Retraction: Crashing still happens. I'm rolling back to... 11.9? Whatever it is.
-
Well. I have upgraded my drivers to 11.10, and have played for about half an hour. It was at roughly this point that CoH would crash when I was still running 11.8 or so. With 11.10, it's still running. Also, no more "flashing" with disappearing objects anymore either. Whee.
Understand that I was using 11.2 before updating to 11.10. YMMV. Seems to be fine. -
"Some OpenGL games like Enemy Territory Quake Wars no longer experiences random corruption."
...sure, sounds good enough for me. Particularly if City of Heroes falls under that category of games. I'll take the plunge. See on the other side... or not, if Bad Stuff Happens.
EDIT: Er. Or at least, I would, if it weren't midnight, and I had to turn into a pumpkin. <.<;
Tomorrow night, then! What's the latest driver that doesn't result in crashycrashcrashcrash, so I know what to roll back to just in case? -
Quote:Heh. Funny thing, that. That was less me typing a message, and me recognizing that it would be faster to just die and Soul Transfer than to recover. What I *was* typing was /e dance. =PIF people wana say Darks are slow so what? you looked like you did a good job to me and looked liked you had fun doing it. you even let yourself die just to type a message cause you didnt care just 1 click and you were back up killiing all
Anyways. This isn't a question of "OMGZ, I R TEH SUXXORZ?!?!"
It's more a question of, "How much faster has the game gotten while I was away playing WoW?" I sought a definitive answer to this, because I was tired of the generalizations being thrown around in Radio Virtue, so I threw down a data point to get some idea on where everything else is relative. And since I believe I lots of data points, I've come here to get second opinions. (Why no, I'm not in denial at *all*.) -
This thread is not a question of whether or not it is possible.
This thread is also not a question of whether or not it is feasible.
The game plays at a much faster rate than it used to. Between the various efforts to get Permahasten, SR shenanigans, LotG stacking, and other avenues that I am not privy to, the game plays much faster than it did say, even a year or two ago. (Elec shenanigans? No idea what that's about.)
But tell me, ye who hath never strayed from the path and gone to play That Really Big MMO. Surely *this* can't be considered to be "taking an eternity" to solo?

Freshly uploaded to Youtube, terrible resolution, yadda yadda, give it an hour and it should be 720p. -
Still not fixed after this latest patch. You guys *do* have this logged in your bugtracker, right? The last time that I posted and said no more, Blueside Fluffy not accepting Accurate ToHit Debuffs wasn't entered into the bugtracker until I poked Castle about it, and even HE forgot for a while until I poked him again. Took almost a YEAR before it was finally fixed, if I remember correctly.

I just respecced my D4 last night, and while I did not see any of these symptoms you are describing, I hope these are merely graphical, and not mechanical.
-
Would love it if a red name would at least say if it's truly screwed or WAI. I'm re-writing the Dark/Dark/Dark Defender guide, and it merits including in there, at least.
-
Already done, but y'know? It was always nice to be able to drop Castle a PM and get an answer back. =T Good to keep in mind, though.
-
Since Castle has moved on to newer and bigger and better things, who does one poke, when one needs a power looked at? Synapse? Sunstorm? I am loathe to drop either of them a PM, unless they have an open mailbox policy like Castle did.
-
So. I figured out the issue. I needed to grab a Power Analyzer to do so, and thank the dev that thought THOSE little beauties up.
So there are one, possibly two problems with Fluffy and Darkest Night.
The first problem is that Fluffy's Darkest Night is incorrectly being flagged as "ignores buffs and enhancements", or something. The detailed power info does not reflect this, but Fluffy isn't getting past 15% -ToHit with Darkest Night. I have screenshots that are forthcoming.
The second problem appears to be an effects problem. It's not a result of reduced particles, since I am playing on Ultra mode, and maxed particles. In the past, Fluffy's Darkest Night would display the same effect that your Darkest Night would display, those darklight rays of light. Fluffy's Darkest Night no longer shows this animation. It would be nice to get a confirmation that this is intended, because the visual indicator was always nice.
(On a side note, I am slightly concerned about the radius of Darkest Night as well. I recast Power Analyzer on each mob, one after the other, and it appeared that while one mob was being affected by Darkest Night, the other was not.)
Did someone accidentally change Fluffy's version of Darkest Night over to the version used by the Dark Servant summoned by Carnie illusionists? -
So... I've been running tip missions on progressively harder and harder difficulties for the past week since I resubbed, and I made it up to +0/x8 when it hit me:
I haven't seen Fluffy cast Darkest Night once.
Now, I understand that Fluffy got a change to his AI to that of a Melee pet sometime in the past six, seven issues. But I can't remember the last time I saw him turn on Darkest Night.
I hope to run some more heavily-packed mishes later this evening, but could people take a look at Fluffy's AI and see just when he's supposed to be casting Darkest Night? I mean, that's kind of a *big* part of his debuffage. But if he is doing what I *think* he is doing, (checks to see if Darkest Night is already on the target, finds a Darkest Night that is not his own, then skips to the next step in the algorithm.) I am not looking forward to cornerpulling with my own Darkest Night tied behind my back.
Side note: I note with great sadness that Castle moved on a year ago. In the past, I'd have just fired him off a PM, asking him. (Hey, it's how we got Accurate ToHit Debuffs working on Fluffy Blueside after several issues!) Is Black Scorpion, Sunstorm or Synapse heading up Powers now? Student, master, yadda yadda? -
Oh thank $DEITY, Arbiter Fabulous is still around. And here I thought I was going to have to suffer through the folly of my own fashion mistakes for the rest of all eternity! Thank $DEITY for Arbiter Fabulous!

