  1. ...for power proliferation! Give them Dual Pistols!

They could some weapon sets! And getting the others ported would be nice too. But this set, I'd love to see ported over next!

So it's not really 'fanwank that loses the meaning of enhancements as present in game', but rather how they ARE presented in game. Read the descriptions of some of the enhancements if you have doubt.
I see one flaw with this. Mostly in the fact that you're using it in the subtext of the easy to work around magic origin.

    POW BAM KAPLOW!

*Looks down* OH! Look at this! He dropped some DNA! I will now injest this mutant DNA so I can enhance my abilities!

All salvage is dirt cheap to the vendors, and Set recipes are even CHEAPER than they should be. And you know why? As a direct incentive to sell them on the Market. On the one hand, that's good, because it ensures supply. On the other hand, that's bad, because you depend on demand.

Easy example: A piece of rare salvage sold to the vendors brings me 5000 inf. A piece of rare salvage sold to the Market will almost always bring me 70 000 - 150 000 basically at any point after level 15 or so. A couple of days ago, I got a drop from just running missions, which I listed for 5000 and sold for 20 million. I don't know what recipe it was, but it was not unique or purple. Just a regular set drop that didn't look at all remarkable. That would have sold for MAYBE 50 000 at the vendor.
    Oh I know this.

My point was to those saying you have to play the market. About the loss of TO/DO drops in higher levels.

Really, what did I do with TO/DO drops once I could slot SOs, before IO sets? I sold them.

I don't recall TO/DO's selling for all that much, at least as much as the generic recipes that drop.

And once you hit 50...getting generic lvl 50 recipes and just selling them to the vendor can make enough to finance another toon with SOs through out their carreer.

Is that what you're referring to? So, does that ever state WHICH era, version or style of comic books, or hell... Does it even state AMERICAN comic books? Because I searched, and I couldn't find it. In fact, I couldn't find any mention of "super hero" at all. There's "hero" and there's "comic book" but that's about it.

First of all, even if we assume this is a super hero comic book of silver to pre-modern age American comic books of a very specific style, I cannot agree that that should mean other styles should be consistently given minor importance. Whatever the game's genre may be called, the fact of the matter is that people play this game for themes from practically all across the board. Science fiction, film noir, slasher flicks, anime, action flicks, fantasy, paranormal, conspiracy theory, cloak-n-dagger, spy thriller... One of THE greatest strengths of this game is its ability to absorb absolutely any concept and make it work within its world, so if you're trying to weigh your personal preference more than those of other people just because the game happens to have "comic book" in its description, then I simply cannot agree with you.

Furthermore, you yourself admit you're sticking to a particular subset of American super hero comic book, and you're trying to judge based on that preference. However, the availability of themes even just in comic books is a lot broader than this. ANYTHING you can come up with as an example of things not in comic books, I can bet money someone will come out and quote out of a comic book. And then there are non-American comic books, like manga, which people keep unfairly excluding. You know what? Foreshadow - the man who butted the Statesman out of centre stage for City of Hero and who was billed as one of the most powerful heroes in the city, could as well have been right out of a manga. And that's without even thinking about it too hard.

You're completely justified in preferring what you prefer and asking that it be prioritised. But please don't try to use empty justifications to give it undue weight. It just ends up annoying people who don't share your view of what the game "should be about."

City of Heroes: Online Super Hero Game by NCSoft (The Page Tag).

See, it says it right on the page tag...SUPER HERO.

And I'm okay with different themes. I'm okay with the occaissional screwy concept.

But adding more options, imo, to create less typical Super Hero, is just going to mean we see less Super Heroes, in a Super Hero game that already has A LOT of non-super hero ideas running around.

So, why not make more SUPER HERO (and Villain) options, before more of the "Look I made my bear gut, battle axe wielding drawf barbarian from our LOTR games" options?
  7. Tough call really.

Scrappers have the feeling of being a superhero to me. Playing a scrapper is like playing a superhero who actually warrants their own solo comic (even if they dont have one).

Sadly, my favorite powerset is handsdown, Dual Pistols! The animations don't give the feeling of staying in one position.

Pistols has multiple animations that get used on it, and the other attacks don't have you using the same basic stance and just pointing and shooting, which I get the feeling with alot of other sets.

I don't see why anyone would think straight ports.

