    I miss......

    [ QUOTE ]
I miss the begninings of Union RP. Prize, Fury/Hunter, Gabbleduck (though the excellent Lief is still about), Midnight Agent (The_Question, I wish he'd come back.), Synaesthetix, Shadowplay, Pyroclast, The Pest, Inverse/Darkie, Catch/frozenphoenix, so many others.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Shadowplay: I am still here, Synaesthetix is as well, he just never RPs. But I have to admit I really miss the people in the above list, especially Fury, Prize and Darkie.

PS: Admittedly I don't RP much these days because during RP prime times 20:00-23:00 GMT I am usually busy, which is nice and a shame really at the same time, socialising in the flesh is blocking me from socialising in game.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
So, if you're immortal, strictly speaking you cannot die by any means I guess.

I could be wrong though, languages never whir mi strongist poynt!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Highlander was called an immortal, yet he could be killed by chopping off his head.

Baldr is called an immortal, yet he gets killed just before Ragnarok starts by getting hit by a piece of mistletoe of all things.

The titans where immortal yet a score of them where killed by Zeus and his kin in pre Olympian myths.

Sides, we're nitpicking a word can have multiple meanings, I just think that generally speaking, immortals have been known to kick the bucket, albeit very difficultly.
  3. Immortal is not to be mortal. Not subject to the same rules as humans, it usually means to be ageless and nearly unkillable by most normal means. Examples are the gods antiquity, like the Norse pantheon or the Olympians, very hard to kill but there are plenty of stories of them dying, usually in some epic fashion.

Some superheroes fit that bill just fine, Hercules and Thor from Marvel obviously, but also Superman and Statesman to a degree, definitely Statesman and Recluse more so then supes since they seem to be trully ageless while Supes just ages very very slowly.
  4. Fave would be Requiem, he's a Nazi affiliated villain, he's damn old and has a wealth of experience to draw from, intelligent and charming his interactions with your character always rivet my full attention. Simply wonderful, kind of reminds me of Doctor Doom when well written.

Least favourite is easily Statesman, as the equivalent of Superman he fails because he's not remotely as innocent and likeable, as the equivalent of Captain America he fails because he's not remotely as inspiring and smart. Generally speaking it's clear to me that he is a horribly written Gary Stu char, I've been hoping to see him downplayed since Jack Emmert left.
  5. My empath, staying awake in a decent team is really challenging.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
You obviously speak, read & write English, the only other Greek who plays that I know (Tainted Greek) is also an English speaker, I wonder how many of the other non UK people who play on the English language EU servers can speak English

    [/ QUOTE ]

It seems I haven't been loud enough recently. However I would like to point out that CoX has had a lot of weirdness where the servers are concerned, I've been in arguments whether the servers are English or english speaking, which is quite ridiculous since I've never faced this kind of discrimination in other online communities. The fact that the boards are named uk.board.cityofX.com does not help a lot either.

Anyway, sorry for going on an off topic rant, ignore me.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Between stackable holds and AOE slows, Heat Loss and all the stackable debuffs, I can solo +2/3 Death Mages if I've got a Breakfree handy (and preferably a mid/large yellow).

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think my only char that can't consistently solo +2/3 Death Mages is my Empath. But yeah Cold/Ice is a nice set.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
Which is why when I actually formally announce the contest, it'll be on the website.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which is exactly as Bridger did, so I really don't see how anyone can claim that contests like this are only for Forumites, obviously it's not for people who can't bother to get involved in the CoX community, but then we really can't do anything about them eh?
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Also it's likely that the proliferated-set characters Alphane has are his newer characters and so he may be playing them better (purely due to getting better as time/experience goes on).

    [/ QUOTE ]

That would be my guess as well.
  10. Best of luck to those losing their jobs, I know I hate it when I'm job hunting.

We'll see what this means for the rest of us, I'm still optimistic about this where it concerns me. This could mean merger with the US boards, which I would like and going in the same server list as the US servers, kind of like the way it was when I played SWG, you have the EU servers in europe, but EU players and US players can play anywhere.

However I do hope that more people don't lose their jobs over this.

PS: wistful thinking aside I do realise that all this means for now is that people are losing their jobs and a game that was in development is getting axed.
  11. I'm not even going to touch the Cold/Ice, but Plant/ Emp, why in dogs name do you think Plant is more powerful then other controller sets? I mean it's a fine set, but it's not largely different from what controllers have already in other primaries.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
I feel like it's years since the community team seemed genuinely interested in the game, or the community

    [/ QUOTE ]

I remember the same fricking response from Kerensky one year ago, I personally don't care since it's just a game and I'll play it as long as it's fun, and it's still fun.

Obviously GR and K are just doing their job, most of the time reasonably well, however the response wait and see is a bit silly when we've been hearing for about a couple of years now. However I still have some hope left on this, considering NC would not have made this investment if it did not expect to make it's money back.
  13. I have a clue what you're on about, I just totally disagree.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Or it could be I misread the title of this section of the forums thinking 'General discussion' meant just that not 'General abuse'

    [/ QUOTE ]

Extra Extra, read all about it! Disagreeing with someone can now be considered abusive!

