it's a bit of a silly thing really, with all the uproar about godding other characters this is exactly the sort of thing you want to avoid.
I can feel future trouble over this if the problem really is to do with naming magic and her mother hasn't just... ascended or something
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't know if I got your correctly (likely I didn't), but just because IC something works or is possible doesn't of course indicate that it could be done to another player character without their concent.
Realistically speaking, almost any character could seriously mess up any other character in right circumstances, if they'd wanted to do that IC. It doesn't happen because characters don't want it IC, and in most cases the other player wouldn't concent to it.
Anyway, I think Spellsong's magic with system and rules sounds very interesting (and quite different from the tribal-y magic brand Subaiku uses). And knowing you, I know you've put lot of thought and effort into it.
Blackdove -
I have no idea what Spellsong actually means with name magic, but since people have commented on that, I'm now curious. Is there some existing tradition what 'name magic' is on CoH?
My only reference would be to Earthsea books by Ursula Leguin, where it
a) wasn't possible to teleport anyone like that
b) not that hard for a good mage to learn person's true name
c) if person's true name was learned, it enabled total control of that person, not just tricks. (and being able to teleport someone is rather far from total control).
d) whether the people believed or not made little difference to the effects.
I don't think Spellsong was doing earthsean naming magic, as there had been talk of power words and such. But I'm just curious why it's said 'ah, naming magic, well then xxx or yyy won't work'.
Some smilies.

It's such a very thin, thin line between your bad days and your fine - 18.11.06
Last night in Pocket D Pyranha has made plans to meet Inago there. When she got there, the little grasshopper was nowhere to be seen. For a brief moment she enjoyed the victory of being faster, until Inago emerged from the bathroom. Curses on super-superjump. Doctor Temporis was there enjoying a not-so-quiet drink and they discussed the differences between tolerable, fine, good and dreadful week as well as the similarities between hero work and crumbled newspapers. Doc was definetely not as burstingly cheerful as he had been the last few times Pyranha had seen him, but wasn't engaged in heavy drinking as he often has done in Pocket D after a failed mission. PRIAM's scannings at Pyranha's apartment gave no additional information, unless we count negative results as such. If Winter's mom had been teleported out of the apartment, it either left so faint traces the scanners didn't pick them up, or it was done by magical means. Pyranha's next step is to ask Fairbanks if she could detect any portals or teleportations occured in the apartment, if not, Pyr would have to try find a more powerful mage.
Members of Silent Tempest were out having a drinks too. Coile and Dustine exchanged greetings with everyone and they were later joined by a pink wearing quite well developed teenager girl. The girl later came by to ask Doc's autograph to his surprise, Pyranha was amused and Kyo jealous. The discussion about fan-clubs that followed made Pyranha giggle a lot, a mood that was cut short by the appearance of Ghost Moon who made his grand, villanous entrance as well spouting dark and mysterious threats.
At the end of the evening, Pyranha and Coile talked briefly, just enough for him to reveal that Nadia who has been with him for the past months is infact a copy and the real Sword of Truth is still held captive somewhere, or even dead. Then the Tempest girls returned and diverted the conversation into interior design and what color would look best in Tempest base. Pyranha made her excuses then and went home.

