Good morning everyone. The Grinch and kiss my DJ rear. And Puppeh, no stealing or no treats.
  10. What you need to realize is really City Of was written before the UAC, back when everyone tended to have full administrative rights.

I run into the UAC popping on me on any of the older software I run on Win 7 because I need to run them with Admin rights for them to work properly.

Newer software that is written without needing admin level rights works wothout the UAC popping up.

I personally have had a couple clients that the UAC showed something trying to run and they were ablet to prevent getting infected. Since then I would rather make an extra click than not.

    Virtue Down?

We have an event with 3 instances of pocket D on Virtue and it crashed on us.

We allowed weapons and shields because they're not distracting to the costume itself as well as they're more customizable than they've ever been. If you are wielding a bow, sword, claws, a shield, or whatever else. I can still see your costume and judge you on that. It is difficult to see a costume if there is a fire shield on that character, or any other power like that. But not only that, as you can see we took screen shots of all entries, and sometimes there are those powers that denature the screen shot because of their animation. (Electric is a good example)

Ok, I'm going to go out on a little rant as I do take a little bit of a tone in this. If there was not meant to be a tone in the reply, then I am sorry for making that assumption.

    1) Denature. I see one of the runners up with an Aura. The aura's use the same particle system as some of the powers, and can cause the exact same problems that you describe. Therefore in all fairness, they should not be allowed. (You should see how bright some people's arua's are)

    2) Last time I checked Weapons were power sets. Its a Dual Blade Power Set, a Sheild Power set. Someone can very easily, and have in the past, based their auras to be part of their costume.

The point being is that you really set up a double standard with the way you have explained yourself there.

I think the biggest problem that people have had is the fact that some of these rules were not stated in the original announcement or rules. Its a matter of consistency to allow a fair and equal opportunity for all.

Virtue as a server had been lukewarm to cold of P.E.R.C. from day one because of the way things have been presented to us by P.E.R.C. We have seen people try to act all overly important, and not very conciliatory.

Ice Knight put things in a very nice and succulent way in his post, and I am very appreciative of the hard work the PERC team put into this and the events they run.

To come back over the top with an explanation that at points seems to contradict itself in reasoning and logic does not help the situation overall. I know that we are all human and make mistakes (try listening to one of my shows and you will hear tons of them), but how you handle criticism is at least as important as what you have done right.

I look forward to seeing what P.E.R.C. can come up with next, as community projects are what make this game great. Good luck to you all.

Just to clairfy, I wasn't complaining about the judging, but with the way this game works, Judges not being from Virtue is not a big thing really. It is easy enough to get around if You are say from Freedom and you are going to judge on virtue to tell a friend on Freedom to enter the contest with a character on Virtue.

I don't believe this has happened, but there is the opportunity there for something like this to take place, and something you all should take a look at.

I think overall you ran a good contest, I just notice pitfalls such as the whole No Power rule which was not stated in the original post. Its all small stuff that gets blown out of proportion.

FYI, I would make a suggestion of removing that rule for next year outside of Shadowfall and Steamy mist only because of the color customizations that can be done with it, or else not allow the shields to be fair. Conceptual costumes can include anything that is changeable at ICON. Just a thought.

I like to believe that is why they won, but without seeing actual judges scorecards etc, there will always be people who claim that a Costume contest is rigged.

Unfortunately there is never a way to prove it one way or another, so the argument goes on. Such is the nature of things.

I was wondering the same thing, but then I thought, "Well its so people who don't read the forums can be in the contest." Then I see the winners posting on the forums and wonder again.

Also, I have to wonder what Level characters some are. I know a few of the winners and they are normal Virtue players, but if some of the winners are too low a level, then you have to ask if they weren't made by people from other servers just to win the contest here cause their friends were the judges, and they didn't register or post here so they would not be found out.

I am not saying this is the case, just a set of possibilities.

I seriously would like a few more rules laid out before hand next year including a ruling on Powers in use, and a level clarification. I personally lthink that you must be over level 20 to enter into a contest like this, but that is just my opinion.

Needless to say, congrats to those who did win.
  19. Ok, lets try this...

Pocket D is what you make of it. Its a nice spot to meet people and maybe make some friends for RPing with while doing some RP stuff. The Cape shows are usually pretty normal outside of Coz and Myself (yes I tend to be a little bit on the silly side, imagine).

There are still a lot of active RP SGs out there, both Red and Blue side. Some of them will post here, some won't. The Cape also runs ads for SGs looking for members.

Then there are events such as the Winter Gala coming up which represent prime opprotunities to RP. I also find some nice RP pickup groups.

Its there, you just need to make it happen from your end and not give up.

Good Morning everyone! Speaking of Caroling, tonight The Cape is doing an Odd Holiday's night. Carols, yeah, but maybe not in the way you remember.
  21. COngrats to the winners. Nice to see a couple of names I recognize up there.

Now I can go back to being the ultimate loser. *Stays away from ICON as much as possible*

    Windows 7 issue

You are running CoH as Administrator right?

Sorry to ask such a basic question, but I know I tend to overlook the obvious at times.

Also do you have antivirus/firewall software running? If so try disabling them and running the game as admin
