Basically the unspoken conclusion is that Microsoft forces you to have to buy a new machine if you want to have a good experience. Sure that's kind of underhanded, but we are talking about Microsoft here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't disagree that updated hardware is clearly the better way to go, but it almost sounds as if you're saying Microsoft is somehow also selling you the hardware... I'm not sure where the underhandedness comes in.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
    No it does not.

    listen to this:

    PC System Requirements
    Minimum PC Requirements

    -----Windows® 2000/XP-------

    - Never said vista on there.

Intel® Pentium® III 800 MHz or AMD Athlon 800 MHz
    256 MB RAM
CD-ROM Drive (DVD-ROM Drive if Collector's DVD Edition)
4 GB available hard disk space
    NVIDIA® GeForce™ 2 Series, ATI® Radeon® 8500 Series or Intel i865G and above Video Card
    Directx 9.0c
    16-bit sound card
    56k Internet connection
    Keyboard and mouse

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Note the "Minimum PC Requirements"
You need Windows 2K or XP as a MINIMUM.
Older releases of Windows, such as 98 or 95 or NT should not work, but Vista and newer releases should.

I sure hope you didn't also try to remove any RAM more than 256 MB...

Perhaps you could have explained what happens when you try to launch CoH on your Vista PC?
Something as simple as a Firewall setting could be blocking you.

Energy/Fire might not be an ideal combo, but it certainly won't be unplayable. Almost all the blaster secondary powers are short/melee range powers, so not a lot of them are going to synergize well with a primary that knocks foes away from the blaster.

But so what? Let her blast the heck out of her foes and take a couple of secondary powers to deal with the ones who get through to her. If she doesn't have to take all the secondary powers she'll have more room in the build for pool powers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The problem with /Fire isn't just that it's short/melee powers, it's that /Fire has so many PBAoE. Knockback truly hurts PBAoE.

You do make a good point where she could limit /Fire to Ring of Fire (no choice), Build Up and maybe Consume and still have room for 8 or 9 Primary powers plus 8 or 9 Pool powers.
  4. NRG/NRG is likely the best pairing for NRG.
    Lots of Smash.
NRG/Devices used to be good, and can be useful in a duo, but no Build Up can hurt it.

The flip side of her Blaster works well, Fire/NRG

Btw, playing a melee with an NRG blaster is no where near as bad as people make it out to be. You just avoid the big AoE meleers and focus on the Boss/Lts. that don't get knocked around by her. I'd still probably prefer a Controller.
Illusion/Storm would allow you to join in the knock about fun.
    Anything/Kin would be useful.

MA could not have been intended for this. Shouldn't teams be formed within lvl range with enemies around the same levels? I don't understand.

So here I am, playing an MMO solo. That kinda stinks because the whole point of MMO is teaming up. If I wanted to solo through levels I could just play something on PS.

    [/ QUOTE ]

We've been SideKicking since the beginning. Level range has always been almost irrelevant if you have people that can SK the lower levels.

Also, why are you reduced to soloing just because one team wasn't what you were looking for???

Why is the first instinct of so many on this forum to go running to mommy?

    [/ QUOTE ]
And once again, the person reporting a problem becomes the problem and is "running to mommy". I guess you're unable to comprehend that serious exploiting and unacceptable behavior hurt the entire community and there are people who are (gasp) actually willing to make an effort to help the game and the community as a whole.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Some people are far too quick to dive on the report button, not everyone that Reports, but enough.

Some GMs act on reports in a rash or even almost lazy manner. We know this from the people that have petioned to have GM actions reversed.

IMO, we'd all be better if we left the Report buttons for truly innappropriate activity. The devs can find the blurry issues with their datamining. I've only reported players or missions that left NO doubt in my mind that ANY GM responding would clearly need to take action.
  7. Firmly amongst those that don't care unless you follow me around and try to leech xp.
Even then, I've found that it is rarely a true leech (but it has happened). It is far more often someone new that assumed you help out a fellow hero or someone young that is simply having fun and trying to be genuinely helpful.

As far as kids playing, haters can hate all they want, it's not going to change it. Kids play and will continue play. It's a fantastically fun game for kids to create their own hero/villain and then see them in action.

My kids play because I know what they are playing, someone else's "rating" is nothing more than a guide. Other products rated for them they don't touch because it's MY call, not some corporation or committee's.

The fact that they play in no way means you are "babysitting" them anymore than I am "babysitting" the random fully grown morons I play with sometimes that don't know what they are doing or haven't learned yet how to interact socially.

