This part is incredibly helpful for a new issue I've been keeping an eye on since the last Live patch.
  2. It's very likely there's a problem with the Patch Server right now. Don't let it try and patch your Training Room install tonight, because if it does, it's quite possible you WILL be re-downloading everything once it's fixed.
  3. Actually...there are now THREE total complaints about this issue since this morning's patch, and none have to do with packet loss. I'm going to run a test and see if this needs to be escalated.

EDIT: There seems to be an issue with occasional connection saturation during zoning since this morning's patch. Hopefully it's a back-end issue that can be fixed easily. If you have a low-bandwidth connection that can cause your client to stop responding so the server disconnects you.
  4. That actually happens to me on the Windows client when I'm getting high packet loss.

Next time zoning seems a lot slow, type /netgraph 1 and see if there are lots or red or yellow spikes (/netgraph 0 turns it off). If you have them, send a /petition - NC Support is currently working on an issue with packet loss and lost connections.

If that's not it...how much RAM do you have installed? Are you running anything in the background?

P.S. The "you are already logged in" message is normal recovering after a crash or freeze.
  5. As Doc noted above, there's also an issue where the mouse coordinates will reset without warning. This causes your character or the camera angle to abruptly change direction/orientation, or trays/windows to abruptly leap to the center or the left of the screen.

P.S. This is not present in the Live client yet, as the Mac patch hasn't been published from the Training Room yet.

Unfortunately no one here can help you with billing issues. According to the support page, they have a contact number:

    1-512-225-6359
    Mon-Fri
    12pm to 5pm, Central

Also, I believe their email is support@ncsoft.com, and they have a support form here:

    http://help.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/ncsof...nduser/ask.php
  7. Ok so you *can* contact the patch server...

Let's try and hit multiple other possibilities at once:

Start up in Safe Mode first to see if anything loaded at startup may be causing problems:

    1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
    2. Press the power button.
    3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
    4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).

Then try to launch CoH Test Server client again and see if it works. If it does, then something being loaded at startup is causing a problem with CoH.

After that, restart again normally (no shift key) to load everything normally again.

If that doesn't work, try typing this in Terminal: "dscacheutil -flushcache" - and then also launch Safari, and select Empty Cache from the application menu.

And if all the above fail: There is a rare issue with Transgaming's Cider that can produce that specific error (in your console log, the one about 'macdrv') on very specific versions of MacOS (10.5.7/10.5.8), only on Macbooks. You might have better luck with Snow Leopard instead. In fact, if the bug isn't fixed before Live date, I'll probably start recommending Snow Leopard with it just because of the possibility of that happening, since it's such a pain to track down.

Patch servers are in different locations.
  9. It looks like you have a network issue, for some reason the Updater is unable to reach the IP 216.107.254.201 (where the training room patch server is located). If you leave PING running long enough it would say host unreachable (mine says host timeout, which is normal).

Next open Terminal again and type "traceroute cohtestupdate.coh.com". Post the results here, except skip the part where it shows trace steps with asterisks - that part is normal at a certain point. If the traceroute never runs (shows zero steps) that confirms you have a network issue. Call your ISP and see if they can help with that, and also update your NC Support ticket online.

Is that all it says even if you leave it running?
  11. Possible new Critical Issue:

Console log message: "Could not load graphics driver 'macdrv'" symptom leading to CoH failing to load on recent Macbooks.

A thread for another game using the Cider engine outlines it in here. I'm putting one Mac user here through steps to see if their issue is the same or not.
  12. More questions:

    1. Is that where the console log ends or is there more to it?

    2. If you open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal) and type "ping cohtestupdate.coh.com" and hit Return. What does it say when you do that?

    3. Is your MacOS X system set to use U.S. English?

    4. And lastly, have you tried this: Go to Users > (yourusername) > Library > Preferences and throw out "City of Heroes Training Room Preferences" (or something similar, the name varies). Does that allow the CoH client to launch?

