Melee resists vs to hit debuffs (especially from their APPs), mixed in with the ability for many to mez you perhaps is being underated, throw in Rage if they are SS... Melee does not want to outrun you. They want to get in close on their terms but they don't run.

But it is quite the road before you ever get to that point. I mean, before you start to scourge them, you got to survive their attack. I don't see how being a storm helps you survive vs melee, unless they can't kite you or they can't mez you. If you are taunted, you got to get in closer if you want to hit melee, and with hurricane down... If they can do that vs you, it should be an uphill battle for you. That's what I am talking about.

    [QUOTE=black_barrier;2435273]Ok here we go, my experience so far on my corruptors;
hopefully this will provide a few ideas.

    - rad/storm - constantly wish it were an elec/storm, but shreds through melee more reliably than any of my other toons. psi/em and sonic/ems destroy it because my build is not as good as it should be; it can stand up nicely to a fire/em though. pretty strong toon overall.

Really? Are you referring to melee's who can't kite you (i.e. Spines or SS toons) or who can't mez you? The reason is because when I fight stormies, I am the one looking to kite them and only move in once in a while and preferably when Hurricane is down. I don't hang around LS or tornado. And with taunt, I can kite with a little edge over them.

    @Antigonus,

On that same note, an MM, /thermal is a beast. In fact, if an elec/thermal faces off with a /thermal MM, the MM is the only one playing for a win in that match. So, elec/thermal might not be able to beat everything. Also, I have seen a good illusion/emp beat elec/thermal. With recovery aura, hib, geas, blues, and pets out, the ill/emp was the one with the initiative in that fight and he earned a good victory.

The main thing I'm looking for is something that won't take a lot of influence to build, (maybe something that will do well with just normal lvl 50 enhancements.. SO's I think they are called) but will still do good in PvP zones and duels.

I was reading that MA/Regen is pretty nice for starters, but I was also wondering about Dark, BS, or Fire.

    Thanks for reading.

I would suggest a melee toon for you. It's a solid choice for a 'starter' build. Also since you are new, the learning curve for playing melee well might not be as sharp as playing a range toon. I suggest you try a WP/SS/earth tank or an SS/WP/Mako brute. WP is, IMO, simpler to play than regen. That helps if you are new to PvP. The only heal you need to manage is aid self. I prefer the brute, especially if you are going to 1 vs 1 in arena because of Fury. You can 1 vs 1 ranged (except thermals might pwn you) toons and have a good chance of beating anyone of them, and you can stand your ground vs any melee (except fire melee since it has a great DoT to stop your aid self).

It might not be as expensive to build as other powerset combination. Fighting range toons, you need to learn how to use Taunt well, mostly timing. Timing your mezzes to drop offensive toggles also is good to do vs ranged toons.

If you are too new, I would not recommend a regen for you. Managing and timing your regen powers is the key to being successful with it. That may not simplify your overall learning process in PvP. I would recommend a simpler power set. That is why I would recommend WP, and perhaps Invul, but I prefer WP for you because of easier task to manage endurance with WP, compared to Invul, especially with Rage crashes.

    I hope that helps.
  5. I know this thread is old, but I saw it after doing a search for something else. I am glad this issue was brought up again.

I had argued back when i13 was on that Defense was not broken and elusivity was not broken. I was not alone, many others were saying the same thing, but it was not nearly as much as the other players crying or pleading that defense was broken. As Spiritchaser had put it, back then, too many players wanted the Devs to hand them on a platter the solution to deal with defense based players.

Yep, too many toons had builds for +rech, hit points, and maybe even +dmg. I had decided to post reviews based on duels I had. I racked up over 100 duels/team events after i13 but before i14 launched. After posting examples of Broad sword /regen scrappers, katana /regen scrappers, spines/ scrappers, blasters (fire, psy, even sonic), corrupters, and lets not even mention MMs who had beaten solid defense toons, it seemed that they were still in denial about exagerating Defense/elusivity.

I also wrote about specific examples of SS/ defense vs SS/ resist toons. I used an extreme example since Rage is a great tool for +to hit. The point was and still is that a defense based toon is facing a difficult battle vs a resist toon. The resist toon enjoys the advantage in that fight. Even when facing toons with Rage and I noticed there were not hitting as much as I expected, I would ask them how much global acc they had. Many did not even know till I asked them, and that's a clear sign that they did not plan their toon with global acc / elusivity in mind. Some did know but had given numbers of +16- +30, few were above +40 global acc.

