Anti-virus Advice

I am running PC Spyware Doc (with the antivirus module) and have been pretty unhappy with how this software performs. Does anyone here have experience with either ESET NOD 32 or WebRoot SecureAnywhere-specifically how well they work and how game-friendly they are?Any advice would be appreciated.

No knowledge on NOD, but webroot of any variety is crap.

Here's how I keep my systems safe these days:
Router with firewall between cable modem and systems.
Microsoft Security Essentials
Monthly scans with Malwarebytes.
Windows firewall disabled.

Your mileage may vary.

Be well, people of CoH.

I use ESET Smart Security (the 'complete' version of Nod32) and it has always worked very well for me, never causing issues with game performance. I spend about 1/3 of the time on Windows since I'm a Mac user but been using ESET since my older mac (1.66 Core Duo running winXP) and the new one running W7 64 works just as well, never noticed performance decrease even on my old computer.

At work since AVG was causing slowdows (old pc) I installed Avira Antivir, but I barely use that computer and of course not for games, I put Avira there mostly because of recommendations from people here and also, it's free.

I've used ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus since 2005 and love it. It's small, uses few system resources, and very effective. No issues with it running in the background while playing any game.

Currently, I have:

1. Netgear router with firewall between the cable modem and my computers

2. ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus

3. MalwareBytes Anti-Malware Pro, set to proactively protect

4. Windows Firewall enabled

5. Windows Defender set to run a full system scan weekly

Yes, ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus does spyware as well. However, it's always helpful to have a second spyware program as well to at least do regular system checks.

Pretty much the same for me except I don't have the cable modem, just a wireless antenna connecting to the ISP's equipment on the water tower in town feeding into my router.

One thing to note about Nod32 is that it has detected false positives on CoH and it's updates at various times over the years. Some have set it to ignore the CoH directory to keep the program from causing problems with the updates.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I've installed ESET recently and have been having major problems with slowdowns. I have it set to enable gamer mode automatically with full screen applications, so I don't think that's an issue. Any advice?

I'm not sure what this HIPS business is, or whether that is related...

Using only Microsoft Security Essentials since its release and it works great and is light on the system with little to no overhead when gaming. I do a monthly scan as well with malwarebytes free version in safe mode. Keep in mind you only are supposed to run 1 antivirus. You can run or install malware removal tools as many as you like, just one anti-virus though. In my desktop support for students at the university I have seen students running as many as 6 anti-virus programs at once. People don't realize that more than one anti-virus = no anti-virus due to them conflicting with one another not to mention the huge performance hit you will take because of it. On the mac side I use Sophos which is another free anti-virus. It works really well too and is light on the system for gaming.

You can't go wrong with Microsoft Security Essentials, works great, and not nearly as intrusive as any of the other AV programs I've tried.
