That's because Hasten is bugged to play the activation animation even when the power is unavailable.

Until that gets fixed, there won't be a way to use an emote instead of the Hasten animation.

And I'm arguing that it's not. Your analogy started out flawed and continues to be flawed, and you keep shouting the same things over and over. Nobody has made any personal attacks against you, least of all me. Though you did call me pretentious, so I could say that you're the one resorting to personal attacks.

You want to stay with the restaurant analogy, fine. Here's how it works:

Look, you can take this as a personal attack or whatever, but you are underestimating the value of a power that any character on your account can use at any time. There is a pricing discrepancy on single/limited character use items and account-wide items because they're either limited or account-wide. Unless you're going to delete every character you've ever made and remake them all using one premium power set, then a premium travel power that can be used on any character, new or existing, has more utility to your account. That's not to say it'll be more enjoyable to any individual player, just that it's more useful to the account as a whole.

It's a new technology that they've wanted in the game for years but only finally got working recently (October 2011 was the first live use of the four legged rig, used on stationary wolves in the Halloween event). They are doing a bit of making up for lost time, but a Beast set for Masterminds has been one of the most requested power sets from the community ever since Masterminds were a thing.

But you can breathe a sigh of relief; it does seem like they're slowing down a bit with the four legged stuff. The only thing using it in Issue 23 that I know of is a new boss in the Magisterium trial and potentially the Night Ward content. Beyond that, I know of exactly one other use of the four legged rig for players on the way, but that was wrongfully leaked and therefore shan't be discussed until an official announcement is made. (And there's probably some lions in the Time Gladiator summer blockbuster event.)

I do know for a fact that there are no other four legged pets or transformations being currently tested on beta, so it'll be months before another one comes along.

There are two costume sets coming free (for VIPs) with i23 and another launching along side it for Paragon Reward Tier 9 VIPs at the cost of 3 reward tokens.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that Retro Sci-Fi won't be launching until at least 2-3 weeks after i23 goes live.

Are you sure about that, Rod? They said someone should be able to transfer characters off of the Exalted server if they dropped to Premium, and you CAN'T unlock a character on it.

People buy $5 condiments all the time, dude. You go to the store, buy a giant bottle of ketchup, and put it in your fridge to use however and whenever you want. You can even use it with the $10 steak that the store also sells if that's how you roll.

Your analogy doesn't work, because there ARE people willing to pay nearly the cost of a meal (or even over it) for some fancy condiments that they really like. You're not one of those people. And to be honest, I'm not either. But you're arguing against other peoples' tastes and how they want to spend their money, and neither of those arguments are going to end with you looking like the hero.

I would totally pay 650 Paragon Points to see you walk into a grocery store and argue that they shouldn't be charging for condiments, though.

You don't see why someone would want to spend their money on this. Fair point, but people do want to spend their money on the Panther power and don't feel they're being ripped off. Don't buy it if it's not worth it to you, end of story.

Or is this whole thing you complaining because you really really REALLY want the Panther power for yourself but can't justify spending a little over $8 on it?

The Panther power can be used on ALL characters, existing or brand new.

A new power set requires starting a brand new character. It does nothing for your existing characters.

Right. The only premium costume set that's being tested right now is the Retro Sci-Fi set (and I really wouldn't expect it to launch alongside Issue 23).

The other costume sets--Mecha, Leather and Chainmail Armor--are all unlockable by VIPs, just like Venom said. Mecha requires you have 3 tokens above Paragon Rewards Tier 9, and Leather and Chainmail are just for having an active subscription.

Seems like it would be better to make one generic "toggle on" animation for each travel power and have it inherit the animation duration of each individual toggle. Then either suppress any enemy-affecting toggles (as with Hide) or make it so they can't be used in travel mode (as with Rise to the Challenge when mezzed).

As an example: Having a coyote that rears its head back and howls every time I flip a toggle back on might be annoying, but it'd be significantly better than not having any defenses at all while transformed.

By "vanity pet" you mean "premium travel power," right?

Pets don't affect your other powers in any way, but the Rocket Board, Flying Carpet, Coyote Transformation and now Panther Stealth powers all restrict you from being able to use any other powers at all.

Technically, that was the schedule for the pilot run; odds are pretty good that they'll be running either 0:00 to 23:59 or 6:00 to 23:59 on PACIFIC time, since that's how their store normally runs.

But that's not a certain thing, either. We won't know the actual schedule until Freebie Fridays makes it out of its beta phase. Just keep an eye on redname posts in the meantime.

Eesh. I've seen your horror stories. Not all retail is like that, but I imagine that your sort of business gets more crazies than most.

Though honestly, now I'm realizing that there's no way I'd want to read the developers' inboxes. With the kind of crazy pancakes that get openly posted on the forum, I'm wondering how much insanity goes straight into PMs? Anonymity is a terrible, terrible privilege sometimes.

That, and since only about 10% of the playerbase reads the forums, there would have been a whole lot of angst from people who missed out on a "cool" freebie because they didn't know about the promotion. Starting out with something describable as "common" was probably the right move to go for testing out this program.

Maybe this week's freebie was nothing to write home about, but so what? It's plenty useful for anyone who's got any characters who haven't hit level 50 yet.

The Freebie Friday promotion also isn't about rewarding VIPs--if you're still holding on to the idea that it should be, then scrub that entitlement right out of your thick skull or you will continue to be disappointed and promptly ridiculed for said disappointment. The freebie is for everyone, be they a VIP, premium, or completely free player.