Now I feel the majority of the people got what they wanted, a solution to defense on a platter, and given to them by the Devs instead of them readjusting their builds. I know Arcanaville had posted arguments of why elusivity was OP'd. At the same time I asked myself how much is Arcana PvPíng. By the sheer quantity of duels I had, and PvP events I had been in, I could tell it was not luck that many players were reliably hitting defense based toons and enough to produce solid results. I remember just predicting some fights between Forts and Spines/ scrappers who I knew had great global acc numbers. Not too hard to see Scrappers were hitting the Fort at full or near full dmg since there was no dmg mitigation when the Scrapper was getting through and Phase had already been used by the Forts.

Many practical results from different builds and sets motivated me to feel it was the builds from previous issues or the inclination to favor certain bonuses in builds or perhaps underestimating how important global accuracy now is as the culprit is a lot cases, if not all related to defense/elusivity. I remember some matches players telling me I was impossible to hit... yet, I had to hit hibernate two times in match. Strange but true that some players dont hit as often as they wish and feel they are not hitting. Defense is a gamble and wether you win or lose should be the result of the gamble. Nerf elusivity or defense and you tend to tilt the odds a bit too much vs defense.

Now, after seeing a lot on the forums and in practice, it is clear defense needs to be revisited and changes need to reflect current practical results, and not reflect posts by peeps who just beg for Devs to hand them the solutions to their PvP problems at times when they could readjust their builds.

Yah, back i4... Fire/ then, Fire/ now, right. Like you said, a lot of things have changed. I want to see proof now of his tank doing this.

Funny, I have called out, in-game, other tankers who have said they solo AVs. I got toons with AVs in the arcs. I have only had one tanker do it with me watching. That was a shield/dark. I think it's fun to call out peeps on things like these, since I have seen most AV soloist fail.

So, the challenge still stands for him. Show it or it did not happen, to me, at least.

I'm not denying the fact that Fire/Kins are great for farming. Not many builds can farm well with just SO's. Though the 2 toons listed above both outdamage my Fire/Kin.
I had been reading this thread and I was jut hoping someone would bring villains to the table.

I wholy agree with this. My decked out SS/Fire brute PWNS. I know what the poster I quoted feels like. In fact, I do not doubt that villain players with decked out specialty brute builds for farming will tell you they can compete with the best of them.

Just recently, in Freedom server, I was out doing some mish's in my arc when I see the following "LF anyone to duel farm...." , from a "super pimped-out" Fire/Kin (according to him)... then--and I can't remember how it got to this--but he stated that he challenged anyone to outspeed him and out farm him. At this point, sensing the arrogance, I felt the urge to try to humble this man down a bit since I was getting a little annoyed. I put on broadcast "I would put my SS/Fire/Elec brute any day of the week over your Fire/Kin, and on maps of lvl 54's all Bosses and LTs--NO MINIONS." He said, he would crush my brute.

I simply said I would see him in RWZ, in AE building and we could do it. We had witnesses who wanted to watch. Let me shorten this a bit. My brute was ahead of the Fire/Kin in the farm and I would have finished faster than him, but he died. When you die, there is no point to continue as the advantage in time would be too much. I never brag about my brute being able to outperform anyone, except in this win. I won but I did not rub it in. He was a gentleman and gave me my props.

Full bar of FURY is a HUGE damage bonus, and FURY belongs to brutes only. Double stacked rage on a brute with full fury, then you ad Fiery Embrace... the numbers are RIDICULOUS for brutes damage... 454 dmg on a lvl 54 boss from KO blow... is SICK, notice boss, not minion or LT. Foot stomp at 260 dmg or so to the group of lvl 54s. The insane amount of damaga of burn while they are in electric fences from a brute with full fury, fiery embrace, and rage.... you got to see it to believe it.

To the OP: If you want to give melee a try for farming, I am honest, brutes are BRUTAL, just awesome SMASH. Nothing smashes like a brute.

    Name of brute: Abysmal-Terror.

I will add a note about this. I am not taking anything away from his intention. I am sure we all appreciate his help. But server maintenance 'up to 2 hours' is not a hard and fast rule. The task is done to standard and not to time. Maintenance may take as long as it needs. Servers have been down for more than 2 hours before. There is no guarantee that it will take 'up to two hours'. Please be sure that when it's done, the servers will be up. I am just saying this so some of you do not end up calling or sending support tkts when you see the servers down for more than 2 hours, if you see them, on a maintenance day.

