Has anyone got a link to a source that could help me understand how to optimize a character in this game?
Hehe, four and a half years ago I felt exactly the same, but no one was around to point me in any direction at all, I stumbled aimlessy about, thinking daft things, like Rest was used a lot, better get some recharge in it and other daft things, like Hand Clap looked great and flurry was awesome, and Whirlwind was great on teams....luckily I learned fast (was before I was ill) and I'm still here playing this wonderful game.

What the others say is true, there's a wealth of information on Paragonwiki.com and other player driven sites linked to it to. And this games tutorial and way it guides you at the beginning is great. Just avoid sewer teams and the AE to start and do your starting contact to begin with, heck even solo for a bit if you feel like you would look a fool otherwise, and read all the stuff that pops up in the tutorial and your first contacts missions. Walk before you can run, many people have gone for instant gratification of levels and just completely missed how to play the game in recent times. You will find many old timers on each server willing to help out as althought there is phat lewt in this game, there is not as much emphasis on it till the later game and is not neccessary to do any of the content.

Welcome to City of Heroes, may your stay be as long and enjoyable as mine

So much so that I never seriously participate in Q&As, either in-game, on the forums, or in any other venue, because it would be unfair. I'm willing to help you try to get your questions answered, if you actually have legitmate questions that can be answered. If that is of no benefit to you, that's fine. I have no other point to prove there.
Not getting involved in your discussions between each other, but I think this all goes to show that typing a few ideas and actually been sat in front of someone discussing it equals a lot of misinterpritation and anger levels rising..

I'm sure if player A was sat in front of the devs actually speaking to them, rather than typing out a question like they were making notes they might get the question across better than player B who could write disitations on a question and all the possible outcomes. This doesn't just apply here I think, but accross the forums as a whole.

I think that without actually speaking to someone it is difficult to ask the pertinant questions, but having a crib list as a prompt would help. The expanision on how you expanded one of the questions earlier in the thread shows exactly how someone with a list of bullet point would expand them.

So with that in mind.....next time we have Q&A's lets all PM them to Arcaneville ( or a few others on the forums who are good at that kind of thing) to expand the bullet points into fully formed questions, as I know I am good at bullet points, and interviewing people face to face, but not as good as others here at the written ones.

Just make a sorting/access terminal that allows the player using it the same access they are allotted to the storage units. Still saves time and for small SG/VGs that are used mostly for storage and the like, it lets people save a lot of search time. So if character A has rank 3 and access to storage bins 1-4 but not 5-8, the terminal only shows items in said terminals. Don't really see all the doom and gloom you are worried about, nor the difficulty in implementing it since all you will be doing is linking them kind of like how the WW/BM system works.
That is exactly the way I was thinking it to, I know I find it annoying looking through 14 Storage racks to find that one piece because even with the best organisation it gets tedious.

At the moment I try to pit rares in the 1st 2, uncommons in the next 3 in a room and expensive commons in the rest. But eventually you do loose track. But a system where additional rack add to capacity with 1 access point, but with flagged access per 30 would be a good work around. I don't know how it would be linked or implimented, but it would be a start.
  9. Because the Devs hate villains...hang on, this can't be right....*shrugs shoulders*

Ermm, what they said, PM him and see, but if Brutes and Doms get it nerfed down to 20 seconds because he didnt realise and its an oversight the fire brutes/doms are gonna come round and get you

[QUOTE]There are two different ways to get the City of Heroes Going Rogue expansion: as a separate expansion, or as part of the Complete Collection.

The separate City of Heroes Going Rogue expansion costs $29.99 (€19.99 / £17.99) and requires you to already have City of Heroes. The separate expansion doesn’t include game time, so you must be an active subscriber to play. The separate expansion does not include the Complete Collection Item Pack. The separate expansion will only be available digitally, and will be available for prepurchase starting in March (see below for more information on what you get from prepurchasing this separate expansion).

The City of Heroes Going Rogue: Complete Collection costs $39.99 (€29.99 / £26.99) and includes City of Heroes Going Rogue as well as City of Heroes, City of Villains, 30 days of game time, and the Complete Collection Item Pack. With the game time and previous expansions included, it is ideal for those who are new to City of Heroes franchise (perhaps as a gift!), but also a good value for players not interested in prepurchasing. The Complete Collection will be available both digitally and at retail (in North America) starting in July and cannot be prepurchased (only the separate expansion can be prepurchased).

