Oh! well, then I would have to check it out again! Thanks for that!

Well, the laptop was going to double as my school computer in the coming year. Going into Sound Recording, and the HP has a Subwoofer and everything.

Not the mention, when I went to Best Buy and played around with that exact machine, I couldn't seem to get it's strange interface to work. Some Black Screen with Blue media-center-like icons. I'm sure it was because it was just the floor model, but it seemed to have turned me off nearly instantly.

I could possibly go and check it out again before I make a final decision.

When I was customizing the laptop, it only gave me the two options for the graphics card, one that would only work for the DDR2 memory, and one that uses the DDR3.

I'll look into other graphics cards...thanks!

    Laptop Specs

Ok! After much help from the boards and my many questions, I think I have finally come to a decision on a laptop. My last question to you all would be: Does it look ok? Here are the Specs:

    HP HDX18t
Windows Vista 64-bit (Free Upgrade to W7)
    Intel Core2 Duo 2.66GHz
    6GB DDR3 RAM
    500GB 7200rpm Hard Drive (2x 250GB)
    1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M
    18.4" (1920x1080p)

I haven't gotten it yet, but really soon! So any feedback would be appriciated!

P.S. If you need anymore info, I can try to find it.
  5. That's what I was thinking, for some reason, I have never seen a Rad/Dark, and yet they seem like they'd be a swift kick to any fight.

This is the most exicited I've been for an alt, I think! And Issue 16 and the thought of Green Dark Miasma (aka, neat-looking radiation) has gotten me even more excited!
  6. That's what I was thinking, but sometimes what I think, and what the facts are ... can be completely different.

I'm pretty familiar with /Dark, but what are some things that I should avoid in Rad/?
  7. So, I was looking into Rad Blast as I realized that I never have made one before! Originally, I was looking to pair it with Cold, but then I decided to save it for a Controller for Issue 16.

Thats when I came across /Dark. I figured it would work well with Rad, and when i16 hits, I could make /Dark Green and it would make for a pretty beastly looking radiation combo.

So for my question! Does Rad/Dark work well together? Some Pros and Cons? AV, Hero, Solo, Team Potential? Thanks for the help!

    So, what's next?

After all of the new announcements, I find myself asking, what else is left? Don't get me wrong, I am VERY exicted for these new features and looking forward to them, but what could possibly be coming after them?

We originally thought that the Character Creator 2.0, Color / Power Customization, and Demon Summoning and Dual Pistols would all be included in Going Rogue. Now with Issue 16, we seem to be getting two of the three!

So, my question to you all is, what do you think will also be in Going Rogue besides Side Switching, the new powersets, and the new city? Do you think there will be more? Or nothing else?
  9. Assassin's Creed nao.

    Assassin's Creed 2 in November.

May I also add Prototype is very entertaining if you like the "I wanna see yer innards!" aspect. (Which was fun )
  10. After looking through again at the AT, I think I'll run a Grav/Fire. Seems like it's got a decent enough ammount of control as well as some hard hitting attacks. Any tips on the combo?
  11. Is it that bad on Dominators?

**note I did say I was open for suggestions!
  12. So, I've tried Dominators before ... multiple times . I just couldn't seem to stick with them, which is odd seeing as I often play both Blasters and Controllers!

With the changes and all of the positive feedback I am hearing, I was looking to try once again.

I was looking at Grav/* mainly because I've always wanted one, but I could be convinced otherwise. And also either */Fire or */Energy to pair with it (or something else, or another secondary all together! But I like these two ).

Any help would be appriciated, I solo often times, but I could get into teaming. Also, AV/Hero Takedowns? Thanks!
  13. Oh, that's good news! Thanks for the help!
  14. Just a quick question. Looking into a new laptop for school coming up, neading it for Sound Recording and the like ... but I need my games to ... "study" .

I was looking into the 17" MacBook Pro, and was wondering if this would be able to run CoH (and possibly future games) without flaw (for the most part):

NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory and NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory

I was customizing an alienware m17x and got it to what I wanted for a cheaper price, but my school will use Mac's and I think it would be overall better for running sound progams. So if the graphics specs are good enough, I may have found my new laptop!

    Thanks for the help all!
  15. Oh, nice! Thanks for the tips!
  16. Whoops, sorry for the double post, but what about the Windows 7 issue? With it so close to release. should I old out until it comes preset?

Also: Here is what I ment as confusing on prices:
During Customizing the processor, I get this:

    Starting: Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz
    Adding $450 = Intel Core 2 Duo T9800 2.93GHz
    But add $250 = Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 2.0GHz

What would have been the best option? Why is the Quad cheaper then the Duo? But the Quad is more expensive then the next lowest option of Duo (Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 2.8GHz) by $50.

