Freebie Friday item this week:
1x Guarding Imbuement Team Dual Insp -
Quote:I made a steampunk leprechaun superhero named Pot O'Brass... >_>The superhero genre can accommodate anything and everything (even though I can't think of a single leprechaun hero or villain, either) but there's no such thing as a comic book universe where all the heroes have access to and any utilize a companion leprechaun.
(No, I did not buy the leprechaun pet for him.)

Quote:My apologies, there is in fact only one way to see and enjoy that movie, so here's a better sample:

(Instead, I went and saw The Avengers again.)

Yeah, they were on track for what I assumed to be a May 15 release. The whole beta process was smooth and relatively bug free.
Then they patched on Friday afternoon, and KAPOW! BUGS ABOUND!
... This is why I quit coding and went into computer repair instead. -
Quote:That's because Hasten is bugged to play the activation animation even when the power is unavailable.Currently, when I try it when hasten isn't up, it still performs the hasten activation, and doesn't perform the emote.
Until that gets fixed, there won't be a way to use an emote instead of the Hasten animation. -

Quote:And I'm arguing that it's not. Your analogy started out flawed and continues to be flawed, and you keep shouting the same things over and over. Nobody has made any personal attacks against you, least of all me. Though you did call me pretentious, so I could say that you're the one resorting to personal attacks.I was stating my opinion of the price discrepancy of 650 points versus 800 points. A huge difference of what you are paying for versus what you are getting.
You want to stay with the restaurant analogy, fine. Here's how it works:
Quote:You and your friends (all your existing characters) are sitting at a table at a buffet restaurant. For $10, any new friends you make can come in and eat a steak (use a new power set), but none of your existing friends are allowed to have any at all. For $8.13, all of your existing friends AND any new friends you make can have unlimited soda (Panther travel power), no matter what their meal is.
If you have a lot of friends that would like to drink soda or a couple friends who really really like soda, then the $8 is worth it. If you don't have a lot of chairs left at your table (empty character slots), then it might even be MORE worth it to buy unlimited soda for everybody than to buy steak for more friends... unless you also want to pay for more chairs at the table, anyway. -
Quote:It's a new technology that they've wanted in the game for years but only finally got working recently (October 2011 was the first live use of the four legged rig, used on stationary wolves in the Halloween event). They are doing a bit of making up for lost time, but a Beast set for Masterminds has been one of the most requested power sets from the community ever since Masterminds were a thing.Although it's not the worst item I've seen, it occurs to me that the four legged rig seems to have possesed the dev's lately. We have four legged beasts beast as powers, various vanity pets and now travel powers, in my view it's been greatly over-used now.
But you can breathe a sigh of relief; it does seem like they're slowing down a bit with the four legged stuff. The only thing using it in Issue 23 that I know of is a new boss in the Magisterium trial and potentially the Night Ward content. Beyond that, I know of exactly one other use of the four legged rig for players on the way, but that was wrongfully leaked and therefore shan't be discussed until an official announcement is made. (And there's probably some lions in the Time Gladiator summer blockbuster event.)
I do know for a fact that there are no other four legged pets or transformations being currently tested on beta, so it'll be months before another one comes along. -
There are two costume sets coming free (for VIPs) with i23 and another launching along side it for Paragon Reward Tier 9 VIPs at the cost of 3 reward tokens.
I think it's a pretty safe bet that Retro Sci-Fi won't be launching until at least 2-3 weeks after i23 goes live. -
Quote:Are you sure about that, Rod? They said someone should be able to transfer characters off of the Exalted server if they dropped to Premium, and you CAN'T unlock a character on it.You can delete a locked character. You cannot move a locked character. You must first unlock the character, then unlock a slot on the destination server to move a character.

Quote:People buy $5 condiments all the time, dude. You go to the store, buy a giant bottle of ketchup, and put it in your fridge to use however and whenever you want. You can even use it with the $10 steak that the store also sells if that's how you roll.Condiment sauce can be used for all and current foods. Is the sauce justifiable to have at a price of roughly 2/3 the price of a full meal? Are you seriously saying that the "value" of the condiment sauce is worth the price in RELATIVE comparison with a meal?
Your analogy doesn't work, because there ARE people willing to pay nearly the cost of a meal (or even over it) for some fancy condiments that they really like. You're not one of those people. And to be honest, I'm not either. But you're arguing against other peoples' tastes and how they want to spend their money, and neither of those arguments are going to end with you looking like the hero.
I would totally pay 650 Paragon Points to see you walk into a grocery store and argue that they shouldn't be charging for condiments, though.
Quote:Given the amount of points one must spend on a "vanity" travel power for 650 points whereas a Powerset is 800 points--the overall cost comparison is still justifiable?
Realistically, there's a huge discrepancy in what you are paying for and what you are getting. This was my point. "
Or is this whole thing you complaining because you really really REALLY want the Panther power for yourself but can't justify spending a little over $8 on it? -
Quote:The Panther power can be used on ALL characters, existing or brand new.1. Panther "vanity" power for 650 points.
2. An ENTIRE powerset, Staff Fighting, 800 points.
A new power set requires starting a brand new character. It does nothing for your existing characters.

