I love it, but it always gets stuck in my teeth. Thankfully, the gods have shone their creativity in our direction.

Haha guess I forgot which league I was talking about. I went back and looked, sure enough, he was your first pick last year, even though he didn't start til November. I stand corrected, sir.

  4. 50 mil is kosher on either side. We could do blue, since that's where the majority play, or red to try and spur some teammates for us lonely villains . I can cover the 50 blueside, and have tons redside if we do that and anyone needs conversions. Will it be a major pain for you to track everyone down and get their inf?

I did a draft yesterday, and damn do I hope I do better in ours. Home aggro distractions do not mix well with timed drafts.

  6. How about putting up an inf ante? Maybe a 50mil buy-in or something... Nothing to break the bank but enough to keep it a bit more competitive. I'd volunteer to hold it, but I don't know some of you, and I would imagine you'd be weary of me holding your cash. But, I'd trust Vorac, Ny or any of the other veterans to hang onto a chunk of change for the season.

    Any thoughts?

    So who's going?

Since they really wanted to make a CG movie about super-soldiers in crazy-Crysis-suits doing insane-fast-explosive things, I wish they would have made up some garbage story for it, rather than waste this license on that bull****.
  8. It seems that we also lost our "Show All" button, for reading multi-page threads without having to click for every page. It was one of the things that I really liked about CoH forums that you don't often see elsewhere.
  9. I'm about 15 hours into Lost Odyssey, and it's a pretty damn cool RPG. The combat feels fast and fairly intense for a turn-based system. The soft level cap for areas keeps you from overpowering your enemies, eliminates grinding, and keeps the story moving. Which is the highlight of the game. EPIC cutscenes and ensuing battles bring the story to life, as do the amazing graphics. Many "dreams" are unlocked as you go, and although they're just text, they are relayed to you in a most captivating way. Some will bring a tear to your eye (or so I'm told, I'm all man lady), as they fill in past family/friends/lovers of your immortal character. Overall great game so far, well worth trying out for a couple hours if you dig a good story.

Grab the trailer video off Live, it's HD eye candy at the very least.
  10. I've spent much time lurking this forum, and have learned a lot from the masters. I've recently hit my first billion, and am quickly closing in on the second. Maybe it's all common knowledge, but I'm bored and in a typey mood and maybe I'll help someone else. So I'll share what helped me a bunch when I really got into crafting-for-profit, level 50 rare recipes.

I had 2 level 50's that I used for the operation. My corruptor started with the 200 mil or so that I had made from running tf's and flipping salvage. The widow had her 40ish mil from the road to 50. The corr was my crafter, the widow my seller. Everything in this post was done on redside, which I gather is more expensive but moves slower. I haven't messed with the blue market in a long time, but I think the info helps on either side.

I would place bids on 10-stacks of orange recipes that seemed to move quick; Devastations, Posi Blasts, Mako's, Scirocco's. I aimed for recipes that most every build could use at least one set of, for the goal of faster turnover. Farmers are everywhere, and they love their aoe's, targeted and pb, so those move quick. Once I picked the 7 or 8 recipes I was going for, I placed lowball bids on stacks of the rare salvage they would need. Getting Prophecies for 650k each rather than 1 mil is a nice feeling when the goal is profit. As the recipes started filling, I would drop more lowball bids on needed salvage, then eventually grab whichever recipes had 5 or so hits, and craft them.

The key to keeping this machine moving was the fact that I would go to my base with my corr, craft them, and drop them into an anhancement bin. Then I would switch to my widow, and have her retrieve them and put them up for sale. This way, I wasn't tying up the corr's slots with enhancements for sale. He is the factory, she is the storefront. Every once in a while, I would grab a friend to help transfer a couple hundred mil back to the corr to continue his purchasing. Maybe this wouldn't be necessary blueside where things move quicker, but it made the whole operation 10 times smoother for red.
  11. I've seen a lot of talk about how there's no need for the dbl-xp weekend anymore, and those who complain about 3 days out of the year that they outlevel content, or have to deal with large populations. While it's true that xp is easy to come by now, the loss of the event would have been sad. I can't be the only one who sees this as more of a "weekend away" with the gaming buds, rather than a OMGXPfest.

