  3. Hardly constant.

Unless you are herding vast numbers of mobs so that as you kill off some others come to fill the gaps you are only looking at peak performance of the power for 2-3 seconds per battle. The majority of your battle is probably at 20% boosting, on average. Fiery Embrace is a constant 80% (100% for fire primary) for a good 10 seconds with no reduction in effectiveness of the buff over the time.

Where I think shield pulls ahead is in the tools to leverage the buff (lets face it, Shield Charge is a wonderful power and will take full advantage of the buff killing minions with ease), and the lack of being a click power. With animation time factored in stacking Fiery Embrace and Build-Up causes you to miss some of the buffing. AAO does not have this problem. It is one of the reasons Fire pairs up so well with SS, no need to worry about timing the stacking buffs.

If you are going to dismiss the damage boosting power of the set then yes, Fire does not deliver in it's damage boosting.

Just as Shield would not deliver if you pulled AAO because it cannot deliver a steady damage boost no matter the number of mobs around you.

Now granted your secondary is Ice so your weakness will not be as apparent since Ice Patch can keep mobs in Burn and on their a** but consider this. Shields does more damage while providing more protection than Fire. Sound unbalanced ? It is but is nonetheless true.
Everything I am seeing tells me that Fire provides a better damage boost than shield in low mob groupings. Even capped on mobs I can not get AAO to get me much past 65% boosts reliably. Fire will give you 80% to everything for 10 seconds.

Now, if you want to argue Burn vs Shield Charge I am 100% on your side

What do you mean if?? I rolled one a while back but already have too many /SS toons so I went SD/Dark. Got bored with that and went SD/Elec. Now that is a monster of a toon once you start putting in sets. Sitting on 42.6% Melee def Solo and with a good grouping and buildup I can hit 130% +Damage reliably. Not quite up to what Fiery Embrace can provide though, but for this toon I would not give up Shield Charge+Lighting Rod+Thunder Strike+Chain Induction.

One of the ugliest things I hear them say, is IO for Def %'s when it comes to a Fire/ Tank. The second ugliest thing iv ever heard them say, is /SS "Synergizes" very well with Fire/, because of its great AoE capability.Aoe Capability?Last I checked, it only had Footstomp.(I hate the word "Synergize", because most people use it incorrectly.)
I tend to agree what +def is not a good path for a Fire/, but only due to the lack of and debuff resistance.

Now as to the Fire/SS synergy it is not just FootStomp that makes them work together so well.

    - FootStomp is a great pBAoE not just for the damage or recharge but also for KnockDown. It is a hight hitting soft control that can pair up very well with Burn or even give you a breather.

    - While a bit less of an effect many of the SS primary powers contain secondary effects that keep things close to you, and from running. Great benefit for Burn, Consume, and Blazing Aura.

    - And the number 1 reason, in my book, for the synergy?

    Rage

Going SO's alone you can have a near permanent damage boost of 80% along with a very nice to-hit. With a bit of work you get double stacked for a nice 160%.

Ignoring what this does to Consume and Blazing Aura the way I see it Fire/ brings something to SS that no other primary can. Burst Damage. 240% damage boosting for 10 seconds (if timed right). KO Blow and FootStomp with buffs in that range are a beautiful thing to see.

With some IO's I can nearly cap my damage without outside help
  8. The area is Dark Astoria. They really need to give that zone a TF and some more underground areas.

One of the best things about the zone are the ghosts in the fog. As you get close they vanish. First time I saw it freaked me out. Then I spent 10 minutes just watching them.
  9. Does Fire beat out Electic in the multi-target department? Don't remember the powers off the top of my head.
  10. Fire is far from bad. Well built they can be deadly.

I play my fire/ss more like a heavy scrapper. I can take more than most scrappers and dish out a respectable amount of damage in the process. The key is not ignoring Fiery Embrace. It is a hidden gem of the set and especially when paired with Super Strength it can just about cap your damage, and with no outside help.

I find that Fire does best when building for Recharge. It gets Consume, Fiery Embrace, and the wonderful Healing Flames up faster as well as gives more focus to our offensive nature. If you go this path, pick up Temp Protection. It will make the lower levels less painful (You get to laugh at Outcasts) and the slow resist makes it an attractive selection for higher levels.

IMHO Fire is one of the best Solo primaries for tanks, and up in the top 10 for the game. All your tools are self contained, you develop early, and have additional ability to boost your offense. This does not mean you cannot tank anything in the game. It will take a bit more work on your part and/or a good team backing you up.

  14. My lvl 50 Fire/SS will be making the migration to Vigilante and probably stay there.

My other tanks are too much of heroes to move over. Similar none of my brutes are nice enough to act as a hero, though I may move one to Rogue just to have access to Paragon.

