Well, I just discovered this morning that another MMOG I play was hacked and had its customer database stolen. That's the second time this year that a MMOG I play was hacked and had its customer database stolen. I still have a few complimentary months remaining on a credit report service from the first time!
While this hasn't happened to City of Heroes... yet... with the way things are going, it's only a matter of time.
Why is there still no authenticator? Whether it be mobile or physical, (preferably physical?) While this wouldn't prevent a hacker from obtaining my information, it would at least prevent someone else from logging onto my account with the stolen information and would give a little peace of mind. -

Thanks to everyone that came out and celebrated a Very Rikti Christmas. Congratulations to all of the winners!

Just fyi to my fellow iPad owners, the Meek Hero Planner has finally been updated for Issue 21. It's not Mids', but it's not bad. For more information, see here. Easily worth the $2, imo.

Quote:Winter holidays... Christmas / Hanukkah / New Year.By holiday themed costume... which holiday are we talking about? Can it be construed as any holiday? IE can I where my bunny suit for Easter, stars and stripes for Independence day, or what about Boxing day, since it is around this time...
Just looking for clarification. What I might be thinking might not be what is being asked for. >.> -
Quote:Hey! My mothership raids rock! Besides, I announced my event (not just a mothership raid) approximately three weeks before this contest was announced. I'm thankful that Paragon Studios decided to move their costume contest to Virtue instead, as A Very Rikti Christmas is something I planned and have been working towards for a while. Four billion INF for prizes didn't come from nowhere, LOL.Sad that you didn't move it to include more people but instead because it bounced up against a MSR.
Speaking of which, I hope to see a lot of people in the Exalted server Rikti War Zone tonight at 8 P.M. ET / 5 P.M. PT. I ran it last year on the Champion server, and it was a lot of fun. -
Quote:No offense, but that's Triumph, one of the lowest populated North American servers. There's a reason why I move all of my level 50 toons I no longer care to play there. There isn't enough interest to get many Undergrounds, TPN, and MoMs going on Triumph.
That's nice, but like I said earlier, like it or not, that's what CoH has become. You can either choose to deal with it, or ignore the endgame raiding content. You still have plenty of things to do from levels one through 50. -
No, it won't. Personally, I much prefer large team and multi-team content to solo and small team content, and most of the Incarnate trials are fun. I see myself running the new Dark Astoria content once for badges then going right on back to the Incarnate trials. I know I'm not the only one.

I've used ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus since 2005 and love it. It's small, uses few system resources, and very effective. No issues with it running in the background while playing any game.
Currently, I have:
1. Netgear router with firewall between the cable modem and my computers
2. ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus
3. MalwareBytes Anti-Malware Pro, set to proactively protect
4. Windows Firewall enabled
5. Windows Defender set to run a full system scan weekly -
This is today, y'all! I hope to see y'all in the War Zone by 8 P.M. ET / 5 P.M. PT.

There's a lot of assumption in this thread. "No one likes Underground, TPN, and MoM." Um, speak for yourself. Underground is my favorite Trial. TPN isn't far behind. In fact, the only trials I don't like are Lambda and Keyes.
The main two problems with these trials are 1. weak leadership, and 2. people trying to bring unlevelshifted level 50s, or level 50s that are only levelshifted +1, to them. These are not trials that are meant for them. Either one is enough to sink the trial.
Whether anyone likes it or not, City of Heroes became an endgame raiding game in Issue 20. Like any other MMOG with endgame raiding, they have tiers.
Tier 1 (Level 50): Apex TF and Tin Mage TF
Tier 2 (Level 50+1): BAF Trial, Lambda Trial, and Keyes Trial
Tier 3 (Level 50+2): Underground Trial
Tier 4 (Level 50+3): TPN Trial and MoM Trial -
Personally, I find it rather inconsiderate to join even a BAF or Lambda Trial unlevelshifted. You're just making it harder on everyone else to succeed. It's not that hard to run three or four task / strike forces upon reaching Level 50 to get the parts you need to obtain a Tier 3 Alpha. When my newest toon dinged level 50, I ran an ITF, STF, and LGTF over two nights and got everything I needed to obtain a Tier 3 Cardiac Alpha, and then proceeded to join iTrials.
As to unlevelshifted level 50s joining TPNs and MoMs and making the trials fail... simple. Don't invite them. A friend of mine ran a TPN the other night. We had a whole team of unlevelshifted level 50s. Unsurprisingly, most of them were melee. Before we began, my friend asked everyone on that team to switch to a levelshifted toon. All but one just quit. So we just ran with what we had. You know what though? We ran the TPN and beat it easily. -
My Dual Pistols / Dark Miasma Corruptor is anything but squishy. Between Darkest Night, Howling Twilight, Shadow Fall, Fearsome Stare, Fluffy, and soft-capped smashing / lethal defense from Scorpion Shield and IO set bonuses, she's nigh untouchable. I realize this isn't quite what you're looking for, but it's about as close as you're going to get in game. Dark Miasma is a very powerful, and more importantly for this conversation, very safe secondary. The only issue is with mezzing, but you can get around that with Break Frees, and eventually Clarion Core Destiny.