This is what I've come up with -- an edit of the Alienware M17x

    PROCESSOR Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9000 2.0GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
OPERATING SYSTEM Windows Vista Home Premium (64 bit) + Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Coupon
    VIDEO CARD Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M, 2GB – SLI® Enabled
    LCD PANEL 17-inch WideUXGA 1920x1200 (1200p)
    MEMORY 6GB DDR3 at 1066MHz
HARD DRIVE 320GB 7,200RPM w/ Free Fall Protection
INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

    Edit for Specs

It comes to $3073, which hurts me to say it. I can cut down my ram from 6GB to 4GB and save $400, but would that be a good idea to do so? Planning on upgrading to Windows 7.
  17. Wow! Wasn't expecting a reply that fast! With tons of information to boot!

Thanks alot! That will surely help!
  18. Hey there all tech guru's! Had a few quick questions. Looking into getting a new laptop, but I'm not really sure what to "look at" as the numbers tend to mash into each other.

I wanted to know what would be a good starting graphics card/ammount of RAM, and processor speed/types.

I'd probably want to just customize a laptop from Dell or Alienware or such, but as I was playing around with them, the price jumps seem to be outrageous for .1 more speed on certain things!

Just wanted to know what I should be looking at. I'd like it run CoH almost flawlessly, and be capable of holding it's own in the future. Price is touchy, probably -no more- then 3k. But that would be 'really' pushing it. Around 2.5ish would be better overall.

Also: should I wait to invest in one until Windows 7?

    Thanks in advance!

Yep. As the years roll by, I find myself more and more addicted to alts

Oh, yeah...it does kind of sound like I'm leaving, huh? No. Im staying! Just a nice thank you all thread

    Looking Back

So...it's been awhile, huh? Five Years.

I joined this game shortly after it's release in Novemeber of 2004 ... my 7th Grade year. You heard right...7th grade. Well, as of Thursday, June 25 I will have offically graduated High School! (skipped 11th, long story )

It certainly does not feel as if it has been that long of a time. However, I do feel one thing for sure: You all have become my secondary family . Which almost has truth, as I basically grew up around you all ... some new and some old.

I've made, what seems like, life-long friends, enemies, and had many many amazingly fun times, and I hope there are still many more to have in the upcoming years!

I'm not very good at emotional and/or heartfelt things ... so I'll keep it short. I just wanted to thank all of you have treated me as either a little brother, or even the distant second cousin that you have to share your turkey with only on thanksgiving. I know people will say "Oh! It's just a game! Don't get attached!" To what I say that it really, really is so much more. Yes, it started out as a game...but turned into a family of sorts.

So, I will say it once again: Thank you! I say that to everyone, and some more then others...you know who you are .

    Thanks again all! Happy Hunting!

    --Burst, aka Dylan.

----P.S. No, I'm not leaving anytime soon!
  22. First off, let me say that I don't, also, really understand the idea of a Pistol Scrapper. However, if said pistols were to have a blade or some-such on the bottom, so they become "Dual Blades (with or without the combos) with two ranged 'shots'" it would become _much_ more thematically appealing to me. But that's just my thought process.
  23. Hrm, all seem like good options, I was hoping (if I enjoy the character enough) to IO this guy out. It'd be my first go at them. Oy! Why must I be so hard-headed!?
  24. As the title says, I am thinking of making a Grav/ controller. In a new attempt to cut back on alt-making, I'm trying to make an informed decision on which secondary to take.

It would mainly be for PvE, fun stuff like teaming, TF's, badge hunting, and solo-ability. I -may- dabble in PvP...but its a stretch. I'm not so worried about concept as it will probably form off of the secondary chosen...so without wasting anymore time -- to the sets!

Empathy, Force Field: Im sort of impartial. I wasn't looking to be a "healbot" or sit back and be complete support. Being able to handle my own fairly well is something I'd like to do.

Kinetics: Here's a strong contender. I think /Kin would be a very decent counterpart to Gravity. The only issue I have with it is that...well...its pretty much the most used secondary with Grav next to Force and Storm I've seen. Not that it's a bad thing, it's obviously doing something right...but overused is still overused. ... But a possibilty!

Radiation Emission, Sonic: This is where they get a bit tricky. THey are both some debuff / some support. It would give me a mix of both roles while being able to feel useful to myself and the team if need be. I feel /Kin would fill the same feeling as well, though. And Singularity + SB sounds nifty.

Storm, Trick Arrow: I've taken a Grav/Storm to the 20's before and it was fun, but for some reason it died out for me. Not sure if I want to go down that road again. TA is another story. It looks fun, but I'm not sure if it looks like I'd 'have' fun. Not sure though...possiblity.

Thermal Radiation: Ahh, Thermal. It is one of my favorite sets...And I have never even gotten the debuffs with it! It has nice support in heals and shields. It debuffs, so I'd be useful to myself and the team. It is also extremely rare in my experience. I, truthfully, have never seen one. It seems like it'd be a good fit, or am I missing something?

Overall (yes, this was long sorry all...I tend to "overthink" things ... ) I kind of want a mix between something that offers a team what it needs, as well as being able to decently hold my own in a fight solo. When I say hold my own, I understand I won't be a blaster with controls...but we've all seen what some controllers can do.

Thanks for all the reading/help/support all!
