  1. It most certainly does.

You might have to adjust some settings so they're not turned *all* the way up, but you'll definitely get the shadows and reflections.

To fix "Lag in high-texture zones like Pocket D, SG bases, RWZ base, Arachnos Maps, and the Midnighter Club", turn off Geometric Buffering.
That's a REALLY good find. I didn't even think about that switch because it doesn't really seem to do anything normally - but upon looking it up, it makes sense. I'm going to do further testing (to make sure it doesn't do something worse long-term) and I'll add it to the guide if it works out.

You don't need a laptop cooler - the aluminum body *is* a laptop cooler, and with far greater surface area than any 3rd party cooler on the market.

In that case I would contact both NCSoft Support (help.ncsoft.com) and Steam support, wherever they are. Since they have a partnership, somewhere in the middle, someone will figure out there's a problem.

That's an interesting clue - what resolution are you playing in windowed mode? What resolution is your display's native? If they're a different *aspect ratio* that may cause mouse selection issues.

Both, actually. The Training Room client had a few small fixes not present in the Live client that, I guess, weren't significant enough to warrant a full publish to Live (it may be by now, I haven't tested that specifically), but that were causing some people issues.

I forgot the two most obvious questions though: 1. Running anything in the background? And 2. Do you have FSAA turned on?

Also one more test to try: While the mouse is messed up, try minimizing CoH (Cmd-Tab or Cmd-Return and move the window out of the way) and use the mouse in another application like Safari. Does it exhibit the same symptoms?

Follow the instructions in this post: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...6&postcount=25

Whether it works or not, send a support request to help.ncsoft.com for tracking in case this is a larger issue.

The /reloadgfx command still works, but you need some practice knowing when to use it. Generally, you use it *after* zoning, but you have to get the timing right in knowing when it just starts to feel a little more laggy than usual. I can play CoH on the Mac for hours that way without a crash.

Eventually, though, the swap memory leak catches up and crashes the client - /reloadgfx just delays it quite a bit. The issue is on the bug list, hopefully at the top.

    Connecting Issue

Did all of you send support requests yet?
  10. There seem to be quite a few problems with the patch server lately - if you leave it running overnight, it'll probably sense a decreased server load and speed up considerably.
  11. I suspect this issue is related to the same thing that makes the icons in the base editor corrupted (since that seems to cause a crash eventually too). I would guess it's an issue with loading small bitmaps properly in the Mac version.

Sadly though it all works properly for me (even with vidiotmaps). I even tried tossing out the prefs and starting over to see if maybe it was an issue with new installs, but that didn't corrupt anything either.

My suggestion would be to send a support ticket so the issue can be tracked and so the engineers can figure out which configurations have this problem and why.
  12. Did those of you who are having Vidiotmaps problems upgrade the maps from an older Vidiotmaps or install them new?
  13. I've learned that apparently Steam is not working at all this weekend. Hopefully they'll fix the problem soon, but at least you can use the standalone CoH to play in the meantime.
  14. To actually get into the game even if you have the updater connect issue, follow Fitzsimmons' instructions above for PC.

    For Mac:

    1. Open Terminal located in Applications > Utilities.
    2. Type one of the two following commands:

If your City of Heroes data files are located in City Of Heroes.app > Contents > Resources > transgaming > Program Files > City of Heroes:

    /Applications/City\ of\ Heroes.app/Contents/MacOS/cider -- cityofheroes.exe -project coh

If your City of Heroes data files are located in City Of Heroes.app > Contents > Resources > transgaming > coh:

    /Applications/City\ of\ Heroes.app/Contents/MacOS/cider -- cityofheroes.exe -project coh

That stuff I know about, but unfortunately I can't reset the ISP's DNS - the updater issues are pretty consistent on both Mac and PC, even after reboots.

Right now I'm bypassing the updater entirely when it's stuck, and I've contacted support. It seems like Time Warner is blocking something at its Chicago node that's preventing the updater from working, but due to the dynamic nature of traffic routing I can't really say for sure.
  16. I was seeing an intermittent patch server connection issue that seems to have become full time now (both on the Mac and on the PC, so computer configuration is not the problem).

Already notified support of the issue, and ran a traceroute. It seems the traffic is being stopped en route to the CoH patch server.

I'm just wondering how many others are experiencing the issue (if you are, contact support as well) and which ISP you're using. I'm using Time Warner's Roadrunner, so if a lot of other people are using the same one I'm giving them a call.

    Connecting Issue

I am currently experiencing a connection issue that seems to be caused by a network issue somewhere between here and the CoH patch server. Support has been notified.

While I wait, I can gather this information: Those of you having connecting issues, what ISP are you using?

    Connecting Issue

I'm keeping an eye on this issue - it seems to happen around the same time every night for about an hour. No idea what's causing it yet, but it seems to be some kind of connectivity problem.

I actually know how you can make smartphone apps available without actually developing them - it involves creating an API for smartphone developers to use. Things like being able to read in-game email (but not send for obvious reasons), see if your friends are online, etc. PM me if you want more details, I don't really want to post something long and derail the discussion here on a fairly minor point.

    Base Graphics

There is a Mac issue that makes base editor icons appear corrupted at the moment. It's been reported already, hopefully it'll be fixed soon.
  21. Are you seeing built-in maps instead of vidiotmaps or is there some other issue?

Maybe I should re-download the maps and see if the current ones are different from the ones I'm using...
  22. I've determined that the corrupted icons are linked to memory allocation errors - so it's no wonder the base editor crashes eventually. I have that on my very large master bug list though, so hopefully it'll be fixed at some point.
  23. The "city" folder only has one file, but there should be multiple folders. The one called "static" contains many many maps.
  24. Weird...I just logged in to make sure mine's working, and it is (first zone I logged into had vidiomaps info all over its map). Is there a possibility you got an incomplete map set somehow?