Starting at launch in July, players who prepurchased or bought just the separate City of Heroes Going Rogue expansion will be able to upgrade to the Complete Collection. The upgrade will include the Complete Collection Item Pack, but it won’t include any game time.[QUOTE]

First off, sorry, but I have no idea how to multi quote differant posts, but cutting and pasting I'm ok with, so I just cut and pasted the above from the ways to get GR, which In sure your all familiar with.

As you see, it's only the pre purchase thats $29.99, the full game expansion is $10 more. Now if that's not a full game price I din't know what is, but you will be able to ungrade GR to the full version if you pre purchased, you just wont get a months free gaming. I'm sure that people created a few threads about the bonus gametime and pack ammounting to more than $10 somewhere, I could be wrong. So whilst I agree with you, anyone who wanted Pistols and Demons NOW!! are going to be paying a cheaper price now if they don't upgrade later, the actual Going Rogue retailing at launch is comparable to a full game.

And again, I will just say, I am pointing this out for many of you, do you actually think that I am saying this for purely selfish reasons. I have still got 5 or 6 spare slots on Virtue and over a dozen on my next three servers I play on a lot to buy, should I choose to. I also have some servers I don't play much on at all, but have characters on, that I will probably be playing on more. Everyone who has played on just one server, and calls it home, and just wants to stay on that server would benefit from several suggestions brought up over slots on this thread. If I only played on one server now it would most definately be full. If you want to say your happy with what we're getting, or about the price, then thats fine, if we didn't have an issue that gave us all two slots at the time for nothing I would be happy about it to probably, but I along with 99% of the playerbase will be paying for a completely new area that they could expand on.

In future issues who's to say that Preatoria doesn't expand to be at least like The Rogue Isles is in zones and size, we never know it already could be, 1-20 we know thats in, as Preatorians decide then if they're good or evil, but 31-50, who knows yet. I am just saying, wouldn't it be nice if we got more than two. A free server transfer window like they did at Xmas would be nice during the anniversary celebrations, so people that were expecting more or now they realise that it's more then the pistols and demons and preatorian characters they wanted, the Kinetic Melee and Electric Control characters they now want can be factored in on there favourite servers where all their online friends are.

Anyway, It's obvious we all can't wait to get our hand on GR to start with, so much to do on it when it comes out, and where to start to with it. I just hope it's oh so close to been complete as I am worried that 3 months maximum to keep up with the retail release will not be enough time to stress test it in open beta to iron things our for its proper release.

You know, all I was saying was that apart from this one thing...only 2 extra character slots per account, compared to the last retail release is poor, a few more posts may not be as vocal as myself, but you really do not seem to really want to be bothered on it apart say we should be happy with it. You have decided it's fair, and that's it. As for bringing in Straw man arguments, well thanks for that, didn't have a clue what you were on about, I would call that an over reaction ans maybe a tad sensitive. But it has proved to me the lengths you will go to and ignore any discussion about it just to try and rubbish someone else. Any arguments and discussion put forward do not seem to matter at all if it does not conform to your view point, as any little bits will just be quoted and rounded on anyway. I maybe should have put some and bin the post to lighten it up a bit, but then again, I don't think that would have mattered really.

Overall, we both must like this game, otherwise we still wouldn't be around playing it after so long, but 2 slots is what we got with an issue when they expanded the overall slots to 36 and brought out the VEATS (think it was the same time), so just 2 when we have a Gamechanging product like Going Rogue seems to do it a diservice, as many people have filled all there slots with charaxters already, might be only able to afford the new release at the time and want to play more that 2 new characters in Preatoria, heck each AT is getting a new powerset to start AND we're getting a new starting zone. With all the teaming and leveling madness, even if you have a couple of slots and play on more than 1 server with mates (RL and online) those 2 slots are not going to go far.

Maybe another free server transfer window during the 6th Anniversary Festivities could help with this, now we know what we're getting, as a lot of people only play on 1 or 2 servers mainly and may have some "Storage" slots available to place characters put out to pasture to give them room for when GR hits. Yes people knew GR was coming out, but many probably expected more than 2 tokens, and a few might have been expecting another 12 purchaseable slots with 4 or 5 with the box. For many they may have already planned what they were doing with GR, but maybe before they knew about Kinetic Melee and Elec Control, as Pistols and Demons were known about but no others so a new plan needs to be worked out. Anyway, just a few ideas and discussion points for everyone, but I probably already know the reply I will read in the morning

And in fact, we *do* have DR in the PvE world, it's called ED, which, once the IO system came out, is regarded by most PvE-ers who understand game mechanics and balance, a good thing.

CoV gave us an extra 4 free slots.

