I'd say it's more like taking kids into a sweet shop, telling them they can have anything they want, then coming back 5 minutes later to find they've fetched their dads' wheelbarrows and are filling them with sweets.

You shouldn't leaving kids unattended in sweetshops in the first place...but if you do and find they've taken liberties, you tell them to put stuff back on the shelf.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is the best analogy I've seen yet, very apt.

Thing is, the kids have already eaten the sweets and if they get their stomachs pumped, they're gonna run away from home because of parental abuse

Feel free to pick anyone you like, but it just wont get you anywhere. Sure posi may not did the best stuff _in your pov_ but it doesnt give anyone the right to go bash him along the last 5 big topics about this issue.

Morelikely US side will take the EU peeps less serious, if al they can do is reposting the same stuff over and over and insulting posi while they can.

    [/ QUOTE ]

All my months of subscription, box purchase and booster pack purchases won't add up to anywhere near a week's (maybe a day? two days?) worth of Posi's wages, but I can still use my right to complain in a place that they'll not pay attention to about the quality of service and direct my complaints to the people providing the service, who do score points for actually having a nameable presence.

    Futility ftw!

Agreed, but Statesman-bashing is not so nicely controversial - almost everyone hates him.
And incidentally - it is Statesman (J. Emmett), who is doing the CO, so people will have fun ... >

Makes you wonder if they had any creative control, comic-book wise, over their characters. Is Statesman a prat because Jack Emmett is too, or is that heading down the lines of S.M. Stirling's "There is a technical, literary term for those who mistake the opinions and beliefs of characters in a novel for those of the author. The term is 'idiot.'"

On a side note, every other game developer makes statements, or releases, or plain old messages. Positron makes a 'global address'. Got a superhero complex much, have we?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Haaaaaaaaaahahahahaha! Yeah, it's Positron who's petty. Not the bandwagon taking umbridge at random acts of grammar.

Look out! He's got a dictionary! We're all going to be...*flip, flip, flip*...despoiled! Yeah, like that one. FLEE THE DESPOILER!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Har. Har.

All they, and we, have got to go on is his words. I've said it before, and will say it again.

Posi needs better PR. Perhaps NC can pay for a course?.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
Obviously I can only speak for myself here, but I think that if there really is a split, it is not caused by "divisive" content (MA) but by a few people in the community treating a simple matter of adjusting the game balance like a personal insult.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Adjusting game mechanics is one thing. If they nerf NRG/NRG blasters, which my main toon is, to the point of being nothing more than a guy with flashlights on his wrists, then I'll either keep playing that toon and be damned, or find some other way to play him.

Nerf my NRG blaster specifically because I've been playing the game? Now that is a personal insult. Vaguely threatening to nerf my blaster who, thankfully, is in no sense an "exceptional, conspicuous, outstanding, most usually in a negative fashion" abuser of the MA, is also a personal insult.

This is not paying other people to PL a toon, this is not buying Inf from other players (I've actually seen "But I gotta farm to earn money [sic] to buy enhancements and change my costume!" in-game). They gave us a much-vaunted, highly-advertised and released way-too-early feature, which I found made the game fun because as a usually solo player (and all the worse of for it) I could get a full, balanced and varied team fairly quickly to play with gusto and great banter, felling enemies left right and centre.

    E I, E I, D'oh!

As Judgement Dave has said, Posi needs better PR so that his happy-joy-joy statements involving 'soon(tm)', 'cool(tm)' and 'fun(tm)' don't come off as fluffy non-speak, and also so that his RAWRCRUSH(tm by me from a different game) statements don't come off as signs of being a pompous prat who's annoyed at the players for not playing his game properly.

Public relations and programmers don't mix, usually, as they're just like us except they get paid to be geeks/nerds. This, however, is part of the problem, as the poor statements that go with their poor updates are only compounding our troubles, as MajorPain points out two posts above.

    Guys,

Any tips on how to get invites to Teams that are doing story arcs or MAs that are interesting? Everything seams to be power-leveling and farming. I am not opposed to these things but find a lot of the fun is missing from these groups.

My SG is dormant so that's not the answer.