What is your goal with this Dark/Dark/Dark Defender, NightPrincess? Permahasten and defcap with a combination of +Defense powers and -ToHit?
That's the only reason that I can think of, that would explain why you would do things like 5-slot Doctored Wounds into Twilight Grasp, instead of using 5-slot Touch of the Nictus, the wasted accuracy enhancements in Tar Patch and Howling Twilight.
To answer your questions, no. You don't really need to worry about the defense cap. You'd need to worry about it even less if you buffed your -ToHit more. I mean. Seriously? You'd rather buff Fluffy's hold, instead of buffing his Chill of the Night aura, his Tenebrous Tentacles, and his own copy of Darkest Night all at the same time? -

You will have to look into new Praetorian groups on your own but his work should cover the bulk of what your looking for.

Joe, thanks as well, I thought that spreadsheet was lost to the sands of time.
EDIT: Ispahan, sorry for missing you the first time around. Thanks for that. -
Heyooo. S'me again, and I'm updating the ol' Dark/Dark/Dark Defender guide for I21. Probably going to be a fresh rewrite from top-to-bottom, for anyone interested, but since I've only been back for about three days, just wanted a quick reminder. Of all the critters in the game (that I can remember/was not able to encounter because I'm Hero-centric/never have encountered because Going Rogue came out while I was playing That Other Game) that resist Negative, those are pretty much:
Skulls.
CoT Spectrals
Death Mages
Council Darkwolves
Galaxies
Vampyri
Nictus

Dear Sexy Jay:
Today's patch seems to have broken some previously un-broken costume pieces. Two that I can across today include the Rapturous hair, and Cyborg 1 detail. The hair pokethrough seems restricted to just that one hair, but many detail pieces that go near the left nostril are poked through. -
Seems this also happened for some hair as well. Average 1 headshape, Young Face 9, but the head pokes through the Rapturous hair.

Quote:....Oy veigh. I recognize that now. Jordan Yen posted in my I15 guide, too. And I wasn't able to respond because I was only back because it was a reactivation weekend. --;Didn't pay attention to the link the first time around. I kept seeing Dark being weak and I was wondering what the source was.
Ah, now the true context comes out. Dark isn't weak. It's that defenders are squishy.
However....
Coming from somebody who took the snipe at 22, Fearsome Stare at 28, T.T. at 30, and Nightfall at 35. Yeah, I won't even really comment about what my opinion of their build is and their previous comment. Now, if they want to complain about /dark's damage due to lack of a 3rd ST attack and it's DoT nature, then I'm right behind them. My guess is this person has a ways to go before posting a guide on Dark/dark. -
Here's a character I'm particularly fond of. I replaced my old Natural Blaster with him instead, although since I now have Ninja Run, I may reconsider and go back to the Natural Sonic/Energy Blapper.

Quote:What's this I hear about a long-lost love affair? For someone newish to def's or rekindling a long lost love affair with them, I'd go along with Dark/Dark. It was my first def and I got him to 50 pretty easily.
Hello, darlings. Did you miss me? =D
Quite honestly, I don't get where all this "Dark is weak" comes from. Between Tar Patch getting a boost from Darkest Night, and a snipe that is usable while in-combat for heavy single-target damage, there's no reason why you can't take a D3 and go to town.
Yes, Dark is most certainly built to abuse large groups of enemies at once. But that doesn't mean you one, can't dish out single-target damage, or two, adjust to accommodate your weaknesses. A Ghost Slaying Axe, whether veteran power or temp, will help deal with enemies that heavily resist Dark damage. And besides, Tenebrous Tentacles is largely smashing damage anyhow.
One of the criticisms that I have regarding Dark Miasma/Radiation Emission comparisons is that while everyone recognizes the shared levels of -ToHit, -Resist, -Damage, and -Regen within Twilight Grasp, Tar Patch, Darkest Night, and Howling Twilight, which are always compared to Lingering Radiation and Radiation Infection, everyone always seems to forget about Fluffy, who supplies his own copies of Twilight Grasp, and Darkest Night as well. -
Hi there, folks. Back during a reactivation weekend. I've cleaned up the guide. Dark/Dark is pretty quiet in terms of patchnotes, though, but hey, no news is good news. Consider this officially now an I15 guide.
