So, officially, no. -

Well, they can't make it take too long, it's a costume change. A long build-up would be out of place. I mean, it's not teleporting to Pocket D.

Quote:All the state universities and colleges here in Maine go back on Monday; mileage elsewhere may be different, but as a University of Maine student I'm really only concerned with that. People's kids' schedules don't concern me to the sarcastic-slow-clap degree.First for you maybe. My kids will have been back in school for two weeks already by that time.

Not quite the same thing, but my Robotics Mastermind has always wanted the option to use her robots as her travel power. Just climb on the back of one of them and rocket away. I mean, they already have the flying animations.

Quote:Ooh. You could get it into a mission instance, too, by setting up a "you're racing $NPC for charity and the bad guys get up to some stuff while they figure you're distracted" scenario, like the classic Flash-Superman race comic. Wouldn't work for those hardcore no-travel-power people, but the hell with them. There's actually a sensible in-game reason for something "official" too - in a similar way to the arenas being built as a safe way for heroes to test themselves against each other, specially bult race routes would be quite likely in a city with this many superpowered people in it.

I want to say there's one in the repertoire that looks a bit like that already, but I can't remember which one it is, or if in fact my memory is just making it up because it would be so cool. Although... can they make costume change emotes colorable? I don't think there's a mechanism in the UI for that. Which would be kind of a shame; be nice to be able to make it match your powers instead of just being orange.

Quote:Well, flying chair, anyway. Doesn't have to have rockets except as a Rocket Boots-esque cosmetic options. Flying is the important part.Actually I was thinking along the lines of a hover chair but rockets work too especially for a more Steam Punk feel. That way players could get the most out of the travel powers.
Actually, rocket-less flying chair works too, for that New Gods Möbius Chair effect. I would so make a Hovering Barcalounger Cosmic Character. Unfortunately, all the animations would have to be redone so he could fire his Energy Blasts from his forehead, but... -
Quote:... in the first week of the school year. The scheduling of various cut-off dates for the NCSoft store makes it looks like that issue 21 will launch on or shortly after Labor Day.
So here we are with a slew of hopefully new and excited players about to join us...
Brava, Paragon. Clap. Clap. Clap.
(I kid, but there's a dash of ha-ha-only-serious in it.)

Condolences. Hope you get back on your feet soon. -
I find that "people will clone $LICENSEDCHARACTER" rarely holds any water as a reason not to introduce a power or character design feature. Yeah, it happens, for about a week, and then the fad dies off. In the meantime, the better players are doing smart, creative, outside-the-lines things the rest of us wouldn't otherwise have gotten to encounter. Like they used to say about the Unix operating system when I was a lad, "It shouldn't stop you from doing stupid things because that would stop you from doing clever things."

Quote:Just for the record, I would like Natalie Portman even more if I were presented with concrete evidence that she had adopted the Michael Caine/Christopher Lee "whether this movie is any good is not my problem" approach to career steering.I sat there for 20 whole minutes trying to figure out what possessed Natalie Portman and Charles Dance to read the script, nod their heads sagely and say "Yep. That's the role for me!"

Yeah, for myself I would insist on being able to fight from the chair, if the option was going to be there at all. Otherwise the implicit message is "it's OK if you're in a wheelchair, but you've still got no business fighting crime, Ironside," which isn't cool. If you're gonna go with it, go all the way, you know?
-
This is not to be taken as non-support for the idea, but personally I don't think I would use a wheelchair option.
ROCKET chair, on the other hand? I would so be up for some of that. -
Quote:Unless they've altered the way Rocket Board worked since the last time I could be arsed to update the beta client, all powers are automatically off if you've got the board turned on. It's like Walk, you have no choice. I suppose if you wanted to play it the Really Rotten way, you could get Muttley to Speed Boost you before you set off, but I'm not sure, it may even suppress external buffs. It's pretty fiercely bent on not being all that useful.I recall one day hearing the call for some races on the Freedom hoverboards. With all powers turned off but the 'boards
(hand to earpiece) ... I'm being told that Muttley wasn't in Laff-a-Lympics for licensing reasons, and that in fact the character who looked, sounded, and acted exactly like him in that show was called "Mumbly". -

This reminds me of the best thing that happened during City of Villains pre-release testing. Who else remembers The Desk of Doom?
-
The name fails, though. If there's a version of the Green Lantern Corps in the 440-490nm range, they clearly need to be the Blue Beacon Brigade.
Also: They're called Green Lanterns because they're Silver Age retreads of what was a single unique character, who got his name from the fact that his power came from, well, a green lantern. Simple, really. -
Nah. Failure being an option in real life is sufficient coverage for my needs. I'm OK without it spreading into City of Heroes too.
Hey, I just thought of something, though: It could be another difficulty option. "Our records indicate that you: - Wish to fight enemies +0 to your level. - Consider yourself equivalent to 1 hero. - Are with Gene Kranz on the whole failure optionality thing."
It'd be no more ridiculously fourth-wall-breaching than the rest of the difficulty NPC dialogue. -

In many games, this is deliberately not allowed, specifically to prevent people from designing characters which represent children.
