And just as I was mousing over the fallen heroine, and shouting (IRL, mind you), "GOT YOU!" - bang, teleport out...

I'd like to see NCSoft claim that a YouTube video of how a particular issue's emotes look is worth at least $2,500 in revenue.

The bill seems aimed at those things which get taken down anyway. Now, there is a penalty for those who do such stuff regularly.
Hmmmm. $2500 = 167 players subscribing at one month each for $15. Are my vids good enough that I either 'pull in' or 'keep in' 167 players for at least a month per vid?

  7. I'll admit, my personal feelings on the whole "Numitron" thing aside, I really enjoyed the Mortimer Kal SF... they went all the back to the first run of the comics, when Posi becomes the bearer of the Flame (and I've always loved that part where the Flame sweeps Paragon City and the heroes regain their powers), and now here he is, almost seven years later, and for all his geekitude, even I paused at:

    Quote:
"I've had years to harness the power of the Flames. You've had that power for less than a minute."
Some of the tip missions are great, too... I'd forgotten about them. One of the ones that really sticks out in my mind is the Westin Phipps one, where it was SO... DAMN... TEMPTING... to beat the everloving crap out of him on national TV. I wanted so badly to just pummel him.

The Leonard arc ending with my clone (especially since the first time I did it, I was on my Merc/TA MM, Profiteer) was great and TOTALLY unexpected - here I was, hauling a** thru a base exploding around me, and I trip over her-me-whatever. First thought through my head (in-character, mind you - OOC was "neat!") was "No bounty on me, no sense in killing me... and you could be useful." So, sure, off you go! Then she got in my way at the bank. No more Ms. Nice Guy.

(BTW - how many people actually high-five Dean?)

  9. I know, a lot of people blitz through arcs without really reading them, but sometimes, you get some arcs that just make you want to cheer, or cry, or roar in defiance before charging in to beat the living snot out of someone. (I got to thinking about this after reading the "Which content do you enjoy?" and "Favorite bits of in-game writing" threads.)

Which ones do it for you? And why? (Redside, blueside, or Praetorian - I'm not picky.)

(And yes, there's a reason for me asking. I'll give you three guesses, and the first two don't count.)

If you're not sure of the arc name, swing by the ParagonWiki - safe bet it's there.

For example, one of my all-time favorites:

Dark Watcher's "A Promise for a New Tomorrow" arc in Praetoria. The entire Resistance>Warden storyline is incredible, but I couldn't help it, I got choked up at "THIS IS THE LAST, BEST, FINAL PROGRAM BY AARON WALKER HIMSELF." (Paired with the simultaneous ka-CHUNK of nine Dismantlers taking up position... oh, yes.)

EDIT: Another is Special Agent Jenni Adair's "Looking Through the Glass." The very first time I ran it, after beating Protean, I was actually saying, "No, no, no, nononononono..." while running hell for leather through that base and up the elevator to try and save my alternate self.

But we can always check the Ustream - pretty sure it was near the end of the cast.

EDIT: Damn him, he was right. Per the Ustream (56:48):

Positron: *whispering and crossing his fingers* "COMIC-CON!"
    Zwillinger: "Yeah, fingers crossed!"
    Positron: "Fingers crossed!"
    War Witch: "Fingers crossed!"
Zwillinger: "We'll see, we'll see. Hopefully. Who knows?"

Yes - per Zwillinger on one of last week's Ustreams, it was their goal to be able to show the first trailer at San Diego Comic-Con 2011. Here's hoping a) they meet the goal, and b) someone at the 'con films it and puts it on YouTube!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZ7GxkPi5_A

Sam's video was good but it was like Alice in Wonderland. I hope the official video will be nonstop fighting. The clean environments are a nice but MY friends won't come here unless they can see how good the combat is.

Finally, the issue has to be done BEFORE Christmas. It would be nice to get some taunting from Marcus Cole too. It wouldn't hurt to have Recluse and Statemen put a few words too.
    *bampf*

To address this one, in order:

    1) "Winter 2011" for me spans October - December. I would rather OVERESTIMATE how long it takes them, and have a couple dozen people mocking me on my YouTube channel for being wrong than UNDERESTIMATE how long it takes, and have HORDES OF ANGRY PLAYERS baying for my blood and Paragon's because "HER VIDEO SAID 'FALL 2011' WHICH MEANS AUGUST!!!!!!! YOU LIED RAGEQUITRAGEQUITHASSLEHASSLEHATEMAILETCETCETC"

    2) This is a teaser, meant to hint at the possibilities when the Mother of Mercy Psychiatric Hospital makes its appearance in the game. My other teasers will also pick features or content that the devs had made public and do the same. Anything more would require me being in the beta, and if that were the case, the NDA wouldn't allow me to post more info without getting banned, sued, etc. So back to square one there.

