1. Eventhough 2012 hasn't started just yet... I worked some more on this project today.

Added Medikitty and Red Catman to the picture!
(just basics though)

2. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!
May it be filled with awesomeness and loads of art!

Lime's Artzy

It looks like you've created your style Dolly!
I can tell a LimeDolly drawing from others! Yay!!

As for feedback on this last one...
The blue part of her costume that runs from her chest to her left shoulder (that goes up), it's missing shape. It now looks as if it's a piece of cloth being stretched from her chest to that left shoulder instead of part of the suit.
Also her left eye seems to pop out of her head.
That's all!

Looking good LimeDolly! I also see your art on DA and those are looking very awesome aswell!
Do you still think you can't draw? <- just wondering

FArt Battle 2012

Okay. The entering rules have been expanded to Deviant Art:
non-VIP member can now enter the battle aswell!!
Voting, however, will still remain on the forums (unless someone comes up with an excellent alternative before the first voting round)

Quote:
Entering the Battle:
Entering the 2012 FArt Battle can be done until the deadline of March 2012.
For an artist to enter the 2012 FArt Battle he/she simply has to enter his/her art piece which follows the rules and settings of the 2012 FArt Battle before the deadline of the months January, February and/or March 2012.

Artists that enter in February or March will have to do ‘make up’ art for the months they didn’t participate in. This does not include quick sketches but have to be finished pieces.
The ‘make up’ art has to be entered by the deadline of March and will not participate in any voting.
If an artist fails to put up the ‘make up’ pieces he/she is disqualified from participating in this year's battle any further.

Artists that are not (or no longer) in the battle may enter an art piece for the battle, but that piece will not be put up for voting.

To enter your art piece you will need a place to host your piece (like DeviantArt.com). Upload it there and put a link to it in a reply in the designated thread on the City of Heroes forums - Multi-media Fan Creations, which is named FArt Battle 2012 - {month}.
Use the following code in your reply:
(instead of 'link-to-your-art-piece' you enter the link to your art piece.
You can also enter your piece in the FArt Battle 2012 folder in the official City of Heroes Group on Deviant Art.
Each or both ways will be sufficient.

Artists who do not have access to a great part of the forums (like non-VIP members) can enter the battle by entering their pieces into the FArt Battle 2012 folder in the official City of Heroes Group on Deviant Art.
Regarding the votes, a little clearification added:
Quote:
Votes:
The voting will happen in a different thread on the City of Heroes forums. Everyone on the forums can vote, as long as they have access to the Multi-Media Fan Creations part of the forums.
The artists who participate in the battle can vote, but not on themselves.

Voting will last for a week after the voting thread has been put up.**
Votes are in a 1 2 3 system and there are points attached to them.
1st vote is 3 points.
2nd vote is 2 points.
3rd vote is 1 point.
Votes containing invalid information will not count.

FArt Battle 2012

That is an good idea, Bubba, didn't think of that!

*goes to fix that* Thanks!

Voters *could* vote on DA aswell, I suppose...
But then keeping track of possible "double" votes due to different nicknames will become very hard to filter.
Perhaps the next battle is better be held on Deviant Art completely. *nods*

FArt Battle 2012

Thanks Draggynn!

@syrusb: Yes, the battle is also about artists challenging themselves . That is what I meant too.. but sometimes I forget to actually explain every bit of what I mean . Self-challenging takes devotion... so in my head I covered that.. I'm odd that way sometimes *giggles*. But I definitely agree...and also I'm very serious about running the battle in 2012 .
18. *giggles* Poink away!
Still no promises for anything CoH finished soon though :P.
Still working on Xllusya, the Cat Project...and I'm trying to run the FArt Battle 2012 contest, while also having just started my new job. There's not enough time in a day!!!
19. But then the bugs will be on his helmet instead! .. not sure what good that will do *giggles*

FArt Battle 2012

I agree that the Battle so far has ended in drama, unfortunately.
I do hope it can be avoided in the upcoming one. I suppose that will be my challenge *giggles*.

In my opinion... as long as the rules are clear and they don't change during the battle, there simply cannot be a problem as everybody that plays, plays with the same rules. No exeptions.
That's why I announced the rules up front, so people can read and reply to them. And if I see good reason in those replies to change rules... I surely will, but not once the battle has started. Once it has started (which will on December 25th, when I announce the first theme), there's no changing rules or settings except for pointing out when the Final Round will be, because that all depends on the amount of participants after March.

Edit: Also... the Battle has always been a contest and so it shall be in 2012.

In the end... the host of a game or contest will make the rules and settings and the participants agree with them by entering the game or contest. That's his/her duty afterall.