Quote:Like someone else pointed out, Mech Armor will be a Tier 9 VIP reward, not buyable, and the other set, the leather and chain? Will be given to everyone for free when I23 comes out. Also no need to buy.
The other costume sets--Mecha, Leather and Chainmail Armor--are all unlockable by VIPs, just like Venom said. Mecha requires you have 3 tokens above Paragon Rewards Tier 9, and Leather and Chainmail are just for having an active subscription. -
Quote:Seems like it would be better to make one generic "toggle on" animation for each travel power and have it inherit the animation duration of each individual toggle. Then either suppress any enemy-affecting toggles (as with Hide) or make it so they can't be used in travel mode (as with Rise to the Challenge when mezzed).Actually, there is a rationale for it, and it's been posted previously by Clockwork 01, the Associate Producer for the game.
As an example: Having a coyote that rears its head back and howls every time I flip a toggle back on might be annoying, but it'd be significantly better than not having any defenses at all while transformed. -
Quote:By "vanity pet" you mean "premium travel power," right?Yeh the only beef I have, besides overcrowding the market with vanity pets early on, is the part about detoggling your protection. I understand that the power trays will not be accessable during the pet power because of lack of animations with many click powers or attack animations in the game, but for armors and other toggles that are merely cosmetic with no animations to be turned off, makes me hate the vanity pets more than some appeal to me.
Pets don't affect your other powers in any way, but the Rocket Board, Flying Carpet, Coyote Transformation and now Panther Stealth powers all restrict you from being able to use any other powers at all. -
Sorry DumpleBerry. Had to stay up late last night washing all the stuff my roommate's dog peed on.
But it is Tuesday, which means NEW STUFFS DAY!
Today, we've got the new Panther Stealth Power for 650 Paragon Points. Using it will turn you into a black panther, increasing your running and jumping abilities considerably, though it will disable all your attack powers. However, while in Panther form, you're also granted an extra power that allows you to toggle stealth on and off, allowing you to sneak by your enemies undetected.
For sales, we have the following:- Beast Run Power for 25% off (375PP)
- BUNDLE: Animal Costume Pieces for 20% off (320PP)
- Only the bundle is on sale, not the individual costume pieces
- Coyote Travel Power for 25% off (450PP)
EDIT: Finally got the OP updated... couldn't log in earlier due to the forum bug. -
Quote:Technically, that was the schedule for the pilot run; odds are pretty good that they'll be running either 0:00 to 23:59 or 6:00 to 23:59 on PACIFIC time, since that's how their store normally runs.Looking foward to this Freebie Friday giveaway remember the time zone thing starts the 24 hour clock 00:00 to 23:59 based on the BST and adjust accordingly.
But that's not a certain thing, either. We won't know the actual schedule until Freebie Fridays makes it out of its beta phase. Just keep an eye on redname posts in the meantime.
Quote:Feedback:
I think on Freebie Friday not just on the launcher or the home page announcing it that it would generate more interest in Market use if it appeared as a GMotD on log in once you are in game. This would alert people who never visit the forums or homepage, and be a reminder to all players who might have forgotten about the promotion. -
Indeed, happy mother's day to the soon-to-be mother MP, and to all others who are raising children (or are putting up with a manchild husband)!

Eesh. I've seen your horror stories. Not all retail is like that, but I imagine that your sort of business gets more crazies than most.
Though honestly, now I'm realizing that there's no way I'd want to read the developers' inboxes. With the kind of crazy pancakes that get openly posted on the forum, I'm wondering how much insanity goes straight into PMs? Anonymity is a terrible, terrible privilege sometimes. -
Quote:... Did not miss the point (I already had a couple posts in this thread before going all Grammar Hulk on yours), but you did prove me wrong about "whine" being spelled with a G.Oh dear me - there are so many more points with this thread than a simple typographical error in a post. Somehow I think you have missed the point and also do not have a point- do calm down son.

BAH, British spellings and crazy *** pronunciations. -
Quote:That, and since only about 10% of the playerbase reads the forums, there would have been a whole lot of angst from people who missed out on a "cool" freebie because they didn't know about the promotion. Starting out with something describable as "common" was probably the right move to go for testing out this program. If they'd started with something more interesting the reaction when the next freebie didn't 'measure up' would've caused a collective whine so powerful a wormhole would've opened up and swallowed the earth.
Maybe this week's freebie was nothing to write home about, but so what? It's plenty useful for anyone who's got any characters who haven't hit level 50 yet.
The Freebie Friday promotion also isn't about rewarding VIPs--if you're still holding on to the idea that it should be, then scrub that entitlement right out of your thick skull or you will continue to be disappointed and promptly ridiculed for said disappointment. The freebie is for everyone, be they a VIP, premium, or completely free player. -
