    Gee, that sounds really familiar...

Always good to reaffirm that I've got my finger on the pulse of the development team, I guess.

Heck, left to its own devices, I'm pretty sure nature would take care of that by itself. As proven with the honey badger, nature can be quite nasty.

Between that comment and the image in your post, I'm suddenly now wondering:

Is it okay to look a dead gift horse in the mouth?

Not that I'm an expert or have secret knowledge about this promotion, but I'm going to answer this anyway:

Sure, just don't log into the market and click on it. If you can't NOT do that, then, well... maybe see a doctor about your compulsive behavior?

I really think it's more of them coming up with a way to get "hold outs" who never open the store to do so every now and then because eventually they'll go "OOH, I MUST HAVE THAT!" and buy something while they're picking up the free item. And to that effect, I expect them to have a greater than 0% success rate.

If that still sounds like desperation, well, remember that these items have no overhead cost or physical limit... Once an item has been developed and added to the store, that's it, it no longer costs them anything to sell. There's no delivery fee and no sales staff to pay to transition that virtual product into your virtual hands, just a few electrons travelling from your mouse to their server. It's not desperate to give out a free piece of candy that infinitely replicates and costs them literally nothing by the point you actually take it if the only thing they expect in return is that more people will visit the store, is it?

I dunno that it's necessarily as small as you're thinking, either. But I do know that a friend of mine on Facebook thought they might be giving out free Hecatomb sets, and I did laugh at him for it.

I'm expecting something more along the lines of a 5x pack of insps or rez powers or something, but almost definitely something consumable.

I think it's pretty safe to say that everybody likes free stuff.

Unless it's cancer. Or infectious disease. Or rotten food. Or a kick to the nads.

But otherwise, yeah, totally. Free stuff.
  8. I'm down for this Freebie Friday thing. Let's roll this pancake.

That's not entirely true. Hulks are always more useful than Black Widows in CoH.

The point is that it doesn't mean that Black Widows are useless. Black Widow can still clear a room full of bad guys, even if she doesn't do it in 20 seconds like the Hulk.
  10. Happy belated, Masque! Glad it was interesting, but I hope it was fun too!

Not arguing that it's not expensive, but some people value their time over their money.

I bought the Hecatomb set a couple weeks back to use on a character simply because I didn't want to spend months doing nothing but farming to get him kitted out the way I wanted. I consider $12.50 (what I paid) a not altogether unfair price given that I can now play content that I want to play instead of spending months grinding the same mission(s) over and over again.

That's why I always list them as Enhancement Boosters when I do my weekly Paragon Market updates.

Them failing "someday" was never a question. MMOs don't last forever, no matter how badly some of us may want them to.

Paragon Studios focusing on a hybrid model--pushing for both subscription AND microtransaction revenue--was a pretty bold move. So far it seems to be paying off for them, so I don't think we have to worry that "someday" will be "soon™ day."

    -----
I also don't really think of the ability to buy enhancements is truly "pay to win," because (a) they simultaneously have both minor advantages and disadvantages over in-game enhancements, and (b) the only thing you "win" is a few dozen hours of free time back that would have otherwise been spent farming.

Unless they start selling items in the Paragon Market that are both vastly superior to regular IOs and unavailable outside of paying real money for them, I'm just going to roll my eyes anytime someone says "pay to win."

(But hey, at least they're not saying "slap in the face.")

It JUST started being tested on i23 beta last week and there are still effects missing from certain parts, so I wouldn't expect it until after Issue 23 has been launched. There are still several other things coming in the meantime--the Panther Travel Power for sure, since that began testing during the i22 beta, and I know they're looking to release the new Performance Amplifiers as soon as they can as well.

It depends on how you slot them. When I bother to try slotting purples in a character, I'll slot 5 in a single power (all but the Damage) for the set bonuses. The global accuracy, recharge and regen/recovery bonuses are way too attractive for me to use purples as frankenslot fodder.

And once you've done that, there's no real point in boosting them anymore, because most of the stats they're enhancing are already above the ED cap. (Maaaaybe you want to boost the one that enhances Endurance Reduction in the power, since that's the only stat that won't have hit ED.)

Of course, if you're just slotting them one or two in a variety of powers, then sure, boost away.
  18. Additional sales not shown above:
    • Enhancement Unslotters for 25% off!
      • Enhancement Unslotter x1 was 120, now 90 Paragon Points!
      • Enhancement Unslotter x3 was 300, now 225 Paragon Points!
      • Enhancement Unslotter x5 was 450, now 338 Paragon Points!
      • Sale ends 14 May, 2012, at approximately 11:59PM PDT

(I already PMed Freitag about it, so it'll probably get added to the official list soon.)
  19. Tuesday again, which means NEW STUFFS DAY!

