However, by the time the game came out, it was pretty clear that this was no longer the case.

Yes, some MM builds can tank with the addition of the pool power provoke. But in general, MMs can't tank that well, and they're certainly not Tanks. Nor are Brutes actually. They're Brutes. Not Tanks. Not Scrappers. Brutes. Direct parallels between CoH and CoV archetypes don't exist. Stop creating them.
Phrox is totally right, you can't compare AT's to eachother directly, why do you think 8 SoAs are so untouchable together? Hero ATs are more like the classic trinity setup, Villains are like voltron, the more you get together the crazier they become. If you play a redside AT you're best off with 8 people who have lower mitigation numbers but things like grant cover and the leadership tree... 8 people with maneuvers is 6 defense x 8 = 48% defense to all and 10% damage from assault from 8 is 80% damage and 48% denfese... that's just untouchable. EDIT: adding in the point so not to have it confused, both sides can do this but the fact brutes have fury and stalkers have better crit than scrappers in teams plus the base damage of reside attacks when compared to the closest equivalent are higher on the corrs and doms but scrappers and tankers base is higher but they dont have the fury or higher crit. Simply said, redside ATs alone aren't as survivable as blueside but together they benefit better from buffs

What Darkmaster was saying is that you Xanxan asked for people's opinions on your Mu mastery concept, what dark was saying is that if you are trying to add AoE damage to your build you're stretching it thin.

Let me put EM and Invuln/SR into context for you so you may see why Mu Mastery is a bad idea if you're adding in damage.

EM is one of thetop single target Brute sets, the others being obviously Super Strength, and Stone Melee. While SS has footstomp and SM has tremor they work because of the secondaries. Tremor is a knock up and so is foot stomp though SS has rage, without these effects an AoE isnt that useful. Ball lightning is somethign you'd pair with Electric Melee or Electric armor if you were going for the End drain defensive strategy.

SR/Invuln both lack recovery and both have a fair amount of toggles, tossing in end heavy AoEs is going to kill your end bar.

If you want to make the most out of Whirling hands toss in a disorient set and use it with Mu mastery's Fences, that's a great idea but I feel if you're throwing ball lightning you're taking away from EM's focus and hindering yourself too much. Three powers that are strictly business... Knockout Blow, Energy Transfer and Seismic Smash... these sets are designed to drop mobs in one hit.

Most of you "Old timers" have really only played for half the time you've subscribed for, so please don't toss that out there... I've come across way too many people who try to throw around the age of their account but left after ED hit and came back only recently but kept their account active.

Vet's should get special rewards but nothing that's better as a boost pack or TF reward, things like the targeting pet are great, nice little bonus that isn't a costume piece or so on. I think this XP thing is sort of useful but for a 78th month account? What a rip off, the team assemble power is one of the most widely used powers I've seen, something that helps the player but isn't useless. Maybe they could add something closer to the existing vet powers instead of something boring and pretty much useless to a level 50.

    Updater Error...

    Here's something else to try.

    1) Copy your the cohupdater.exe and pigg folder and save in another folder
    2) uninstall coh using the uninstall.exe.
    3) copy the cohupdater.exe and pigg folder back into your city of heroes file
    4) run cohupdater from inside the city of heroes file.

For some reason, you seem to need to install COH from inside the file on some XP systems.

Also, you might trying looking in the cohupdater.exe.exp.log file. (It's just a text file so you can open with notepad.) It should have an error message detailing what is causing the updater to crash.

This method is the fix that worked for me, I HIGHLY recommend this process to anyone having these issues.

    Updater Problems

Alright here's something to try, this is a little attempt that worked for me and a few other people.

I'm posting this as a general fix, this may work for you or it may not but if anyone else happens to stumble across this topic and find this to work all the better.

In your City of Heroes folder you have two things you need to interact with. --EDIT: Note that you need to have the game installed already, do such and then follow the steps below.--

Step 1) Open your City of Heroes folder and locate your "Piggs" folder and CoHUpdater.Exe file.

Step 2) Copy the Piggs folder and Exe file then save it somewhere else like your documents or desktop. (It's important you don't just move them as the uninstallation process needs them)

Step 3) Uninstall the game using it's internal uninstallation (Not the control panel method) This can be done using your game disc.

Step 4) Now that your game is uninstalled and you have copies of your major data files you can do two things...

Step 5, Option A) This method is what I'll recommend to save yourself time as it worked for me after failing the second method. Create a folder called "City of Heroes" somewhere convenient for you like your desktop, documents or User game folder, make sure not to put it in your programs folder.

Step 5, Option B) I don't recommend this as it failed for me this way and worked with option A, basically it's the same thing you're going to do for step 6 but will be interacting with your programs folder "City of Heroes" This has all your saved games and such in it.

Step 6) Take the Piggs folder and CoHUpdater.Exe file and put them in your City of Heroes folder depending on which option for step 5 you decided to use.

Step 7) now that you have both the Piggs folder and CoHUpdater.Exe files in the folder (make sure to set the files to administrator for vista) just run the Updater file from the folder and let it run it's course, the process will start fixing the files and once completed you'll have a fully patched set of game files. (which arent there, so it'll create them).

Basically the issue was that on some laptops (And it may just be with XP but laptops seem to have issues across the boards with games I've been finding no matter the OS) were having issues during the installation process and to actually install the game you have to do this process of installing the game inside of the folder itself.

Not going to say this will work for you but it worked for me, my updater would download the patch and install it but when trying to verify my files it would do nothing for 10 seconds then close with no error report, it did this same thing when I uninstalled the game then tried to reinstall it and run the updater.

Good luck let me know if this works or not.

    Updater Problems

I'm having the exact same issues though if I delete my checksum file it goes through the process of verifying my files then replaces the checksum but once it tries to start updating the updater sits there for a few moments then closes with no error prompts or anything.

EDIT: Oh, I assume that when you say you're on a laptop like mine that you're also using XP like myself on it, just some old side computer I use to log in and chat with people while traveling. There was something I read about a player contacting NCsoft tech support and told him to remove a certain file in order to allow it to operate properly but I've yet to find what file that was.