    Cheers,
    Lord Giro

    [/ QUOTE ]

Look me up next time you're on also.

If the SGs are dormant there's a secret: find all the active players in dormant SGs and start all over again - it's the ciiiiiirrrcle of liiiiiiiiiife!
  9. [ QUOTE ]
I've loved reading people banging on about Positron's ego as if pettiness is what motivates game developers.

    <snip>

Now for Positron and Paragon Studios, it's their livelihood, it's a roof over their heads and food in their kids' bellies. They have much more at stake in this game than any number of egocentric players with an overdeveloped sense of entitlement will ever have. So when they do things like this, it's because they're doing what they need to do in order to keep this game going, because the future of this game is more important to them than to all of us put together.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If it's so important to them, why on earth does this entire, newly-expanded, team of people keep on collectively doing stupid things (TM).?

I've not been back playing this game for a particularly long time (three months or so now) but everything I've seen in statements from Positron or Issue releases has come off as half-cocked, not thought through and generally unprofessional, catered purely to the sort of headlines CoH might generate on MMORPG.com.

On a side note, every other game developer makes statements, or releases, or plain old messages. Positron makes a 'global address'. Got a superhero complex much, have we?
  10. [ QUOTE ]
A majority of players have indeed been requesting measures to be taken against farming since Beta. Measures can now be taken.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A majority say it's broken and exploitable, so you release it anyway and fix it a month later? Would it not have been cleverer to release a fixed version it *during* the anniversary month of May, rather than just before it so that we can send the whole time saying "it's still broken, you know" while debating the upcoming first bit of competition in Champions Online?

    [ QUOTE ]
It's taken a while to get to the bottom of this but please, does it have this poisonous on these boards?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Posi has thrown his toys out of his pram with his statement, and we're throwing them back (and getting some return fire, also) , we have our own prams as I'm sure you're well aware.

    [ QUOTE ]
I understand that many are conjecturing wildly after what Positron said but, had we decided to react more lightly than this, there would have been just as much ruckus.

We haven't specified the exact extent of the measures we are taking against farming and those who have benefited from it, so let's not over-react.

    [/ QUOTE ]

State the parameters, halve the ruckus. Give us vague threats from across the pond and feel the heat. Give us less vague threats and we either would do the same or wouldn't take it seriously. If they can tell the player base what we're going to be on the receiving end of in specific terms, after using a feature they provided in the way we wished, then a lot of problems will be solved.

It's not your fault, Avatea, at all. You've just got a red name and therefore are our Metatron, so we have to direct everything to you. God's on the wrong side of the Atlantic, not-reading the wrong forums anyway.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
And no, because 1-22 is a bit of a grind is not, imo, a good enough reason.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    It's a grind to 22 (ooooh, Stamina ), it's a grind to 30, it's a grind to 40 and, as far as I've found so far, it's a grind to 50.

Tell you what, I'll grind the way I choose, thanks. At least over the last month we've been able to find teams without having to wait, hope and pray for three hours.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
So why do you think Positron is coming down hard on MA abuse if there's nothing wrong with it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Nothing better to do?
    Armour strapped on too tight?
Didn't like being bald as a coot in the comics?
Needs to assert his power after a [censored] anniversary address?

    Erm, struggling now.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Do they expect me to log onto the game now and have FUN?!?!!? Are they mad?!?!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Do they expect people who have farmed a level or two (or fifty) to log in and play on their characters now?

No point in going back to normal-levelling a toon you've farmed up a few levels because they might nerf you.

No point in starting a new toon, either, because there's no-one to group with outside of the MA, which is of course verboten. It's still going on, of course, as the average CoHer doesn't read the forums and is still 'LFF' in Atlas.

Nice one, Shadow of Almighty Positron, you're really encouraging us, here.
  14. CoX_Starblaydia

    E I, E I, D'oh!

No matter what your opinion on the implementation, events and debate over the last month and a bit, you've/we've/they've surely got to admit this: one way or the other, they've screwed up right royally along the way.

