Chocolate....my dear reader.
Look up Max Brenners. Order something now. It will be there before 2xp weekend.
You get wife aggro, smack her with the chocolate. Its the best debuff you can get! Better than a Shivan and a Warburg Nuke.
More hints to defeating The Wife AV if you need them.
You know. That might be a good AE mission. Unstoppable AV like the new SF, have to find the glowies of chocolate, to beat the map. The minions and lts can all be kids of different ages that just want you dead...I mean your attention....hmmm.... -
aww..darn...if you have wife aggro...us sending you a build will not cure that. In fact, it might cause it to grow.
Come back after you defeat that spawn. I would be happy to give you a build then.
Think of the children!! -
But Clouded. If someone where to IO out a /stone brute, to say +recharge, +run speed, +dam, in a sense, negating the draw backs of Granite, would that not increase the gap further?
To answer the original poster. SS/Fire is very good. Its fun, and solo friendly.
I have two on my main server. One on each account. Just for the fun of it. -
Well, if you really want to maximize your potential, a Fire Melee/ Willpower, would be useful. Having a shield to most everything that game can throw at you, a way to not "have" to get stamina, the ability to place some of the best Global IO's, and a generally good combo.
Like you mention, mitagation will be an issue. One way, late game, would be to get Darkest Night from the patron pool. Good part about it, if you did go with Stamina and Quick Recovery, you would be able to run toggles with little fear of endurance issues.
Good reason for Super Reflexes, you will be awesome in PvE, and able to survive a lot of situations, that most others would find troubling. Just, for me, it takes to long to feel like you can just go all in. Sometimes it feels like you have to be cautious. Which, I find hard to do as a brute.
Its funny, every time I change from running a brute, to say a Corruptor, I find myself still trying to gain Fury with a character, way to squishy. Takes about 2 or 3 trips to the hospital until I figure out what I am doing wrong! -
Odd, you don't say yes or no to the idea. Just...mock, the notion.
That's ok. Money and Mouth. Some people do not normally go with that.
Happy Gaming! -
Well Lint,
I still have some of the old group on my Global lists on both accounts. Pit, and 3rd got annoyed with the game and moved on to Conan and WoW last I heard.
Not sure if we teamed all that often, but maybe you do. I seem to remember you as the guy with the Fire/Traps blaster in Pitbosses' old wolf runs. Could be wrong though.
Btw I think the CoV guild was/is MDK...which I still have a few toons in, just not really all that active in.
Drop me a PM and I'll let you know more.
Lant -
The reason I like SS/WP, over most other builds that would work, is you get mitagation, fast attack times, decent overall damage, and the ability to have few glaring holes in your "armor".
Dark melee/Wp would also work by giving you a ton of options.
Fire Melee, well, just seems Meh to me. Sure it hits hard, in that rare to see it resisted, sorta way, but it really has no mitagation. Lack of knock-down or stun, leaves it on the "armor" to protect the user.
Still, seems SS/WP is for the casual user that just wants a fast road to 50. -
You will get opinions like people have bumpers.
But, for quick and easy, Superstrength/Willpower.
It gives you everything you need and is useful with just SO's.
It can survive well with just the powers in the Primary and Secondary, with only two powers for travel being a "needed".
Even that can be skipped, due to two temp travel powers you get from bank missions at level 5 and 10, which should get you to your goal.
As an aside. A nightwidow would be a good bet, or a Huntsman. Personally, I hate the never go away crab pack. -
You know Bookkeeper. I bet if we set up a Test server Fight Night, lets say this Thursday at 9 pm est, and set up teams of 4. You and whoever you picked, against Grimlaf and any 3 he picked from Protector, the results would be interesting.
-
Yeah, but Grimlaf, you never would have made him without a certain persons' suggestion....hmm...

I have a few more perks than some. And I still have issues with my endurance on a will power. Of course, I also never seem to hit the rest button anymore.
To everyone that has read this post.
Thank you for your time. I have a few other thoughts brewing in the brain pan, when they are ready to spring forth I hope you care to read them. -
Hi,
I am Charnage.
I have a Coh additicion.
I started taking Coh on May 17th, 2004
Mostly, its the making of alts.
Altitis runs deep.
I love to make new characters, mixing and matching power sets that make the game interesting for me.
I enjoy playing with the people I have played with since I started this game, and mostly stick with them. I seldom ask for invites, or ask someone to join my team. I have always enjoyed the team work and the conversations, and in the last few years I have really enjoyed having a Teamspeak or a Vent server, so my jokes are a little more clear, the sarcasm noticeable.
I do not stand around a zone and beg for a AE mission, or a PL, or anything of that nature. I do not waste my time with such things. I have a limited time to play this game, as a way to relax at the end of the day, so I put on my under-roos, and pretend I have super powers like my favorite comics character.
I enjoy playing the content, relish a TF, and dig dressing up my dolls. I still get a rush from getting to the top of any tall building and just letting myself fall , watching myself get closer and closer, and then trying to hit my hover button just in time. I enjoy when new content rolls out and I dig having enough experience to help other people with most anything in the game.
