  1. Hi BAB.

It will be interesting to experiment on this without worrying about a mito pop ruining the attempt. Villain side should be very interesting.

I still don't like the cap of 50 players. What happens if a large number of tanks or stalkers show up? Will a group of 50, with the majority melee AT's, be able to win? Will players be told "nope we have too many tanks/stalkers already, get out or we won't even start?"
  2. Good job on the backgrounder Arctiic!

Yeah, looks sort of like IP to me. You can see the edge of a bridge on the left. I wonder if that's where they're putting his TF. Seems sort of odd that that would be the location.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If it is IP I dunno where in IP it's gonna be. I just spent the last 45 minutes searching around IP and there is one spot in the upper right of the map that is almost right, but there's nothing close to that surface they are standing on, plus I can get the corner of the bridge and the round top buildings lined up close to where they are in the pic, but the war walls behind States are a lot closer in the pic than in IP. Also they are not at sea level in that pic. They are somewhere between 15 and 20 feet above the water.

I don't go to the PVP zones so maybe it's in one of those?

There aren't many zones with large bodies of water so it should be easy to narrow down.

    [/ QUOTE ]

could they be in that new section of the GvE map north of Steel Canyon? There's a large body of water there, but I'm not sure if it would match up to the background of that screenshot.

    Cryptic article.

While we have your attentation Jack, what's the deal with all the Lovecraftianesque banners on Cryptic's homepage?

    Cryptic article.

Awesome, thanks for linking that. Interesting to finally see the origin of the Cryptic Studios name. I'd never seen that explained before.

    Edit:

    [ QUOTE ]

"City of Heroes was very tightly focused on moment to moment combat," Rogers says. "The Marvel game will have more big components to it. It's going to be all the stuff we wanted to put into City of Heroes, and you'll get to run around in Marvel costumes. We've got more money now and more people. We'll add more depth. We want to take it to the next level."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thats a bit disheartening for CoH players. We're the reason Cryptic has more money. The quote makes it sounds like the plan is, put all the awesome ideas we wanted to have in the old game into the new game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [ QUOTE ]
"It's pretty much whack-a-mole," Rogers says of his role as a manager on days like these. "Everybody is running around wondering why Captain America's shield doesn't go up when he gets hit. But on a usual day, it's people at their desks with their heads down making stuff."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Looks like MUO is getting our shield sets.

The followers of FSM thank you.

There are also opportunists on both sides of the fence as well. An issue like this has almost no down side for the people pushing it, and plenty of benefits. Supporters will be shown to care about the safety and well being of children by the media, earning them votes from the general public. Positive exposure for doing really nothing.

Detractors will be vilified by the press for their support of violence and disregard for children.

Don't write this off just yet.

Yes, it's framing a battle on gaming violence, but it seems some game developers and scholars that are GAME ADVOCATES appear to have participated in this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

"Participated" =/= "Agree with what the filmmakers are saying."

Anyone can get an interview with a game designer, sit there for an hour or so, and get them to say all sorts of things in response to specific leading questions. Then you can use clever editing to take comments out of context and throw in dramatic sounding music to make it appear that the person interviewed is saying something very different from what they actually believe.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Agreed. See: any local news station interview between candidates in a particularly heated local election. Or cable news channels for that matter. Sound bytes be damned.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just to make it clear, some of the speakers that are game advocates are VERY MEDIA SAVVY GAME ADVOCATES, including notables like professors of media studies at MIT. They aren't easily duped.

And the idiots on the other side have been frequently beat up by flawed references and incorrect assumptions (Jack Thompson's bully crusade and anti-sims comments he had to step back from, for example). The flight sim statement he's used in other places, and while he seems to love it, many anti-game-violence people cringe every time he uses such garbage. He damages their cause.

Look at what was really said and ask yourself how much is patently anti-game and what's neutral or pro-game.

