Quote:They ARE holding all of our toons as hostage.
So it's that's the big difference between this service industry and the many other service industries. We can't just haul our toons to some one else's place of business and carry on.
The relationship between MMOs and their customers would be a lot different and more pleasant for the customers if we could just pack up our toons and take them to another company's business.
That was in a book I read, quite interesting notion. -
-
It is rather silly of them to share the same timer.
Whats the point in releasing seven of them, if people are only ever going to play the quickest one, and ignore the others as they'd get no reward? -
-
There are things my heroes wouldn't of done put *spoiler* back in the *spoiler*?
None of my heroes would do that, they'd punch *spoiler* out and then either knock her out when ever she woke up, or keep her sedated until the big threat had passed.
They really need a final mission where you go and fix what you did to *spoiler*. -
Quote:Yes, but what were the prizes though? Some of the MMORPG.com competitions that i have seen, where graphics cards were the prizes, were only available to those in the US.
Were they physical prizes, did they involve travelling?
This is where the problem kicks in...
Some prizes can be exempt, others have hidden catches (ie hardware/computer setups can be caught out by customs, as they exceed the allowance for importing)
Sometimes it is better to be safe than sorry
((Side note: Digital prizes are *generally* easier to giveaway than physical items though, because there is no physical item, it will be harder to put a value to))
They've done physical prize give aways to Europe and the rest of the world too.
It's probably the cost of the flight they want to keep down, I mean an internal flight across the USA costs a lot less than say flying the winner from Prague, the middle east or China.
Would be nice of them to offer a similar competition to the rest of their subscriber base though. Perhaps without the silly haircut part though. -
The only problem with that is, MMORPG.com has run open to everyone competitions before, heck they've even run open to everyone competitions that gave away NCSoft stuff.
-
Maybe. When does it start?

Quote:The available evidence suggests otherwise. They do post announcements about scheduled maintenance, you know. And those announcements are still there.
They post them at 3am BST on the same day they happen, hidden away on Facebook you mean? They've given proper advanced notification, once since I21 launched. -
Quote:How many scheduled downtimes have actually done that, though? I play (generally) off-peak in the United States, and I can count on one hand the number of times I remember seeing a downtime notice that extended past noon, EST. And no, a downtime that finishes at 6pm isn't peak hours.
If the servers go offline unexpectedly, that's unfortunate but it's a different subject. By definition, discrimination can't be accidental.
Pretty much all of them since I21 launch actually. -
Quote:the companies don't treat them like crap because they don't have that much investment when they're completely f2p
Very little is completly free to play, the money is to be made in micro-transactions.
But how are you going to get all those delicous Euros into your pocket when you keep **** slapping the entire region? -
Quote:I gave up on the EU being treated as equal customers during the global name fiasco.
As a business, Paragon and NCSoft have to make decisions that affect the smallest number of customers. Unfortunately, that means that it's always the EU customers who end up being boned.
Does it make financial sense? Yes. Is it good customer service? No.
I think it's high time they pulled their socks up and did something to show EU players that they are valued customers too. But if I'm not going to hold my breath otherwise I'll likely go a very unattractive shade of purple.
The thing is other free to play games are swarmed by European players, hundreds of thousands of them, why? Because they aren't treated like crap by the companies invovled. -
Quote:
There are valid complaints to be made, but stuff like this thread and the hysteria over downtimes that are designed to occur during off-peak times for NA and Europe diminish your arguments.
So downtimes going throughout the entire of the afternoon, ending perhaps 6pm or 7 pm or 8pm or 9pm (or like 3am yay) BST aren't peak times? -
Quote:No, they're not. That's just accounting. It's like those TV commercial offers that throw in an "extra", but the bottom line price doesn't change.
If Paragon wants to offer a $10 VIP subscription package with no free Paragon Points/transfers/whatever, that would be a different matter.
That would be nice. -
Quote:You'd be surprised.
When third party sites host contests, they usually have their standard rules and regulations that they use for most, if not all, of their contests.
This may come out harsher than intended.
But as Community Manager perhaps you could suggest to whom ever is in charge of arranging these deals with third party sites, that they not arrange them with sites that exclude parts of your community, particularly when said parts are feeling more than a little bit second class at the moment. -
What do you expect, we are from the EU, second class customers. If we want an event or competition, we'll have to make one ourselves.

Quote:If there's been "some discussion" of it? So what? That's what gamers do. They discuss, they number-crunch, they power game.
The AOEs are your own personal hobby-horse. Personally, my StJ character doesn't have any unusual problem with his AoEs hitting. Then again, I know how to line up cones, having played Dark scrappers and Defenders since 2004.
What level did you play your character to? Did you fill his slots? With what? I think this is probably a user error more than a powerset error.
AoE's are the current meta-game of city of heroes.
StJ has great single target damage, but mowing down a crap load of mobs is the current meta of CoH. It's probably nice for EB/AV's but well solo you aren't going to run into a lot of those, and in team the debuffs/buff aspect is going to be more important.
My own personal bug bear with it, is that the first cone seems a bit iffy, some times it'll only affect one mob when it looks like it should hit several, other times it'll hit several when it looks like it should only hit one. -
Quote:Would that even apply? No goods are exchanged across international borders. Servers and game is contained in US and you are allowed to remotely access it, but you own nothing.
Well if they don't accept UK law, they wouldn't be able to do business with UK players.
And they certainly wouldn't charge us in pound stirling. -
Quote:Clearly they can delete permissions.Even in the UK, I believe you have to return whatever you purchased to get a refund.
Imagine, for a moment, that NCSoft has no way to delete permissions at this level. The only way to 'return' the item in that case would be to lock the account.
Hey, hidden benefits!
They did so in beta. -
Quote:Now you're making up what their policy is? The policy is "No refunds." You've already been shown where it appears in writing. There is no trouble. There is no confusion. There is no lack of clarity.
Problem in some countries for example the UK that policy is illegal. -
Quote:You and a few others didn't know you could type the name of the powers in the chat box and see the information already in the game. It's information that has been stated several times in the forum since we got the ability to drag and drop powers, enhancements, etc into the Chat box. Not really what I'd call obscure, but we'll leave that one alone.
Not exactly true, unless you are the same AT as the one you wish to use the power on, you need more than just the name. Otherwise you get for example the defender version of Ribcracker.
Plus unless you know the name of every power in the set, how are you going to find that out?
And no, none Paragon sources of information shouldn't be the soloution. -
Quote:That some minor part of the player base is confused?
No, I'm not surprised.
Do you know the exact code to bring up a power for a different AT than the one you are on?
Typing [Power Name] will give you the details for that power if it was for your AT.
It is not, an easy or open method of gaining information. -
Quote:I live in an EU country and there's no such law here. There never has been. What country is this that this exists? Because "the EU" is not a country, nor an authority with law-making rights over sovereign states.
Oh sorry the UK, gotten so used to it being the EU screwed over by American companies, that it tends to sneak into any two letter abriviation. -
Quote:I would like to point out that throwing a hissy fit and ranting on the forums is not how said player can claim a refund.
The problem is does he have any other recourse? Paragon claim by their EULA they don't have to give a refund (Much like shops will try, until you mention the law) if they don't come out with a way to preview a powerset before purchase, they will get a lot more of these threads. -
Quote:
They don't need an excuse, because they don't owe you an early look. If you don't feel informed enough to make a purchase, then don't make that purchase.
I would like to point out that any player in the EU can claim a refund within seven days of purchase. By law.