Open Console (in Applications > Utilities) and post the last few lines of text in there after CoH stops responding.
  14. - CRITICAL: DO NOT turn on 3D sound. It works great, until you try and log off. Then the game will freeze, and you may have to forcibly restart. The setting CANNOT BE TURNED OFF ONCE IT'S TURNED ON - any attempt to do so will cause the game to freeze, forcing you to restart. The only current solution is to trash your game preferences (it's in Users > youraccount > Library > Preferences > City of Heroes Training Room Preferences). FIXED IN 9/16 PATCH

    - CRITICAL: Saved powerset colors files will NOT show up in the list until you exit CoH completely and log in again. Note to devs: This worked properly in early closed beta, something changed and broke it. STILL AN ISSUE IN 9/16 PATCH, except in 9/16 patch the saved colors will NEVER load even if you restart the CoH client. The costumes, however, work correctly.

    - The Cmd-Q hotkey to quit the game or updater no longer works.

    - Remaining issues involving lag in certain zones.

    - Remaining issues with occasional crashing.

    - FSAA, advanced effects disabled.

    - Tiny avatars in Mission Architect don't animate.

    - Setting water quality to high on Macs with an ATI video card causes windows to smear.

Please add to this list of you find or can remember any more. This is posted here instead of the beta forum because of the critical issues noted at the top - if I16 goes live real soon, I want to make sure people see those.

Hmm...what does the application look like when it says it's not responding? Does it not appear, or does it show the updater window and freeze, or do you get past the updater and it's the game loading that doesn't respond?
  16. That sounds like something you should email Support about - probably it's related to that corrupted cache issue again. I really need to get that workaround stickied somehow...
  17. NC Support has a procedure involving clearing your caches. E-mail them for instructions.

...and as soon as I find that document again I'll see if I can get the forum mods to sticky it.
  18. Do you have the same problem on the Training Room?

That's because there's really not much change in the Windows API's from XP to Vista. Software designers for Windows tend to shoot for the lowest possible platform (windows xp) because of the large number of people who refuse to upgrade. Mac users tend to stay closer to the latest version.
  20. The CoH Mac client actually requires MacOS 10.5.7 at least. If you're running Leopard you can upgrade to a suitable version by simply running Software Update.

Also, Snow Leopard is only $30, and plenty are in stock at Apple stores and Amazon. It takes about 45 minutes to install. EDIT: If you're using Leopard you can use the $30 upgrade. Tiger users need the $169 box set with iLife. I read that the $30 one might work with Tiger anyhow, but I can't verify that.

If you're using an EFI-X or Chameleon based "hackintosh" to play, both will support 10.5.7 and 10.5.8, so don't worry about upgrading that far. Snow Leopard is currently not supported by either of those solutions.

While I don't like copies of MacOS X hacked to run on any PC, they are up to at least 10.5.7 now, and some of them supply much smaller updates you can install instead of doing a full install.

Though you shouldn't be playing on a work computer, if you really feel you need to and you're forbidden to software update it, send me a PM and I'll determine if you can use an *UNSUPPORTED* workaround. It's at your own risk - if you do that, CoH may crash horribly and NC Support won't help you. It also probably won't work in Tiger, but might in earlier Leopard versions.
  21. Way up in the upper left corner you'll see the Apple menu (it looks like the Apple logo). Pull that down and select About This Mac, it'll tell you what version of MacOS X you're using.

At 3 months ago, you're most likely using at least 10.5.7, which is fine. Snow Leopard is $30 though, so it's not a huge barrier to upgrading.
  22. Just tested:

I'm getting 30-45 seconds into zones (45 sec from Oroborous into Atlas Park, 35 seconds Atlas to Steel) on Live and Test both, and 15 seconds into Oroborous.

It's a little longer than it was, but not hugely. Did you check to see if you have red spikes on your Netgraph (use /netgraph 1 in game)? That would indicate connection issues, which would slow down zone loads significantly.
  23. Weird, I just timed mine, and it's about 35-40 seconds from first double-click (that includes the time it takes for the Updater to launch and to click past the agreement).

Is anything else besides CoH launching slower? You might have startup items or extensions that aren't compatible with Snow Leopard running.
  24. I've noticed they're a little longer, but nothing scary long. If you just installed Snow Leopard you might have Spotlight eating up CPU.