It has been posted before. Pay attention to the date of the information in the server status page. If the date is June 24, 2009, you know you have the wrong information in front of you and that is because of a glitch. Make sure you refresh until you see TODAYS date on the date of information which is located bottom right.

If the page says server is down or unknown and then you see the page say server UP, check the date at the bottom. Check to see if it has changed back to June 24, 2009.

Please read the whole thread, if you are new to the thread, to find out more about what is going on.

    PvP Corruptors

    [ QUOTE ]
What are the current FotMs for PvP corruptors nowadays? I've been thinking about a few build ideas and can't seem to decide on any powersets. My only ideas so far are Energy or Rad primary, Cold or Rad secondary.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you want a range toon to blast with in PvP, consider making a Dom instead of a Corruptor. Right now, from what you can see in practice, Doms > Corruptors, yes, even Doms > Elec/thermal, especially mind/fire or fire/fire Doms.

The damage buff now, which does not need Domination, is so good, and the damage is dealt so fast, it makes for a lot better blasters than perhaps all blasters and corrs.

If you are set in stone with making a Corr for pvp, DPS is still king. I would go with a fire/ primary for the very fast damage output.

My suggestions are geared more for arena pvp than zones.
  13. I rather not have it be as meh as it is now and make it better/a bit more powerful and justify the long recharge for a mediocre power as it is.

The way I propose Liquify be, would be comparable to volcanic gasses. I did not say identical, just comparable. Also, AoE holds, for the vast majority of cases, if not all of them, have these sort of recharge times, so it is completely normal and fair, according to the devs. This would be something they would probably consider and a bit more justified.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
    1. That would certainly be more useful.

    2. I can see that being equally useful.

    3. This would compeletely destroy my only reason for being a sonic. The character was created explicitly to leverage caging and find as many uses and tactics for it as possible. She was built exclusively for caging on the STF where she can perma-cage 2 Patrons and AoE-Perma-sleep a 3'd (or more) patron. Then once the yellow is down perma-cage LR until the team is ready to deal with him. You could translate this to the LRSF as sleeping as many as you can cone/aoe and perma-caging 2 others.

    4. This hole has always been here, sure I won't complain if it gets plugged, but I won't hold my breath either.

    5. I'd love to see liquefy on a shorter timer, making it considerably more useful. As-is the timer is entirely too long.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Agreed.

I also wanted to add this: Defense to psy will not be added to FF, in its individual bubbles perhaps because that defense can be provided by Fortitude in Empths plus Dispersion field in FF, add to that the various to hit debuffs in the game.

Resistance to psy will probably not be provided by the Sonic Resonance set because Dark Miasma can provide that and Pain Domination can provide that as well.

As a Dev, perhaps you don't want a set to provide solid defense vs all in only one set, and you don't want to provide solid resist to all in one set. You would want different sets to cover different holes and encourage others to play different powersets for different purposes.

    My two cents on Liquify:

    1. Make the power do yet another resistance debuff. This is auto; no accuracy check needed for this to happen.

    2. Hold, include the acc check for this effect.

    3. Moderate DoT damage, accuracy check for this as well.

Keep the recharge as is, but include the above. That way we can justify the long recharge time.
  15. For PvE end sapping, I would have to go with electric/kinetics corr, and even over electric/thermal. I have both of them 50s. Electric on its own will zapp all the endu of critters and it does not take that long to do it. Still, /kinetics secondary helps to zap them out of endurance faster because transference recharges faster and it actually drains endurance. Thermal has no tool to drain like kinetics; it has tools to debuff recovery. The heal in kinetics drains for a little bit, but it is enough to drain the last tiny bit if one of the zapping powers from either set is not recharged yet.

Short circuit zaps endu but also debuffs recovery and the recovery debuff last long enough to do a good job to zap him dry using all your tools.

For pure end zapping in PvE, electric/kin is perhaps number one.
  16. I just finished creating my arc. Imagine heroes helping Dreck out!? For Dreck to come to the Heroes for help, the threat has to be potentially disastrous.

I know the OP is referring to fights vs other melee types. It is mostly known that pure melee vs range is never good for the pure melee unless you are ice/ tanker or some good stalker pvp players.

Anyway, I do think that melee fights vs his build or toon would be much better than talk in forums to decide if DB can do well vs other melee toons.
  21. I like this post a lot.

I will add my two cents here of what should be changed as well.

