I don't get it. How do people burn through three earned Respecs and all their free ones?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    FOTM. Min/max. Arena. PvP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sometimes it's just simple economics. If you don't have a lot of cash, you can respec at 22, 27, and 32 to pull out your old enhancements and sell them at full value (or 27, 32, 37--whatever 3 spots along the chain you like).

I've had to do that on servers where I don't have a lot of cash. Thankfully, I've had a freespec I can use first so I've only had to run the trial once for those handful of characters that have needed it.

Now boneheads like me will run and sell their tray full of enhs, go to respec, and then realize they shouldn't have sold anything. This is not an issue the devs can help me with.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Same reason I've used all of my own Respecs. Not everyone is comfortable with mooching influence/infamy off that giant-build tanker who insists on being called 'Daddy' for some reason.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I was a little dissapointed with the whole "free respec every issue" idea too... it's always bad when people get expectations of free stuff, because then it isn't appreciated.

But they've pretty much decided on it at this point, giving respecs when there have been no major changes. So... at this point, I'd expect one, but like others... not really appreciate it.

Zeus - god of expectation leading to a lack of appreciation

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd appreciate it to the point of hugging a dev for it. Then again, I've been hoping for one so I can fix Raura ever since I borked her with the I7 freespec.
  3. I want a big zappy bubble.

On the other hand, watching States spinning around like a Ballerina with claws out had to be about the funniest thing I've seen all week.

I think it depends on what you mean by "Imitation".

The reason I say this is, there are several definitions of imitation; and they run the gamut from what I feel would be truely flattering... to downright copyright infringment.

If you mean imitation in the "You stole my drawing/redrew my work and passed it off as yours" - yah, I'm right there with ya.

However, if you speak stylistically I'm not sure I can support your position. Everyone's style is going to be subtly different - but some styles (comic art in particular I find) has a degree of standarzation. Its hardly 'standardized' but there are certain things your going to see in comic art - regardless of who's doing it.

I also feel that imitation, in a sincere non-infringing way, is definitely flattering. The key is to let someone know who the originator of something is.

Example: Say I paint the Mona Lisa by looking off of DaVinci's; it'd be pretty dumb of me to try to claim I created the Mona Lisa; but it still shows some ability to re-create it. Imitation in this fashion is a stepping stone; it improves your skills. This kind of work you definitely definitely *must* cite the original creator - its their work; and in the case of a living person you *must* have their permission to do it.

Another example: Say I really like a given art style; I'll say Juggertha's to use one of this board's best known people. Juggy's style is damn unique; I'd never make a pic and say it was purely mine if I used his style - mentally though, its an homage to that artist. I feel a piece in this example; should be written something akin to "By <name of artist>, Styled after <name of artist who's style it was>.

I think part of it, is Innovation - nobody starts out completely original, alot of us would love to believe we are, but, we aren't 'unique and beautiful snowflakes' - at least not by default. You don't start out drawing in your matured style - you start with maybe... batman in the style of the animated series you saw when you were 10; or maybe the transformers... etc...

It'd be foolish to claim you invented those things; but they are essential artistic building blocks.

Also, one must allow for what is called "Simultaneous Inspiration". Two people's style could be remarkably close without having ever even seen the other individual's work. In that case, you really can't fault the other individual; its their style as much as yours.

That said; its sad but true that people will try to steal, rip off, and otherwise defraud others; so a pic that looks suspiciously similar to one of your own would definitely tick me off a bit (I'm talking style, color and composition all three). But imitation on its own isn't bad as long as the original creator is given their due in the process.

I'll have to second the squirrel.

    awww

does it have to be an art trade?

    *nudge*nudge*

    [/ QUOTE ]

For the pic I'm trying to get done, I figured it'd be more likely to get done that way.

I've already agreed to help ya expand your collection by a pic or two for free, so no worries there. Just gotta get my tablet workin'.
  6. So, you photoshopped that? I'd say that's even more impressive. It really looks like it was drawn.
  7. Five was actually Raura hitting 50. I think I left an indentation on the Prntscrn key trying to get the right moment.

