Hey all,
I finally rolled my second ever blaster after making my first toon a blaster oh so many years ago. Now I rolled Dark Domina and settled on a Fire/Mental/MM build and soft capped it. I realize I certainly traded some damage and recharge and probably recovery for the soft cap but I feel the soft cap allows so much more to be done when solo that its worth it.
Questions:
Slotting Drain Psyche - I have never used it so have no idea how to best slot it. Any recommendations here? Currently I slotted it with Touch of the Nictus to five slots for the +2.25% max end and tossed in a recharge IO which cut its down time to 10 seconds. Is there a better way to use Drain Psyche? This power is probably central to any really hard single target attempts so I think it needs to have its effectiveness maxed. I could slot it with a full Numina's set and not need to use the rare and over 2 billion inf Gladiator's +3% Def Proc but I am guessing that would totally nerf the power...
Do the prestige sprint powers accept universal travel IOs? If so I have an extra slot to move out of Hove, probably into the totally underslotted Psychic Scream.
Fire Ball - Use the Knock Down Proc or slot the damage IO?
I can't help but wonder "Is this toon doomed to be badly end challenged?"
Other than that I think I have slots to play with in Fire Breath, Fire Ball, and Surveillance. Are those optimally used/slotted?

Hmmm some good stuff to think about so far. I just realized that my little list of powers above might have eliminated some good choices so don't feel constrained by my list.
The suggestion of the scrapper is an interesting one. I do have a fire/shield scrapper and an elec/shield brute so while the suggestion is pretty much right on I am looking for the "pure" blaster.
It occurs to me that I could try playing a few different combinations to level 15-20 but what are the chances that a set would play well to that level and then be quite sub-par when fully IO Set'ed out at level 50?
Anyone have experience with a rad/sonic or sonic/rad? -
My first toon ever was a Fire/Energy Blaster. Needless to say he wasn't my first ever to 50. After about a dozen 50s I am looking to roll a new blaster. I tend to either solo or run TFs and I will look to IO Set him out starting early. I would love to be able to solo AVs and perhaps GMs with her but its not a total req since I realize blasters are not so durable...
What would you roll and why? Since she is a blaster I am looking for DPS and sets that have good synergy. I don't tend to run into melee range and play blapper with my current blaster but perhaps there is a better way? Pros, cons?
I am thinking perhaps a combination of any of the following could be interesting?
Sonic
Rad
Mental
Fire
Cold
Thoughts? -
Right so I have a level 50 sitting in the garage that needs a tune up - any builds to share?
-
Hmmm - I don't have a pistols toon so I can't comment but I would tend to think RI is the place to put it since it is a toggle and will check every 10 seconds and has no tohit check.
Plus this way you won't be gimping your Pistols slotting. -
I am a rad fan, either rad/ or /rad. I have a rad/rad def but she isn't my fav. My rad/sonic def is a GM soloer.
EMPulse is an awesome hold. On my rad/rad a boosted EMPulse either before or after a Nuke pretty much shuts everything down. Its great to watch the whole square of remaining Robots go all shaky in the ITF.
I am surprised /sonic wasnt mentioned as a secondary in this thread. A rad/sonic is a game changer. -res -def -regen from the rad and -res to the max from the sonic face plant just about any AV/GM.
My fire/rad controller is the only toon of mine that can out pace the Rad/Sonic on AVs and GMs solo.
That being said I have to click to the back of mobs to get a baddie that won't die in 2.2 seconds in fast moving teams or I just don't bother until we meet something that is actually worthy.
I am currently working up a mind/rad controller. He is AWSOME - just not a solo'er of GMs and perhaps not AVs but as a team controller he is freaking the best controller I have had. I can get a second EMPulse off before the first one wears off if I use Power Boost. SWEET!
Can a cold solo GMs? -
You guys are doing great. Doing a fair bit better than tech support I would say.
So if there really was a rep button (or perhaps I just can't find it) I would be upping the lot of you.
I hope someone from Tech Support or the Devs are watching this thread as it is providing some good REAL WORLD info that should help them. I gave up on tech support - their "Its your fault" mantra was getting really old. -
New changes to Mass Hypnosis - moved the purp set there and added a slot to Dominate from Stealth.
More damage and didn't lose the recharge or the ranged def which actually goes up.