Not saying it can't happen. And for Melee toons, it possibly more likely.

But a Troller Epic Pool for Doms? they already get a single taget blast in their Secondary, I don't see them getting another in their epic.

Wouldn't Kingpin be more Huge build with a max physique? After all he's only 2% body fat. He's all muscle.

I'd still say it's the exception. And I also said I hope it's the last thing added (not to never add it). There's just other very superhero-y things that can be worked on imo, that would be better.

...but I'm doing about 22 more DPS (we both have gaps on a seemless Pistols -> Dual Wield -> Pistols -> ES -> Repeat single target attack chain)...but where as you're getting around 88 DPS (lethal rounds), I'm getting 110 DPS (lethal rounds). This is not including the -resist proc I have slotted in Pistols or the use of Concentration (MM's Build Up) or the Build Up Proc I have in Tactics.

You're AOE is better, with Psychic Scream thrown into the mix and more damage slotted than mine as well (on Empty Clips and Bullet Rain).

I only lack the PvP IO and 2 sets of the purple Ios in my build so it's not complete, and likely a long work in progress, as I try to make it better (and still fun for me )

How so? You dont have to sell those recipes and salvage at WW/BM. You can just go to an NPC store and sell them.

Like I said exceptions to the rule, and looking at that list, I wouldn't count #9 or #10, as one is the actor (not the character) who's likely to shed some weight for the part anyways. The other was a contestant of who wants to be a super hero.

Two of them where about stories of the heroes being out of action for awhile (Incredibles/Watchmen).

And I seriously doubt it ruins the immersion for "a lot of people," since outside of the exceedingly rare complain, I simply don't see this. Not in-game, not on the forums.

Furthermore, it's actually pretty insulting to suggest what you suggest. Say I keep making non-traditional heroes because that's I like. Heroes who fit into the setting mind you. Are you seriously going to try and suggest I'm doing it wrong and the game shouldn't be about my concepts? That what I want more of should be added last because it's not what YOU want?

City of Heroes is not and has never been a comic book simulator. It's a game inspired by comic books, but it is not a game that IS a comic book. It is not a game that is dictated to by what you see in a comic book. It is a game with its own fiction, its own story and its own thematics. If you want a game that's desperately trying to be an interactive comic book, that's what Champions Online is practically in its entirety. Since I'm posting on this forum and not that one, I obviously prefer this game.

And, again, we're running up against an extremely narrow view of what comic books represent. If you want to stick to just silver age or golden age spandex costumes and campy heroes, then go right ahead, but comic books are much more wide and varied than just that. I can almost guarantee you that there is not a single (serious) character that you can take out of this game and NOT find similarity with in at least some comic book somewhere.

In short, stop trying to impose your vision of thematics onto other people's game. The chief selling point of City of Heroes is freedom in customization.
Actually, I try to stick to silver/modern age.

That said. Where did I, in my post, say not to add it? I just said I'd rather see it be one of the last things put in.

The OP put in a suggestion. Would you have rather me just put in "/unsigned" and left it at that?

And notice I say superhero comic. Not comic book. Got to the main page, it even says "A Super Hero Online Game". So what's wrong with me wanting to see it stay more super hero and less D&D Adventure?

If they put it, they put it in. However, if it's something they want to work towards, I'd say make it one of the last things they put it in.

Read a superhero comic. It's not that common. No really, it isn't. Blob, Big Bertha...they're the exceptions in superheo comics.

Adding this would ruin the immersion for alot of people, because alot of people already do non-superhero creations in a superhero mmo. Why would you want to add to it?

Also, to add to this discussion. On the recent chat with the devs, they flat out said no to huge female builds. Not "Possibly in the the future" or "not with the tech we have" they said "No"

It's not possible. Similar to how it's not possible to have a concept that makes you as tall as a building, walk through walls, or duplicate yourself. The game is limited by the system, as are the concepts we can create.

It is the fault of the author for creating concepts that do not fit the powersets. It is not the fault of the system. It is one thing to claim that recoloured dark blasts are actually water blasts, that's fine and dandy, but it is something else to claim that in-game enhancements DON'T EXIST. That is godmodding of the highest caliber. You are actively telling me that my characters are not able to do something that is supported both by the game system and the game's lore.

