I suspect we're not understanding each other.

    I'm replying to:

What the hell. Seriously how much more testing is needed for the alpha slot? Aren't they all the same?
I'm stating, no, they are not all the same. There are three trees for the alpha slot. We're getting the first two tiers of the tree with Issue 19. Those two tiers constitute 3 different Alpha ehancements. 2nd tier grants enhancement to two aspects. So I don't consider them the same.

I would prefer that we use the heck out of these lower tiers so the devs can see the impact they have on game play before releasing the upper tiers.

If they release all the tiers at once, and then suddenly realize adjustments will be necessary, there will be more whining on epic proportions.

...um...no. Maybe I'm not understanding the question, but there are 9 different enhancements for the Alpha slots that will be available when Issue 19 launches.

    Well...you could get lucky

Seriously, how are you out Vanguard merits? On Desmodas Siazar I've purchased every costume piece, the salvage extension and numerous HVAS....I'm still sitting on a stockpile of 2500 Vanguard merits.

Did you buy a HVAS every day?
  4. Since the BotZ nerf, I've shifted to typed defense builds for Dark Armor and have been VERY happy with the results. S/L and E/Ne defense bonuses are easier to acquire with out making sacrifices to damage enhancement or endurance management.

My DM/DA should be at 98% of her build when issue 19 goes live, at which point I'll be focusing on my BS/DA. I'm estimating I can have the following build up and running in about 30 days, probably less. It's designed to be soft capped to S/L and E/Ne.

  6. You can unlock and slot the first alpha enhancement in about 3-6 hours. That's running Ramiel's arc, two TFs and buying a component with Vangaurd merits.

Of course, you could get lucky with Shards drops and skip a TF or two.

  9. Purples are a mixed bag. On many builds, characters are actually stronger without purples. Desmodas Siazar has 4 purples sets and I have considered removing them many times. Honestly, the only reason she still has them is because the current respec system makes them too much of a pain to remove.

I can see that on some power sets. Other power sets have made sacrifices or were forced into a specific Epic in order to achieve that sustainability. Cardiac is potentially as good if not superior to some of those choices. This would free up builds to focus more on other areas, such as recharge or defense.

I'd love to see explanations as to why? Seems like Cardiac would be equally if not more popular. I think it will all come down to primary/secondary and IO build.
  14. Neogumbercules, you may want to consider using Leandro's temp I19 Mid's setup.

You may be correct. He's actually got 3 slots left unused.
  16. I think you're placing too much emphasis on S/L defense. It's great to have, but only after you've evened out Energy defense. Yes S/L is more common, but you've already got great resistances to it, where as Energy resistances are really weak. You can't add significant amounts of Energy resistance, but you can beef up Energy defense.

EDIT: Also, curious as to why you're ignoring your Fitness pool?"

Depending on how powers are slotted, it could be 30% global recharge. Any power not all ready at DR from ED would get full benefit of the buff.

Post: Issue 19 only introduces one "level" of the Incarnate system; will future free expansions only roll out one additional level at a time, or is this just an "introduction" to the process? IE, will Issue 20 suddenly introduce 5 new Incarnate levels?

Bianco: It’s an introduction to the Incarnate System and, since I love Top Chef, I like to call it an amuse bouche because it’s a ‘taste’ to whet the appetite for more to come from the Incarnate System. Matt “Positron” Miller would probably call it a Sneak Peek, but I like my reference better.

As for timing, rather than dump a stack of Incarnate Levels on the player or force them to wait several-month-long increments between Issues, Positron has publicly stated that he plans to dole them out a bit at a time. So we’d seed the first, let players chew on it for a while, and then when the time is right (maybe a month, maybe more, maybe less), the next one is released. This way, the content is as close to a steady stream as we can make it, not trickle-and-starve or flood-and-done.

  19. You're build is OK. You'd certainly be very successful with it, but I do have a few suggestions.

You've targeted Impervium Armors for +end bonuses, which is a great idea for endurance management. Thing is, you could achieve similar levels of endurance management and obtain more defense bonuses.

Your current build design get really good S/L defense, but your're Energy defense could really be better. IMHO, Energy damage is kind of a weak spot in Dark Armor's inherent mitigation.

As ClawsAndEffect mention, Reactive Armor can help you boost up Energy Defense. For AoE powers, I like three Eradication for +max End and Energy Defense. This regains some of the + end lost from Impervium Armors and adds big Energy Defense bonuses to your build.

Keep in mind, if you're going with the Cardiac Alpha, endurance management will improve dramatically on your build. I seriously doubt you'll find much need for Conserve Power once you have it.

Here's what my build looks like. It has 32% S/L defense and 36% E/Ne defense.

  20. Not setting any budget limits right now. If a great gift idea seems out of budget, I can recruit other family members to chip in.

I've just been informed the 3 year old is into Dora, Tinkerbell, and Strawberry Shortcake.

The 9 year old just got a laptop...(I'm still struggling with this concept), but word is she's getting into computers...ok loving this child already.

The 6 and 9 year old are into Nintendo DS, so age appropriate games for them is something I'm gonna look into.

  22. I need to buy my nieces Christmas presents.

I have three nieces ages 9,6, and 3. I've never met them (long story.) This year, for the first time, all three will be with the family for Christmas. Situation is such that it will likely be years before I see them again. I would really like to get each one a nice Christmas present.

I don't think I ever bought anything for little girls this young, so I have absolutely no idea what to get them.

I need some suggestions/guidance on age appropriate gifts. What's popular for this age group?

I know a lot of City of Heroes players have little ones, hoping the get a some ideas from here.

    Alpha Slot Info

I think the selling point is the ED exemption. While I admit many of these Alpha choice would lack luster in my scrapper (which I play more) I could see their utility on other ATs. I do think Cardiac will be the obvious most popular form the onset. It's rarely efficient to slot more than one endurance reduction in our powers. Now, we've essentially be granted a "7th" slot in every power for endurance reduction. I tend to slot all my resistance powers until the hit DR from ED. Suddenly getting addition resistance above that doesn't seem like anything to sneeze at. Not that it's something to write home about either. As we move into the rarer slotting options, where ED exception get higher, things start to look rather impressive.

Soft capping to all types isn't necessary. Ignoring that soft capping isn't necessary for Dark Armor, it's easier to obtain S/L/E/Ne defense values than M/R/AoE. Final builds of either variation will be equally as strong.

IMHO, this is no longer true. In many instances, I feel it's better to pursue typed defense over positional. For Dark Armor, I find stacking S/L/E/Ne to be as effective as M/R/AoE.