I am planning on sending a stalker all the way to the evil side at some point.
  15. Dear CK,

Love in Paragon can be a difficult but rewarding adventure if you are willing to exemp down and grind some influance to win your beloveds heart.

Note that I said win, not rip out and place in a jar. Nothign turns off the romance like bodily mutilation in the name of evil (Editor Note: Silver Mantis?)

Let me tell you about a recent client of mine, we shall call him HM. HM had a crush for years on a former coworker but his job sent him away and kept him very buisy. The fact that he looked like a giant jello mold didnt help ether.

I told him to remember that looks are superficial and if love is truly meant to be it will transcend small things like bones, organs, and lack of skin. I suggested that he start by sending her letter saying how he truly felt about her. Flowers are also a good thing, though I would suggest not using the type that walk on their own.

Eventually, even after a bit of initial rejection, she fell for him (Editor Note: By fell he means was infected and became a breeder, but who is counting). Their relationship is still a bit rocky, constant heroes assaulting you for merits will do that, but as with anything worth wile you have to work at it and never lose hope.

For you I would suggest something similar. A note of flowers to show your interest in moving past friendship. Lacking anything organic you could send her a gift. I would suggest not sending anything with a mind of it's own as it can cause a girl to become scared.

Don't stress about the age thing. If anybody asks remind them that most of the parts of your body are less than 5 years old.

If that does not work do not give up on your love. Kidnapping and holding the world ransom can bring two people closer together.

Remember though that some relationships are just not ment to be. Don't be afraid of the LJBF zone, it is nowhere as dangerous as the Shadow Shard and leaves openings for future relationships as she matures.

    Good Luck CK.

In the Rudolph world yes. However in CoH universe all indications that we have seen over the years show that Father Time and Baby New Year are the same people.
  22. Captain New Year:

Growing up as the Baby New Year is a hard life. Constant harassment by Red Caps and a never ending youth can drive a soul to dark places.

During a particularly bad holiday season the poor child had enough of it and in a fit of rage left Father Time for Paragon City, forsaking his immortality to be free of the never ending torment.

Time went on without the Baby and soon time took hold and for the first time in centuries he finally began to age like a normal human.

Though the youngest member of the Freedom Phalanx his centuries of wisdom and knowledge has landed him an honorary place on the new Midnight Council, who are gathering all the magic forces to face the next coming of Rularuu.

Though he refuses to use the powers granted to him at birth out of spite to Father Time his knowledge and wisdom have proven invaluable in the preparations for the next storm to weather Paragons shores.

    Terra (Devouring Earth MM)

The body of Tanya Tyler had long been destroyed after it had been converted into a breeding Devouring Earth. However her mind remained trapped within Hamidon, bound to the Will of the Earth

It took the combined efforts of Woodsman and a team of psychics to draw her mind to the surface. With her help Hamidon was finally pushed back into the Hive after encroaching on the borders of Paragon.

With her new found freedom she escaped , now a mutant strain of the Will of the Earth. Controlling her minions from the new Freedom Phalanx headquarters she can reach
  23. Horizons was big for such things. The Macro system in game allowed for all sorts of automated tasks. Then again, it was a heavy crafting MMO and it would get tedious after awhile, especially when working on your dragon.

The only game I ever "Botted" in was Jumpgate, and that still had human interaction. I wrote a program that filled they keyboard buffer with waypoints whenever you hit a key pattern. This way I could program mining routes or artifact search patterns and just tap the next button to go along. Still required me to be looking out for the contacts, as well as to send the signal I was at the current waypoint.

I do agree that games like CoH have very little use for bots in general. Never heard of the "Using a bot to farm for PVP drops" before so I can not speak to that.
  24. Just finished the reading the announcement. To the point and well written, good job with it.

One part did get me thinking however. Quoted below.

    Quote:
    Don’t use bots. Ever.

If you use “third party applications that control your game play”—which is the literal definition of “bots”—you will lose your account, and nothing you say will get it back. We can detect bots. We have multiple ways of detecting bots. We have banned thousands of accounts and will continue to ban such accounts due to bot usage. Bot usage is one of the key ways that RMT companies use to fund their operations, and removing bots from the game is one of our best attacks against them. The GSU “banhammers” against bot usage will not stop, and if you use a bot, you will be caught.

This got me a bit curious.

If RMT did not exist do you, as a MMO player, think bots should still be against the rules. Also, where is the dividing line between bots and macroing repetitive tasks?

    It is a deal

On a serious note, I was obviously addressing the event mechanics and not the communication and/or implementation plan. On the second point I can agree with you to a point but I am willing to wait and see how things go. At the moment is seems more of testing the water...and I am all for testing new ways of doing events.
