Quote:Well, they are adding the level 20-40 TF and SF, so I wouldn't say they're ignoring the lower levels, and focusing just on endgame.I'm not really all bent out of shape over it.
I would just like the Devs to show me in some small way that Issue 20 isn't going to be the standard fare from now on. If it is, I will have to at some point question why I'm sticking around. If not, then all's good for me.
I am one of those people that never really wanted CoH to have an endgame, as I felt we didn't need one. But obviously other people enjoy endgame play and I do not begrudge them that at all. I would just like to see a few small things I do enjoy in future content updates. Things like powerset proliferation, new story arcs, new costume options all go quite a long way toward keeping me engaged.
I'm not saying that I think the Devs will never do any of that again. I'm sure they will. But I suppose it's a matter of frequency for me. If I can only realistically expect those types of updates once a year, for example, then it hardly seems worth it for me to continue dumping money into the game. -
While I havent seen anything discussed about it recently, and have only seen a commercial for it once (which imo is never a good sign), I can't wait to see it! I'll be there March 25th in the theatres ready for what looks to be a good movie.

Quote:The one problem with this, and you should beable to see it just by reading these forums, is people may look at it and go..."Bleh. It's Indiana Jones sprinkled with Batman, can't they come up with anything original?"Well I think the Doc could make it if the writers put some effort into him to keep him going. I know he and other classics were revived in comic form as part of the big 70th anniversary, etc etc, and that once the hype wears down, Doc's current comic will likely have the plug pulled. But I think if the writers put enough effort in and keep the stories from going campy that the Doc could be around for awhile. Also the "First Wave" comics where he met and briefly fought Batman were an interesting read, but I think for a Doc Savage movie to really work, that it should be set in WW2. Doc was set in the 30's initially so he and his Fab Five could easily get into WW2 through the passage of time or if they decide to bump him up to that time period. Why WW2? Simple, we'd get to see the Doc take on the Nazi's and Doc is a lot like Indiana Jones in that both characters are explorers and adventurers, though I'd say Doc's motives are a bit more pure then Indy's. Doc does what he does because it is what he trained for and because he feels that it is right. Indy's motives in Raiders was about money until he began to realize the Nazi's shouldn't get the Ark, in Temple (Prequel to Raiders) he was very much money motivated until he saw all the evil of the cult and dedicated himself to stopping it, in Last Crusade all he wanted to do was find his father and not the Grail until his father warned him of the legends of the Grail's might and that if they were true that the Nazi's would be unstoppable if they got it.
I love the new Batman movies, but look at them, they dumbed Batman down for the movies, they dumbed down Spider-Man as well (he can't create web-shooters that's to far fetched!).
They may do the same with Doc Savage and then have the fans roaring "This isn't Doc Savage" -
Quote:I'll have to go look for it thenShe only had some cameos here and there for quite awhile.
At the moment she's mainly only in the 'Wolverine/Jubilee' mini-series. I've seen her in the background of one of the other X-Men books, but only as an extra. Someone at Marvel hinted that she'll be coming back into the spotlight soon, but you always have to take that kinda stuff with a grain of salt.
The mini-series is only two issues in so far, but I'm really digging it. The writer's really nailing the Logan/Jubilee dynamic which not many people seem to be able to do nowadays.

Quote:I think we all want that, no matter what sort of player you are. That's more or less where I am. Not really sure when (or if) these things will ever get worked on, but some of the things that would make me really happy include:
*Powerset proliferation
*Further power customization
*New costume pieces and sets, especially if they cover brand new concepts.
*New weapons (pretty please?)
*Backpacks and jetpacks.
*New powersets. Pistols, Demons, Kinetic Melee and Electrical Control were great. How about Dark Control?
*Updates on currently underperforming sets like Devices.
'Course, you can't have all of that stuff in a single Issue, I get that. But I still hope I21 has at least one of these.