My non-CoH'er gf knows the weekend well, and stocks me up with redbull/vodka/Tony's frozen pizza-rolls, then tells her family we cannot attend whatever event because I am away for the weekend with my friends. The last double-xp, a couple of my crew, myself included, were away in another game, but resubbed for the event.

This time last summer, our band of 8 rolled up a good team comp, and leveled them 1-50. From AP to Faultline to Croatoa to Tina, we got overtired and silly. The drinkers drank through their hangovers. The non-drinkers bought large amounts of sugary candy to match our goofiness factor. We used KB for laughs until our tanker made it apparent that she was not amused, then used em sparingly amid subdued giggles. My gf had me put Skype over the speakers to hear what had me in stitches, then quickly had me put the headset back on. A normally reserved husband gasped "you a**h**** are still playing?!" at 7am, and the Cali couple signed off to go to Disneyland when the last of us dinged 50. It was "tears from laughing" good fun, and I'm glad that they are continuing with this "unneccesary" event.
  12. I'm not very vocal in JS or on these forums, but, "Can I have your stuff?"
  13. I had the same experience as you when starting this game. I played for the first few months, and just really wasn't drawn in, so I unsubbed. I had fun with my tank, but just didn't 'get it'. I later got CoV for Christmas when it first launched, and figured I'd give it another go. I have been playing ever since, minus a couple months in another game.

What keeps me playing is the ridiculous things you can do with teams. Say you make a blaster. He shoots Fire, and tosses around some Mental mind tricks. You run around getting bad guys, it's pretty fun. You kill yellows without stressing too much, but it can get old quick. Now take your blaster, get on a competent team with a tank to gather the mobs, a defender that keeps you buffed, and a controller to lock them all in place for your aoe's. Then you giggle like a little girl the first time you race through a map, dissolving large purple spawns in seconds.

They made the game fairly friendly to newcomers. You don't NEED IO's. You don't NEED to know that Kinetics can multiply the output of your team. You don't NEED to know that an Earth troller can lock down anything you come across. BUT, when you do stumble across things like this, they bring a smile to your face at just how insane the odds can be stacked against you, yet you still conquer.

Starting on Freedom or Virtue isn't a bad idea, as teams are plentiful. As much as I love my home server, Protector, when my Global list is empty, finding a team can be annoying. But, like Protector, I'm sure all servers have established crews who would seem 'closed' at first, but with little persistence, would go out of their way to show you around and get you started.

And heed the advice given above about AE missions. It's easy to find teams there, but you will possibly be teaming with the worst of the worst. I'll swing by, and jump into a team forming at AE just because it's easy to find. Then when I see someone with no vet badges, level 44, godawful build, aoe heal on auto, whining because the last mish they did gave 3960 xp per mob as opposed to the pitiful 3456 they're getting now, I realize how badly AE farms are raising our youngins.

I just returned from an extended hiatus, and this made me smile.
  15. If you can reach the spawn being out of line-of-sight, Quicksand can be a great opener. I tend to take point when I form PuG's with my Earth/Storm, and don't want the team gathered staring at the spawn, waiting for someone to start it up. I will get out of LOS and drop QS, then EarthQuake, or Volcanic Gases, or Freezing Rain. This combo will incapacitate spawns of most enemy types, and the whole group is still gathered tight for my team to unload on.

I could have opened with any of the other 3, but there would inevevitably be someone that I did not hit with the power, that would charge around the corner at me, and ruin the above scenario. QS guarantees (again, vs MOST enemy types) that they will all be stuck together, and even if VG or EQ keeps missing someone, they will still be in the path of destruction from my team.

    It could have been sarcasm.

[/ QUOTE ] twasn't sarcasm. I did get it wrong it was smokies and I guess I was wrong about the scrappers... TANK weapons didn't exsist until later. (please o lasergod let me be right)

heheh lasergod has failed you. My first toon was a fire/mace Tank made a month after release.
  17. Just looked at the Hero Planner, and I stand corrected. It just struck me... this is a guide to a powerset that was just released last week. What level do you have your Thug MM up to? Especially to be calling out powers as useless, etc., I would figure you would need to have played through at least until the point where you have all of the powers. I'm sure it is possible to have gotten one to 40ish by now, but doubtful that he was much involved in the missions. Especially since you claimed to already have a 50 in another thread. Not being a jerk, just sayin, pretty improbable that you know this set well enough to be putting out a guide. Cool thread name, at the very least.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
    Darkest Night
While active, the Villain channels negative energy onto a targeted foe. Darkest Night decreases the damage potential of the target, and all foes near the target, as long as you keep the power active. If you have ever PVP'd alot like I have, base raids, pvp zones, arena, ect. You will know this is your most powerful secondary power you have. Select Target > Click. Your set. The target will rarely, if almost never get a single hit on you, or your pets. PVP zones, people will try to run away from you when this is cast on them because simply, they cannot hit you. Take it, slot it, enjoy it!

