Quote:Assassin's Focus isn't being pasted - it's being created. But its creation is based on scrapper criticals in that they happen outside of hide.
Stalkers have always had Out of Hide crits.
When CoV launched Stalkers had 2 ways to get critical damage
the first using Hide/Placate, and the second was a 20%to crit on held/slept enemies.
So from creation Stalkers had a means to do Crit damage outside of Hidden.
Then everyone realized Stalkers were under performing in team content, and that the 20% crit was pointless in PvE and we got the Stalker buffs of Demoralize, innate 10% Crit and Scaling team Crit
Now we're getting Assassins focus.
Which isn't being borrowed from Scrapper Crits since those are just a flat %. Seeing how focus doesn't seem to have any kind of decay mentioned it's another way to control our crits, now granted it's a controlled AS crit which may not always be desired but it is a controlled crit. -
Yes
because it will make Recluse relevant again and it won't be more Praetoria carp. -
Quote:We all nerd raged about it because it's denying us power options for no good reason as anyone can come up with a thematic reason for anything. But what torques me is that the developers are ALL ABOUT THEME when it comes to designing and proliferating sets. Stalkers CAN'T HAVE Titan Weapons because it's not "thematic" and we nerdrage to the high heavens about it.
I don't see Assassin's Focus as breaking theme,here's why....
Back in D&D(2E,3E) the Assassin Class had a special ability called Death Attack. If the Assassin spent 3 rounds studying a target, they're next attack on it would deal Sneak Attack damage and could instantly kill the target. Now the studying had to be done out of combat, and while undetected by the target.
Because COX only has combat and doesn't really support out of combat activities Assassins Focus as proposed seems a natural way to integrate such a mechanic into the game.
Also Stalkers being a specialized fighter can quickly discern an enemies combat style, and set them up for an opening with 3 attacks on that enemy.
Focus is certainly thematic to Stalkers with these 2 views.I'm sure plenty of people can come up with other ways that Focus is thematic to Stalkers.
I also fail to see how Focus is being pasted from the other melee AT's.
Scrapper Crits are all about that lucky shot
Tanker Bruising/Gauntlet is nothing at all like Focus
The closest would be Brute Fury but I think Focus is different enough.
Yes they both boost damage, but the means and the control are entirely different -
Quote:I just found out today that Tanker's Chilling Embrace only debuff damage by 14%, while Stalker debuffs 15%? lol I thought Tanker's version is always better?
This makes Stalker Ice Armor even more attractive! Imagine 2 or more Ice Armors running around for massive slow/damage debuff.
Stalker's might have a slightly better debuff modifier than Tankers. I'm not sure they do but it would make sense if Stalker had the highest debuff modifier amongst the Melee ATs -
I like Hide criticals,I like them alot, however there are way too many things that go wrong with Hidden Crits. With Hidden being the primary way to get crits, it's very often that becuase of the games mechainics you don't get a crit at all.
I like that Stalker damage is generated from Crits, both controlled and a high chance for random. To me this shows the Stalker as a specialized fighter that is always looking for that weak spot and exploiting it once found.
Assassins Focus, to me, is a good way to bypass the mechanical problems of Hidden while still allowing the Stalker to be that specialized fighter.
As for the defense boost for being Hidden, I'm not entirely sure that it's granted off of Placates Hidden state, I think that defense boost actually only happens when the rehide timer ticks off.
I think Stalker mechanics, more often than not, just don't get along with the game mechanics. Because of that they're looking outside the Stalker mechanics so that we can have the damage output we were supposed to. -
While Lethal will usually end up doing less damage than other types, it's wrong to say too bad so sad for people that have already picked the powerset, especially since a lot of people have made their character and leveled it up several years ago when the game was very different and it didn't matter as much as it does now.
Using your analogy(though I'm not familiar with cars or racing)it would be as if the racers were told a large part of the race would be in urban areas so they make thier decision, show up for the race and find out it's really a Form 1 competition. -
It's certainly an interesting idea, but what about the other AT's?
You mention Scrappers in your post, but IIRC Scrapper SR was never changed to generate agro the way Brute and Tanker SR were. This leads me to believe that Scrapper SR is not intended to be drawing excess agro. As this change is based on agro it may not be appropriate to apply to Scrappers
For Brute and Tanker this makes plenty of sense since they already have a taunt aura added to Evasion.
Also what would you do for the Stalker version? -
Quote:And as far as military invasions are concerned, Longbow (a group that last I checked answers to the US government) has been fighting a guerilla campaign in the Rogue Isles since Recluse set up shop there. America has no business pointing fingers at Arachnos for terrorism as long as that's going on.
And here is the thing exactly.
I'm pretty sure Longbows presence in the Isles, actually grants a lot of leeway regarding Arachnos presence in Paragon.
IIRC Siren's Call is a similar situation to Nerva, where it's part of the place but not directly connected.
Faultline might be similar as well in that the area behind the Dam doesn't count.
Honestly though I don't think Recluse and Arachnos ever really got the chance to be involved in the Blueside storyline.
As for Galaxy City,I assume a state of emergency was declared there, UN had to call in some help to deal with the mess as Vanguard is stretched too thin dealing with the Rikti. So the Isles having some experience with Shivans answered the call. We now have a perfectly legit reason for Recluse to be there with Diplomatic protections applying.
As for Twinshot's Arc I've only run the first arc and from a story perspective Arachnos has no bearing on the plot.