I am also an expert farmer. I have done so as a helper on both wolves maps.
I have been the fire/ice tank in the old Ninjas and Dreck maps, I have done maps and maps of burning down evil doers and helping others make xp and influence, all in the name of a good time that I do not have to travel very far to do. I also enjoyed the tradition I started that each new 50 I helped get there, was treated to a tp above Monster Island, to get a defeat that meant nothing at all, to smile at the lack of fear from debt.
I enjoy trying to run a Fire/kin Controller as optimally as possible, and yes, I still use SOs, the best feeling is seeing 20 ticks of buff off of two fulcrum shifts. I enjoy the rush of diving into a maxed out spawn size and trashing them completely. I enjoy trying to figure out, just how many different mobs I can aggro with my Fire Armor Brute, even with the cap, to follow me around a corner, and still get the ones left behind to come over after their buddies are burnt all to a sizzle. I enjoy it, not so much for my own rewards, or the rewards I can get for my 2nd account, or for the friends I have teamed with me. I honestly enjoy the challenge. The challenge, to get the mobs to follow you where you want. To manage the aggro, so others can do their thing. To have a huge pile of fading out foes.
But, I really enjoying having the time to talk to my buds, to shoot the poot with them, to be goofy, to talk politics, to share tips on how to cook a drunken chicken. Its not about having a new 50, its not about getting fat loot, its not about being the best in PvP.
For the people that want to slam farmers, I say I can agree with you on some points.
It stinks to constantly hear in chat a beg for a PL or an AE. I can bet part of it is resentment for not getting on a team, and part the feeling that it is cheating in some way.
Heck, I used to get so annoyed at the huge crowd of begging lowbies in PI, I would go grab a few Monsters and bring them back to Portal Corp, and leave them to clear house. Or I would invite someone that was begging for at least 2 hours straight, tp them into a guardtower and kick them from the team. But that was back in the day, and you can not do that much anymore.
But lets be honest. If you do anything more than once, and you repeat the same content more than once, you are in a small way, farming that content. If you do a daily ITF, you are farming the merits. If you are a marketer, buying, selling and making profit, you are farming the market. When you are chasing after a million rikti monkeys for the Zookeeper badge, you are farming.
I guess my point is this. For the bad that is in this game, for all the annoying personalities, for all the haters and whiners, for all the people that just will not let others have their version of fun. I wish you would all lighten up. For all the ones that want to make changes so others have to play by your own personal vision of what the game is, please, let it go.
I do not want sweeping change, I do not want to let go of the comfortable way I can relax at the end of the day. I do not want to get annoyed at people that either cry about a nerf, or cry for a nerf. I just want to put on my under-roos for a few hours each night and play whatever way the game will let me play. If its grinding out map after map of burnt baddies, or an ITF, or making money on the market, or getting that new shiny defeat badge, I want to have the freedom to do so.
I would think that more people would be ok with that. But like certain body parts, everyone has an opinion, they feel they are right, that others are wrong, and most people I see on the forums feel like they must win all arguments.
Me. I just want to play. To remember that small bit of wonderment I had as a kid, watching Saturday morning cartoons for 6 hours straight, and imagining if I hung a beach towel from the back of my collar and made a swoosh sound as I ran around the backyard, that I was really a superhero.
Maybe more of us could try and remember that too. -
could you use the animation that the mastermind soliders use when they get upgraded where a big gunny sack gets tossed on the ground?
-
You are tying what most people do when a new issue hits the live servers. And in all 15 issues I have been around for. This type of stuff is common. The servers act all wonky for a few weeks before all the bugs get worked through and things begin to level out.
Try and be patient.
These aren't the droids you're looking for... -
To TyrantMikey,
I have a similar memory. But it envolves Rifts.
A buddy of mine was playing a character that was essentially Thor from the comics. A long time RPG friend of mine was playing a toon with Create Forcefield and lots of PE so he had some strong shields.
Now they come upon a town in the forest, being attacked by flying monsters. In the course of the fight, one of the two story buildings catches fire by a critical miss from one of the lasers the group had. The heroes hear from the 2nd floor the cries of a few children.
The Thor clone says to me, "I swing my hammer at the wall with all my strength!!"
I ask him, "Are you trying to get into the building"
Thor goes.."Yes, As fast as possible, I MUST SAVE THE CHILDREN!!!"
I say, "Are you sure you want to use all of your strength??"
Thor says.."Of course!"
Ok.."Well, You see the entire wall go crashing in..And knock through the supports of the entire building and smash through the other side"
"You begin hearing the entire building creaking and groaning from the weight of the building resting on just two of the four outer walls!"
What do you do?!? I ask Thor the Mighty!
He says.."I jump through the 1st floor ceiling and get to the kids" I mentally smack my forehead and say.
