  1. You know, this will work on a great many other web based Bulletin Boards. Anything that uses BBCode, more or less! Not just UBB.threads, but stuff like SMF or FUDForum, too.

You may have created an app with the potential to become more popular than you realized!
  2. I remember my folks had parakeets. They were kept in the same place where my dad would often do his arts and crafts works. One of the tools he has is a small roller that tended to make a distinct squeaking sound. One of the parakeets started mimicking that squeak. It was cute.

Didn't I hear somewhere that birds are starting to mimic cell phone rings in place of their natural calls? Like, that might be one of humankind's everlasting legacies or something.

I'd like a kind of 'battle simulator' in there. Where you can say, test your hero/villain against 12 Fake Nemesis at once, or Lord Recluse and Statesman against you at the same time. Or 30 level 53 Dark Ring Mistresses.

No debt or rewards, just a pleasant way to test yourself against PvE NPCs.

The secret mission you can unlock would involve one of those "holodeck disaster" type stories, where you have to go into a malfunctioning simulation, nullify the now very real threats inside, find the glowie and shut down the simulation so it can be fixed. Or hmm, no, that's how you get access to the simulator in the first place! The techie in control of it is so grateful for your help that he lets you use it whenever you want from then on. Yeah. There you go.

"Boring" is a subjective term. Your question is then ill-formed and insinuates a certain level of self-centeredness.

If you are finding the game too rote and predictable, you have probably played it too much and are now expecting more from it than it was ever able to provide. You likely just need a break from it!

Stamina is basically a prerequisite on all of my builds, including those with Quick Recovery. Anyone who doesn't take it, and expects the team to compensate should have their harddrive melted, and their subscription account be Generic'd, along with all of their characters.

My WP/DB tank's got 4.10% end/sec recovery currently. I wish I could get it higher!

Doesn't take any skill to fill.

But you do need skills to grill!
  7. I don't suppose it's occurred to anyone that they could add a "favorite server" option, that is automatically selected whenever you log in, to save you the step of choosing which server to play on?

You can still press the back button and select another server, of course.

    Schrodinger's Zone.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    ...that would be totally awesome.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's a very small, square zone. It has one catgirl in it.

    ...Or perhaps, one catgirl corpse.

    Schrödinger's Catgirl

(I actually Googled for that, and it led me right back to this game! Funny...)

Where's your proof? Let's see it!

Perhaps you are dreaming that you are who you think you are, and that you're sitting at a computer reading this thread. Perhaps you are something else when you wake up, but you won't remember that until you do.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    No.

    [/ QUOTE ]

An entirely subjective and self serving reply if there ever was one!

I am ashamed that so many people think the possibility that:
    1) A person, solely through their own ignorance and stupidity,
    2) who could harm only one self,
    3) who might complain in a blatantly and obviously stupid manner

is a good reason not to give an OPTION.

It's an option. It harms no one but the incredibly and ridiculously stupid. The only arguments against this are "people might whine" and "I don't care about this option."

Damn. I think you guys are incompetent. Personally, I don't care about this feature. It doesn't do anything for me personally. But shooting it down for that reason or "some idiot might be an idiot" is simply lunacy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You know, as I'm all for the legalization of [censored], gambling and [censored] all around, I think I might be with you on this.

By the same reasoning, I think we should go back to seatbelts being optional and not mandatory as well.

    Dare to be stupid!

My analogy has always been... What if we are simply babies, dreaming this dream. We are still in our cribs, have yet to wake and this will all have been some wink or glimpse by some spark of imagination. Thats why babies cry.

    You are false data!

    [ QUOTE ]
Another question for you.. do other people exist if you're not interacting with them? For all you.. well, for all I know, I suppose, you're all merely part of a complex computer simulation and when I'm not interacting with aspects of it, it shuts down the sensory aspects of them and runs the systems as data.

    OoooOOOOooooOOOOooooo *finger waggle*

    [/ QUOTE ]

That depends on which form of existence you imply. Do they exist as people somewhere on this earth? Does their character exist? etc.. The answer to both are yes. You can go by get_global_name or get_local_name to prove someone exists whether you can talk to them or not. You can do searches and come up with results that they exist whether you interact or not. As far as do people exist in reality? go to Myspace or any other site and you will find tons of people who exist regardless of whether one chooses to interact with them or not.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This means that K.I.T.T., Doc Brown and Fifi LaFume really, actually exist? Wow!

I think it does, because Zombie/Rikti raids can still hit the empty zones. THey don't usually stick around very long, though.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ahh, but what about if the events don't happen? What about zones like Faultline, the PVP zones, the Hive, etc?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Then refer to this

    [/ QUOTE ]

So it is just unseen code being run when no one is there to see it? This implies a transformation of the code into something else when it is being seen through the game client.

  15. Oh man this isn't happening, he only thinks it's happening...
  16. That's because no matter where you go, there you are.
  17. So now we know what happened! At some point in the past, a huge burst of gamma rays hit multiple clutches of guinnea eggs, and the ones that didn't die immediately were all mutated into a slightly different bird which we now call chickens. And it turned out they were able to reproduce with each other.

And that's why Adamastor can exist in an empty Dark Astoria!

    There were eggs before chickens.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Probably.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Then what laid the eggs?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Proto-chicken

    [/ QUOTE ]

Exactly. Or, if you prefer, Reptiles, Amphibians, Fish, Insects... all orders of life much older than birds and all of which are known to lay eggs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The question "which came first, the chicken or the egg", it's implicit the question presumes a CHICKEN egg.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That implies that at some point in the past, a chicken was hatched from the egg of a different animal, albeit likely related. But a housecat cannot spontaneously give birth to a tiger cub (naturally, that is!).

Which line of reasoning are you struggling with? The mutation of proto-chicken into chicken or the ontological arguement of potential chicken to actual chicken?

So which came first? The potential chicken or the potential chicken's egg?

But this also implies a type of punctuated evolution of the sort I have never heard of before. I do not think the first chicken hatched from the egg of an ancestor of the guinnea hen.

Probably, if we're talking from an evolutionary perspective.

But ontologically, Chickens come first. Because the egg is only a potential chicken and a chicken is an actual chicken and since actuality preceeds potentiality, the chicken comes first.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But that chicken hatched from an egg, didn't it?

    how very Zen.
I prefer the classics though: if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No. It makes the air vibrate a lot, yes, but sound is air vibrations converted into sensory information. So no listener, no sound.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wait, does that mean that there was no sound anywhere before there were people around to hear it?

    [/ QUOTE ]
There have been a plethora of creatures that could hear sound before there were humans. There have been creatures that could sense sound waves even if they couldn't hear them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's just sidestepping the issue. Because now I can ask, "well then what about before life began on this planet or anywhere else in the universe? Was there no sound? Was there no light, until there was an eye with which to see it?"