I would have no issue with an SG/VG that excluded kids, there's nothing wrong with a mature only group and I would encourage groups to set guidelines like that. My kids don't join any SG other than mine.

    Which blaster is the best?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Mine, when played by me.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
I personally think you're doing something pretty twitchy if you can get to 50 in a month. But I've been here a long time and apparently getting to 50 in a week is standard fare now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, now you're simply displaying ignorance of levelling speeds and/or how to efficiently and non-exploitively to play the game.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
Purist - Definition: A CoX player who gets all secondary and primary powers, along with two powers from a travel pool and four APP/PPP's.

I just have a thing for a full set. Is this bad idea? Both in general, and on an Elec/Dev/MM blaster?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    It is not OK.

Also, you are skipping a MM power, so you're really not a Purist anyway.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
lol well.. that's a big DUH.. but how come nobody searches anymore
(not that they ever really did, but you'd think people would notice similar posts on the front page. I guess I should know better by now. haha)

    [/ QUOTE ]

It is both faster and easier to just make your own thread than to search for a thread that might be similar to what you want to ask.

Path of least resistance will always be chosen.
  12. Your current team is light in 3 areas.

    Lockdown, debuffing and AoE damage.

A Controller would solve the first 2 if selected properly, but the reality is a good Controller will not only boost the team, but it will make some superfluous.

I'd definitely go with more AoE, especially with the Kin buffs there already.
Dead things don't need to be locked down or debuffed.

Arch/MM or Fire/Fire Blaster is a good addition.
Spines/Fire Scrapper would fit too if things are hectic enough that you want that extra survivability.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
The problem is that the server architecture can't seem to handle that kind of traffic in one zone. There's "busy" and then there's "jammed."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sure it can, it handles it by spawning Atlas Park 2, Atlas Park 3, etc.
  14. I liked it.

Good story, and it felt right to fight through the bosses, you set it up well.

My only minor quibble was your contact's final assumption that my character would feel bad about what went down.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Because I don't believe that is the primary cause of disputes. I would think it is the accidentally promoted that cause the majority of the problems.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Accidental promotions can be cleared up now with the auto-demotion if truly desired.
I don't understand what leads you to think this could possibly be the cause of the majority of the problems. It is completely counter-intuitive to anything I've ever experienced, in or out of game.
I'd be interested to hear what the CS stats are on these kinds of issues. I'd be willing to wager a fair amount that intentional promotions and subsequent disagreements and conflicts are a much bigger problem and hassle for CS than accidents.

    [ QUOTE ]
It is intended to cure Customer Service getting involved in internal group disputes, and to correct a bug where a character that has been off-line longer than the auto-demotion period would sometimes be selected. I do not see it curing what you think it cures.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I see it curing Customer Service getting involved in internal group disputes exactly as you and the devs have stated. The arbiter of internal group disputes will now be internal to the groups, as it should be as I see it.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Every rank should be able to self-demote, not just leaders.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I wouldn't be against it, but why should that be in? Every rank can be demoted in the new system, why does it need to be self-demotion?
  17. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
In the current system, no one can demote someone who is at their same level, and there is no self demotion.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Wouldn't this have been solved by simply putting in a prompt for promoting to the same level as the person promoting? An ounce of prevention in this case would have been worth this pound of "cure".

    [/ QUOTE ]

How is it possible you are still asking this????
That would ONLY prevent those cases where the initial promotion was accidental and would do nothing in the case of leadership disputes when the promotions were very much intentional in the past but need to be adjusted in the present.

While I understand some of your concerns over the new role, it is unfathomable to me that you still believe a simple prompt would prevent anything this is intended to cure.

    I5

You did some good things in I5.

Unfortunately the very bad things overshadow them.

    1) Invuln tanks were gutted, what possible reason is there to play one when both Fire and Stone are more Invulnerable than Invulnerable Tanks?

    2) Burn was the defining power of the Tank Fire Primary and it was nerfed into uselessness. Damage nerf was fair, Endurance use nerf was fair, # of targets it can hit nerf was fair, recharge nerf was too much and the AI change to force enemies to flee was one of the singular worst decisions you've ever made regarding a power.

    3) Defiance for Blasters waits far, far too long to kick in and have any effect. Other than low level Blasters, it's meaningless. You've had this feedback from the first day players saw Defiance, I'm baffled that it went in unchanged.
