I see now....
The Rikti will invade with a new mothership (ala end of beta party)
Then, Tyrant and his crew will come in the darkest hour and help beat them back, setting up a permanent connection to Praetoria while furthering Tyrants plans.
Brilliant!!! -

Quote:I'm getting a little sick of people complaining that self-resurrect powers are only useful when you die. So? You WILL die. No matter what you do, no matter how good you are, no matter what set you play, you WILL die. Sooner or later, you will die, and having a power that works then is, as far as I'm concerned, pretty damn cool. I'm be seriously disappointed if I see self resurrection damage powers go, because they're one of the few remaining interesting powers.
To me, this argument is akin to wanting to remove seatbelts out of cars because you're such a good driver that you will never, ever crash. And you're racing in NASCAR. Boy is it gonna' suck when you do.
Quoted and Bolded for truth.
On the initial design of Fire/, has everybody here forgotten the levels we could reach before ED? Capped S/L, Respectable Defense from Power Pools, and the ability to run both our shields (Not a given back in the day) with massive offensive capability to boot.
Fire/ was not designed to be the weakest armor, it has become it over time. -
Quote:Who is this "we" you speak of. I remember a nuclear reaction going off before I could even strap on my damn belt.
Btw, do you remember the "inspire retailers" waiting outside making a tidy profit off all the beaten up and dead flopping out the door.
Good times.
The "We" were the lines of people I waited with who loved the challenge of the trial. Not everybody enjoyed it at that level, but I know many who did love it.
There are still a few who try reselling inspirations at the door now and then. It usually ends up being easier just to have a friend stand watch at the door and supply your team..plus the new combining system makes needing outside inspirations old news. -
Quote:To clarify, the way things are now is a far stretch from how they were designed at the beginning of the game.Ok, since the begining of City of Heroes, Fire tanks were meant to be the more offensive style tanks.. not much has changed. I have had one since I first started when they said they were horrible tanks, and when they changed burn and everyone got rid of theirs, I kept mine. I am proud to have kept mine all these years. and it is one that I still play when people want me to grab my level 50 tank.. (I have two level 50 tanks and working on more, I am a tankaholic)
At the beginning there were two intents in the design based on pairing the elemental primaries. Fire/Fire was Resistance/Offence while Ice/Ice was Defense/Control. The others were scattered in the middle of both scales.
There was a time when Fire/ could cap S/L resists with Tough and tack on enough +def from Weave to take on a map of wolves and laugh about it. Then the offensive pairing with /Fire would make you a killing machine.
Since ED, GDN, Aggro Caps, and many...many....many Burn nerfs this has changed to what we have now. -
"Attack them by sea!" Mako said with a shout,
Recluse just groned, he did not know what tonight was about. -
I really wish they never nerfed it in the first place. When it first came out it was HARD!! and we loved it.
I would vote to ether have it returned to the original difficulty or add a new "Epic" respiec trial that runs at the pace it did at launch. -
Not sure how this weekend is going to pan out but I will try to bring my Crab Spider for support.

Voodoo is griefing my Christmas Spirit!!!!!!
Happy Holidays Victory. May you Pie always be round and full of warm yummyness. -
I actually like the concept of Mission 2, but make it into 2 separate instances. Both doors are in the same zone, one requires you to kill a boss who is behind several security doors. The other has several clickies that will open the doors. Before the boss is a side path that allows you to teleport your other team members to that point in the map.
Or make it optional, where running one door allows you to weaken the AV in the other door via clickie, but you have to click it every minute.
The key is to allow the team to select who goes where, making the travel between the two minimal, and providing a reason for players not to ignore one of the paths. -
Time to write a new Christmas story. One worthy of Paragon.
I'll start, next person adds the next stanza...yadda yadda yadda.
‘Twas the night before Christmas, and down in Kings Row
The Paladen was stomping any hero who was slow. -
You can't get rid of the fog...then the ghostly pedestrians would not be there and they are the best part of the zone.

I can identify with what you are saying. More accurately I found that Ninja Run has added a different level of gameplay, even if it is visual only.
I, like many others, rolled a Ninja Stalker and got myself up to the magic level 4 to play around. What I found is that the new mobility made playing the stalker fun (I hate stalkers...they just do not work with my normal playstyle)
Quick attack from stealth, then flip back and out of range. By the time they can catch up I am in hide again and can leap from the rooftop and hit them with another critical.
For me this little bit of mobility really gave me a new perspective, one that I really enjoy. -
As well as in the newsletter sent to your on-file email, and in the forum announcement.
How could you miss it?? -

Come on, I ran a tradewars hub and MajorMUD!
Still one of the bestest games ever.
I remember when 14400 baud came out. It was godly. ANSI graphics just flew past!
LORD rocked. Loved Tradewars too.
Setup my own BBS at one point as well, but only to understand how it worked. Never had anybody join up as I did not have any dedicated phone lines.
I remember when the BBS I hung out at got the new modem bank. 12 modems, all 14.4. Good times back then, good times. -
Quote:I was using the train as an example.
Obviously you don't "have" to take the train.
The point I was trying to get at was that...at some points you are forced to not fly to that location.
Example...why do I have to take a ferry to an island when I can fly?
Why do I have to take the train to Croatoa when I can fly?
Because, unlike some other games that make you go wow!!! Coh is an instance based game. Zones have the potential to be capped and spawn extra instances. I imagine that managing this mechanic without any sort of loading area would be a nightmare.
That being said, I believe Praetorian Earth has no War Walls. It may be that however they manage the zone transitions for GR will eventually find it's way back to CoH/CoV.
I do find myself longing for large expanses of space to explore though I think the Devs are going in the right direction with places like Grandville and Faultline. So many hidden areas to explore that you just miss running at Super Speed. -

Quote:Well from what I've gathered from running the Shadow Shard TFs numerous times, Rularuu came here from another dimension to try to "devour" our world like he's done to countless others. Some people (Midnight Club, etc) "somehow" created a pocket dimension to trap him in, and drove him mad at the same time, fracturing his mind.
So, the Shard seems to be a "pocket" dimension. The only real question would be then... do people from other dimensions have to go through OURS to get to the Shadow Shard, since it's a pocket dimension of our own, or did the creation of the pocket dimension cause it to be created parallel to all other dimensions, so anyone can get access to it directly with the right magic/tech.
The proxy server at work blocks paragon wiki, but if I remember correctly Nemesis Rex used the Shadow Shard as well, proving that other dimensions have access to our shard.
I tend to believe that there are certain unique entities and places in the CoX multiverse, such as the Rikti home world and Shadow Shard. While both are alternate versions of Prime Earth they are so diverged from use, ether by method of creation or their history, that you would not find similar worlds.
That being the case there is only 1 source of Rikti and only 1 Rularuu. If Praetorian Earth has any connection to them or not is probably the biggest question. -
In the end it boils down to a simple thing.
No matter what you are doing if you are being a jerk about it you should be slapped on the back of the head. -
I was just thinking "Client Side Rendering" when I reached the end of the thread and saw it has been suggested.
Could work similar to the billboards/in-game ads where it picks an image at the time of rendering on the client side. Could be something along the lines of a random hero/villian from your stable at level X or above will be rendered. Or you could tie it into influence/infamy.
Other players would see their selected statues, or the generic statue if they do not meet the qualifications.