End of the Line - 17th November 2006
The case of missing Winter Heart got a new lead when Fairbanks managed to magically locate her books (it does pay to mark your books with little locator spells. Next we ought to put them to people.) to a location in Hollows. Pyranha and Inago went to investigate and found abandoned looking bookstore. After skulking around the place for awhile they broke in with Pyranha's more questionable detective skills. Inside they found lot of dust, old books and one Winter Heart, snoring next to an empty vodka bottle. When they didn't manage to wake her up, Inago carried her as she was to their apartment in Steel Canyon.
The next day, Winter Heart woke up and found Pyanha watching over her. The girls reunion was shaky but very happy and established that despite everything, they were still best friends. Worryingly, Winter Heart's mother Ingrid was still no where to be seen, and Winter hadn't seen her since their fight almost two weeks ago.
Later that day Pyranha called Doctor Temporis to give him the latest news and day after they met up on Pyranha's request. Her investigations on Winter Heart's mom's location had all came back dry and she was running out of ideas of where to look. Doctor promised to help her and said he'd send some crew over to check her apartment for traces of dimensional, spacial or temporal fluctuations. Or something like that. As well as have some drones to sweep out the city. Pyranha was much relieved.
The matter of Pyranha's GoD-watch was briefly discussed. Inago was dead set against her using it, he didn't see it as necessary and more as way to monitor Pyranha and hence she had decided not to wear it. Doc wasn't very pleased about her decision and since they were right in the middle of trying to find someone, she didn't even have much grounds to say "it's not going to happen to me." But he didn't push it, she was feeling too much between rock and the hard place already.
Doc's robot PRIAM came by the apartment for a scan and Pyranha promptly ushered Winter Heart outside for a walk. During the week she had groomed Winter best of her ability, gotten her haircut, facial, manikyre, waxing and lot of healthy multi-vitamin drinks and salads as well as invigorating walks in the park. As well as lot of girly chatter and gossiping, including detailed descriptions of Pyranha's adventures in Japan. On friday they went to the courthouse, only to wait for long long while and then to be reported that their judge had gotten suddenly ill (or possibly gone golfing) and the new date would be on Monday. Probably Monday.
Elsewhere in Paragon City and Rogue Isles: Subaiku was called to help in one Tempest mission with Coile and Dustine. Also Hikari-Hime and Doctor Temporis were present. They were tasked to stop a scouting party of otherworldly nation that wanted to conquer Earth. Subaiku kept her thoughts to herself and rushed through the battle recklessly, causing some raised eyebrows by her teammates. Afterwards, she headed back to the Isles. Worryingly, she is finding herself to feel in someways more at home there than on Paragon City.

Really, really cool
I think if I could build similar city in my living room, it would take lot of convincing to get permission from the family to clear it out.
The picture, very cool as well. I think you go the perspective great there, so your efforts were worth it

Swissy's Pictures
AF's Pictures
Optical Delusion Pictures
Updated the list of threads.
It's now halfway, so 25 pictures, or 30 if going by 2 pics / day that was my own goal.
I find myself spending lot of time on the pictures, editing and coloring them in photoshop, which is lot of fun but does take time. I learned a few more tricks and managed to use another trick I learned with frolic's picture a while back. That made me feel like I'm getting somewhere with photoshop, yay. I also feel that I am getting slightly better with hands. In the nadia and andre picture I had to draw toes with was challenging. But hands are still my bane.
I've really enjoyed seeing everyone's pictures and creativenessPlease keep posting!

On a more serious note; I am always in awe of people who express themselves musically and by singing, a talent that i certainly do not have!.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly how I feel.
Very cool Beet! I like metal a lot so that got extra points from me. I look forward for more of your work
And may I say once again I awed and jealous I am of people with musical talents? Very!
Blackdove -
Yep, got the screenies RD
Here's my latest patch of finished pictures:
November Picture #13 - Nadia and Andre
November Picture #14 - Fuchsia enjoying the night
November Picture #15 - Pyranha and Inago kissing
November Picture #16 - Subaiku in shower
The last one is answer to a dare I had a while back, and I'm not posting the link here since there's nakedness but if someone wants to see it, PM me.
Blackdove -
Excellent, AF
Congrats on keeping up and nice work. My favorite so far is 22: Blue Artic, she has great expression on her face, subtle but emotional. Also the toon-guy is funny
Blackdove -
Good going Max
I much liked the last four especially. Gandalf impersonation, little furry and someone blowing off his hat, aww
Blackdove -
Nice sketch, again
Nice emotion on her hands too. (Personally drawing hands is very hard for me, so I'm very jealous of all those who can :P)
Just a suggestion: you should post these to a same thread, then it'd be easier to flip through all your pictures (that are in the 50-pictures).

Just Remember Me When - 10.11.2006
Pyranha has been buried in investigations, first there was the Tsoo case and after that she's thrown herself to the trail of her best friend, Winter Heart. After checking hours and hours of surveillance tape across the city, checking hospitals and morgues, credit card company, police reports, interviewing neighbors and even toughing up some local thugs Pyranha has finally come to the conclusion that if Winter has left the city, she has done it via unconventional methods, or then she hasn't left at all. Did Winter leave of her own will or was she kidnapped? If she was kidnapped, why is her mother missing too? And then there was that letter that corresponds little too well with the time of Winter's disappearance.
Pyranha is rather uncertain of the next step. The one person who might be able to help her, she really would rather keep out of this, and her associates haven't exactly excelled in the area of finding people so far. Maybe it's time to call in some old favors...
Elsewhere in the Paragon City, as well as Rogue Isles: Subaiku is doing what some humans would call brooding. Officially she's working to establish her identity in the Isles and even making some contacts. She has even had little success in that, but most of her time is spent in unsolicited, feral hunt as well as long hours perched on rooftops listening to the sounds of the night. -