Question is, can they fix it? Old McPandora's Box has been opened, but can it be shut so MA is all about 'cool' and 'fun' (Posi's words of the month, it seems) player-created story arcs? Should they fix it, or are they reaping what they've sewn?
  15. [ QUOTE ]
"Adjusted Rikti ship paths to not go through AE buildings"

    [/ QUOTE ]

This, for me, says it all about how this game is run:

Action: Put AE Buildings in Zones.

Fix three days short of a month later: Stop ships flying through them.

You really put a lot of thought into this Architect thing beforehand, didn't you boys and girls?

Where's the rolleyes emote when I need it?
  16. [ QUOTE ]
    Great thread this.

Posi reacts in a way that some of us knew he would, and only now the brown stuff hits the fan from the playerbase.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Positron is a comic book and computer game character, who is bad at PR.

I bet he's not even real
  17. [ QUOTE ]
As for the devs not picking up the ball as quickly as they could have, it's their ball and they can do with it whatever the hell they like.

What matters now is that they are picking up the ball and wiping mud off it too.

    [/ QUOTE ]

We've all paid for their ball, and their muddy pitch, the stadium with it's fancy lighting, VIP boxes and associated paraphernalia. But it all comes down to the fact that they're the ones telling us what to do with their ball.

They set us some rules, fine, to operate within. They 'give' us trinkets they've developed with our money. Some of us don't like the trinkets, others desperately love them, and others dip in and out when they feel like it.

Oh, you used a particular trinket in a way that Posi said isn't cool? RAWRCRUSH.

Principle, dude, principle. They expected it, they didn't listen, they didn't fix it beforehand, nor during. They never listen, of course, they're Devs. So now they bring down the godly fist of doom and I, for one, don't like it. Had I not gone near the MA, I still wouldn't like it - they've broken their game and in attempting to fix it are going too far the other way.
  18. And now posted in the announcements by Avatea: linky.

    New Archetypes

Longbow and Vigilante pets? Thinking along the lines of The Dark Knight's Batman wannabes who would give their right arm (and more) to fight alongside the dark knight.
  20. The people who have just bought the game, PL'd their way to various 50s and don't have a clue or, more importantly, aren't bothered about how to play their 50 "properly" (rawr I R vet + I no how 2 play teh proper) will just simply not re-subscribe past their free month or whatever they've already paid for. They're no real loss to the game, as they wouldn't have bothered anyway, I'd imagine.

Simply, NC broke their game and people who didn't like that punished them where it hurts, in their bank accounts. I (and I'm not alone) played their broken game regardless and if they expect to punish me for it (even though I *still* don't have a 50 to my name), I can do it right back along similar lines.

Though that might be outweighed by those who come back to paying for the newly-fixed game
  21. [ QUOTE ]
    Awesome.

    I like it.

And anyone who disagrees... go read the EULA. NC can do this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I disagree, and I am aware they can do it. It's the 'rawr we can change anything we like at any time we like' section. If they don't touch my toons (of which I have many more than any who have teamed in MA) then I won't complain.

Selfish, yes, but it's my bank account (and theirs, too) at the end of the day.
  22. So I can 'lose access to' (how exactly is that different to deleting?) characters I may have used the MA to level up faster with?

So by using their much-vaunted new feature in a fashion they anticipated ('nor did we not expect it') yet did nothing to stop (oooh no prisoners? wow, harsh!) means I can no longer use those characters?

Wow. If that happens it'll be cya CoH and hello World of Warcraft, I've missed your loveliness.

I also do kind of miss a shape changer - meaning like growing in size or form like Mr. Fantastic for example or Giant

Kheldians are fairly close, but the full-on WoW Druid type shiftery to make either a jack-of-all-ATs or a master-of-one would be quite cool.

Though that does bring to mind watching a Fire/Kin controller and his imps play scrapper for a team I was in last night. We christened his build a Scroller.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
I never used set IO's because it cost far too much now i can collect and gather them easily using the MA ticket reward system.

    [/ QUOTE ]

With thousands of tickets available and even SOs costing, last time I purchased some, 75 tickets each, you can slot a character to the eyeballs with no real trouble. I had a stack of red enhancements that were all shipped out and replaced with ticket-purchased enhancementery. Blasty, thrifty, farmy goodness.