"So..let me get this straight. You have in the span of 4 seconds, Destroyed two walls, and the internal supports for a two story building, and have now jumped your nearly 7 foot tall, 350 lb frame through a ceiling, to help "Save" some kids."
He goes.."Yup".
I go..ok..one second.
Look at my friend who has some sense and say..."What do you do after seeing Thor smash out two walls and can hear the groaning of the building from the street 100 feet away where you stand.??"
He says, " I Put up Forcefield bubbles up in the middle of the first floor to help prop up the building." I say..ok sounds good, and by the way you have a monster flying at you at about 50 miles an hour.
He says. Well...how can I shape this force field bubble.
I say, "As a sphere, a box, a pyramid, any simple shape."
He says. "Well, can I turn it at an angle?"
I say, "Sure, show me what you mean" I hand him a d4, a d6, and a d30"
He picks the d6, turns it so the point of it is facing me..and says "I place it in front of the monster with the point at its chest"
I give him a to hit roll.
He makes it.
The monster collides with a hard-edged object at 50 mph. The forcefield is now covered in gore. And the building has enough support to get Thor the Moron out of it with kids in tow.
Sometimes, the easiest solution is the best! -
Ok. I will try and not be snarky. I will say, that there are holes in the Fire Armor set that need to be looked at. You have no knockback, or immobilize protection. Before there was IO sets, the usual build for a Fire Armor had to have these pools, Fighting, Jumping, Fitness and most of the time Hasten. Now, with IO sets you can sometimes, depending on money or luck, get by very well without being forced into a build.
Super Strength goes very nicely with Fire Armor. The ticks of damage you see on a Blazing Aura when Rage, Fiery Embrace, and a near full Fury bar is giddy fun. It is a endurance hog but you get tools to help, or just keep a full tray of blues.
The set, when you get into the higher levels, which to me is in around 33 or 34, starts to shine. By then, you could have all your defenses set up, a not full attack chain, but Blazing Aura has been shown in the past to be a good resource for damage, with a good fun factor mixed in. Teamed with a Fire/Kin Cor, you will just mow through missions.
Have fun, And blaze away. -
You hide by turning completely into stone or sink into the ground. Makes me wish this game had a way to act like a badger.
-
Ok, off the top of my head, with no mid's to use, I can say this.
A stoner needs (imho) only Rock Armor, Rooted, Earth's Embrace, and Granite.
Tough, and Weave help, if you intend to "Tank". Mudpots is usefull as a taunt tool but is endurance hungry.
The other Stone Armor shields are good set Mules. Allowing you to slot in more LotG's global pieces if you care to. Or Aegis two slotted for the run speed. Or to whatever flavor you choose.
Overall, recharge and damage should be your priorty. TP helps make up for the lack of run speed to keep fury up, but takes time to get used to.
Mostly I would want to know how you plan on using your Stoner, to help you choose the best course. -
Concrete. I agree that willpower makes it fun to Smash. But of the options for secondary that the OP gave, I gave reasons for Ela. The end drain is tough for any of the possible options. It would be killer to go a buzzsaw build were you maximize your fury bar, and let the damage aura to the work.
But if I could pick I would go Dark/Ela. Just for the way you can off set the various issues, and be an interesting concept. -
Well that just chaps my hide. GRRrrr Arggh!
Thanks Sharker for clearing that up! -
Well, here is an example. I am running with my vg and we are all the way out by Technician Naylor in Nerva. I am full of enhancments I would rather just seel, and recipes I have no use for. Now, I have characters that have Naylor as a contact, that I can sell my overloaded stuff to. But, my current character does not. I missed picking him up.
I know I can go into Oroboros and do a story arc for Naylor in the 35-40 range. I was just wondering if by doing the arc, I could open up the option to sell stuff to him. I just have no idea if it doable or not.
Guess I was not clear enough in my first post. -
I was running a character through my story arcs, and realized I missed a few that I simply out leveled.
Now, I know using Oroboros, I can go back a do a mission arc or two, but does that open up a missed contact so I can sell stuff like recipes and enhancments, as well as buying inspirations or does the that option not open up?
Thanks for any help -
For an interesting pick, go for ss/ela. The armor itself is missing a heal, but you have two end recovery powers, besides taking stamina. You will be able to leverage Lightning Reflexes into helping with attack chains, rage and hasten recharge, as well as a damage aura to supplement Footstomp. A patron pool like Mu would be theamatic and also a bit fun, though Soul Mastery would work if you plan on pvp'ing. The neat thing with this combo would be seeing just how many different kinds of IO sets you could leverage. If you find or buy into the Purples, then you have a wealth of options, from AOE, Range, Targeted AOE, Hold, Stun, Melee, Pets and Immob. Just my 2 cents.
-
I have had a Stoner since oh..about issue 3. And at one point, for a lark, I took Jump Kick, and Whirlwind. Its funny to do a handstand and kick in Granite with Rooted on. Whirlwind works, just the end is insane. But for a few days, it was funny to see.