EDIT: OP and spreadsheet have been updated.
  20. Let's see here... "first goal will be to purge the AE of farmers" yada yada...

"eradicate farm arcs, leaving no trace behind"...

"cut off the supply of influence and experience to Mission AE so these cretins will not return"...

    Typos and grammar mistakes...

Oh, hey, custom NPCs with no attacks called "Doorsitters," how original. But there's way more than 7 of them in there, so obviously you made a mistake somewhere.

NPCs have backgrounds, but there's missing flavor text everywhere (the accept mission text is just "Accept").

Oh, here we go, start of mission two... Your idea is that we should pay 800 Paragon Points ($10 US) when we publish a story arc, and then every time it gets played by someone the author will earn Paragon Points?

Yeah. You're insane, this idea is bad. You're pretty blatantly insulting to anyone who does farm in the AE, calling them cretins and insects. You're even mildly insulting to people who write actual arcs, implying that they're hopeless despots living in the slums because they're not getting exposure.

Furthermore, you want to dramatically add to the list of features, such as "improved AI" (which is laughable given the AI issues we've already been having since Issue 22 launched), build-your-own-attack-chains, forcing players to play your arc as one of your custom NPCs, and the ability to write league trials with branching paths? I'm pretty sure Dr. Aeon would give his left arm for access to that stuff when he's writing official content, let alone AE arcs. (Except for the playing as custom NPCs bit, which is something that they've obviously been experimenting with in the last couple issues and will be further implementing with their new pop-up power tray in Issue 23.)

Oh, and badges and unique enhancements for authoring AE missions? Because the former didn't blow up in anyone's face back in Issue 14, and the latter is certainly not going to encourage farming at all. Also, "PVP inside AE missions" without any description of how it would work, just throwing it out as a bone to people who want more PVP stuff to do in the hopes of luring them to your side.

And your suggestion on how to get people to play the new vetted story missions is just... I'd say it's facepalm worthy, but really, my head doesn't need any more damage at this point, so I'm going to say it's face punch worthy, because now I'm talking about yours instead of mine. You want to take IOs away from all other content in the game and them only accessible via AE tickets. Furthermore, you want to take all the IOs we currently have away to be regained exclusively playing AE missions. Yeah, that's not going to encourage farming at all.

I can't tell if this is thing you've written is a vastly detailed troll post, a poor attempt at satire or just plain lunacy. You barely address any of the other hurdles that authors face outside of farms, such as griefers grouping together to downvote other people's arcs so theirs would stay more prevalent in the listings.

I give this whole thing 2 stars. It would have been 3 purely for the effort you put in, but the second mission pissed me off too much, trying to find those nearly-invisible spots to place those tablets and hunting down the few and far between hostages on an open outdoor map.

Players can re-enable the functionality by adding -supportHardwareLights in the "Extra Command Line Paramaters (Advanced)" field in the NCsoft Launcher Properties.
I thought I remembered there being a patch where AlienFX had been disabled...
  22. http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Patch_...lienFX_Updates

    Quote:
Paragon Studios and Alienware have brought increased functionality to Alienware systems with AlienFX lights and Alienware Command Center enabled.
Health Low – When a character’s health is low, system lights will go black and will then quickly pulse red.
Health Zero – When your character is defeated, system lights will go black and will then slowly pulse red.
Mission Completion – Successfully completing a mission will trigger two green flashes.
Level up – When gaining a level, a multi-colored strobing light effect will appear.
    Known Issue:
The new AlienFX updates do not function correctly with Aurora and Aurora ALX desktop systems. Alienware is aware of this issue and will be releasing a driver that will correct this functionality. Dell and Paragon Studios will update Aurora desktop customers when the driver is available on the Dell/Alienware support site.
Maybe you need to download an updated driver from the website? *shrug*

    Day Job bug?

I will point out that while you can earn credit for redside Day Job badges as a Vigilante, you won't actually get the badges themselves until you become a Villain or a Rogue.

(Same goes for Rogues and blueside Day Jobs.)

Believe that's Nega-Pendragon, a new enemy found in the Magisterium trial. He also plays heavily in the new Night Ward story arcs, so I won't give any spoilers about who he is or why he's like that.