If you are intent on "changing the rules", then don't expect people to agree with you. That said, Don't take my criticism too seriously. I know a lot of RPers like to circumvent the enhancement system, text fight in Pocket D, play "peacebringers than aren't peacebringers", and do all manner of different things not supported by the game's system/lore. There's nothing wrong with it. It's only a game after all and "OMG SUPER STRICT RP RULEZ YOU HAF 2 FOLLOW" would be a retarded idea.

I just personally find it more interesting to play with what we have, rather than try and make up something we don't.
Oh no offense taken. I was just curious as to those who do use it.

I mean, take Spider-Man. I just don't picture him going to WWs, grabbing a needle and saying "Well, I need to increase my strength" and basically shooting himself up with more chemicals, to go from that 1ton strength limit he had in the beginning, to that 10ton limit he has now.

I also myself picked up CoH to play a more "comicbook styled game" as was advertised. Saying the use of enahncements as anything more than a game mechanic takes away from that. As well as RPing that inspirations are infact tangible as well.

Mind you, I also see a difference between...

*slaps a med patch on self* [uses a respite]

    and

"Hey, you got knocked out, here let me give you an awaken."

I agree with this. However, I have to ask, why isn't the KIN making it known that they did infact SKIP Speed Boost?

Unless you're extremely new to CoH, when you roll a KIN, you know when people invite you, they're likely to want the SB. You know, when you put KIN in the LFT Description, or broadcast it looking for a team, or say "Hey I can bring my KIN for the TF" they're expecting you to have SB (for the majority of people anyways).

Now, I'm not saying you have to pick it, but why isn't that part being brought up?

Mind you the same goes for the FF, Cold Doms, Sonic and Thermals who don't say "Hey I skipped my ally buff shields".

Why isn't that being brought up before the team invite? the answer is simple, you're alot less likely to get team invites.

I mean, sure it's a different story, when all they say is I'm a troller or I'm a defender. But when they advertise what they are, they know people are going to be inviting them for a specific reason.

And why the "Lvl 49 KIN Troller lft" when they could just say "Lvl 49 Troller lft" or "Lvl 49 Ice Troller lft".

Mentioning the KIN part means, they're trying to sell themselves on their Secondary. Which makes their arguement "I'm a controller, I control, I don't buff my team" more eye popping as they were selling themselves based on the Secondary to begin with.

NOTE: When I say "you" I don't mean you (Dechs), I'm using you, as a general blanket term for those who do it. Whether you (Dechs) do this I have no idea. But the point I think is valid.
  20. His Fire/Fire Scrapper...

...hmmm...I'd say /COLD for sure. For Theme I'd likely say go Ice/Cold and pickup Frostbite to go with his Burn.

    2. Yes (Emote fighting is lame. If you want to fight my character be prepared to actually do so.)
    3. There are never any lore reasons for new powersets. It is merely coincidence that 800 archers randomly show up in Paragon City.
    4. Yes
    5. Yes
    6. None of this happens in game. Look at the enhancement names. The store owners "train" your hero - consider the stores full of instruction manuals rather than physical objects.
    7. Yes.

I don't RP enhancements as tangible things either. They can be sometimes, but the majority of the time they are other things - blessings from gods, mutations, spells, combat training, etc, etc.
Actually, there was. They did the whole write up for it when powersets proliferation came about.

...oh...well, okay, new powersets may not get the story treatment, but powers proliferated did.

Because of Dr Aeons tech, Brutes can now pick up and wield an Axe and Corruptors can now pick up a bow.

As for 6...I don't know. The enhancement's dont have training style names. In fact, they seem to have more of a "oh look, let me add some of these DNA into my system" type of names.

As for actual fighting...I still can't see game mechanics taking into consideration concepts.

Concept 1) I'm just a normal person with a sword. No special powers. I'm just a regular person who got tired of seeing good people get hurt. (Power sets BS/Regen...they are RPed as a normal person, Regen is just one of the best sets available for one on one)

    VS

Concept 2) I am the god of thunder! I am Zues! Elec/Elec Blaster. The Zues that made Statesman an incarnate.

Outcome...normal man just kicked Zues's behind in arena. How is that possible with those concepts?

That said, I'm not going to kick somebody for failing to do their job, unless they just plain aren't trying to contribute at all.
This is a valid point. And something to think about.