And that looks really good! Did you draw that in yourself?
  8. Sorry it took so long, but here ya go. Unfortunately, I think the file size may be too large, but at least ya have something to work with.

I'm going to try and get it smaller in the meantime. If I manage something before you do, I'll post it.
  9. Well, what I tend to do for just a one-time thing is to use Yousendit.com.

You can go there, enter your own e-mail, and then pick the file you want to upload.. then you can just send the link to the file to someone.

Or, you could enter my e-mail there, upload, and it would e-mail the link directly to me.

Whichever ya'd rather do. My email is Catmin@Gmail.com.
  10. If ya can send me the wmv, or upload it for download, I think I can convert it for ya.
  11. So, title pretty much seems it up. I was looking to have my Peacebringer drawn. I -can- draw a piece in return, but if you want my tablet work , I won't be able to do anything until I've either replaced mine, or figured out why it no longer works with my PC.

If you're not terribly picky, I could do pencil , however.

If you're interested, just post or PM me with some of your own and any questions/details.

    Thanks in advance!

Edit: By the way! I havn't forgotten all you guys that made requests a while back. I still have all of those saved in my PM box, ready to be done as soon as my tablet's ready again. If you'd like them in pencil instead, just yell at me.
  12. Let's see.. some of my own favorites.. Too tired to come up with witty titles, so I'll just post 'em and let you lot make your own.

    One
    Two
    Three
    Four
    Five
    Six

Oh, and those are all of Raura. I'm so terrible at keeping the same outfit.
  13. But.. but.. they don't believe in coffee over there! Honest!
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Yanno. I have a quote for this... but I can't really say it on the boards.

So I'm just going to walk away very fast now. >.> And hope I don't end up with any candid shots of -me- in the near future.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Can I get a PM on that?

Ironically, that doesn't look any worse than some of the art I've drawn.. which, also, is not board-safe.
  15. Anyone know if there's a better way to do this than having multiple folders and files running?

I've been using this for my MM, and it's an absolute blast. Something so small can go a really long way towards making a character more enjoyable.

Anyway, for most PvE fights, I make use of Q for attack my target/aggro, E for Follow/Defensive, and T for Goto/Passive. I use the keypad controls for anything needing a bit more management.

I thought it'd be fun to have random saying bound to each of these three, and I dump them in Local so they don't get too distracting for people.

I've tried lumping the binds into one phrases text, but that just causes one bind to 'hang' on a phrase while the next one cycles, until it gets back to that key.

Running a different file for each key seems a little much.

    2) There was a glitch that cause a hallway's entrance to turn black and make you be unable to see through it until you walked through the black wall.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That glitch is still around. It's due to map tiles not synching totally. The real scary thing is that sometimes the map tile is really out of synch, causing you to fall out of the map.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah - this happened to me in a CoV map not long ago. It was pretty fun, actually. I was walking around on top of the hallway.

Similar to this, I once found a black hallway in a misison with my team, and when we tried to pass through it, we fell. For a long time. Then.. we stopped. Hit some invisible ground. We turned on Superspeed and such and it seemed to go on forever. Flying up, I was able to get out, and teleport through to the other side of the blackness. But that was the weirdest thing. It was insanely fun, though, having your own bottomless pit to run around in.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You can still get this by going into Bloody Bay and getting the mission for recovering the technology. I'm not sure if this exists in the other zones as well, but every single time I have tried this mission there, I've found a giant, gaping hole near one of the archways that enemies just seem to wander right through, never to be seen again. You can go through it and hunt them down, though it takes a bit of doing.

On that same map, I've even seen Mu fly right through the floor to get away.
  17. Very, very nice guide. The first Tanker I enjoyed playing was my invul/fire, and this really gives you an idea of how the combo will handle.

I also have to agree on the thing with Taunt. I like to take it as early as possible, too. 'Course, I have an obsession with trying to tank earlier in levels than I probably should be.
  18. Well, it also seems to be more of an opener, so it's somewhat hard to comment on. I like where it's going, myself. Very much so.

