Quote:ZING! Gracias Muchacho!POW! Love it man! This will turn out real sharp! Keep up the quality work amigo!
Will do... however you say that whilst sounding Mexican.
Quote:Hmm, never pictured Mel as having quiet, contemplative down time like it appears there but it looks really good on her.
I think the chin may need a touch of work. I didn't notice at first glance but looking more closely it looks like the chin either juts out farther than one would expect or has some kind of distinct roundness about it? Probably not explaining it right but *shrug*
I also didn't think Mel capable of the softer emotions until I dug around and turned up images like this.
I get what your saying about the chin and I did mention it in the caption text above the image...
the pose I had in mind while doable is not very comfortable (at least not when I try it but my arms
are a lot thicker than normal so I dunno) in that your arm has to extend pretty far across your body for the chin
to extend over the tricep.
Any petite females care to chime in?
I may end up just putting her chin behind her arm. Her face being partially obscured
might even make for a more mysterious expression as she contemplates.
Thanks for the input Caemgen, I appreciate it.
Quote:Frankly, I think it's beautiful. It's very well done, to the point where I flipped it and it still looked pretty much right. I also love pencil lines greatly and this pic is a great example of why. The flow of the hair and the delicate areas that wisp off the larger lines are very pretty.
I'd tweak the eyes a little, since it's easy to let them get stylized too much and become unbalanced, so rather than having the contour lines have the same outward expanding cone shape:
I'd draw them more as if you're drawing them from the front, with the contour lines being balanced on both sides, opposite of each other:
I did a bad job of it, with my mouse, but you get the idea. Since she's turned to the side, you'll see less of the far eye, but their shape would still be essentially the same.
I did use the "flip-it-horizontally-trick" that you reminded me of this time around (thank
you for that) and it looked decent both ways.
I am aware of the stylized eyes and they were intentional in this instance (doesn't mean I
haven't done it as an "ooops" in other pieces though so by all means point it out if you see
something like that) so I will wait until later in the sketch after I draw in the object of her
contemplation and if they look bothersome still, then I'll make them more realistic.

Quote:Correction: Shia's winning immunity means exactly what it has always meant... he was safe from elimination, no more, no less.Though I'm still upset that Shia's winning immunity doesn't mean jack this month.
Quote:Even though someone dropped out, that doesn't really make it better that everyone else got immunity as well. That's pretty crappy in my opinion.
Winning immunity is a reprieve... it lets you know that, for the next 30 days, no matter what other craziness
happens you cannot be eliminated and for the whole next month the pressure is off.
As long as you turn in anything, even a crappy piece that would get no votes, by the deadline you're safe.
Only Shia had this reprieve as Lousy Day (unless I missed it) never posted early that he was dropping
out and so Aprosaath and Foo were still under the impression the whole month that they could be
eliminated if their piece didn't get enough votes. When the deadline came and went with no
piece from LD then they knew they were safe but it was already over by that time and
they had submitted their pieces already without ever knowing they couldn't lose.
Had LD posted "Hey I'm dropping out this month" before Apro and Foo submitted pieces, thereby
letting them know they had no chance of being eliminated this last month, then they would have
had the same reprieve as Shia and you would have a case.
Since he didn't give any notice, only Shia knew he was safe and your logic fails.
Quote:This is simply wrong. If you want to vote for Shia, vote for Shia.

Hmmm with this month's theme being defeat it makes me wonder if the final month's theme will be Ultimate Victory! -
Cool I was wondering if they were as good as I had heard... they sure cost enough.

Quote:Gratz Shia!and the winner for September is.......
Toxic Shia - 17 votes
The Foo - 8 votes
Aprosaath - 0 votes
Toxic Shia wins! Gratz man that piece was brilliant for the theme lol. This guarantees that you will be in the final round for November as long as you submit a themed piece for October. Well done.
Foo, Apro - You guys need to bring the rain next month
October's theme will be up today at some point.
I'm looking forward to see what the "Top 3" bring for next months theme.

Quote:Luckily I had awesome teachers in art all through middle school and high school...I generally don't have problems with constructive criticism. I weathered a painting professor who thought all stylized (non-western, non-realistic) art was a complete ripoff and non-original. She almost never had anything good to say about what I did back then unless I was painting still life. (I was SO happy when she went to China my final year and I got an open minded instructor who let me use watercolor instead of oils!)
but very critical parents who never cared for my art. I totally get what you mean.
Quote:Does my art have problems and mistakes? Sure it does. I'm still happy with it, tho'.
suggestions others just want to share their art so it can be appreciated by many.
I'm cool with either... just asking.

Ok since the last Mel didn't work out as... well as Mel (I still like the pic though and may post
it over in my New Art thread if I do any updates or coloring... it'll just be some other "lost it and
succumbed to the burn" fire based rogue hero/villain and not Mel) I thought I would take
another crack at Massacre Melanie but in a more recognizable form and with her trademark bangs.
Still wanted to do something a bit different than whats been done so I decided to go with a
(for lack of a better term) "thicker" style. Thicker lines and thick white spaces to the point where
her bangs almost look like fingers of a clawed hand rather than my usual fine line and detailed hair.
I raised the top knot up a bit and made the ponytail longer than usual and as suggested by Suichiro
made the horns more forward facing as well.
I may rework her expression a bit and narrow the chin, since this is in pencils (my Parker pens are
still "in the shop" lol), but I have a pretty good idea where I'm going with this.
Comments/suggestions always welcome as long as they are constructive.
-
Beautiful piece Liz.
I don't recall seeing any mention if you prefer constructive comments or not so I will
just say that is a very attractive style and I like the highly stylized faces and hair.
ZOMG is my fave...cuz she's hawt. -
-
No villains to submit as I really only play blueside but I just wanted to echo the sentiments here and tell you welcome back TS... errr IB.
Glad to hear you are feeling better man.