So we have the STF, the Silos TF and Faultline as heroes dealing with an Arachnos threat from a story perspective(not counting paper missions). -
Looking the set over I see a possibilities
Rend Armor(as I mentioned above)
Titan Sweep(as Kioshi mentioned)
then we get speculative(and with the AS change in mind)
if Build Momentum becomes normal Build Up, AS can become a builder.
Follow Through would be the only candidate I could see without giving up any AoE.
Otherwise Whirling Smash seems like an option.
Seems like Follow Through or Rend Armor are the best bets though.
I don't see how Titan Sweep could be replaced considering it's the level 2 power and the other powers seem inappropriate for that level. -
Quote:Didn't realize Shatter Armor had -res on it. The reason i suggested Shatter Armor though is because that's a non momentum, non AoE attack. So swapping Shatter Armor for As would result in no loss of AoE.'Cause it sucks enough that Street Justice lost it's -Res power in the port to Stalker-dom. ^_^
If it's got -res though I'll have to think this over again. -
Well considering that this thread was a direct result of Synapse talking about Stalker changes for I22, I think they got the message.
-
Personally I think it would be great if at level 50 you got 5 enhancement slots.
Although they've never commented on it, I think part of the problem with the extra slots was where they tried putting them in.
having 5 at 50 would let you 6 slot your level 49 power pick if you wanted to, it would let you round out some of those powers you didn't get to 6 slot, and it would make 50 stand out.
Theoretically more slots at level 50 shouldn't involve the same problems that adding at 25,27,29 would but of course that's speculative on my part and the SCR applies. -

Quote:Didn't mean to start that argument up again sorry.Oh don't start that, somebody will come and say TW is not Stalkerish, then someone else will say that DB and Katana are not Brutish and it will be all doom again
(I'd have bought the powerset even thought I'd have to spend money for it and haven't been playing much lately if it were available to Stalkers btw)
So yeah Titan Weapons Pack now available for 0 Paragon Points.
Whatever your opinion on the pack it's silly not to take advantage of this deal.(unless of course you have no plans to get TW ever) -
the Real ripoff is that TW is only available on 3 of the 4 Melee ATs. While I "bought" the weapon skins, I'm not buying the set until it's available for all 4 Melee ATs.
While the timing is certainly questionable I wouldn't be surprised if the base models were finished and then it was decided that some extra models will be sold separately. Is that a removal of options? not necessarily. Either way we can't call it a money grab until the actual price gets listed. -
Quote:One of the main arguments against the first post of this thread, exemplified here, is that long-standing forum vendettas dictate that this game system should never be changed because heroes have had it too good for too long. Maybe you guys should take a look inward to see whether this is something worth harboring disdain over.
Long standing Vendetta has nothing to do with it.
If you read the rest of my post you'd see that I support Hero Patron Pools that are different from the Villain ones.
I'm against Heros getting the Villain pools without putting in the effort. It took years to get Patron Pools to be balanced against the APPs, for Heroes to simply get them by doing a singular arc feels wrong to me.
Probably because I'm too vested in what it took to get the changes,
however I fail to see how having Hero Pools isn't a fair compromise. -
Well Charged Armor(hero) doesn't require a story arc containing at least 1 EB(usually more) whereas Charged Armor(Patron) does.
As for the argument in general when Patron Pools were first introduced there was a huge amount of legitimate complaints and balance concerns that people brought up.
What did People that only played Blueside do? They responded with too bad so sad.
Now I'm against heroes getting direct access to Villain Patron Pools, however I will gladly support Heroic Patron Pools that are different from the villain ones. -
Quote:Man I missed out on that Beta! Was the 9% really that overpowered compared to all the aoe swirling death builds out there?
Well look at it this way one AS dealt 9% of the AV's total health.
2 would be 18, 3 brings it up to 27 etc.
now lets look at 8
8 AS is 72% of the Av's health
not even a team focused on buffs/debuff's and getting the Av's res and regen to the debuff cap, while damage capping themselves could take AV's down that fast. -
Quote:Out of curiosity how big is the -def debuff from weaken?I do think we're missing the original point of the OP:
The Empower and Weaken combos both have a primary benefit: Making the enemies easier to hit. However, you need to land a series of hits in a row to pull them off, thus showing you won't really benefit from the combos. (Empower does provide a +dmg, which will help, but the foe -Def and the Self +to-hit is a bit redundant if you were able to land the series).
Because if it's close to the -def from 3 Katana/Broadsword attacks then that would be fairly balanced as the combos are considered the secondary effect of the set. -
-
That's certainly a more understandable argument, however I'd say all the new Praetorian content combined is a bit worse than the constant invasions which lasted a couple of weeks instead of a couple of issues
-
Quote:The Rikti Content lasted forever. Praetoria's a fresh start. Especially since it's not a nemesis plot.
I fail to see how the Rikti content lasted forever. You have the pre i10 stuff, then you have Issue 10. At that point no new Rikti related content was added to the game but two Rikti related events stayed in the game(Mothership Raid and Zone invasions).
Compare to Praetoria we have the Portal Corp Arcs
then I18 and Going Rogue,
Then Issue 19 with Apex and Tin Mage,
then Issue 20 with BAF and Lambda,
then 20.5 with Keyes, and the Sutter TF
then 21 and Freedom with Underground,First Ward and an appearance in the Twinshot Arc
So how is it that the Rikti content lasted forever if it was contained to 1 update?