*edit*
Oh, and when are we going to get our Apathy Corruptors, damn it!?!

I to was hoping there'd be some power proliferation/new powers with i20, and the NDA having to be signed it really put some hope in for that.
I don't even care if it's only Power Proliferation for a few ATs, it's not like I'm the type of player who only plays one AT. I'm sure the players who only play one AT would be all feelings hurt and stuff, but the majority I don't think would care. -
Quote:Not really.Which is a problem for some folks, as the Well of the Furies is very origin specific.
Me I don't care. I'll take any power I can get at any time.
It's already been said the Well of the Furies is responsible for opening up the 5 Origins of Power as it is. Now they're just saying it's giving you more power directly. -
Quote:Wasn't there mention already of you being able to grab a notice of the well solo, in i20 already?"Solo a few arcs" and "get some shards" do not go together, unless you're talking of the specifically GIANT arcs like World Wide Red or To Save a Thousand Worlds, which take quite a few hours to run through. I've tried to gather Shards that way, and it's far from "log in for an hour, get a Shard."
Besides, within the context of the Incarnate system, that's only relevant for the Common Alpha, and at most the Uncommon Alpha. Everything up from that is team-only content. And, no, an intentionally prohibitive option does not count.
Kinda like how they mentioned shards dropping off every enemy (which wasn't mentioned in the overview).
But again, the point stands. Even if it is slow grueling process, one can do all the soloing they want, it'll just be long and drawn out.
Which, really, I have to ask, why does it matter?
So far, fromt he look of it, these incarnate abilities, while useful at level 50 regular content, isn't really needed, and much more useful at the incarnate content...so it's not like you'll be needing them for much. -
The XP bonus might lead to some people moaning abotu wanting to have the star while you actually lead the team.
But I see what you're saying. I find it funny that people are often "I don't want to form the team" when leading the team 99% of the time really just means *select mission*
However, if you'd like a reward, I think the idea of giving a dayjob style bonus would be awesome!
[TEAMWORK] = 5 minute duration/60 minute recharge (not fixed...because I hate it when powers have fixed recharges...I like my +RCH bonuses to effect EVERYTHING)/+To Hit/+Dmg AOE aura!
After obtaining the 6th Mentoring badge, you begin working on obtaining this temp power. When obtained (after so long leading teams) you are given 24 charges (max) and can obtain another recharge (no more than 24) with every 1 hour of star leading time.
Will people cheat to obtain this by just standing around with a teammate in AP? Sure. But I think enough will get it by actual leadering. -
Quote:While I see what your getting at, there are examples of those types who aren't.I ended up asking myself a series of questions and found the answer remarkably laughable.
a fire blaster can wield fire right? yes
a fire blaster isn't hurt by their own fire correct? correct
fire is fire correct? yes, fire is always fire some may be hotter but still fire itself is pretty hot.
so.. then why do fire blasters trollers and dmoinators, defenders and other archytypes take fire damage just like every other squishy?
why do energy squishies take energy and negative damage just like everyother squishy?
ETC..
the answer is laughable
so why not give players a global resistance bonus (that goes up with their level) based on their power sets?
and shouldn't blasters and other ranged archs get high ranged def and res?
Pyro (enemy of the X-Men) has the ability to control flame, but is only immune to the flames under his control.
I wouldn't say Blasters and other ranged characters should get high ranged defense, but it would help with the notion that range is defense
Yeah it's a defense, if you can stay at range (not easy) and then only if they have weak (tho even by weak it can kill you...at least for blasters) ranged attacks, and likely if you have LOTS of range defense to begin with.
Something to push for instead of this, might be to have such Epic shields for non melee types, to give more resist than they already do, to their damage type.
I'd give the S/L a bit more S/L Resist (but not enough to cap it).
I'd give the elemental shields the ability to cap the Damage resist to the one elemental type (Fire Armor = Fire) if they slotted it up.