I wish I could set up a steady neutral voting team to make populairity less a thing with voting. But it's impossible to get such a team and to let it stick with the battle for a maximum of a year.
So, complaining about the votes not being fair will simply not get anyone anywhere, before, during or after the battle.
I think this is why Bubba came up with the points and early-bird system.
To give "less populair" artists a chance aswell, but through other ways. It sure worked for me!
Also it will give an artist more honor if voters just vote their opinion in stead of blindly putting their favourite artist on the first vote and go to their opinion from there on.

I have thought about the option of participants e-mailing their entries (or PMing a link to it), so I can gather them and put them up anonymously, so the voters will not know who made what untill after the votes are in. But even then there are still ways to make voters do what you want. In my opinion...that's a way of cheating, really...
Oh well.... somehow there are always ways to somehow manipulate something to make it "unfair" for someone else.

I did my best to rule out as much as possible.
And the rest is up to the participants and voters.
Fact is that the FArt Battle is a non-official CoHboards contest, hosted by someone who will freely take up the responsibility and who will have to work with what's available as a player of City of Heroes.
There is not much controle over anything really and a lot of honest, honorable playing, voting and battling is up to the participants and voters.
That's just how it is and how we will have to manage.

As for prizes, they can motivate the artists. To have a purpose besides winning.
Also prizes are good ego-boosts .
I'm still working on some extra prizes. Not getting a lot (did get some though!) of responses from artists I contacted sofar, but I'll keep trying!

If anyone wants to offer a nice prize (besides ingame inf)... PM me, please, much appreciated! .

wow.. long story... wish I could make it shorter.. but I can't! *giggles*

FArt Battle 2012

Thank you for the feedback / suggestion Draggynn and Caemgen too! Much appreciated.

As for a response;
I think both suggestions, or rather systems, are good ones and I can absolutely see why they can work, but.... obviously there would be a but *giggles* otherwise I wouldn't be commenting, I also think in a contest like this one, the artists who decide to participate, participate with devotion to come up with a piece every month.

Personally, I see the FArt Battle as a battle where devotion plays a big part in.
For an artist to work his/her way through the battle for as long as possible, no matter what... now that's something he/she can be proud of.
That is why I decided to keep it "closed" for most part.

About the eliminations:
Unfortunately history has shown us that participants sometimes drop out, out of the blue, with or without notion, for whatever reason.
Most eliminations are pretty much from own choices.
Eliminations make it easier for voters to vote because there are less choices to make in the end.

However, this FArt Battle can run without eliminations, because every month a new winner is set by the voters of the CoH forum. It doesn't matter how many paricipants are left in the Finale. The points are just a luxurary to buy yourself time, a headsup on the theme or at some point a 1st or 2nd vote.
Afterall, the only other way to quit the Battle is by disqualifying yourself by.. for example, not submitting a piece after March 2012.

The downsided is, since I cannot controle how many participants are left every month, it makes it hard to set a month for the Final Round.
With Eliminations still active, there is some controle over setting a month for the Final Round as you know exactly how many are left after each month.
This is why I kept the elimination option active.

22. Thanks Impish kat!

@FireHeart: Famous, Infamous, slightly known or unknown.... all fine by me! *giggles* And the reference topic is still open for suggestions :P. Still no promises though!

Also, another update. Face has slightly changed... I'm trying to give Neko a less mature face as she always strikes me a someone with a young looking face.. oh and that's in her description too hehe.
Don't think I have it just yet. To be continued!

Well, I took the liberty to "ink" this drawing in Paint Shop Pro.
It's not so much as actually inking it.. I just sketched over your lines .
It is where I noticed I couldn't figure out where a couple of the lines went or what they were for. That makes it difficult for me to colour it. I don't know how other artists feel about this.

Like... the square-like plate-ish part on his chest...should it have more details on it? And what are those bubbly rays? A power? (it's very possible that I'm overlooking something )
Don't worry about it though. It's hard to put in all the details with pencil on an A4 piece of paper. You simply don't have the room.
But once digitalized, you'll see that there's ALL the room for details *cheers happily*.

So this is what I have. Click on it to get the actual sized one. It's a .png image which doesn't have a background and which is 1500x1836px

Feel free to alt where needed ofcourse!

*waves*

24. I agree too, you don't actually NEED a tablet to learn how to colour. It's a luxury, really. But drawing and painting with your mouse is far from good for your mousehand. So it is recommended to use a tablet once you start to draw more .

Also, I bought my tablet (wacom intuos 3)...ehm... second-hand? Translate Google says it's good, so... second-hand... or used. It was a brilliant condition when I bought it, was only used once for a demonstration (I've been drawing ALOT on it and now it actually looks used *giggles*) and I got it for 50% the price I would have to pay when buying it new. I got lucky with that one, but I'm sure there are more good deals out there.

If you don't want to screw up your drawing (I've been there too ), just go and scan it, so you'll have a digital copy of the original.
After that you can either ink the original or print the copy and ink that one.
It's always good to have back ups!