A full-on, "here's what's REALLY in the issue", balls-to-the-wall-AWESOME trailer (assuming I can reach such a lofty hope) has to wait until the issue goes into open beta and I can film it. Sad but true.

    3) See 1 and 2.

Nope, all my recording was done using the /demorecord feature. It helps I have a fast rig and a really good video card that can hack me cranking the Ultra Mode settings "up to Eleven", as it were. Then when I play it back, I set my playback speed to 60fps and voila, neat, smooth, and awesome. The shakycam effects are done in post production.

This whole video (finding music, doing vocals, recording in-game, editing, vid conversion, etc) took me about... fourteen to sixteen hours total. I'm not sure exactly how long I took running around in-game to find certain shots. Oy.

I love that video. I still want to go back and redo it now that I've had a couple more years experience under my belt. But I still laugh each time I look at it because I predicted the Incarnate issue two years before they released it.

Ha ha ha... oh, you poor deluded soul. Allow me to remove the scales from your eyes.

I plead. I threaten. Anyway, if you were to ask Black Pebble his definition of "hell", I'm sure I feature in there somewhere.

And that's all I've got to say about that.

*Actually, that's not entirely true. I also make mine because a few players like them, and because I still hold out the vain hope that one day I will be good enough to do this professionally. Not at Paragon Studios, mind you. I finally gave up on that. But someplace else might be nice. Just not Cryptic. Even I have standards.

Because, due to the doomity doom all over the forums regarding the inevitable influx of F2P'ers, the whole thing suddenly seemed VERY tongue in cheek.

I know that you started work on this project before the massive paranoia hit here, so my reaction was simply a case of ... timing, I guess.

I think it was very well done. Nice timing with the music. Nice job on the vocals. I can definitely see a progression of improvement with your vids. Keep it up.
I wish I could say I had thought of that aspect when I'd started... but I hadn't. And you're right... in retrospect, it makes it damn funny.

And as far as the 'well thought out explanation' thing, that's more for folks who DIDN'T like it and why. Like a discussion Emperor_Steele and I had way back when about the credits on my vids. He was 100% right in his opinion about how I could improve things, and he laid it out in a way that made total sense, plus suggestions on how I could do it. At first I was irked like, "who are you to tell me how to do these things?" but after reading his response, there was nothing I could say but, "yeah, you're right" and make his suggested changes. Which turned out for the best.

Of course, most of that was just seeing that you're making some more videos about Co*. If this was a movie trailer, I would be making plans to see the movie, at midnight, alone, by a graveyard, with a electrical storm raging outside, with the lights off, and a baseball bat with nails through the head in my hands.
Not everyone who saw this was creeped out - if they were, great. If not, did I at least pique/maintain their interest in its intended subject (COH:F)? In Clawstriker's case, no. Oh, well. No ad is perfect. In M_F_A's case, not sure - I know he likes my vids, just not sure if he's onboard with COH:F or not.

    *******

FWIW, I really don't mind it when people don't like my work - I just prefer an honest, well-thought-out explanation and constructive criticism to "ur work sux" (which yes, I still get). If there's something more you'd rather see (as long as it's POSSIBLE), I'll keep it in mind for a future attempt. I still have a LOOOOOONG way to go on my videography skills.

Three problems with this otherwise-delightful idea:

    1) Black Pebble's in Mountain View, I'm in Seattle.

    2) If you're hoping he's read this thread or seen the video, vain hope. (In fact, considering he's not in this video either, safe bet is he won't watch it.) Zwill has seen it. War Witch has seen it. As far as I know, they're the only rednames who have.

    3) Black Pebble may be the brand manager for PS, but that doesn't necessarily give him any control over their advertising budget, or who they can allocate any of it to for contractual purposes.

So I appreciate the enthusiasm, but it is not happening. I hate the thought, it hurts like hell still, but I've accepted it. Mostly.

As horrifying as the CoT's background is (although for me, the Carnival of Shadows is right up there along with them), there's just something about the Seers that terrifies the hell out of me.