    8. Would it kill you to throw in some randomized women as well as men? I mean, is there some guild rule among thugs that they all have to be guys?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Feh. I think they should do this with everyone, or spread around some options of choosing male/female characters. Can you imagine a wraithly, beautiful, furious female Liche? Or a tough, tom-boy Commando? Or a hot girl-ninja?

I'd just like to see some ladies among MM pets REGARDLESS.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Seconded! Concerning Empty Clip, I rather like that power, myself, but I play my MM a bit differently.. Thugs/Dark, focusing on debuff and support secondary, with extra buffs like Assault to stack with my Enforcers, and Empty Clip as an attack I'll throw out occasionally to lay down some good ol' softening. That attack seems to have a very, very wide cone.

Though, I wouldn't mind seeing the power changed for more chain viability.

I made a Thugs/TA MM last night. Logged into Breakout and had no pet controls on my tray. Pre-I7 there were default controls. I summon thug, use advanced options for controls, and attempt to drag commands to my 2 tier tray. I cannot at all drag the pet all follow command to my #1 tray. I thought maybe I'd had on the setting to not drag pet controls, checked, no it's off (I think that only applies to once they're in the tray, but I wasn't sure). After numerous attempts I tried to drag the stances down to the 2nd tier, those worked. Thinking it must be lag, I go back to trying to drag down Follow. I can place it anywhere but in the first slot on tier 1. Eventually I get it there, I don't know how. I wasn't doing anything differently.

I did the missions up to the Jenkins mission with no trouble. Dismiss pet, enter door mission, lag loading (to be expected), get in and...no more pet controls. Poof. I summon thug, start all over with the dragging and placing. I run into a little of the same problem but it wasn't as bad the second time. For the heck of it, I scrolled through the #2 tray to 3, 4, 5, etc. And on one of those was my pet controls. Hmm. Dupe of the ones I just set, or did the poofed ones warp to another #? Deleted those. Finished the mission, dismissed thug, exited expecting the powers to poof again, thankfully they didn't.

I never had the powers disappear after that. I did a few door missions without incident. I only made it to level 4 before I had to turn in, but so far thugs seems pretty powerful. I took on missions easily that I'd had difficulty with on other ATs, even other MMs. But it's too early to tell yet how this will play out.

Other slight problems: When first summoned in Breakout, the thug runs all over the place even when told to follow. I could only make him stand still by using stay.

The first thug seems a bit slow on the uptake. When I'm attacked he sometimes does nothing for a more than adequate amount of time before he begins to attack back. (In defensive). When telling him directly to attack my target, he also doesn't always respond a.s.a.p. I'm not sure if this is due to server issues or he's just dense.

I got a kick out of his, "Rock a bye baby" just before he delivered the coup de grace.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Lesson of the day? Numeric keypad binds are your best friend as an MM.

Though, I really only end up using three for most situations, and have them rebound:

    /bind q "petcom_all attack agg"
    /bind e "petcom_all follow def"
    /bind r "petcom_all goto"

Edit: Oh, and this one is just for fun. Try it!

    /bind p "e bowdown$$petsay_all <em crack>"
  21. Personally? I'd love it if the guns were switched around - meaning the Tier 1 Thugs get my pistols, and I get their revolvers.

That would fix a lot right there, and the idea of a random tattoo artist dropping by is just too awesome.

It seems to me that while the thugs are squishy, they look like they pack more of a punch to try and compensate. A sort of 'all or nothing set'.. and I like it.

    Hey.
I found the coolest animation/emote/bind/macro to go with Dual Wield and Backflip.
Do this to replace your dual wield power button.

    /macro DW "e backflip$$powexec_name Dual Wield"

Basically, your MM does a backflip, and fires a shot while still in the crouched position, then stands up straight, no continual hands in air effect of a normal fire.

    Try it, looks bad A$$

    [/ QUOTE ]

Doesn't seem to work for me. It just cancels the backflip animation and then fires.
  23. Mantid now has a possibly love interest. Run! Run while you can! *runs away screaming*
  24. I've been playing my recently-made Controller this way, and she's been an absolute blast. I was surprised when I found myself throwing away my own advice in favor of more fun.