N1 BD
Transparent belly though?
[/ QUOTE ]
If you look closely, the whole picture is 'transparent', only the white and black lines arent. It's just mostly visible on her belly.
I've got Wacom Intuos3, A5 size. I'm very pleased with the size, since it's small enough to be in my lap when drawing and doesn't feel too small with zoom. Expensive yes, but worth it. Like I said, I've been VERY happy with how it functions. I sometimes use mouse but for drawing, Intuos3 is just so superior it's laughable.
Blackdove -
Thanks for the comments everyone, gives me a little push to keep on drawing... I'm slacking behind again.
But, here's something I doodled in photoshop with wacom (wacom's great, I'd marry that thing if I could ^^ )

I would like to nominate Blackdove for her insane challenge
I know it'll turn out good ^^
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks SwissySo far, it's been fun ^^
I think I have no choice but in my turn to nominate Coile, who started it all with his NaNoWriMo challenge. Even if I am not taking part in that, reading the thread has been fun and made me jealous of those who do since their joy in writing and shared experience is evident.
Good luck to all who are writing and drawing (triply so for the insane ones who do both!) and have lot of fun!

Next patch of scans is up:
November Picture #4 - Evil Flora from Winx
I've drawn dozens winx pictures over the months, most are instantly used for coloring purposes. This one I drew more for myself. It is based on the picture below, with slight modifations to make her look more evil.
Winx is italian animated series, magical girl type. There is five high school girls who go to fairy girl and fight against evil witches and date cute 'specialist' guys who use lightsaber-like weapons as well as got all kinds of nifty tech-gadgets.
The original Winx picture
November Picture #5 - Random samurai-ish character
November Picture #6 - Sketch of Fuchsia
November Picture #7 - Sketch two of Fuchsia
November Picture #8 - Sketch of Winter Heart
And finally something I put under my comic title "Different Capes". I'm counting it as three pictures even if they are in one file now, as the pictures were drawn separately and have no conncetions to each others.

We Used To Be Friends - 08.11.2006
Since Pyranha has been back, she had spend most of her waking moments on catching up with her life. There was bills to be payed, apartment to clean, finding and watching all the episodes of Lost, Survivor and Fear Factor that were aired while she was gone. She hadn't been too anxious of see Winter right away, as there was some issues that needed adressing. But as days passed and Winter didn't answer her phone, nor called back nor visited the office and Pyranha was getting worried. She called Winter's lawyer who had seen Winter last time couple of weeks ago at their last meeting. Pyranha called Shelley Fairbanks, the third employee of Ghost Tiger Investigations and heard that Shelley hadn't seen Winter for a week either. Now lot of alarm bells were ringing. Pyranha and Shelley set up a meeting the first thing the next morning. Unfortunately one of Pyranha's contacts called and said it was emergancy. On a Tsoo case they have been working on, one undercover agent had been exposed and taken into custody. Pyranha was his last hope as everyone else he had worked with was unavailable, so Pyranha left message to Shelley to say she had to cancel the meeting but that Shelley ought to look into Winter being missing. -
Great doodles once again, Swissy
(Isn't against some kind of decency policy to call those doodles, though?)
Picture #14 is cool, I love the use of red highlights, very effective.

Authors have all kinds of different methods of writing their stories. Some start from the beginning and write their way through it, I remember one (published, so he must know something?) telling how he writes the first and last chapter at first and then fills out the story in between, and quite many write bits and pieces here and then arrange it to chronological order.
Personally, I tend to write linearly, and then come back and tweak it around quite a bit, but I can also write non-linear way if I'm hitting a block of one part of the story.
So worry not, your way of writing is just as good as any other that fits someone else.
Blackdove -
This is great stuff
Very funny, and the fun is often brought out in quite minimalistic way (not just the lineart, but picture arrangement and the cues). Very cool.
Blackdove -
Good start
And poor frosty ^^
I only today catched up to my goal of 2 pics a day and now my count is 13, hopefully get them scanned soon too.