Also, from what I've read, the director of this isn't a known anti-game crusader and has said he'd like to frame the topic for debate, not persuade one side or another.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Its very easy, and very common, to have your words and actions manipulated by an shady interviewer/reporter/film maker so they can make their point. When making a hit piece documentary, they don't get people on the opposite side of the issue to sit down with by telling them its a hit piece. They say that they're making a "balanced" look at a serious issue.

The Borat movie is a good exampe of this, and Michael Moore has made a career out of doing this type of interview.

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm extremely disappointed that an image of Statesman would be used in such a way. I know that we designed City of Heroes to appeal to "children of all ages." My proudest accomplishment with the game is that many parents (including my brother) play with their children...sharing, I hope, the same joy for the comic book world that I've had ever since I was 8. I cannot express the shock that I felt seeing that a character created by Cryptic would be used in the same sentence as Columbine.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So stop being disappointed and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. You won't allow the radical Christians/conservatives etc. to sander your creation without responding with your own comments on how flawed their logic is, will you? Not to mention, do they EVEN have the RIGHT to show your COH images? The Moral Police, with their recreational and sex panic have been gaining steam ever since the mid 90's. I would be SORELY disappointed if Cryptic didn't investigate this further, so that they could either a) create their own rebuttal to show that COH is NOT to be linked with other games (cough, GTA, God of War etc). or b) sue, sue, sue.

    Edited for redundancy

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't just blame conservatives. Both parties are equally to blame for stupidity, as shown in Hillary Clinton's Family Entertainment Protection Act.

    Rage debuff

    [ QUOTE ]
funny you should say using a power to cause rage not cost the -25 end when it crashes.

on my stone/ss tank i have reage slotted so that when i'm not in granite the power will be recharged and activated as soon as it crashes. in the first place. I've allways felt the end drop when it crashes, weither i activate rage at the crash or another attack. I've had it so much to the point that i've lost toggles on the crash

    [/ QUOTE ]

In order to avoid the crash, you need to activate the 2nd rage before the 1st rage expires. Basically you need to have 2 rages running at the same time.

    Rage debuff

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Rage is an awesome power, but 10 seconds of inactivity (nuisance), -25 end (um ouch on the blue) AND -20 defence is a horrid penalty.
And SS was balanced to rage. without rage, SS sucks. Better to go stone/ or axe/

    [/ QUOTE ]

    /stone or /axe, but that's nitpicking.

Without rage, Super Strength does better damage than War Mace and Ice. Super Strengh also has better control than War Mace.

With rage, Super Strength does better damage than anything else, ignoring resistances.

Perhaps then, Super Strength should be reblanced to be less reliant upon Rage?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sweet lord no! My main has been rebalanced enough during his 30 months of existence. I'd rather not have the entire set potentially mucked up.

Using End recovery powers is fine; having the power itself negate the crash isn't.

    [/ QUOTE ]

With all due respect _Castle_, Rage has worked like this for nearly 2 years now, why the heck does it have to be 'fixed' after all this time?

Stacking Rage to avoid the end crash is a penality in of itself, since you experience the def debuff/no external action period more often.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Can they use that logic for all long standing bugs, known and unknown?

Think of the time it would save them!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe because there is no reason to fix something that's not broken. As I said in my 1st post, stacking rage to avoid the end penalty results in you experiencing the no external action/ def debuff more often.

As many have said in this thread, the no external action is by far the most severe part part of the crash. So getting hit with that part of the crash more often seems to be a fair trade off for saving some end.

I'd personally prefer Rage be left alone since a fix might bring more problems or bugs. Like the gauntlet/taunt aura problem that tanks and brutes currently have had for a long time now, or the pvp fury bug that has been with us since COV was launched.

  14. Gratz to all the winners and everyone who entered.
  15. I'm hoping that the next zone will be in the 35-50 lv range. A Rikti moon zone, which is strongly hinted at as coming soon, would fit this level range perfectly since we first get Rikti missions at around lv 35.
