What the heck is going on with the war walls in the new DA? It looks like the energy barriers have been replaced with hell fire.

I can get all that and not leave the city. Of course, I live in a pretty danged big city.

Quote:White Castle? You wanna good burger, you go to In-N-Out or Fatburger. But I don't think either of those chains exist on the east coast. I guess that's why I'll never live there!Quick-burgers are pretty hideous in any case (think White Castle, minus any final vestiges of flavour), and frankly food is NOT supposed to be that unpleasant dark-blue colour. Yick.
Quote:Oh, and if you're in France and eating burgers, even the indigenous variety... WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU THINKING?? Heave a brick and you'll at least hit two friteries and a crepe van... -

I'd really just like to have my electric blaster with Targeting Drone and Cloaking Device from the Devices secondary, and all the rest from the Electricity Manipulation secondary.

I'm more of a John Lennon fan than Paul McCartney*, but that was the first song to come to my mind when I read what Zwillinger posted.
(In my personal order of preference of their styles: John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr; But that's like, a 0.00001 difference between any two of them, because they are all so awesome!) -
Considering that in order to solo either of those, you'd have to be able to be at more than one place at the same time, my guess is that they'd never allow it.

As far as old computing terms go, there was something called an M.O.B., or "Moveable Object Block". Sprites are a type of MOB, for example. This is what some older gamers might be referring back to when using the term. But I couldn't speak for all of them.

Quote:So, you're saying that you and the doc are French. There's nothing wrong with that!I think it's giving them undue credit to call them "supporters." The reason that people like me and you don't use "toon" or other sillyspeak is because we think about words and their meaningfulness, maybe a little too much. Many of the people you're arguing with Just Don't Care, and that's not the same thing as Support. Not in the apathetic sense, but in a more practical sense that I don't think I'd have the heart to wage war on them for. If a spoon was closer than a fork for their eggs, they'd probably just grab the spoon. Special people like me and you go looking for the fork. Who's more of a nutcase? Like you, I've never used "toon", and I've been playing MMORPGs since November of 1997. The only difference between us is, I only hold myself to my standards, whereas you appear to lord yours over everyone else. The problem with doing that is, you'll begin to veer away from Blueside territory into Coleside territory, if you know what I mean.
Just learn how to keep your fussy little noses out of other people's business. Well, at least you have anyways. ;D -
The Furry Phalanx? It could be CoH's version of the Zoo Crew.

Quote:Sounds like what he's asking for is what's called a 10 foot UI. But you're right, it's unnecessary here. He can just adjust the default UI of the game to suit his setup. Why on earth would the Devs waste time with some kind of HDMI GUI when you could just mess around with your window scales?

You know, I suddenly wonder if we can't use this more to our advantage, especially with arch villains. Too bad most of them have enough knockback protection to not get stuck on a wall.
-
Is that still a "thing"? I thought people generally got over that brand of silliness years ago.

BTW, it's "ROTFL". Stands for "Rolling On The Floor, Laughing". Over the years, the T has slowly been becoming more absent. Yes, people are so lazy that they'll even shorten things that were already shortened!

LOL u win! ;D
A nice anecdote I have that relates to this subject:
A few years ago, I was in a PUG doing some TF or another, I forget which one now. Everyone was typing in Internet shorthand in team chat. The phrase "lrn 2 play" kept coming up over and over again. In the same amount of time it took for them to type that out, I finally came back with "learn how to type". The time between that and the line I'd previously entered was short enough to confirm that even with their shorthand, I typed faster than they did.
They were duly impressed. -

Well like I implied before, she's employing tautological rhetoric and using circular reasoning in her arguments, which pretty much makes her opinions on the subject rather dismissible. My concern is that her opinion points to a rather dubious way of thinking; a way of thinking that humans have been guilty of throughout history. Up until now, we've only hurt each other that way (because some people insist that only others like themselves are worth considering as persons). But I fear that if things keep going the way they are, it might end up getting a lot worse.

Quote:All lower life forms on this planet also only ever make preprogrammed responses to stimuli. We usually call it instinct. Humans also have this sort of thing, though most people would not use that as an argument against our possessing free will.I think she was trying to say that robots will only ever make preprogrammed responses. Which is a fair assumption if thought about in the broader sense, and if you are only looking at what is available commericially currently. But I have more faith in the future, considering much of the stuff we have available now was only science fiction just 20 years ago (some only 10 years ago).
What CC is doing is akin to seeing the first single celled creatures to finally develop from the primordial soup and exclaiming that nothing will ever come of that, and that it would never develop any further than that. -
Quote:If you'd read through the entire thread, you'd have noticed that I already mentioned that RPG, and I even made a link to it's entry on Wikipedia."Toon" is the name of a table-top roleplaying game published by Steve Jackson Games that first came out in 1984 (Roger Rabbit was released in 1988). It's much like the old D&D roleplaying games, except the conceit is your characters are animated cartoon characters.
So the term "toon" applied to characters people play antedates the movie by at least four years. -
Quote:To say that such technology will never improve from now until the end of time (or at least until humans go extinct, technological singularities notwithstanding) is a rather bold statement to make. No credible scientist or engineer would tell you that, because they know better than to make such absolute statements with such sweeping judgments. That is, they actually use their brains to reason these things out. I'd like to know what makes her think she's such an absolute authority on the subject to be able to tell us that in no uncertain terms, this is never going to happen. Perhaps she was hit by some divine revelation? With GG it's hard to say for certain. It's clear she often likes to play "Devil's Advocate" to help keep threads going. But based on many of her past responses she may actually believe that the current state of androids and AI in 2012 will never change or improve. She firmly knows what she knows and can't seem to envision things being different in the future. Sometimes blind naivety and stubbornness can mimic trolling given the right circumstance... *shrugs*