But then, saying this, and as I've requested in the past, I'd set it up so Dark Armor (melee ATs) got more Negative Energy Resist (I always thought they should beable to cap the NE Resist).
[Edit] As an added note, the problem with saying Energy/ Resists Energy Damage at cap (or even lower than resist cap) is that Energy Damage is a blanket damage type for various Damage sets (Lightning, Radiation, Light Energy...ect...ect).
It could work for Fire and Cold easy enough really, but with Energy, not so much. -
Quote:You know. I might think Optimus Prime has become an icon. Though, it's hard to say. While the name Optimus Prime has become far more well known, even by those who haven't watched the original 80's cartoon, his look changes enough that it might throw people off.People will recognize whatever comic character they grew up with. Only reason Bats and Sup are ultra popular because they've been around for so long that numerous generations of people knew of them as children.
For those who grew up in the early to mid 80s I would imagine TMNT, GI Joe, Transformers are iconic. And since they've been multiple TV series for each of them over the years since their debut, they are probably as recognizable to those under 30 as Batman, Superman and even Spider-man and the Hulk.
His head seems to keep his distinct look, but even then it has some changes to it. -
How much is Jubilee in the comics now? And if often, which titles?
I'd get back into X-Men if Jubilee is a regular again. -
Quote:I'd wait on that thought. Before it was mentioned they'd release an enemy costume piece set with every issue. It may not have been listed on the overview page (as the lack of info ont he 4 new incarnate slots were left off).so..no costume pieces...that would be the second issue now we haven't had new player costume pieces, third if you consider issue 18 without gr, as those were paid pieces...really guys?
beyond that, ill check out the tfs, not completely buzzed about it being all tfs and trials but maybe they will be fun. maybe more info is coming from pax, i would expect them to mention something from there. -
Quote:The biggest flaw in this post, is stating the obvious. Of course the one who are willing to team are going to have more to do than the one who are only willing to solo.Folks want something more to do than stand around waiting in line for a chance to speed run <insert * of the month content here>.
Folks want functional, more easily manipulated, less expensive bases so they can spend time personalizing something other than a costume, or engaging in combat with something other than AI so bad that it's becoming an Internet meme.
Folks want PvP that works and is fun, rather than PvP that exists merely for the sake of saying that the game includes PvP.
Folks want an MA that doesn't break things in their story arcs every week so they aren't forced to spend all of their gaming time fixing broken goals, replacing disallowed entities and rewriting missions, rather than playing or writing more arcs.
Folks want badges that aren't so easy to get that all they need is a pulse and $15, but not so tedious and pointless as the Ouroboros inanity. Something to give them a goal, something to invest some time in, something to work toward and feel a real sense of accomplishment when they get it.
Folks want ATs to actually be different enough to be noticeable, so there's a reason to play a defender instead of a corruptor, or a controller instead of a defender, or a corruptor instead of a controller, without having to dig through fifty pages of stats to see that there's a percentage difference which is all but unnoticeable for anything less than AV fights.
Folks want something to do other than farm, grind and slog through the same stuff day after day. What you call paradise, we call purgatory. There's nothing to do today but what we did yesterday, and what we did yesterday was the same thing we did a year ago, and the year before that, and what we'll do tomorrow, and every day in the foreseeable future.
Despite your portrayal of solo players as misanthropes, fanatics and rabid anti-social rabble rousers, we aren't. Some might be, but most of us just want something to do. Those of us who can't team, for whatever reason, are just as entitled to add our voices to the discussion as those of you who eat, sleep and breathe in teams. Demonizing us because we ask that the limited content we have be expanded, or that the limited Incarnate progression option we have be less harsh and unrewarding, or that the alternative content (bases, PvP, MA) be improved is neither fair nor warranted, nor very smart when you consider that even if you are the prom queen, the day will inevitably come when you log in and find yourself alone and bored, and wishing you had some new solo-friendly content to play.
