Quote:I'm guessing the devs thought the button-tagging system ("Challenging", "Easy", Solo Friendly", etc.) would keep people from getting confused about "all those letters".A tiny fragment of the playerbase probably knows about the player-designated tags. Frankly I'm surprised more of them didn't make it into the AE interface...maybe something to ask for in the next round of improvements?
I'd like to see more buttons on that menu (such as level range), plus a very obvious and intuitive way to make a search with your choice of button(s) checked off. There may actually be such a thing for all I know. I've checked the search feature once or twice but nothing leapt out at me like a snake - which is why I'd make it much more intuitive. -

That's not a bad idea actually... I often run through my arcs from time to time just for the heck of it (it was fun the time my latest villain ran through and fought the custom boss I made that inspired her, but I digress). Even if no one else plays it, at least my villains won't have to fight those freakin' snakes ONE... MORE... TIME... when I start up a new one.

Quite untrue! I've often literally lost sleep when I walked out of a mish and found the sky red or green. I love fighting in the large crowds that do still gather for the invasions. Plus, far as I'm concerned, an invasion is pretty much free drops and xp, why turn your back on that? (I know drops and XP aren't exactly the rarest things in the game, but still)

Quote:It's the other way round for me. Up until about a year ago I was running nothing but males and knew my way round their options like the back of my hand. When I went to make my first female toon it took me a looong time to make one I was happy with (and that also wasn't just "look at me, I'm wearing a bikini to fight crime, tee hee!").For your discussion, I have a specific reason for playing *mostly* female characters.....it's much easier to make a good looking cossie for the female characters. for me at least
Can't seem to get the hang of making male cossies, they always look stupid ot me, I think I've made, maybe 3 decent looking toons!
Since then I think I've made say seven or eight new toons with something like an equal balance between the sexes and I still feel sort of in the dark for the women, even after giving in and making one the crime-fighting-bikini type (with a name like Mars Attracts, how could she be anything else but?). Now, her and another female MM will soon be needing a new costume slot and I'm still sitting here looking at the costume creator and thinking (for them) "I haven't got a thing to wear!" :P -
You may be thinking of a sublcass of folk you didn't mention, the "casual gamer", rather than the role player. I have better things to do with myself than attempting to squeeze out an extra .6% with careful and considered IO slotting and endless accolade chasing (which is one reason why I don't bother with PvP - others do have that time and interest), and yet I do not role play.
I would say the PvP people you describe are "hardcore gamers". -
I keep checking back at BRB,BIO but it seems dead, which is sad. Maybe we should make a generic "bad bios" space for these on the Paragon Wiki? Sure they're not IMPORTANT, but they are lots of fun.

Quote:I think the old power-leveling extremes weren't half as (dare I say it) egregious as the previous methods.Worth noting that there were power leveling extremes before AE too, AE just made it easier for anyone to do so, and do it from atlas instead of PI farms.
But I could be wrong as I've never gone that route. Can't recall I ever heard about "5-hour fifties" before AE popped up. -
Cool, thanks. I've been kicking around an idea for a lowbie villain arc ("no snakes - guaranteed!") but I'm kind of at a loss to justify the time put into it when (apparently) so few people play anything non "agriculture-related" in AE. I'm hoping the more I think about it and plan the more I can rustle up some energy to start on it and get it done, and this info helps me do that.

Can you please tell me what each of those tags stands for so I don't misuse them (if I use them)?
-
I haven't paid too much attention to the whines and replies about being locked out, but don't some of the repliers point out that being "refused" once does not equate to never being able to get on? I seem to recall most of them advise backing out by one screen then trying again and that after a few tries and only a couple of minutes they can usually make it in.
Or maybe I'm misremembering that??? -
Once combat get started the chances of everyone staying all grouped tightly for AM to reliably AoE all over them is... well, a little unlikely in my experience/opinion, so I'd still go with putting procs in 'trops (is that like fox in box?). Assuming I was going looking to use a damage proc anyways; remember, minor damage is minor after all. Achilles Heel is another matter.
Then again, it's good to know that about AM and I am rather 'trops-philic as a general rule anyway. Thanks for passing that on about AM. -
This thread has become much more entertaining since it got derailed.
And the hanky code? Isn't that only about as useful and common as Morse code these days? -
Quote:I'd be more than happy to explain it to you, but it's not terribly family-friendly.I must be having a really dumb moment - as I honestly dont get the referrence!
In fact its not at all family-friendly. Not really one little bit.
Try putting your mind the gutter and see what you can make of it. -

Quote:Don'ty forget to use Kin in your name too, like "Steve The Kin", "Flameykin", "MasterKin", "Kintarded", etc.Just name yourself something similar to "Psychotti" if you want to run into a lot of those.
XxxLots and lots of thisxxX or.this
MYNAMEINALLCAPS rocks too; even moreso W H E N S P A C E D.
Videogame characters' names, such as "SephirothBane".
You can never go wrong with "Wolvireen" or "BigHulk" and the like.
And that's just skimming off the top of my sieve-like head, I'm sure I left some out. -

I haven't tried putting damage procs in AM, but considering it's a single target attack and fires at a slow pace, I'd say damage procs are kind of silly in it, little bang for big bucks. As I recall, the procs are all just "minor damage" which generally is pretty minor. Putting them in something like Caltrops would better because they have a chance to hit a whole group.
I haven't checked into all the possible procs but I'd aim more for "effect" ones rather than damage. Or you could just slot up the defense debuff (after the recharge) with generics which is dirt cheap and will help you take down your foe much faster. I once fought Black Scorpion and had a chance to get two AMs out - it was pretty sweet.
But, as with everything, do what you like! I slotted a minor energy damage proc in my Bots/Dark's TarPatch. Same deal as above, "little bang for big buck", but for some reason it seemed to fit my toon and I get some sort of satisfaction seeing it in there. -
My one angelic character is sonic/sonic and is named "Bark TheHeraldAngel". :3

I agree with OP pretty much. I like leaving feedback (even on two and one star missions) and I love getting it... when someone actually bothers to play my two arcs (see sig). After I quit working to advertise them here on the forums, hardly anyone's touched them because they're not farms in any manner. I think the last feedback I got was about seven plays ago, which was probably like the end of June maybe.

Quote:Exactly. This is why you shouldn't rush leveling your stalker (or any AT) for PvP (or ay type of play other than what goes on in Pocket D *ahem*).Stalkers aren't hard at all to level these days solo. They're scrappers with an ace in the hole, basically.
If you do rush like that, chances are you'll have a slim grasp on stalker tactics and won't do well in PvP. Like anything worth learning, it's going to take time (no more than other ATs however). -
Freedom is pretty good for off-hours play I've found (night shifter here). On the other hand I haven't tried Justice yet.

Quote:Snackcake!!No, REAL winners avoid a good point made by someone else by attacking that person instead.
I'd tell you what that's called, but you'd get upset because you'd think I heard it in "debate class" (I've never taken a debate class... I haven't even been in a classroom in almost 20 years).