Nice - thanks for the reply - I am looking at changes.
Problem is I lose a lot of recharge if I don't use either the Purp set in Mes or the hold set in Dom.
-
Changed my Mes and Dom slotting. Made Dom a better hold and made Mez more damaging and gained some ranged def.

This has been a slow to materialize project but should turn out pretty nice. I revised the build - any thoughts? I am guessing he runs about 36% Ranged Def in combat and spikes to over 40 every ~35 seconds for about 15 seconds.

OK - the Proc info is big - TY. I had it in there but looking at it didnt think it was a big deal because I didn't know how it worked in game. I will put that back in there.
I have trip mine now and I can say I dont really find it all that compelling. It gets interrupted all the time in combat and it takes for ever to put down.
I was thinking this would be a good build for AVs except I didn't find a way to take a taunt so I am not sure what to expect on the AV front. I wanted to be near the soft cap in as many positions as possible and taking Provoke just messed that up. -
Everyone too busy with their DS/* to comment on a Bots/Traps?

Quote:/ThisOk, I'll bite. It *is* wireless but it's *also* specific to CoH where the game is causing a conflict with something in certain environments where CoH ran just fine before i17. Here's an overview of symptoms:
- Wireless connection and CoH running, the game gets pulses of packet loss every few seconds. These show up in game as "lost connection to mapserver" messages. Using netgraph, you see alternating red-green-red-green stretches.
- Wireless connection and CoH running, if you switch away from the game, the problem goes away. This is clearly visible when running in windowed mode with netgraph running. Click on the game window and you see the red-green-red-green. Click off the CoH window and netgraph goes clear green. You can still see game activity going on with people running back and forth, autofire powers going off, etc... and the connection is perfectly smooth.
- Plugged into the router with a network cable, the game works fine, no connection issues.
- Wireless connection and a different online game, no problems.
- Wireless connection, anything else (web browsing, video, file transfers, etc), no problems.
- Wireless connection, different computer, same network, running CoH, no problems.
Its what I would have said. Only add a "sigh" before I started because I would have to be doing it all over again - and again - and again.
Sharker? LOL. Why even post? -
Ahmon - thanks. I tried using other settings besides the one listed at the top which is called the "Offical CoX" and went to the bottom which was the other "Official CoX" and that worked. Interesting bit is for "(Ubb.Threads)" and the last one, and the one I am now using successfully, is for (vbulletin). The phpBB / Zetaboards also worked.
-
OK of those who are having connection issues how many are connected via a wireless card?
I am using a D-Link AirPlus G DLW-G510 (Rev B.)
Could CoH i17 be messing with the wireless card somehow? -
Quote:Amen brotha.Hopefully things will progress beyond denial and excuses soon, and we'll see an actual fix for the problem. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I actually don't think Tech support is being communicated with completely. I feel like the project management plan isn't bringing in all of the stakeholders and Tech Support is being left out in the wind.
Here is what I would like to hear from tech support.
"We are going to work you though a series of tests and fixes that will fix a majority of problems however we are aware of a set of problems which we, as of yet, do not have a fix for. We are told it is being feverishly worked on and we hope to have a fix for you soon."
Instead we get their current - its your routers fault - gibberish which holds very little logical water.
What I find interesting is that I can make my LCTM issues go away entirely by hitting the Windows Key. When CoH is in the background the issues stop. I can see my bots fighting, people dying, er, uh, being arrested in droves but there is no connection problem. So if it was my router why would it go away when CoH goes from front to background? Because it is the PROGRAMS ISSUE, not the router.
My issues have not totally gone away as I had thought the had magically done. I did an ITF today. Laggggg was my constant companion but it would clear up just before the dreaded LCTM message would pop up. -
What happened to Mid's Exports?