You, the team player, have always had access to more content and options than we, solo players, have had because you can do all of the things we can plus all of the things we can't, and frankly, it's hypocritical for you to stand on that soap box and tell us to shut up and accept that we aren't getting much, if anything, in this Issue. I expect better than this from you.
That's always going to be the case.
that said, I've yet to meet a solo player who has run every contact available in the entire game on one character. Hell, I doubt I've met one who's run every contact in game on multiple characters.
Not every team speed runs new content. Just as, not every soloist actually spends the time to read the new content, rather than just enter mission complete objectives and exit mission.
Today, running Apex the longest one took 68mins, and that was because people were going AFK left and right.
The rest, including the kill everything in your path ones, less than 40 minutes (some less than 20 minutes).
Have to say, personally, not a badger, but I like going after them sometimes, I was loving it, as this was a TF that I can do quickly, get teams for, and get points towards Helping others do the WST.
The fact that they were all Master of Apex except for one was awesome. The one that wasn't was specifically said to be a Speed Apex, so we grabbed the glowies (the others were more of...enter mission, then everyone deciding not to use the temps).
This leads me to wonder how anyone an't just enter RWZ and find a team looking to be formed for Apex.
And if you just want to solo only, not team at all, I fail to see how there isn't content out there, that you havent done? Some of those contacts out there are just mindless mission contacts, have they been done? Or when looking for things to do, do soloist mean "must be story arcs?" -
Quote:I have to agree here. You need to be slightly more proactive - fewer people look at the flags now, so just go to the zone the WST starts in, and lurk by the contact - or even use a global channel to say you're looking to join WST, or start one.
To many times I've seen people with flags up, then sent them a tell first (not blind inviting) to have them say, no.
LF ANYTHING Flag up - but I really don't mean anything.
LF TF Flag up - but I really just mean 1 specific TF.
LF MISSIONS Flag up - but I really mean only certain missions.
It's just become easier to go to a few of my global channels/coalition channel and say "Forming whatever" and getting people that way, than by doing a search for random people. -
Quote:Ummm...you STILL CAN!I've got to say the WoWification of the game is pretty ****, what I liked so much about City of Heroes is that teaming was optional, you could log in and do an arc or two and progress your character even if you were in a bad mood and didn't feel like teaming.
But the Dev's have decided to copy other MMO's and introduce 'weeklies' into the game, I'm surprised they didn't go whole hog and stick 'daylies' in as well.
Oh they should totally add rep grinds in as well, everyone loves those.
You log in, solo a few arcs, get some shards, logg off, repeat untill you get the items you need to convert to what you want. -
Quote:I'm actually trying to remember when we had an Overview that had more in it, than what they posted, except for some unmentioned bug fixes, and possibly some power changes.Yeah but then again when have people *ever* remembered that?
Never underestimate peoples' desire want to over-react whether it's justified or not.
Now, they may have forgotten the enemy group costume piece they mentioned we'd have, but other than that (and maybe that was cancelled) do you think there's anymore they'll likely add?
Now I'm not in any sort of rage over this new content. But I really don't recall seeing "OVERVIEW" then a few weeks later "MORE OVERVIEW OF NEWER STUFF" for a very very VERY long time. -
SO far...out of 28-30 level 50's, I've only devoted time to 1 level 50 to become an Incarnate.
My Stalker would of gotten the Incarnate treatment, if the damage was there, but it's so lacking for what I want, that I've pretty much abandoned it. :/ And I enjoyed every aspect of it's play except it's DPS :/
Dark/Sonic would of gotten it, but other players ruined that concept for me, but if I get back over that hurdle, I'll for sure get that one into an Incarnate.
I think I've found my next to work on, but it's a Brute. I'd like to get a Corr (or Defender) into the Incarnate working, but they haven't made the set that fits what I want for a Corr yet, so I continue to wait in hopes of the right set to go with it.
I don't see a problem with doing multiple heroes/villains is a problem, if you have the time for it.