Make a scrapper, just take the first attack from the primary, all the other power choices are secondary and pool powers.

So, here's you an "IOed BS/SR" as advertised by their LFT Description in a PuG OR It's a concept build and they're in your SG...they get on the team, and when not busy healing, debuffing, trying to lay down control with Char, they'll use Slash (because it uses less end).

...so this Scrapper just joined the team people. Do you kick them or quietly excuse yourself from the team? Or do you keep them on the team/stay on the team and figure the others on the team can pick up their slack.

Oh, and they're using their powers at the very least. Sure, nevermind there's 1 other IOed Scrapper on the team, 2 IOed Blasters, a Fire/Kin Troller (who uses SB), a SS/Shield Tanker, a RAD/RAD Defender [EDIT: Removed a blaster from the question and added this--->] and whatever YOUR toon is.

His skillsets; such as being a ninja, knowing various martial arts, knowing pressure points, are all enhancements to his natural powersets. (Similar to SO's such as "Back Alley Strike" and a whole bunch of natural-themed SOs.)

Even if all of this is incorrect, even if Wolverine in fact doesn't have enhancements; it's not really relevant to the matter at hand. Enhancements & IOs exist in the game lore. If you ignore them, then you are ignoring part of the game's story.
    So when RPing...you...

    1) Always get healed up. Never go through the "I'm injured phase, taken out of the hero/villain work" due to the med bay being an instant heal in game canon wise?

    2) Never fight in the D, because in game canon wise, you can't (and I've been to the D...people emote fight there all the time).

    3) Accept that the reason new power sets arrive to the ATs is because Dr. Aeon has made it possible for a brute to pick up a set of metal claws and hit someone with them.

    4) That all your toons red side, have a microchip implanted in them to know when they're injured so they can be medi-ported.

    5) All your hero do indeed have a hero license, as that's how you get access to their medi-ports.

    6) That obviously in game cannon wise, you go to a store look around and say, why yes, I would like to buy myself a superpower. And while I'm here, I better go check down aisle 6 for some stamina enhancements, those carnie girls really know how to have a good time, and love to tire me out.

    7) Everytime you play a villain to lvl 40+ you basically become part of Arachnos, and that PPP you took, just made you that patron's little buddy. Nope, they're not a part of you characters natural abilities at all, they were taught to you by that patron (so, you're not Elec/Elec/Mu Brute because you have mutant Abilities, you're Elec/Elec/Mu because you're a mutant that's learned mu abilities.

This is why, I don't RP enhancements as tangible things one can hold in their hand, and just say, "Oh, I could use this now, let me...ummm...hmmm...hey where's the instructions for this? Do I swallow this or is it a suppository?"

And like I said, this is just me. Others are free to RP sticking those enhancements on themselves however they want.

Thanks! I had hoped to hit 1000+ YouTube subscriptions before the game's anniversary for when I post my tribute video, but I'm still short of the mark by rather a lot. Oh, well, hopefully the new one will draw in more folks.

And one of these days, I need to get the resources to make the four live-action COH commercials I want to do.

But at the same time, you DON'T have to do that. Just selling your own drops at the Market is more than sufficient. Even as the Goat suggested, just selling everything for, like 100, is going to earn you a serious amount of cash. The point is to make money off the Market the same way you make it off the vendors - show up, sell things, leave. THAT is not a lot of work, nor does it really need any specific knowledge. Just sell whatever sells and vendor everything else.
Well, for generic recipes, i seem to always sell them for less at WW than I would at a vendor, when it comes to generic IO recipes.

And alot of low level recipes don't sell well at all.

HOWEVER...decent drop on the run to 50, can more than likely pay for your other toons SOs for quite awhile. I have a few SG members who use only generic IOs they buy at WW (already crafted) or SOs.

When they've gotten a really nice drop, they asked me if I wanted it. I told them I couldn't give them more than 50mil, for it (its was a high priced purple). They were going to sell it to me anyways, but I told them no.

Told them to take it to market, put it up for sale at 200mil. They did, they got 300+. They're now set for SOs or Generic IOs on a majority of toons, if they decide to keep them on generics/SOs.

This works just as well for anyone else.

Don't have that UBER recipe? You still get those nice rare salvage. This is what you sell to get all the SOs you want.