    [/ QUOTE ]

The way you described it could be misleading. Granted, it does lower their "damage potential", but through an Accuracy Debuff. Just a little nitpick, because you worded it like it was "-Damage" like Siphon Power or Fulcrum. Just figuring, being a guide, you would want the most accurate information possible.

Also, for Twilight Grasp, you should note that each application has a Regen Debuff. With I7's AV Regen buff, even after it is patched, knowing that your heal has a -regen will be invaluable. You should tell people that, because otherwise, during AV battles, they will only use it when a heal is needed, rather than spam it for the -regen, which is what's necessary at this point.
  19. Thank you very much for this. For my last 2 characters, I was more conscious of doing more story arcs and less newspaper missions, and still ended up outleveling a couple, because I tried to finish every arc, wondering if there was a badge in it somewhere. Now I have 3 printed pages that tell me all I need to know. Much appreciated.
  20. Saying no to FootStomp?! I've got a SS/Fire at 40, and man, did the whole game change when I got FootStomp. Think about it:

Almost as much damage as Haymaker, but it hits everyone on melee range.
Knocks down almost the whole group, nearly everytime, giving you some breathing room, or time to fire off Healing Flames.

Hit Rage, and run into a pack of bad guys with BlazingAura on, targetting and running right up to the Lt or Boss. Let yourself absorb the alpha that will come from BA ticking away at everyone, giving you a nice chunk of Fury to start. Once everyone has had their crack at you, hit Footstomp. Minions will lose half of their Health, at the very least. you wail away on the boss with your normal attack chain while BA ticks away at all those around you. by the time you get the Boss or couple Lt's down, all of the minions are dead, and if not, FootStomp is recharged, and will certainly take em all out.

When I had the fury bar up, I could not wait to get into the next group and FootStomp. Minions don't stand a chance. Nevermind if you're teamed with a corruptor or two that has you buffed, or the bad guys debuffed. If someone has dropped a Tar Patch, or you have the /rad debuffs on your side, or God willing, a Fulcrum Shift from a /kin, FootStomp will one-shot yellows.

Overall, this was a nice guide. I didn't mean to nitpick one small thing. I was loving the guide right through, then I hit that one spot and my heart sank. I enjoyed my ss/fire brute from 1-40, and am glad to see someone sharing the love. I fully agree that this is the most SMASH-tastic Brute available, and definitely takes the best advantage of Fury.

Also, I thought about dropping Boxing and respeccing into Hasten with the I7 respec. I was thinking that I already have a decent attack chain without Boxing (brawl - punch - haymaker - air superiority - knockout blow - footstomp (not necessarily in that order, but thats what I've got to work with)). I did not take anything else from the Fighting Pool, so it would not mess me up in that respect. And when Hasten is running, there would be no problem with attack chain gaps no matter how you look at it. Any thoughts?
  21. I dunno if this has been done before, but I haven't seen one. I am just starting to pay attention to badges with my newer toons, and this was exactly what I have been looking for. I am still a youngin with the toon I am following this with, but will comment again once I get to higher levels. Many thanks!

  23. Awesome, thank you. I will repost it here, giving credit to Electric Tears, of Synergy on the Freedom Server for putting it together. Here are his findings, and thanks again Irontail.

Also, I found a somwehat condensed version by Stage III here

I am assuming that these enemies drop the same Origin Enhances in COV, as these guides are for COH. If I am wrong, please let me know.
  24. I know I've seen this before on these forums, I just cannot find it right now. There is a list of which bad guys from which levels drop which SOs. Along the lines of:

    From levels 15-19
Tsoo - Magic; missions, northern sharkhead
Sky Raiders - Tech, missions only

Please don't tell me the examples I just provided are wrong, I am just making them up to illustrate what i am looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