You should post more often and say hi...
or you could just share moar artz! -
Quote:Lol I was serious and stuffzGratz PS.
*grumbles about Chile being one of his guesses for the next round*
No, seriously, congratz!
TL
I've got two more pieces from Nojitsu coming soon anyway so I'm good... had I won a third
piece free from this contest I would've given it as gift art to some well deserving art-starved soul on this forum...
...or at least someone with a hot babe of a hero that I have always wanted to see a pinup done of.
-
Well since the source of his powers was the serum what about Seruman (pronounced say_roo_mon)
or Cryserum (portmanteau of Crey & Serum) or Mr. Mures (pronounced mu_rez) which is serum backwards
and also sounds like Mu, the people the Circle of Thorns are trying to kill, maybe you can work
them into the back story somehow, and Rez, short for ingame chat Ressurection or being brought
back to life anew, which the serum did... it gave him a new life as a hero.
Depends how clever you want to be with this or maybe you just want a cool sounding name like
Cosmic Wienerschnitzel Man (I know, I even amaze my ownself sometimes) either way
maybe that will give you a start in the right direction.
-
Gratz Powerstream, Noj has a great style and is easy to work with, you'll have to post up the finished result when she is done.
Thank you Jophiel for hosting the contest and putting up the prize.
The Irony here is that I'm good friends with a world renowned author of travel books that just spent 6 months in Chile writing a definitive work on that region... I have the autographed first edition sitting 5 feet away staring me in the face lol... ummm that was gonna be my next guess and stuffz... >.> -
Moved it over to my "New Artz WIP's and Stuffz" thread (clicky the button in the sig to see it
)
and posted another update... it's almost done. It's also a much larger and clearer pic.
Sorry to be posting something non-cute related in your thread but I haven't heard anything
in a couple days and so just in case you check this thread first when next you log in...
Hope you like it Psy

Very nice Jophiel I like Nojitsu's use of color and light in this one a lot. She has such a great pin-up style.
Gonna have to contact her again and see what the progress is on her cue and if she has time for the other two I've requested.
Sidenote: I swear those snub toe boots are becoming like her trademark.

Or at the very least vote like the FArt's depended on it.

Quote:You are really kicking these things out CR! Nice start here! I wish I had that kind of time to dedicate!
I kind of agree with Caemgen here as well. You are doing these gratis. It's a wonderful gesture and expenditure of your time. I can't imagine someone would take umbrage with your work if the pony tails or broach weren't exact.
Imagine what van Gogh wouldv'e turned out on these boardsQuote:We would have made him even nuttier and he'd have cut out his eyes to spite us.
though (and it does cut into my game time) but even 20 mins here and there add up.
Caemgen's sketch only took 45 mins in one sitting and I have like a half hour into Psygon so far.
I find myself sketching sometimes while I eat lunch so I'm not feeling the time pinch so much yet
but I be happier if I had 2-3 hours per day that I could spend on my art I think I would shake
off the rust much quicker and maybe tinker more with digital stuffz as well. Sigh oh well.
I'm not worried if I don't get stuff exact but I would like to be in the same ballpark lol,
I drew the tails cuz they were on her cute but the refs she sent had no tails or braids at all.
As for the P I could see how someone might not want P on their toon cuz well it sounds like
Pee lol and it would take like 2 seconds to erase and draw a circle in it's place.
Also she was very accommodating with my Xllusya cute and may even add in a Nemesis staff
which would be cool so I'm just responding in kind.
Lol Van Gogh would've turned out his most famous CoH painting Starry Wind... and then gone
insane when no one responded to his tells of PL Meh!
Sidenote: Van Gogh is my favorite of the Post-Impressionists and I've been to various galleries
all over the world to see his stuff (one of the largest collections is in Amsterdam) and what was
thought to be his last painting (there have been 7 more discovered since that post date it) "Wheatfield with Crows"
adorns my mousepad lol.

That is a wicked looking update to Cashoos costume. Yeah the boots are hard to resist too.
Uh oh PC is gonna be legal in two days??? You all KNOW what that means right???
RIGHT??!??!
No seriously someone tell me what it means I gots ta know!
Have a great B-Day Cashoo and gratz... we talking 18 or 21 here? -
I am wondering why people think voting for Shia is useless or irrelevant???
Sure he has immunity this month but the vote is to determine who has immunity for next
month right? Where did this idea come from???
And while we are on that note, with the contest wrapping up next month, is the immunity part going
to continue to the end or does it stop now that we are in the top three? If immunity continues it will
actually take a big part in the decision process as the winner may end up being whomever carried
immunity from the previous month and not who gets the most votes... what say you TA?
Personally I think it's a joint plot between Nemesis and Foo to grab extra votes. -
Correction: Psygon, you will take this sketch with the feisty hair and P logo and you will LIKE IT missy...
and furthermore... and... aww darn, it's tough to stay mean in the face of overwhelming cuteness hahaha.
You win for now "teh cuteness" but this battle is not over! {>. >}
**shakes fist emphatically**
