Hmm, I was thinking and trying for a build like that. A somewhat ultimate blaster in nova form then meaty meatshield tanker in Dwarf but I have had no luck at all making a fun one to play and useful to use. I looked at yours and it seems you have a good start going on. Needs some tiny tweaking but I am no professional expert at Mids. I did, however, make a (what I think is) pretty solid build for human form with no transformation if you are at all interested in for a second build or just a new pace.

I think the level requirement should be bumped up to 50, then both PB and WS(If it needs it) should be buffed up. The population of PB players is going down because of how underpowered they are compared to other ATs even though they are supposed to be "Epic" Arch Types. That is all I will say.
-
On my Willpower/Fire/Fire tanker I went with Spiritual for recharge/heals. My tanking build (Solid overall) is almost done being IOed, defense/resist is great, regeneration/recovery on him is fantastic, and with fire I have a good balance of powerful ST attacks (Greater fire sword/Incinerate) as well as AoE (Fire sword circle, Combustion, Fire ball, Melt Armor). The build is great and although more accuracy would be helpful, I just find recharge so much better for him. He is more built around defense/resistance than shear damage output so recharge helps keep my AoEs and strong STs up and rdy to burn through anything. Plus the healing adds to the benefits so my regen, as if it weren't high enough as it is, is a little better. For my farming build that has fantastic S/L resistance/defense is probably going to go Muscular(w/e it was) or maybe even recharge again for more damage.
-
-
By the way Severe, you have a Fire/Fire tanker correct? I just made one and speeded through sewers and the hollows and am close to getting Burn which will only make leveling quicker. If you do have a Fire/Fire I was hoping you could post your build to see what you went for (S/L defense, all around, global recharge, a mix, etc) so I have a sort of guide to help me (I'm no pro at builds).

Quote:I like thatWhen this question comes up I frequently see folks say "I can IO my scrapper/brute to be plenty tough enough for *insert supposedly difficult content here* why would I roll a tank?" My response is "I can IO my tank to do more than enough damage for any content I want to play, why would I settle for any other AT?"
-
hmm, interesting opinions. I have been on and off with CoH for many years, haven't been around since i2 like many people but I been around for awhile. Always missing some gap though when I return.
I love my WP/Fire tanker but (maybe its just me) I feel he isn't doing what I want him to do in ST situations like against AVs. I am tweaking with my char's build but Im thinking of making an alt to change the pace since i19 is when I can make the major difference. I am thinking SD/Energy or or maybe Ice/Energy for a strong ST yet have a few AoE powers to balance out. Paired with a solid defensive. -
Hmm, interesting. It does seem like most tanks accept what they can do and settle for that. I have always been more of a survive now, kill later kind of person. Two blasters will have more risk in a team than two tankers. I have seen it happen in many video games where the 'tank' role is generally underpowered with the exception that they have a sliver more defense and health then the big guy who does the real damage. I have not played blasters, scrappers, and brutes enough to state fact about this but based on what I hear, a brute or scrapper can, in many cases, drop a blaster very quickly. It is usually like this in other games as well which should not be the case, the guy with the most melee damage output generally has better defense/resistance or better armor capabilities making them not only lethal in combat but incredibly tough. I also notice how many tanker abilities are usually self-affecting, has no effect on team behavior. Shield Defense brought some team-oriented abilities into play but I think tankers need more abilities that help his/her team. Widows/Soldiers get leadership abilities even though they appear more as assassins than team players.
-
Im glad so many people post here. Well I have never been a Dark Armor type of person but it is a fantastic set with great stats so I may give it another shot. I want a tanker with a little more single target abilities so I will probably make a DA/Energy tanker. Anyways, what impact do you guys think i19 will have on Tankers? Will the new systems and changes boost tankers up, keep them the same, or make them less required on average teams? Share your opinions. Auto fitness will give us the ability to boost our defense with more defense based powers or allow us to take on more offensive abilities to have greater damage output. I have read about the Incarnate system but I guess not enough because it is still fuzzy to me, so I don't know exactly how that will change tankers.
-
Wow. I started this thread last night and all these responses came in. I honestly thought it would take longer but I guess I was wrong! Well I play a WP/Fire tanker as my main tanker and I love playing him. Yes the damage is not quite at a scrapper or brute level but it sure makes me feel good when I see them having to pop resist inspirations to handle what I can easily take on. My character has IOs and sets and such but the set up is very low level. A friend I made in-game was kind enough to make me a solid build for i19 that is going to be awesome.
WP/Fire is great though, Willpower has a lot of defense and resist which when IOed can become a LOT of defense/resistance. With Quick recovery and stamina together, endurance is not usually a problem. And, of course, with willpower the regeneration is so high that if any enemies do happen to dent your health, you regenerate it so fast it doesn't make a difference.
I was doing RV the other day with my tanker and all the stalkers were trying to Assassin's Strike me and then run away to do it again. When I noticed their attacks barely dented my health, I laughed right because when the stalker came back a couple seconds later to re-strike, my health was already full again. Then a dominator came up with ice attacks and my health really was in trouble so my cold resist/defense was low but anyways...
Fire contains excellent single target attacks like Greater Fire Sword and Incinerate, along with AoE abilities like Combustion and Fire Sword Circle which makes for a balanced offensive. I did think about Elec/Fire because my tanker has less than desirable recharge times on AoE abilities and with elec you get another AoE and recharge. By the way, tankers get a unique fire attack power set that is different than the one that Brutes and Scrappers share (They don't get combustion but get Cremate, a high damage single target attack).
Well, that was my life story, any people out there play a stone tanker? I guess with the new (To me) IO system there has been less of a need for Stone tankers? Is Shield Defense good and worth using on a Tanker? I see alot of scrappers use it but not many tankers for some reason. -
Hello Tankers of all servers! I would like to start a tanker opinions thread to get a glimpse of different play styles. So if any tankers want to post what build they enjoy running with and why, go ahead here. I want to see what you guys have to say about different builds and what they have to offer so even if you are not a tanker expert, please share your experiences.
-
Ahh, very nice then. With WP you do not need to go as heavy with health and stamina slots. Its a good build but I am worried that with a build like this the damage will be lacking much more. Its a solid build but for fire attack the AoE may suffer like this. I am no expert so I am just throwing my opinions out but, if you replaced the set on Combustion or Fire Sword Circle (Since it does more base damage) with Armageddon or Obliteration you will lose a bit of defense but the set will at least have a slight nuke.
-
Wow, fancy build. I like it but one thing I am wondering is, is this set supposed to be set up for i19 Fitness as well? I know Fitness is going to be automatic but I don't see any slots to the side for it. Is this build supposed to have slots for Stamina and Health?
-
Here is just a crude setup I made now for my character. I do want Combat Jumping and Hasten for sure in power pool. Looking at my setup now I do realize I did not set anything for Fitness for i19 cuz of slot loss so hopefully you guys will have much better ideas.

Hello everyone! I have been playing for quite a bit of time now but one thing I was never able to get the hang of out of any time I quit or restarted CoX, was IOs and sets. I hear there are limits on how many of certain effects and certain powers and etc. I have a tanker that I think has the potential to be really good but needs help getting there. I want him to have decent defense/resist against everything; a well-rounded defense character that will both farm and team with others. My first question here: Can anyone help me create a really great WP/Fire Tanker build w/ IOs and sets? Second question: Can someone put a link for a guide on things I should know about sets before I start tweaking with them? Whenever I search it I get irrelevant information.