However, I personally wouldn't bother doing it with any character that I wasn't going to spend the time to IO out either (and plenty of my lvl 50's who now sit about collecting dust are loaded with great IO builds).
I don't worry about shards, as those will be collected in time. People just want to rush it on every alt they have (then wonder why they're burnt out).
Do I rush it on my Incarnate? Sure. But then, like I said, I have one Incarnate I'm worring about right now. Since I often did exemping down and running lvl 50 content TFs with my main anyways, it's less rushing and more like normal game play to me though.
Which, is likely how it is for people like me who have one main character and the alts are generally just that...part time alts. -
Quote:It may be run as a lvl 50 TF a lot more often than not, but plenty of times I've seen it have 1-2 50's with the rest being under lvl 50.Raids and TFs aren't "crunchy"?
Anyway in terms of general thought sit is VERY nice to see new lower level TFs/SFs. I think the devs have done a great job with the newer TFs but except for the Positron revamp they've all be focused on level 50s (yes, the ITF scales down to 35 but it's very rare to see it run as anything other than a level 50 TF). The level range on the new TFs/SFs is interesting as well, 20-40 is a pretty big range and it's also the range that includes the largest increases in power for a lot of characters so it'll be interesting to see how well it's balanced.
Given the comments the devs made it seems likely that the physical NDA stuff was for the trials and the League system. In that case the physical NDA made a lot of sense, it's not about the quantity of stuff to test but the fact that those systems represent a major upgrade to CoX and as such something the devs would want to keep under wraps during the initial testing.
People want the XP and the chance for awesome drops when they run it. If I was on a team of everyone under level 50, I'd offer to alt to a 50 to run it. It's just better that way. -
Quote:Let's not forget the ever popular 60 (or was it 70's I forget) Batman TV Show.Likely due to how many comics have been published over the years, how many "Bat" series are currently running, and how he is essentially the Bat-deity of the DCU

The Doc hasn't had quite that level of exposure.
Batman has that show to get into the publics eye. He had the Super Friends cartoon.
Superman had his many shows, had his radio show, his movies...ect...ect
And this was during a time we're people had attention spans longer than 2 episodes.
Now a days, people can see one episode of a show, be wowed, see the next and go "is that it?" change the channel.
And the creators, stated again, don't tend to be much better.
It takes dedication to make these characters iconic. Todays media creators don't tend to have it. They're looking for the quick, big money and 15minutes of fame.
I'm not blaming them mind you.
But let's take Spawn as an example.
Comic was a success, I believe the cartoon on HBO did well...then they made a movie that didn't do it any justice, and didn't seem to take it seriously, and really seemed to put in the "lets add in toy gimmicks" (The Spawn Bike!)
Still, Spawn is one of the few I think can still make it, however, to do so, might have to take it in a different direction from where the comics gone so far.
Savage Dragon is another one that comes to mind. Last I recall, the cartoon was a success. However, the comic was a lot more adult oriented, and thusly parents started going "OMG!" and I think that's what killed SD.
To get that iconic status, the comic characters need to be more than comic book medium. At the same time, fans need to quit the raging (and the pirating I'm sure doesn't help). -
-
I've made villains. I've gotten them to 50. I've yet to put on in Black and Red!
Black and Lavendar. Black and Orange (and on this outfit I got many compliments). But never Black and Red.
However, I have had two MAYBE three (I can't remember if my Katana/FA Scrapper had a black/red outfit) heroes with a Black and Red Outfit.
My Katana/Regen Scrapper and my Fire/Fire Tanker, though my Fire/Fire Tanker had some white in the outfit as well, so maybe that doesn't count? -
-
While not really old, it does seem to be gone (or at least I havent seen it, and I'd still be going out of my way to buy it if someone tells me it's going!)...
The Tenth and Adrenalynn! I loved these series by Tony Daniel!
Also, the original Gen-13 and Cyberforce!