People scamper trying to find what will be the uniform ideal we must all follow to avoid abusiveness.

Yes, how could I not see it all this time, people having different opinions is so troublesome.
  15. I always found the tweaks to the game interesting and most of the time reasonable, especially in old powersets. Sure you get a nerf every now and then like what Archery got before it went live, but mostly the buffs and debuffs the devs grace us with have valid logic behind em.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Anyway, I see that we don't "understand" the word "hardcore" the same way. For me doing something a lot isn't enough to label it as hardcore activity.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Here is a bit of enlightenment courtesy of an English dictionary.

    [ QUOTE ]
    hard core
    n.
    1. The most dedicated, unfailingly loyal faction of a group or organization: the hard core of the separatist movement.
    2. An intractable core or nucleus of a society, especially one that is stubbornly resistant to improvement or change.
    3. often hard·core (härdkôr, -kr) A form of exceptionally harsh punk rock.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think definition 1. is the one that we are interested in.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
PS : I find your last sentence tactless.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I find you bringing in the real life army into a discussion about PvP on a computer -game- tactless.
  18. [ QUOTE ]

    Nice Leif, real nice. 1 2 3

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's a joke, nice one too.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Am I the only one who thought Carebears were chillingly evil?

I mean they find people who don't live like they want them to, mean people, grouches and so on.

And then with a rainbow cheery named psionic power, lobotomize the person and make them 'happy and nice'

    [/ QUOTE ]

I always thought they where evil as well, it's why I like using the term carebear in a negative fashion.

To people who can't stand the way PvPers talk, ignore broadcast, I rarely even spare a glance at it while in PvP zones. To people who can't stand how PvPers talk on the boards, well tough luck, generally I've never found more stupid comments from one group (PvPers) then from another (non PvPers) and if someone gets out of hand the heavy hand of the Mods squash it.

I am noticing a trend in people who don't like to PvP however, they hate advice.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
How to accomplish that? I don't really see any way other than cross-server PvP zones. (and that would most likely mean cross-atlantic as well)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Amen brother! I've been saying this for years.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
As the length of any thread discussing PvP increases, the probability that none PvPers will be likened to Carebears tends to equal 1.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I call em as I see em, a Carebear is a carebear, for example Leif isn't a carebear in my book because he actually bothers to think things through in a manner that doesn't ignore the feelings of his fellow players, he'll state his opinion and he'll try to look at things from other peoples perspective as well.

Ergo, not carebear. It's the I don't PvP so why should there be PvP idiots that bug me. Same can be said to those who have similar feelings about RPers.

PS: To further make a point, I don't understand how Z or RW can be called carebears either, a rough definition of carebear taken from the Wikipedia which is as good a source of info as any on this kind of matter.
    [ QUOTE ]
The term carebear is used disparagingly for an MMORPG player who never fights other players, only computer controlled enemies (Player versus environment).

    [/ QUOTE ]
Emphasis mine, and quite frankly carebears who are understanding about -other- peoples need for PvP I don't mind, and I would not use such a negative term for them.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
There you go, prime example of the type of comment I was talking about.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because I'm a hard core PvPer and I will crush you with my leetness..
  23. [ QUOTE ]
I mostly stay out of pvp threads because you guys have made it clear that you just don't want to know what non-pvpers have to say about it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I mostly stay out of PvP threads if they are not in the PvP boards because I really have no interest of listening to the carebears shoot another barrage of "OMG PVP KILLED COX" and how the devs waste time on it.

Quite frankly I think PvP is one of the aspects of the game that the Devs need to look at if they hope to keep this game alive past the launch of DCO and CO. I am not even a hard core fanatic of PvP, however I would like to occasionally take a break from RPing and PvE and dable in it, right now it's really not as engaging and interesting as it should be.
  24. [ QUOTE ]

If you want more people in the PvP zones, I'm afraid you're going to have to listen to the non-PvPers and to what appeals to them as they're who you have to recruit.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Or make PvP more interesting so PvPers like for instance me, who just haven't bothered in CoH start getting involved.

I know about three people off the top of my head who PvP regularly on WoW but never bothered to in CoH.

    [ QUOTE ]
If I'm moving about, I can't chat. If I can't chat in a MMO, well... they're supposed to be social, aren't they?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I can see the logic here, but generally that's not how PvP usually works in any game. Not just MMOGs mind you, but anything multiplayer that pits human against human, that's why I like playing multiplayer games locally on the console, if your mate is being a *******, you can just whack them.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
That's why you pool all the potential players from both sides of the Atlantic using the Battlezone servers.

And I can't believe anyone took that even vaguely seriously.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's actually something that's been mentioned as a work in progress or at least an idea the dev team has looked at.

Personally I think it's a brilliant idea and would solve a bunch of stuff, nothing wrong with ripping off good ideas from other games. Heck I wish WoW had SK/Exemps.
