Oh? I wonder if wee're getting the same thing the guys in the US get each week.

Awww ey, I didn't know about any problems at ITV so I didn't catch the reference
You have my sympathies, but given how rubbish 99.9% of anything ITV makes is, I'd say you are lucky to be out of there. Get yourself to somewhere good and make good TV.....or better still, write it yourself, you're easily one of the funniest people on these boards -
Been happening to me for days now, was beginning to wonder what it was causing it until I saw this.

rather than having nice shiny boxes in nice shiny stands in major game shops for the casual walk past buyer to go "oooooo that looks fun" the way I did.
[/ QUOTE ]
You are still failing to grasp that they could print as many nice shiny boxes as they want but there is nothing they can do to make retailers put them on the shelves.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes there is, it's called advertising it.
A sudden rush of adverts, be it online, in magazines, before movies, on tv, free trials on magazines, etc will get people looking for it.
After selling games for 10 years, believe me when I say, if a lot of people come in asking for something, the staff in the shops do tell their respective head offices and that gets things on the shelves, even in a limited amount. Good sales in the shops then get more into the shops.
Honestly, I've seen this happen numerous times! I've personally rang head office myself and they got the stock in and it sold! This has happened with CD's, DVD's, books and games. I can tell you about movies like Trekkies, the documentary about Star Trek fans, the company I used to work for wasn't going to stock it aat all, I rang head office after people asked about it, as did several other branches and it got stocked....and immediately sold out as the fans ad seen it reviewed in the latest issue of Star Trek magazine and online!
The same can happen for CoH, they just seem to not want to do this. I agree Game and Gamestation aren't going to stock a game no one has ever asked for, why should they. What NC need to do is get people asking for it! -
I did think that the release of the box and i14 would not match, it makes more sense to get I14 live, get rid of any major unexpected bugs and THEN release the box, makes for things looking better to any new players.
Of course, getting the boxes on the shelves in the EU would be a nice start as well..... -
Yup, I use one of these, specifically got it for things like CoH payments internet shopping as Maestro is getting progressively harder to use online now.
The one I use is the Mastercard one by Optimum
Looking around, seems to be one of the cheapest for it's charges, although it can be a little time consuming to get money on if you don't put it on over the counter at your post office.
Works flawlessly for paying anything on CoH though -
No, the download edition we get is aimed at new players, instead of a boxed edition in the shops. ew players can buy the game from NC, download it and also get the code for the booster pack free as well.
At least, that's how I'm understanding it? -
Loooooots of reviews out there for Architect now
including a handy list on the US boards!
Looking pretty favourable so far, which has got to be good -

You do have to wonder though, will we still get the free booster pack if we get the Architect edition as a download?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes. The digital version grants the free booster as well.
[/ QUOTE ]
Excellent, good to know.....now, if we can just get a boxed edition over here and also some advertising.....in fact there's a new film coing out called Super Capers, I just linked to it on the Comic Book forum, that would be a perfect tie in for CoH!! (hint hint hint!!!) -
You do have to wonder though, will we still get the free booster pack if we get the Architect edition as a download? Or is it just in the box that we're not getting?

I just found it pleased me on both pedantry and irony fronts, given that the botched spelling was in a section upon the importance of correct spelling. :P

Sorry JD, didn't mean to make out that you were a pedant....more that I am -

New slots are coming my wayyyyy... -
Personally I think one of the most effective, at least on me, are the banner ads I see on varying websites, usually for the free MMO's. They must be making money somewhere as I'm often seeing the same games adverstised.
Try some banner ads on varying online comic strips, even the lesser known ones will work. A lot of them use the subject matter that will appeal to this player base, such as pop culture, comic books, movies, TV etc. How much does you average banner ad cost? Got to be far less than a TV advert or a magazine page, surely? -

One, you get some fantastic graphics, excellent game play

Meh, The Sun Page 3 can do that as well -
I saw a small article about the end of beta event for the US in Pc Format and was immediately captured by the idea of playing a superhero, got my imagination going straight away, the idea for Coin was born a few days later
I read that it was US only and didn't realise that EU people could play the US game, saw that a forthcoming EU version was mentioned and decided to wait for that.
When it came out, snapped it up about a week after launch when we got it in at the MVC store I worked at after seeing on the shelf for a week, fired it up for the first time on Valentines Night (hows that for true love off Mrs Coin??!?) and not stopped playing since!
Mrs Coin got into it about 15 months ago after suffering me playing it for so long. I got a new PC, my old one was sat idle, she wondered what could keep me so enthralled for so long and tried a trial. A few days later she was hooked as well and is still playing. Now my kids are clamoring for an account......
One of us, one of us, one of us, one of us..... -
I've tried both. I tried WoW.....twice....and hated it both times. Not so much for the game, but for the people on it.
First time i tried it on and off for a full month that you get for buying the game.
In the full month, not one person spoke to me, not one person invited me to team, not one person offered any help or advice on the broadcast channel when I asked about how to use a new weapon.
I tried to form my own teams only to discover there was no SK system (dunno if there is now, not looked) and promptly got insulted by someone for asking if there was a team space. The game was VERY grindy, constantly being asked to kill 20 of this rat and 20 of that wolf, etc.
Needless to say, I wasn't impressed.
Went back about a year later on a friends reccomndation for a 14 day trial. Despite having friends now playing it I think I only managed to team with them once hen they rolled some new toons to team with me, but after that was left to it as they were busy teaming on their higher levels and couldn't join in, still no SK system. Again, 2 weeks of grinding and boredom.
Came back to CoH.
Tonight, I logged in on a lvl 4 hero, set myself to LFT and got an invite in 5 mins, spent a good hour or so having fun on my new scrapper, TechnoSword, and enjoyed myself a lot, even got chatting in tells to one of the team mebers about our kids.
Now, you tell me which wins: D -

The rest of the Devs are working on Issue 15.
You know, the shiny, 5th Anniversary issue.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ahhh, that's my point, Riffster ol' buddy, ol' pal! Instead of moving from 13 to 14, they haven't had much to do for 14 as it's been all taken from 13 anyway, so they've had allllll this extra time to work on 15!!
I can't wait -
I think forums in general can be scary places, especially the more established ones, be it this one or any other. It's a bit like walking into a well established pub with it's own regulars for the first time.
From what I've seen elsewhere though, this place is tame compared to others though, I've seen some that would tear this place to shreads for sheer stupidity, hatred and vitriol!! -
Just been thinking.....always dangerous, i know
Now, it seems that Issue 14 is mostly Architect, with a few minor extras added as well It's been worked on for months now, was originally part of issue 13 after all. There's can't have been the WHOLE dev team working on it though. I mean, people like Sexy Jay and War Witch would have only had a small amount to do on it, there can't have been too many cossie and speech things to add to it, after all. Same with other departments. Once the artwork and graphics for it have been finished, which looks like it was done a while back given how long some screenies have been out.
So, what have these other devs been doing all this time?
Bodes well for I15 I reckon
What?? So sue me for being optimistic -
Erm, no, just a normal teddy bear....well, a moose actually with light up lights on his antlers.......actually, it's a smaller version than normal.