Then, for no specific reason, Paragon Studios gave us another 24 slots! That's 24 slots! Extra. Without having to pay for them.

Well, except for the fact that the 24 extra slots were locked and we have to pay to unlock them.

However, Paragon Studios gave everyone 2 free unlocks (Slot Tokens) when they gave us the 24 extra slots.

Then they gave us a free Slot Token for every year you've been subscribed to the game as Veteran Rewards.

Now, they're giving us 2 more free Slot Tokens for Going Rogue.

Paragon Studios has been very generous with this feature they could have charged dearly for, like WoW does.

And they gave us two months of FREE SERVER TRANSFER so people can move characters around in preparation for GR. Which is another service that other games charge dearly for.

    Again, they've been exceedingly generous.
So the four slots per server we got with the last retail pack (CoV) added up to 44 Slots in total to use straight away (on the North American Servers ). The Veteran Program is an incentive to stay subscribed to the game, so in effect we pay to play the game and at the end of each year we are rewarded with one free slot as part of that incentive scheme.

I like many have a lot of characters, a heck of a lot, and whilst I am happy with the purchase system, I have used it 5 times quite easily myself, I was just saying that TWO tokens is a bit of a meanine compared to the last retail expansion, when exeryone who bought the last one was granted four per server. And I know that everyone was granted two when they expanded it to 24 purchaseable slots, there decision, not ours. Free stuff is free, this is paid for, and going off the last retail expansion, the slots given are a bit...sparse.

You keep thinking they're generous, you must be easy pleased. But if you don't ask, you wont get. You'll be telling me next that our monthly subs don't go towards paying the staffs wages as they work on the "Free" updates they produce a few times a year to keep us playing here.

Incidentally, I love this game with a passion I sometimes suprise myself with, and like many of us here make noises just because we want Our game to be the very best it can be, as it's good now, but has the potential to be oh so much more and magnificent.

That asside, everything else looks good, looking forward to next week with relish and it's my cake day in July so I am looking forward more than ever to july, apart from th 39th birthday bit hehe.
  16. TWO CHARACTER SLOT "TOKENS".....TWO SLOT "TOKENS" !!!!"£$%

Bloomin cheapscates, when Villains hit as a retail we got FOUR per server, here they go giving us just TWO slot tokens.

This is the only gripe I have though at he moment.

    Hello Thorth

Hello, first off, I hope I remembered your accounts name right and character.

Secondly, welcome to City of Heroes, was nice meeting you in game today, and I hope you stay for a long time, its a great game that I found four and a half years ago, and have been playing it ever since.

Now, I know that theirs a lot to take in when you first start, and if you had a forum accout I would PM this to you, but as we were talking I thought it would be easier to do it this way. Its just a skeleton of a build I have done, using just Single Origin Enhancments, the cheap ones obtainable from vendors in the game. There is lots of guides on IO'ing out tanks on the Forums, and everyone thinks differant. But hopefully this will give you an idea of power selection etc. This is the basic build for my Teaming tank without IO's that I had. It did its job very admirably without any fancy enhancemnts, and can solo and team very well.

Anyway, it's just to give you an idea of how to build a WP/SS tank, don't take it as gospel, and never feel obligated to pick any of the powers in any order I have put down. It worked for me, but might not work for you. Taunt for example, you will find some lengthy threads on, I found that most hero TFs didn't need it myself, but in the 45+ game found it to be of benefit on the tank as its taunt aura is the weakest in the tanking work.

I will leave you to find out the wonderful world of IO's at your own pace, but never be afraid to ask on the forums if your stuck.

  23. 3 Crab Spiders, all TT Running + 5 DS/well irrelevant really, but a pain, dark and a poison in there would be nice . hehe....MMs can just walk around in BG mode laying damage down, and the Crab Spiders all with the ranged AoE and of course the 5 (possibly 6 depeandant on build) pets out at once...and capped def

    Enjoy!!!
  24. This is what I am working towards on a brute atm, got the same build already on a scrapper. It does a dream, can't wait to get the brute to the same lvls, only 22 at this time after 2 days.

Ranged is still softcapped after the BotZ change, even though it diesnt show in mids yet.

Although a lot of your bonus percentage look better, you are missing a lot of defence and to a lesser extent resistance by not slotting your defences properly to start, just an observation.

  25. Baring sudden hospitalisational illness (dont laugh, it happened the other month to me) or a major disaster of Global ( or even just for Yorkshire) consequence, I can report for duty on sunday at 10 am, I can bring Power Maiden SD/Elec Tank or Power Lady Elec/SD Scrapper, both softcapped.