Nerf the stealth cap for stalkers. Being buffed with all sorts of perception and still not being able to see a stalker at farther than 10 ft who has the ability to do massive burst damg is just wrong. Or do not nerf the stealth cap but increase the perception cap. A team of 3-4 spines/em scrappers is just as deadly, if not more, than any group of 3-4 blasters. THey will Impale for criticals and do a hit and run tactic again and again and again at stealth cap which is great since Impale is outside of anyone's perception range. (come to freedom SC and you might see this awesome tactic sometimes, if you have not seen it already).

An illusion/ running SI... you dont even need perception to see him from close. If a toon has one single perception+ (clarity is available to villains at SC lvls) power on him, SI is a bit meh, at best.

I would like to see corruptors have access to some better APP powers AND I would like to see defenders have a better inherent than defenders now have. Scourge is AWESOME for PvP.

I would not mind trading heroe APP for controllers for an inherent like Domination either.

MM's being able to control their pets with no real difficulties while they and their pets are confused (tested at any zone and arena). What sense does that make? LOL

I absolutely want an expansion or another server where we may have toons equipped with any IO's or HO's or any other abilities and equipment for PvP. Something similar to Guild Wars (that is an awesome idea indeed). An IO'd out toon is as good as G.ODlike in pvp.

    Whew!

Thanks for taking care of this hideous abuse!

Naturally you'll be eliminating the same abhorrent situation for the Nemesis on PvE right?????

Because otherwise, your motives would be highly questionable. I mean if stacked vengeance is wrong, it's wrong both for players and the AI of Nemesis. Feel free to announce that stacked veng has been wiped out for them and you'll be a hero for sure.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sniper Rifle from various sniper mobs still fires after you break LoS or hit them to interrupt it. Valkyrie has a version of MoG which certainly appears to have resistance/defense to Psi. Many AVs have tier-9s with no crash. Carnival of Shadows Illusionists and Master Illusionists Phase Shift while mezzed. Nemesis Lieutenants stack Vengance. DE Quartzes give +100% ToHit buff in a 50ft AoE, which is just absurd. PPD Psi-Lieutenants and Aurora Borealis have Levitate, but theirs is AoE. Longbow Sonic Wardens have an ally heal. There's probably a ton more that I missed.

But the thing is, all this is to balance the fact that the AI is dumb. It needs all the help it can get.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Phaseshift while mezzed is BS. There is no justification for that. Otherwise a HOLD is not rendering a baddy helpless like the power description says. Good AI or not. Natural intelligence (*Devs) letting this happen is the only reason and with all respect, that is unacceptable. It goes against what the power should be. It should be fixed.

For the PvE folks reading this, no, Vengeance is not meant to stack in PvE, either and the change, when it happens, will apply in those encounters as well.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Will this be true of NPCs (Nemesis Lieutenants), as well?

If so, I can accept this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

True. So true. If NPC's can do this, so can we. WTH ?
  24. [ QUOTE ]
AVs don't drop SOs automatically anymore.

IOs are now in the game and can be found in the invention table. They enhance better than SOs, except where triple slotting and ED make the difference trivial.

At higher levels, TOs and DOs stop dropping, so, the only enhancement drop will be SOs. If you want +3SOs, fight level 53 bosses.

Story arcs still give an SO as a choice.

    [/ QUOTE ]

"IO's are now in the game"---- So? And my brother joined last week. My point is, so what? We still fight an AV or 5-6 of them and they are not dropping anything.

Fighting a Boss 53 should drop but AV's dont ? That dog dont hunt.

It needs to be fixed. AV's should be dropping thats the reward, thats the loot, thats the way it has been. IO"s are just a chance to get them.

+3 SO's should be dropped by AVs. No reason for cutting that off now. IO"s is only a once in a while kinda thing because of the "chance" issue.
  25. Again, if the the three dots is swipe (i could not remember the name while at work) then I absolutely do not recommend that power. Strike is the term that should be applied to what I do support. Strike is good enough , any day, to replace swipe. I know what I am saying here. I grinded my claws/invul from 1-50 , no PL. Solo and in teams.

I also had spin in my toon and I will not complain about it. I ran mish's in Unyielding for the extra mobs and KB, cone attacks and Spin were great AoE's tools for me.

Once i hit 50 I respec'd OUT of Spin and took Hasten/SS --along with SJ-- intead to a) have dull pain up more often , b) to stack more of follow up (more IS better), c) to counter effects of slows, d) to have Focus available more often in PvP Zones (especially SC and RV) which is a problem for Doms and corruptors (since Shockwave recharges more often too).
