to the game it still only half the game. If you are adamantly against PvP I would not recommend Aion.

Depending on what you're doing, I can't imagine 'needing' more than 6 gigs. I debated 6 or twelve but settled for 3 2 Gig sticks. Upgrading to twelve will be easy as the three other channels are still open. Truth is, I have yet to see the system spike over 3 Gigs of RAM.

Rumor has it the Core I7 920 will be phased out in 2-3 months, so there will likely be a price drop on them shortly after.

On a side note: Will Core I5's drop into LGA 1366 sockets?
  17. Yeah, I was kind of expecting 60+ FPS based what I have read.

I'm on Windows Vista Home Premium, 64-bit (Service Pack 2, v.113)
    Direct X version 10.0

After installing the card, I downloaded installed Driver Version 190.38 from EVGA's site.

Should I have installed the additional SLI enhancement patch? I know the 295 has two processors on it but does that mean I should treat it as an SLI rig? I only installed a single 295 card.

For resistance toggles I recommend 4 Impervium Armors, depending on what you decide to do for knockback protection.

What do you want to focus on for your scrapper? Endurance management? more defense? more offense? I can make several suggestions if I know what you are hoping to get out of IOs.

There is a link to a guide in my sig. At the end of it are several sample builds including two builds. The first one is for supreme endurance management. The second one is what I consider the ideal compromise for defense, endurance management, and damage. It's what I use currently in game.

While we're at it, I'll list the first IOs you need to focus on:
    • Theft of the Essense: +end PROC (goes in Dark Regeneration)
    • Miracle: Unique +recovery (goes in Health)
    • Numina's Convalesensce: Unique +regen/+recovery (goes in Health)
    • Blessing of the Zephyr: Knockback protection (you'll want at least two of these in your travel powers)

    Quote:
I find that I rarely have endurance issues, so long as I juggle back and forth between Dark Consumption and Conserve Power.
I dropped both Dark Consumption and Conserver Power shortly after Issue 9. The right IO build makes these powers rather situational...at best.
  19. Should I be using special settings for a EVGA 295 GTX vid card?

    Full rig specs:
    • Core I7 920
    • 6 gigs of RAM
    • Windows Vista x64
    • EVGA 295 GTX vid card FTW edition
I just got the video card. While there was a significant improvement in the graphics (compared to my previous 7900 GTX vid card), but I kind of expected my frame rates to peak over 50 FPS.

I haven't fiddled with the utilities for the card yet. Figured I'd make sure I didn't need a slash command in the launcher or some silliness.

Presently, the details of Aion Open Beta are unknown. I got into Closed Beta 3 via File Planet account. I liked it enough pre-order which got me into all the betas that followed.

I have yet to see any dates for Open Beta or how keys are obtained. Aion launches in the US on Sept. 22 so Open beta would have to be fairly soon.

One of my biggest gripes with social networking sites is how recklessly they are used. Too many folks have surrendered their anonimity to the internet and publicized every aspect of their lives. Worst yet, they'll publicize yours. Many employers now check social sites when reviewing potential new employees. At work, I get daily reports about what other co-workers are posting their social sites.

I don't even know what it's about yet,
In an overly simplified explanation you have a non-player faction that wars with the player factions. This war had a cataclysmic event the split the player factions into two sides. Each side blames the other for the cataclysm and basically declares war on the other while still fighting the original non-player faction.

It all boils down to how you feel about fantasy MMORPGs. I got in on a closed beta weekend and basically pre-ordered the game before the weekend was out.

I personally thought the game was gorgeous.

If you are afraid of PvP, I suggest bypassing the game. The Aion Devs claim you can bypass PvP entirely, but PvP is an integral of the game.

While it's true everyone a particular class will have the same skill sets, based on what I've read and seen; skill sets are but one part of game play. Gear has a major part in your performance. The gear you chose and how you modify that gear will distinguish your character.

The physical elements of the character creator obliterate CoH but everyone in a class will start out with the same costume(armor). At higher levels (30+) you can customize the appearance and color of your costume.

I personally found the combat to both fun and challenging. I liked the animations of most the attacks. Even with in the same class, different weapons animated skills differently. I thought two handed swords looked very cool...until I tried a Polearm...I likes the Polearm.

    Quote:
Crafting is time-consuming and expensive, frankly, I didn't bother much with it. You can buy some materials but others will need to be found in the wild or in auctions.
Crafting can be expensive if you don't know what you are doing. I spent considerable time exploring the crafting system and after wasting god awful amounts of kinah(gold) I realized I want about it all wrong. In large part, when done correctly, crafting will at the very least pay for itself. The game seems balanced such that there is significant incentive for you to craft. Crafted items are either considerably cheaper than purchasable items or considerably superior. Crafted Armor specifically is far superior to purchasable armor, though dropped armor potentially exceeds crafted armor.

Gathering on the other hand is an absolute PITA. Gathering is time consuming an boring, but it does grant small amounts of XP. Gather is broken into two categories; extracting and aether extracting. While both can be ignored, several quests cannot be completed with out extractable items, so either extract them or buy them from someone else. Aether extraction is dangerous and cumbersome. There are only a few places to gather Aether and all involve flying. Flying time however is rather limited in duration. If flight time runs out, you fall to your death.

  25. Gonna echo Viv's comments. Artists generally view their work as...well work. As in the expect to get paid for it. This shouldn't in anyway discourage you from commissioning an artist though. There is an artist out there for every budget.

You can't discuss/negotiate prices on CoH forums, but if you look you can easily find a few folks to ask regarding artists and their price ranges.
