    Shadow meld ?

I believe that is the case, Brakner. I did it on test with my main to see how stupid a fully purpled claws/sr scrapper would be with hibernate.

    It was mighty stupid.

And stalkers still have crap aoe output and vastly lower HP. They can not leverage SM like scrappers can.

And while powers might be balanced around SOs, the devs are not in the habit of ignoring what's happening when IOs are in use and they will eventually nerf that which is providing too much benefit.

As a claws/sr, I look at shadow meld...and start screaming random curses at Castle. May Cthulhu Eat You Last!!!!

SD's mitigation sucks with SOs? Really?

Let's compare because facts mean a hell of a lot more than hyperbole.

    11.25 melee def = 17.55 slotted
    11.25 S/L dam-res = 17.55 slotted
    11.25 range/aoe def = 17.55 slotted
    13.84 DDR = 21.59 slotted
    11.25 F/C/E/N/T dam-res = 17.55 slotted
    +133.862 HP = +261 slotted
    30% DDR
    3.75 m/r/a def
    13.84 DDR

    And for 1/3rd of the time with OwtS slotted 3dam-res/3heal, 35.1 S/L dam-res, 17.55 F/C/E/N/T dam-res and another +522 HP

So for 66% of the time, the level 50 shield scrapper with nothing but SOs is running around with:
21.3% def to melee, range and aoe defense
17.5 dam-res to all but psi
    An extra 261 HP
    57.68 DDR

33% of the time for the cost of some end but no real crash beyond that, we're looking at:
    21.3% def to m, r, a
    52.65 S/L dam-res
    35.1 F/C/E/N/T dam-res
    +783 HP
    57.68 DDR

And this sucks? Really? SR gets 31% defense to m, r, a all the time, capped DDR and some scaling dam-res that is easily leap-frogged by hard targets. And for 35% of the time it can softcap its defense for the price of a complete endurance crash.

Like willpower, SD has layered mitigation that can be built upon. SR doesn't. SR is awesome. I can do incredible things with it. But that's only true NOW that I've dumped billions into it. With just SOs, SR is squishy as hell.

Make no mistake, the softcap on its own is very nice, but the softcap backed by consistent dam-res and substantial HP buffs is vastly better. And then to cruise around with +50% damage on top of that on average? K.
  5. I really hope I'm alive to see a near-hit like that. That'd be one hell of a party night.

How would more recharge from SR sit with you as a way to balance SR against Shields?
I'm not in the camp that thinks all other sets should be buffed up to the level of the outliers. For me, SD is an outlier. It provides too much damage on top of the mitigation it provides. For comparison sake, FA also provides considerable damage output, but its mitigation is pathetic.

Something will have to give when it comes to SD. Either the mitigation will have to be reduced or the buff from AAO will need to be.
  7. I don't know if I can agree with that as the angle I'm viewing AAO from is its use against hard targets. The results of which you can see in the rikti pylon thread. No one is using shield charge during those runs.
  8. EG, while it may be *possible* for brutes to surpass the damage output of an identically built scrapper, due to the way fury was tweaked it is HIGHLY improbable.
  9. We're not stuck with AAO's overpowered status. You could cut the bonus in half and it would still be a "unique "layer" of survival for Shields that replaces "healing", "regen", or "utility" powers."

The problem as it stands now is that you get a massive damage buff that can be easily leveraged with minions that costs little end and has no downside on top of having layered mitigation that can be heavily buffed.
  10. If knockback caused more damage when you were knocked into something;
    If knockback distance was based on the amount of damage you received when getting hit;
    If KB protection only existed where it made sense, like with Stone Armor-Rooted;

Then I'd be fine with KB and Shockwave would be even more fun to use than it is now.

But none of that is the case. What we have are two sets that don't get KB protection "just because." And "just because" is a ******* stupid reason.

That's 3 slots wasted on something that other mitigation sets don't have to bother with.

The KB hole is dumb. Nothing more and nothing less. For FA's pathetic mitigation, it should NOT also have to deal with wasting slots in this way. Edit: Yes, the same goes for DA.
  12. I seriously doubt I'll bother seeing Deadpool if it doesn't have RR.
  13. mmmm, claws/sd

Softcapped, doublestacked followup, saturated AAO, spin, eviscerate, shieldcharge...

    *sigh*
  14. Zuxlan,

Just so ya know, Castle did his brute testing with a battle axe.
  15. Considering how badly Reynolds apparently WANTS to do Deadpool... I hope this gets paved over and he gets to. His job as DP in Wolverine was that movie's only redeeming quality and then they managed to fark even that up at the end.

That I can accept fully. Stick it with a set with lots of range like spines or claws or even kinetic melee now and go to town. Hell, maybe if I rework my brain fully around that concept I could crank one up. I have been playing more and more squishies lately. And having a blapper with mez protection, a self-heal and some dam-res doesn't sound awful.
  17. My opinion of the set remains unchanged even after testing the changes: Too Damn Squishy.
  18. Let's do a comparison:
    Quote:
    Quick Strike: 0.83s
    Body Blow: 1.07s
    Smashing Blow: 1.2s
    Burst: 2.67s
    Focused Burst: 2.0s
    Repulsing Torrent: 2.0s
    Concentrated Strike: 2.83s
    Power Siphon: 1.93s (no rooting)
    Swipe: .83 Tie
    Strike: 1.17 KM wins
    Slash: 1.33 KM wins
    Spin: 2.5 Claws wins
    Focus: 1.17 Claws wins
    Shockwave: 1 Claws wins
    Eviscerate: 2.33 Claws wins
    Followup: .83 Claws wins

So claws still is the fast animating set, but I'm betting that KM's ST damage output is considerably higher. Is that a safe bet, A?
  19. I don't like the sound effects. Good thing I can fix that. I might do a KM/SD brute. (We can do KM with SD, can't we? I never checked during beta.) That combo should put out some rather stupid ST damage.

All we see are the words. We don't see the worlds within the words that men/women of intellect see.
I won't speak for anyone but myself, but I've been very aware of the high probability of our species' extinction since I was in high school.

Having Hawking tell me that if we don't get off this rock we're doomed is no different than my father telling me that having sex without protection and/or birth control is a very bad idea. Guess what? I ignored him and paid the price for it just has humanity will ignore Hawking and pay its price.

I don't "just see the words." I've felt their impact at the core of my brain for well over two decades. The difference between Hawking and I, besides him being vastly more intelligent and driven, is that I no longer care. Which leads to my response to FX.

    Quote:
That may be true but man spaced flight is virtually extinct. In a year the US won't have the capacity to launch a man into orbit which leaves Russia and a fledgling China space program. SpaceX may have something in a couple of years but that's it.

Until we start to try to build bigger structures in space, we aren't going to be going anywhere, in any significant way, anytime soon.
I absolutely agree with everything you just typed. Unfortunately, FX, as a country we're far more interested in paying some moron millions a year to run across the grass with a ball than we are with funding space exploration. We're more concerned with which bad singer is getting insulted by some English twit than we are with funding asteroid/comet deflection. Our "leaders" (yes, ALL of them) are far more interested in getting reelected than actually guiding the populace away from our own self-destruction.

Fatalistic attitude? Yup. I'll own up to that. I'll change my tune if I ever see a change in society's mindset regarding reality. Sadly, I know I'll never be changing my tune.
  21. Hawking is a brilliant man. That said, this also seems like a big "no freaking duh" moment. However, while humans might be smart enough to halt our extinction, we won't.