My first MM and still not sure I have the hang of it. She is currently 45.

Hmmm appears my edit to make the title more informative only makes the change in the thread.

Quote:Skeet... That rocks. Love the humor - thanks.I started on the tech support ticket task force today. After one gather system data mission and three waves of defeat all form letter email questionnaires I made it to level two and my problem has been escalated.
That should be a useful temp power if they spawn a "buy yourself a new router" AV on me. -
Something changed about an hour ago. I magically now no longer have any problems.
-
Did you read everything? My system now plays CoH just fine. Did it fix itself? Work though the logic of it. And NO I am not going to lay off until someone comes up with something cogent. Which you did not just do.
In my experience as a Technical Coordinator things just don't happen by chance when you are talking about computers.
Given the situation NCSoft Technical Support did everything right except be logical and work the problem from that perspective. They pedantically followed steps to solve the problem. So, while the steps may have been appropriate for a different situation they were a waste of my time and theirs. Perhaps the problem here is internal to NCSoft and has more to do with the communication between their stakeholder groups. -
To Whom It May Concern,
I have had a maddeningly annoying exchange with NCSoft Technical support. Here is the short of it.
1)Night before i17 my computer system plays CoH normally. NO Connection Issues.
2)Right after the i17 update, with no changes having been made to my computer at all, CoH now has connection issues which make the game unplayable on my system.
3)At their request I provide them with lots of information about my system and network hardware and software versions etc.
4)Technical Support has me check any and all drivers and firmware. Everything was up to date. Reinstalling said drivers has no effect.
5)Technical Support has me turn off just about every service and process which is not a Microsoft service or process. No effect.
5)While remaining adamant that this is their software issue I continue to follow their recommendations and download and run two programs. Game Adviser and PingPlotter.
6)After some more interactions NCSoft advises me to purchase a new router/modem saying the problem is on my end. I point out that my laptop plays CoH just fine. They reiterate their position that despite the i17 update immediately proceeding the issues the problem is on my end - even if my laptop works fine.
7)NCSoft runs a patch on May 4th (today) after which the problems with connection seem to have intensified.
8)I then decide to use PingPlotter to trace www.hulu.com and compare data from CoH. If my system or network is the problem then it will certainly show up in data gathered from other sites.
9) After running a trace on Hulu I start up CoH and run a new trace so the data I compare is from a similar time of day. CoH runs fine with NO connection issues. ?!?!? I have make NO CHANGES to my system since having tried to run CoH after todays patch. This does include a restart of my system post patch but not inbetween the post patch restart and the second test later in the day. So, no system changes or restarts between earlier today's test after the patch and the latter attempt to compare Hulu traffic to CoH traffic.
Poof, no announcements of a change, no hint of a coming change from customer service that would perhaps fix my issues from NCSoft Technical support - remember I am supposed to be out buying new network hardware... Just Poof my system now magically runs CoH w/o connection issues.
From a Project Manager and a Technical Coordinator's perspective (yes I have done both in an IT environment) there are a lot of things wrong with this. From a customer service perspective there is a TON wrong with this.
I would like someone, anyone, who works for NCSoft, to try and make a cogent explanation as to why one moment I am supposed to be out buying new network hardware at the insistence of NCSoft Technical Support and the next moment where everything works as it should. What happened and how it was fixed? Why is NCSoft telling me I need new hardware when it was perfectly obvious to anyone keeping score that the update was the issue? If I hadn't known better I would have gone out and purchased a new modem/router and thought that it was the fix for my problems. I would have spent ~$100s and never known that the fix actually occurred on NCSoft's end.
Thank you for reading.