Any word on the status of this bug? I have pretty much stopped playing the game, 'cause the random mapserves upon zoning and then locking up is danged annoying, especially when it occurs while I'm leading a trial.
-
You may have heard of this little event "A Very Rikti Christmas" I'm putting together for tomorrow night. Admittedly, it's a bit late for Europeans. Dang my having a job.
What is this "Boxing Day" of which you speak, btw? Is it a day where everyone goes outside on the snow and ice and plays hockey?
Edit: On a serious note, I stopped playing City of Heroes for the most part until Paragon Studios fixes the dang random mapserve upon zoning bug that locks up the game. Until then, I'm currently in a galaxy far, far away. -
This is in two days, y'all! Get those holiday costumes ready!

Just fyi, their event on December 22nd has been moved to the Virtue server. It will no longer be on Exalted.

Quote:First of all, welcome!Hey! Don't mean to dirty up the clean and elite forums of the Exalted, but I'm quite curious about the server myself. I'm contemplating moving over one of my 50's to it, but I'm not sure if it is a wise decision or not. So, I have a few questions about the server that I'd be grateful to have answered if anyone happens to know the answers to them.
Is there a high amount of level 50 activity? (Trials, RWZ, Story Arcs, etc.)
Is there RP? If so, is it active and is there a lot of it?
Should I expect elitism at its finesse? (High expectation of players on this server?) Or is the player base generally accepting of all ranges of players? (Casual - Hardcore - RPers)
Do the Devs "treat" or pay more attention to the population since it is -the- VIP server?
And finally, am I being unreasonable by asking these questions?
All and any responses are highly appreciated! I just don't want to make a pretty big decision and dislike it in the end. I'm sure others can understand my feelings.
1. Yes, there is plenty of level 50+ activity these days.
2. As for RP, none that I'm aware of. That doesn't mean there isn't RP on Exalted, but there hasn't been any that I've encountered.
3. There's very little elitism to be found on Exalted. Most people are friendly and welcoming. There's always those precious few, but those that either wanted Exalted to be or thought Exalted would be an elitist server where everyone was expected to be hardcore have moved on.
4. Nope, not unreasonable at all. If you have any questions, or need any help, feel free to contact me in game at @Celestial Lord. Your best bet to find activity quickly on the server would be to join one of the server global channels. I'd recommend either Exalted Events or Exalted League. To join Exalted Events, type in game: /chan_join "Exalted Events" To join Exalted League, type in game: /chan_join "Exalted League" -
Quote:See this thread. There are those, including myself, that have been experiencing this issue since Tuesday. It's basically making the game unplayable. The game has never crashed on me with any degree of regularity in the years that I've been playing it. I played last night until about 2am this morning and everything ran great. I turned my client off after I was done and have been at work all day. Nothing on my computer has changed since last night, as I'm the only person that could have made changes to it.
This evening it's taking an unusually long amount of time for CoH to connect to the the server menu, and my server. CoH is sluggish when the character list is populating (the models normally load instantly), and when I try to log in, it tells me I'm already logged in. When I try to log in a second time, it tells my I'm behind a firewall and it can't connect to the server. On the third time, it connects. This "three times to log in" issue has happened every time I have tried to log in this evening.
When I get into the game after the third try I can play fine and have no problems whatsoever until I try to zone or enter a mission, then CoH hangs.
When the game hangs it freezes at the "zone loading screen", and when I'm finally able to exit it, it shows my character on the map with a "mapserve" message.
I've ran into 4 other people this evening that are reporting similar conditions. I'm not sure what happened between 2am this morning and 6pm this evening, but those that I've talked to have indicated that they had no problems running the game yesterday either.
I've run the repair function and am not sure what else to do. Any advice would be appreciated. -
Okie, I thought it may just be using the various zone teleportation powers, but I just successfully base teleported while in Boomtown. It also can't be a memory leak, as it occured twice to me within minutes of starting up the game.
I dunno. It appears to be truly random. But it's making the game unplayable, that's for sure.
